Milla Jovovich puts in a superb performance as Alice, who is lead into an underground base of a multi-national corporation to do battle with a series of ghoulies and monsters, including a horde of the undead. With terrific co-star Michelle Rodriguez, there is never a dull moment, moving at a furious pace with just the right mix of dry humour, mystery that surrounds the "Umbrella Corporation" and its motives, and impressive action sequences featuring an agile Jovovich in the dress she's barely wearing performing some remarkable stunts.… Expand

Personally, I think RE is one of the best movies I've ever seen, and trust me, I've seen a lot of movies! While I'm a huge fan of pretty much anything Resident Evil, I can't let that affect my honest review. The movie isn't so bad and I do watch it from time to time. I actually enjoyed this movie a lot. I played the games and am well aware of the "lore" of RE, but sometimes the movies don't need to follow exactly. Plus, this is kind of new territory here, with the movie actually coming after the I actually enjoyed this movie a lot. A movie that bad should make you *literally* vomit in your mouth, unable to even watch it in its entirety and sad for the plot of humanity and anyone's soul who came within 10 feet of it. I disagree with that critics 33-or-something score, it's actually the best movie out of all the RE saga. It has a pretty well developed and isolated enviroment, a nice horror mood to it, plus convincing characters and actors.

It's a really entertaining movie, but Is it Resident Evil? Certainly not. It would've been cooler if they had actually followed the game's storyline.

I originally watched "Resident Evil" at a movie theater when it was first released in 2002. I hadn't played the games. There was no Rotten Tomatoes and I didn't read reviews back then so I went in blind. And I utterly enjoyed the movie: the story, the action sequences, the underground "Hive," Mila Jovovich and Michelle Rodriguez kicking serious ass, and more. Panned by critics (36% RT) but liked by users (67% RT), Resident Evil was one of the first examples of how mainstream critics just don't "get" horror. Movies that try to be artsy get great reviews even as key elements fall flat for the rest of us. The recent "Beach House" is a perfect example of this -- it was loved by critics (81% RT) and panned by users (28%). Unfortunately, the rest of the "Resident Evil" sequels except for a few moments, rarely captured that first movie's originality and allure. Instead, check out the writer/director's excellent previous outing "Event Horizon."… Expand

This was... alright. It didn't follow the RE lore exactly, though did a good job with story telling.

I've always been a fan of the RE games because of their gameplay and not so much for their story or characters so this movie really elevated the whole brand when it came out. The story here is much more contained both in scope and settingI've always been a fan of the RE games because of their gameplay and not so much for their story or characters so this movie really elevated the whole brand when it came out. The story here is much more contained both in scope and setting building up tension continuously before an electrifying escape from the hive. OST and cast are also great!

At that time the games were more horror oriented than action packed tps so it made sense for the movie to be such a tense thriller and honestly I have always felted it lacked a bit of gore. But it does one thing right that many horror movies fail to realise: make you care for the characters and then kill them all. That's a key ingredient that eventually will be lost throughout this series also because of problems casting the same actors in the sequels.

This has become such a classic as while being a modest budget movie it was capable of doing better than the original material and and becoming iconic on its own merits. There are a few boring and cheap moments like the escape through the pipes scene but it also perfectly ties to the Final Chapter which sheds new light on so many details in a clever way. Paul W.S. Anderson is objectively not a good writer but did well here and he's a great director with a unique visual style. You can see it in the beautiful sets designed for this movie and the rest of the franchise. I honestly think he quite invented a new genre with this series and this is the beginning of it all. "My name is Alice and this is my story" (worth over 1B$) 8/10 Read my other RE reviews, here's my ranking:

Resident evil tries too much to be like the games and it's not really a good result.The fight scenes are cheesy and and the last monster is made with some incredibly bad CGI effects.

