Jack Black is side-splittingly funny in this comedy about a fake substitute teacher (Black) and his attempt at turning a preppy elementry school class into rockers. A must-see if you like Black or bands like Led Zeppelin.

The film managesSchool of Rock is a film that has a phenomenal performance by Jack Black in a role he was born to play. In the sure hands of Richard Linklater, the film manages to avoid being too formulaic and is incredibly funny throughout. The film manages to not just be funny, however. Rather, it is also quite touching, entertaining, and moving, throughout as you see this man be "touched" by these kids and see the way he 'touches" them. Well-written and directed by Linklater, School of Rock also has a good performance from Joan Cusack and very impressive performances from the young kids who show tons of potential in this film. The main drawback is that some of the scenes are really hard to watch due to how uncomfortably awkward they are, but hey, that's just me. Coming into this one, I had pretty low expectations in spite of Linklater and came away quite impressed while also being quite entertained. A comedy film with heart. Expand

School of Rock is just another example of another solid Linklater film. Jack Black is in the role he was destined to play and you can sense his true passion for this project throughout the film. Everyone knows that working with kids in film can be hell but it works in School of Rock and they make it look so easy. If Black didn't have a good dynamic with the kids this movie would have been dead in the water and it was excellent. There are some great child actors in this film that are cute, funny and you believe the whole band even if they are all kids. The development is great for Black and the kids grow along with him which is really cute. The ending is really satisfying as well, it will leave you smiling. That's all I will say. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Leo loves School of Rock, and after watching with him, I can't say that I blame him. Jack Black stars as a (lazy?) rock musician that's struggling to get on his feet. His life is about showing it to the MAN but his lack of success in the band and mooching off of his friend dries up most of the paths that lay in his way.

In an extraordinary chain of events, Dewey ends up as a substitute teacher! By know we know that the story's going to be about him beating the odds beating the man and hiding from authority – in a way, acting more childish than the children. This teaching gig was supposed to bail him out, but as it becomes bigger the enthusiasm and love for rock and the kids grows and is infectious. Unrealistic as it may be, it's charming in the creative ways these kids band together and get involved.

School of Rock could have easily fallen multiple levels in quality by stooping to its audience, but instead it expected them to rise to meet the occasion, most of which would look this film straight in the eye and give it "two thumbs up." It's not cheesy, it's not real, it's rock. It doesn't try to be something it's not, and that's admirable. The relationships are real, the people are real, and so is the love of rock & roll. I can feel the passion.

Posing as a substitute music teacher at an elite private elementary school, he exposes his students to the hard rock gods he idolizes and emulates -- much to the consternation of the uptight principal (Joan Cusack). As he gets his privileged and precocious charges in touch with their inner rock 'n' roll animals, he imagines redemption at a local Battle of the Bands. Black's exuberant, gleeful performance turns School of Rock into a hilarious, rocking good time. Final Grade is a B+. Expand

A shining proof of Linklater's brilliance, even something known and outdated feels so fresh.

School Of Rock

Linklater's love for music is something that cannot be beaten. But I think someone is challenging him in this project. In fact, I'd say Jack Black wins this round by a marginal merit. And I know that he is the one in front of us, expressing his love, oozing the pulsating sound of electric guitar and screaming voices of rock gods, so he is ought to have larger section of the rope on his side in this tug of war. But I'd still lean towards him for he himself is a passionate musician and getting the opportunity to hone a character as mad as such, he has embodied the people loving personality with goofiness and spectacular flamboyancy.

The writer Mike White isn't putting anything new on the paper and neither is the director Richard Linklater. We've had plenty of such teacher tutoring the outer zonal students and in this process the teacher itself finds salvation at the end of the song. And it is not that Linklater doesn't acknowledge that fact, if anything he has brimmed his entire film with such scenarios, the cliched montage sequences, the structure, the detour, the issues, the rat in the house and every beat of the film that you would expect before going on in this genre.

Yet, with nuanced practical humor that borders around the lunacy factor in an upbeating track, you are nodding to all the theories Black proves here as a teacher, "E = mc^2" he concludes his lecture to little kids. There are plenty of long one take shots that leaves us mesmerized especially the first hilarious pitch of Black's still underproduction song and in fact any of his explanations are just pure joy; it feels like the actor him and not the character him, humming in the School Of Rock.

School Of Rock is honestly great. The movie's got a pretty good plot and it's pretty much about this lad called Dewey Finn (Jack Black) who's obsessed with rock music.

One day he ends up taking his friend's substitute teacher job for a school. So, he's got no qualifications for it but he just ends up starting to train the students to start a band.

The acting is pretty good from all the cast, especially Jack Black, he's honestly hilarious throughout this movie.

Also, the comedy throughout this movie works very well, I don't think any of the funny moments fall flat at any moment throughout this movie.

The movie's even got a pretty good soundtrack with lots of good old rock music from the 70s-80s.

Finally, the movie's got a lot of heart for their characters throughout this movie, which I really liked and you really do care about these characters quite a lot.

Overall, School Of Rock is honesty great. The movie's got a great plot, pretty good acting, brilliant funny moments and a pretty good soundtrack. If you're wanting to watch something funny with lots of good laughs, I'd highly recommend this movie, it's honestly worth the watch.
