The pay-off of the murderer reveal left me cold. It wasn't so much that I didn't see it coming, but rather that I considered it and dismissed it as being too boring, which it was. Directorial style was, as noted by others, discount Wes Anderson, even down to actors like Brody and Ronan. Overall, a bit of a waste of talent, but not a terrible way to spend 90 minutes or so. When someone is murdered in the theater, enter a seasoned detective (Sam Rockwell) and his typically-eager-but-bumbling assistant (Saoirse Ronan, who creates a delightful character). They set about solving the case, while the parallels to the play mount. To be good, a classic whodunit like this traditionally has witty writing, snappy performances, taut direction and beautiful art direction. This version has a bit of each, but never shines in any category. Everyone is trying hard, but there's nothing clever in the script or plot and the overall direction lacks tension. Even the costumes/locations are only average beautiful. Anyone desiring to revive this style of mystery should bring something fresh to the approach. Sadly, this film is rather bland all around. The murder mystery genre is still going strong with another addition, this time from director Tom George. See How They Run is a laugh out loud whodunit that I guarantee all of you will enjoy.

Set in 1950s London and The Mouse Trap’s long running and highly successful play comes to an abrupt halt after a key member of the crew is found murdered. Inspector Stoppard (Sam Rockwell) is instructed to team up with an eager rookie Constable Stalker (Saoirse Ronan) to navigate the glamorous world of theatre and investigate the case.

See How They Run is funny and compact film with a snappy script and a star studded cast. It’s a refreshing look at the whodunit genre while still keeping true to the formula. The story is great and it’s also not afraid to make fun of itself. It finds the balance between paying homage to Agatha Christie murder mysteries whilst also making some jokes on their behalf. Sam Rockwell and Saoirse Ronan make a great onscreen duo and their comedic timing is perfect. Ronan particularly stands out as the incredibly eager to do a great job Constable. She’s infuriating but very likable, put alongside Rockwell’s stone faced and jaded detective was a great move and the results speak for themselves.

See How They Run is hugely enjoyable and very funny murder mystery. This is a genre that’s definitely seeing an increase with the likes of the Agatha Christie remakes and of course the hilarious Knives Out. It’s a popular genre that when it’s done properly it’s worth it and it goes down extremely well with cinema audiences. So movie addicts if you enjoy a good murder mystery then be sure to check out See How They Run. Highly recommended.

This was pretty weak in acting, comedy and mystery. It had some alright moments but it was a pretty big bore in the long run. I give them credit that they at least tried to do something a bit different than the usual flicks.

In his debut feature film, the director moves between many realities, the literary, the theatrical, the cinematographic, the metatextual, the parody, to the detriment of the only real one that deserved an antithetical twist: that of not being once again sacrificially criminalized but on the contrary rehabilitated. In short: always the same murder, the art that kills the true facts.

This was definitely pitched to Searchlight as "What if Wes Anderson had made Knives Out". They just forgot to include most of the elements that make both very good.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. See How They Run is seamlessly funny. The plot does not overstay its welcome. The script is fully in control of its own camp. The ensemble shares the spotlight effortlessly. Detective jokes abound. Much fun is had without letting any spinning plates fall or threads left loose. It is, in a word, a light comedy, a whodunit with absolutely no ambitions beyond silly skulduggery, and that is precisely why it is approximately $28 million in the hole with no end in sight. A box office disaster, which in its seventh weekend in theaters has failed to recoup the generous mid-size budget an indie ensemble cast demands.

See How They Run was Wife’s first movie out on her own in more than a year. I relied on her to let me know if it was worth seeing in theaters. Everything about the trailer screams Wife: an Agatha Christie play, crisp editing, Sam Rockwell and Saoirse Ronan, David Oyelowo and Adrian Brody, nothing more need be said. Wife came home resolved that she wanted to see more movies together but also claiming the second act couldn’t live up to the charm and energy of the first act. No harm, no foul. I went on with my life until earlier this week. Friend mentioned he was compiling a list of movies worth seeing in the past ten years, sent it my way. I spent my roommate’s two hour nap and change working on my own list and we compared notes. I realized I really was missing out by not seeing the most recent Bond movie and wishing I had caught up on a few more movies from 2022. When I turned it on last night, I was bowled over. Harris Dickinson, the star of Triangle of Sadness no less(!), was a dazzling Richard Attenborough. Sam Rockwell and Saoirse Ronan are electric as a comic duo. The casual sexist zingers are self-referentially satirical and the latent homoeroticism is just perfect for a budding Joseph Hansen fan like myself.

