I really love this flick. Sadly I can relate to Max's delusional characteristics. He is kind of pathetic in a loveable kind of way. Rushmore is a fantastic movie. It features all of Anderson's quirks and idiosyncrasies front and center. The film is funny, subtle and touching with terrific acting and sharp writing. Rushmore is funny, individual and highly influential in its style, seemingly inspiring just about every quirky school-based comedy of the 2000s, from Napoleon Dynamite to Juno. It's definitely Jason Schwartzman's film, and Max Fischer is oneRushmore is funny, individual and highly influential in its style, seemingly inspiring just about every quirky school-based comedy of the 2000s, from Napoleon Dynamite to Juno. It's definitely Jason Schwartzman's film, and Max Fischer is one of the most annoying egotistical brats ever committed to celluloid, but somehow he still remains a compelling protagonist thanks to Schwartzman's innate charm and undeniable skill as a character actor. Bill Murray and Olivia Williams are also great, with Murray giving one of his best performances in a role that is both comic and quite tragic, and Williams giving the film its real heart and humanity. The script, by director Wes Anderson and his permanent collaborator and longtime friend Owen Wilson, is brilliantly energetic, sharp and gag-laden, as well as being rather tender in places, and is far more successful than their screenplay for their debut film, Bottle Rocket. Occasionally the extreme kookiness of the characters and plot (often one of the film's greatest strengths) causes the film to lose a bit of focus and pace, but this rarely detracts from the fun of the whole experience - Rushmore is a really great film, with a top-notch cast, great writing, humour and poignancy aplenty.… Expand

Rushmore is extremely funny at times and Anderson did a magnificent job directing, just as the cast did with their roles. At times, Max was certainly almost painfully awkward, but despite this, everything was good. Would definitely recommend.

Rushmore is an interesting film. It is Wes Anderson's first big feature film (unless you want to count Bottle Rocket), so his signature quirky style isn't quite developed yet. However, there are elements present in the film that he later used more often in his movies. Consider this a pre-concert to his philharmonic debut.

As for the movie itself, it has a sweet story, and Jason Schwartzman's character is one that we can relate to. The concept of Rushmore itself is a metaphor tossed around during the film, and the movie's themes of loyalty and friendship are well-received.… Expand

Rushmore is Wes Anderson at his best, The character of Max is very intelligent and loveable, Jason Schwartzman was very good at entering into the character, Bill Murray also puts on a very great performance. Great Writing from Anderson and Wilson

The 1990s created some great films. Rushmore stands out as one of the greats of the decade. Memorable, funny, charming, sad, and with a great soundtrack, Rushmore really solidified Wes Anderson and Owen Wilson as great creative forces. And itThe 1990s created some great films. And it kickstarted the career of Jason Schwartzman and revitalized the career of Bill Murray.

One of my biggest regrets in life is that I did not see Rushmore until I was done with college. I definitely relate to Max, and I shared a lot of his traits when I was in high school and college: I struggled with grades, loved extra curriculars, struggled in love, loved theatre, had friends, was madly in love with women who never loved me back, and did things that hurt those people in an attempt to make them love me. If I had seen Rushmore earlier in my life, things definitely would have played out differently. Max Fischer is a great example of what NOT to do in your life, and he's incredibly relatable for me in that regard. The only person you'll hurt is yourself.

A great, fantastic coming of age story. Definitely check this one out!… Expand

I'm a massive Bill Murray fan and I like a lot of Wes Anderson's movies, so I was quite baffled when I watched this. I thought "WHAT THE **** AM I EVEN WATCHING?". It's hard to resist smiling through this movie. It's rarely laugh-out-loud funny, but there's an undeniable intrigue through the oddity of it all, and that's what gives the movie its strength.

Being a fan of so many Wes Anderson movies and Bill Murray I felt obliged to watch this film. I have to say I was not as thrilled or I simply didn't enjoy this movie as much as his other works. That is not to say this movie is not good, itBeing a fan of so many Wes Anderson movies and Bill Murray I felt obliged to watch this film. Hilarious from beginning to end, Rushmore is a laugh riot that will make you hurl over with painful laughter. The critics' reviews almost always credit Murray for being a "scene stealer". The cynical Rushmore is hilarious and in some way depressing. Wes Anderson's movies live in this strange universe that are both as intriguing as they're odd

Been a long times since I saw this and I bet I wouldn't think as highly of it now. Had it's moments, but overall kinda meh. I remember some things just didn't work. I did enjoy the female lead and some of Bill Murray's parts.

