It's not perfect, but it's a heartwarming story about friendship with a good message, and I had a good time with it.

This movie was so good, much better than I anticipated! I almost cried multiple times, tbh. Great visual, great story, and great characters!

It’s not just a hilarious buddy-comedy about a socially anxious kid and his malfunctioning robot, it’s a SCATHING commentary on the capitalistic nature of big tech and the nightmarish consequences it can have when given free reign. Some of the characters in the film that seem like one-dimensional stereotypes at first actually get fleshed out over the course of the film’s runtime, which adds a lot of thematic depth to the plot as an unexpectedly poignant reflection of today’s youth. Almost everything about “Ron’s Gone Wrong” is subversive and ridiculously entertaining, and it truly deserves the acclaim it’s getting right now. Expand

Big Hero 2: Don't hesitate to watch Soul. Even if my ex-girlfriend didn't like animation movies, I would have watched movies like Eternals or Dune once more.

Despite being very formulaic and lacking any particular style when it comes to its art design and animation quality theres a heart that beats true at the centre of it and the excellent voice cast keep things entertaining. Worth a watch if you're a fan of this type of family animation. Expand

The writing was outstanding, the lines written for Ron's character were hilarious and I loved how they choose to explore more mature themes while still being perfect for kids but also adults they did a excellent job at exploring what it means to be friends, loving yourself for who you are, and how nowadays we are way to overly obsessed with wanting to be liked by random people online that we forget about what is important. The animation was superb. The performances from Zach Galifianakis and Jack Dylan Grazer we're exceptional, some of the best voice-over work I've seen in awhile. An A+ very underappreciated movie with beautiful messages. Expand

The Challenges of being a middle schooler, including wanting to fit in, are universal.
Ron's Gone Wrong is an outstanding animated film, written by Peter Baynham and Sarah Smith. It really connects with its audience through funny jokes and loveable characters, while also delivering the important message that no matter how kids present themselves, especially in middle school, they all are experiencing similar challenges and feelings. This message is very important, especially for young kids and teens to hear, and Ron's Gone Wrong brings this theme to light.

The storyline follows a socially awkward middle schooler named Barney (Jack Dylan Grazer), who is ostracized because he does not own the hottest new piece of tech -- a B-bot, or a digitally connected "Best Friend Out of the Box." That changes when his grandmother and father surprise him for his birthday with his very own B-bot, although this B-bot is a bit different than what he expected.

The film is critical of social media replacing friendships in real life and the potential of tech companies to violate people's privacy. One of the characters has an embarrassing image of her go viral through her B-bot, resulting in her feeling embarrassed and being unable to take it down. Ron's Gone Wrong has a very talented, all-star cast. Jack Dylan Grazer's portrayal of Barney makes him believable and relatable as a middle school outcast. Another hilarious cast member is Zach Galifianakis, who voices the defective B-bot, Ron. He cracks me up and makes this movie so funny. Director Octavio Rodriguez creates a vibrant, colorful animation style that brings these characters to life - especially the B-bots, but also the goat and chicken that belong to Barney's grandmother who is from "the old country."

The primary message is that the challenges of being a middle schooler, including wanting to fit in and make friends, are universal. There is also a critical message about the danger of too much technology and its impact on kids and the world. Parents should know there is some animated violence when Ron goes after Barney's bullies, but overall, the film is very positive.
I give Ron's Gone Wrong 5 out 5 stars and I highly recommend it for ages 9 to 18, plus adults. I love this movie and believe you will too.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Ron Gone Wrong isnt wrong. It has some interesting ideas but the execution is more or less mediocre. Dont get me wrong (no pun intended), the movie has moments where it shines. Like the relationship between Ron and Barney, which develops little by little (although it has its flaws, which I'll talk about later), some action scenes, their messages and the true intentions of Marc Wydell (the creator of the b-bots) . However, the movie doesnt exploit any of this, staying halfway. Barney is the typical cliche protagonist who has social problems, then there are the typical school bullies, the crazy granny and the girl who only cares about fame. Of course, it is later revealed to us that they were friends, but this revelation is super forced, and it does not seem to combine anything with the personality of our protagonist, in addition to the fact that it is not clear why they did not see each other again. There are also unfortunately plot holes and forced and silly humor, as well as outdated references to internet culture (although the latter is only in rare situations so it's not a big deal). Also, the movie doesnt tell why Ron doesnt have Marc code, how Rich Belcher B-bot hacks Ron despite not being connected to the Internet and lacking many of the basic functions and why does Barney get mad at Ron halfway through the movie? Although Barney can have a social mental problem, so this is understandable.
Compared to Robot 7723 this movie lacks in many areas, the relationship between an human with problems and a robot could be made so much emotional and better, and since the movie doesnt balance well the serious tone with its humour, i didnt feel worried with Barney almost any time. I still think is decent to watch, if you have nothing better to do. I would say Marc and Ron saved this movie, because the rest of the characters are so generic and forgettable (included the main villian) and these two where the only ones with an unique personality.