See How They Run does not concern itself with being relevant or commenting on Important Things. It’s a film that’s interested in commenting on genre, in ways that often more successful than less artful pictures like Isn’t It Romantic, possibly because of the room for cross cultural commentary, but also because of its attempt to posit other forces at work in poor adaptations, like the role of commercial interests in film adaptation and the juicy discussion of the pressures of injecting violence into the script. I deem this movie entirely watchable and palatable for the whole family, while also being quick and witty for any detective novel fans to catch the sly jokes that go over everyone else’s heads. In ten years this will not be the movie you regret seeing in 2022.

I was very underwhelmed by this. It feels so derivatively stylistically of Wes Anderson but also hampered by an uninteresting narrative with one-note characters.

Feels like Wes Anderson's version of "Knives Out"; his influence is more than noticeable, which makes the movie look somewhat derivative. Its self-awareness provides some fun and even witty moments, but the characters are too bland to get fully involved. Sam Rockwell goes full apathetic mode for his role, and although this allows us to see another side of the actor, the story does not fully develop a conflict in him. On the other hand, Saoirse Ronan is fine with the most memorable character of this whodunit. Expand

The cast is fine but the story is one that tries to be smart without really being smart. And it is so hard to get over that hump when you realize how shallow it truly is.

A lightweight whodunit centering around Agatha Christie's "The Mousetrap" (the previews give this away). If you've ever performed "The Mousetrap", it is absolutely a must-see! If you're a theater person, but haven't been affiliated with "The Mousetrap" or Agatha Christie, I still highly recommend this movie.

For everyone else: the acting is mostly top-notch, the direction, period production design, and cinematography were all fulfilling. But the script underneath it all leaves something to be desired.

Saoirse Ronan simply shines in her role, and her interactions with Sam Rockwell were wonderful.

I did running of my own to tell some theater friends about the film and saw it a second time with them in the cinema, simply because of its subject matter and well-crafted final product.

Funny dialogues that don't feel dumb and primitive. The comedy genre is now in fact dead, and See How They Run is one of not many examples of good comedy in recent years. The era of the 50s in England is not poorly transmitted either. And of course, a normal denouement in the spirit of the same Agatha Christie, in the circle of which the whole plot stands. Another thing is that the film tries to seem like a mystery, but it completely fails. But comedy is complete, taking into account excellent dialogue thanks to Saoirse Ronan. Stylistically, the film is very reminiscent of the work of Wes Anderson, here even the actors are the same) Expand

It doesn't completely deviate and the proceedings are competent enough, but that a film like this, which seemed so interesting and features a more than remarkable cast leaves you with no impression at the end, it reveals unequivocally that what was delivered was barely relevant.

That sounds like a really fun concept but unfortunately this movie lacks the charm of both Knives Out and Wes Anderson and the good characters of Knives Out with more of an emphasis on the Wes Anderson part. So now this movie is stuck in a rut of being overshadowed by much better projects. These characters are paper thin. Most of them are identified by one discernible trait that doesn’t get developed or played with other than Sam Rockwell’s character. It’s definitely trying to go for that Wes Anderson dry humor and performance but it doesn’t work here because it isn’t a Wes Anderson movie. Most of the actors are just okay with Saoirse Ronan feeling like the only actor putting in effort. The story here is definitely mimicking a play as the core of this story is centered around a play but it doesn’t fully go into that. The story isn’t set in one location or anything like that which the movie wants to do and the actual story itself doesn’t have any satisfying clues. The reveal itself is incredibly underwhelming because all the “clues” they leave aren’t really clues so the reveal comes out of nowhere in the worst way. This was very disappointing but it was clear to me that there was effort put into how the film looked. The production design, cinematography and lighting are all very well done but the story lets everything down. Just watch Knives Out or a Wes Anderson movie instead of this. Expand

I thought the first 50 minutes of See How They Run was the whole weakest part of the movie, it's not bad but it just feels weak, and the story well it's a standard "who did that" type of story with one twist that i actually quite like it and i did also find it quite creative, i think all the performance was good, the chemistry between Sam Rockwell and Saoirse Ronan was good, and the rest of the film was just getting better and better specifically the last 30 minutes of the film, i love the last 30 minutes of the film, with this whole average build up that's when things get real exciting, like i've said i'm not saying the first 50 minutes was bad i thought it was ok, it's not like i was super bored, well a little bit but not super, and the rest was just really really good, another big point that i give for this movie is because of this very Wes Anderson-ny style that are not exaggerating like the real Wes Anderson did with his nowadays movie and i appreciate See How They Run to nailed it every single time they use it, as a whole i think See How They Run was pretty good, still has it weakness but nailed it at the end.