This is perhaps the most conventional of Anderson's films, but that might also make it his best. I can enjoy his overly stylized movies a great deal, but Rushmore never feels artificial or pretentious like those ones do. I can enjoy his overly stylized movies a great deal, but Rushmore never feels artificial or pretentious like those ones do. It's a little quirky but it's nowhere near the extreme end of the spectrum. It might also be Anderson's funniest movie. Why? It has the type of humor that pretty much anyone can get. You don't need to be a jaded cinephile to get a few laughs out of it. Murray & Schwartzman also make nearly perfect frienemies. I always feel like Murray's usually wasted by Anderson, but here he's let out of his cage. It's not perfect. It could have had a few more funny scenes, and occasionally its tones don't meld entirely successfully. But this is a real comedy, and I can't think of another Anderson movie that feels so much like it takes place in real life rather than some twee fantasy land. Max Fisher might also be his funniest character. In his own mind he's a total bad a#s. In reality he's a dweeb, but you can't deny that he's a dweeb with guts and one vicious attitude.… Expand

Smart and lucky prima opus of Wes Anderson. Brilliant performances, particullarly for fetish actor Jason Schwartzman as the tenth grade, well-intentioned, witt student. Nice choice for a weekend.

Schwartzman has never flexed his funnybones any further than this movie, with the exception of The Darjeeling Limited but that to me holds an altogether special meaning, as it probably is a Wes Anderson masterpiece which started off as a tribute to Satyajit Ray (The Man is a legend of film-making; You could Nayak of the year 1966 with subtitles or otherwise among other works of his to confirm my apparent hypothesis). Did I add how felt about Bill Murray's part in the movie? Well, it wouldn't come as a surprise to say that he is hilarious in Anderson-ic speech and awkwardness of character. His pained but undefeated grimace in the scene where he is beset upon by bees and then retaliates 'appropriately' is purely comedy gold (Check out the revenge montage of Rushmore even if you don't watch the movie. It might just convince to do otherwise).
Olivia Williams was a revelation for me in this movie because I had never seen before this one. And her character as stuck but beautiful damsel-in-distress woman who needs to be wooed by two friends who are separated by an age gap of 35 years or so is just... well, you get it, don't you?
This is not my favourite Wes Anderson work, in fact it would least favourite of the six movies of his that I avidly love but that is only because unspoken uncertainty in the movie that i couldn't over or there too many bits I loved in it than the whole it presented. But this last bit of criticism is a personal thing and it really shouldn't hinder people from watching it. Enjoy a high school filled with love and vengeance and facing-tomorrow like never seen with the paintbrush of Anderson's touch.… Expand

The symmetric world of Wes Anderson, is bang on bucks as it moves swiftly and keeps it to the point whilst depicting the characteristics of the characters and doesn't grow obvious or pretentious for a frame. The unresolved issues of the protagonist is what fuels this plot driven feature where its newer structure and unpredictable revelation is what keeps the audience engaged throughout the course of it where they are barely allow to breathe. It is short on technical aspects like sound department and background score but has got it right on its d.o.p. and editing. Wes Anderson and Owen Wilson keeps the amusing aspect of the characters alive throughout the course of it and addition to that Anderson's keen knowledge on executing an eerie world, favors in on huge margin. Jason Schwartzman is flat out hilarious on his role as a protagonist and is supported thoroughly by Bill Murray and Olivia Williams. The gripping screenplay and the space allotted to each character to fit in and flaunt their effective act, is what makes it dig deeper than its potential. Rushmore is a fast paced train that never derails from its tone but is also a long overcooked journey that can be off putting for some viewers.… Expand

Really good. You can see where Andersons specific style originated. I could actually watch this for another hour to see the rest of the months. One of my favorite Bill Murray performances.

Rushmore is just a very silly love story about a 15 year old Max who have a crush with his own teacher, a very pretty and beautiful teacher that somehow someway attracted to an 80 year old Bill Murray more than Max, it's silly and i don'tRushmore is just a very silly love story about a 15 year old Max who have a crush with his own teacher, a very pretty and beautiful teacher that somehow someway attracted to an 80 year old Bill Murray more than Max, it's silly and i don't quite like that kind of concept, the movie did kinda a right thing in the middle of the film but then ended up in the way that i don't like half of it, means that i like that they do with that way to him but i don't like that they do that way to him if you get it, i like the style of the movie, i think this is the first movie that Wes Anderson started to use the usual "Wes Anderson style" even though it's still a little bit but i like it, like Bottle Rocket the movie fills with good music, i like each of the performances, i did enjoy the movie all the way through, and i laugh at some of the comedy scene, but again the story is somewhat more important than all of that and it is the biggest cons of the film for me, Rushmore is not a bad movie it's more of like a very silly movie but not in a good way.… Expand
