Ride or Die is basically an erotic drama / thriller.
A kind of Thelma & Louise, where the romance - if I can call it that way - is completely explored, and is very raw, primal and initially violent.
Like the other film I just saw today, Ride
Ride or Die is basically an erotic drama / thriller.
A kind of Thelma & Louise, where the romance - if I can call it that way - is completely explored, and is very raw, primal and initially violent.

Like the other film I just saw today, Ride or Die is also based on a manga.
A completely adult manga from what I understand, and if you watch the movie you will know what I mean.

Although the beginning of the story doesn't really address explanations about the violent event that ends up being the catalyst for this story, it's fair to admit that when this is revealed, one cannot help but think how it was that what initially only seemed like an implicit act, caused another person to decided to shed blood for her lover, and at the same risk everything for it.

What follows doesn't justify the excessive length, because while it's attractive to try to discover where the thing is heading while tensions simmer, the script doesn't fill in the gaps with scenes that provide something truly substantial, but despite the drops in the pace, this in my opinion never became harmful.
However, it's still necessary to mention that it was necessary to know where to cut.

The ending, like all the journey, unequivocally provokes wondering if there was no other way for the protagonists, because the ending is harshly distressing for one, while the other apparently has accepted with resignation what follows.

There is no catharsis, at least not as far as I can see, and of course there's no happy ending, but perhaps the conclusion is not rooted on trying to get them one, nor is it accepting that irrationalities have been committed as an expression of love.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. If you would only look at the cinematography it could be a big meh. But when you look beyond it, it is really great. The emotions, the acting, the lines, and the whole scenario itself is really great. The tragic outcome of loving someone so deep thatbyou are willing to commit anything.... even if it means murder.