One of the better videogame adaptations. I must also point out the movie uses only themes, names, concepts and ideas and is not a direct adaptation of any game in the series. Resident Evil while not inventing the genre is the poster child forOne of the better videogame adaptations. I must also point out the movie uses only themes, names, concepts and ideas and is not a direct adaptation of any game in the series. Resident Evil while not inventing the genre is the poster child for survival horror games and a well know series in the industry. Over the years there were many games, spin offs, remakes and some controversies. Mainly the game focus on characters stuck in nightmarish situations caused by a virus that causes the transformation into zombies and even far worse creatures. An evil company is behind it in the earlier games. Back to the movie: In a secret underground Umbrella Cooperation laboratory called the hive a sample of a virus and the antidote is stolen. To hide all evidence the cult-print spreads the virus in the complex. The AI named Red Queen is now in full damage control and quarantine mode. Nearby the protagonist Alice awakens in a mansion without remembering anything and is shortly after recruited by a heavily armed group that stormed the house and wanted to enter the hive. So starts the story. We got some good twists, action and menacing situations that have to be solved. The actors are good and deliver mostly. Milla Jovovich is excellent as lead actress in this kind of movies. The rest of the cast is maybe a bit underused or underdeveloped. I only remember Michelle Rodriguez and Eric Mabius to have bigger moments that made them interesting with exception of Heike Makatsch ( Maybe because of a very short screen time). Additionally the script is really good for this kind of movie. There is no time to bore the watcher which means also good pacing. Remember this is an action horror movie and does not have or need a Shakespearean story as it would be not expected. The special effects however looked really good for the time and budget. Overall this is a decent or even good videogame movie. Worth watching and has memorable moments (The Laser scene is often quoted). Be warned that the sequels are not as good and especially the final movie has an awful conclusion.… Expand

They feel claustrophobic and unsettling just like the earlier games on Sony's PlayStation. The environments involving underground tunnels and labs are definitely the film's strong point. Overall, it's an average movie that's easy on the eyes. For a movie adaption of a video game it could be worse. Just don't expect good acting and sadly no "Jill sandwich" lines.… Expand

I used to love this movie so much especially being such a huge fan of the video games when this came out I loved it, out of all the movies this one is probably the one that has more horror elements. That being said the acting and some of the affects haven't aged as well especially Michelle Rodriguez I just can’t stand her trying to act she is so terrible overall though I enjoyed watching this movie again it came out almost 18 years ago so it doesint hold up as much as I would like it too but it’s still a fun zombie movie and one of those movies that reminds me of my childhood.… Expand

Based on the game franchise 'Resident Evil' by Capcom. A company that is very influential in the world, be with money or political situations, very poweful in different sectors of society. That company develop strange and dangerous stuff in their secret underground location, in one day they face a situation where one virus, the T-Virus, got exposed in the facility and all of the employees died becaused of that. A team is sent there to figure the situation and solve some problems, what they weren't expecting is that they would find a bunch of living dead persons, animals and monsters down there to confront. Directed and Written by Paul W. S. Anderson.]
The main story of the film is beyond simple, but honestly, very functional, i think that it did a good job in that. We have some side stories that i'm not so sure, there are the story between Alice and the brother and sister, Matt and Lisa that also got Spencer envolved, i know that the whole point of this part in the plot was to have a reason for the the T-Virus to get exposed and have another antagonist further the zombies, but i don't think that it would be that necessary, the final motivation of what was done there doesn't seem to be worth it, but isn't horrible neither, i just think it could have been better at those moments. The overall of the story is basically get inside of an unfamiliar place for a mission, finding out that it is hostile and trying to get out, but what they face in there and how they do it, for me it is a good point, the situations and arguing with the red queen, the struggle that they went trough, not perfect, but really good.
There are some moments that are really funny, but not intentionally, how the team moves, the songs that are played in some parts, some moments are goofy, some work and others doesn't.
The action plus horror are funny in some moments, creepy in others and they try to have some badass moments that don't really work. The laser room, for me it is a great sequence, the song, what is happening, it was so distressing, first, not knowing what was going to happen, and then after each time things got more tense and nervous, i could see myself in that **** situation. The first time the team met the zombies were really good, they figuring what they were doing or what was going on, i enjoyed. Now, there are some moments in slow motion, or when Alice faces the Licker, where they tried to be so epic that i found bad, doing acrobatic moviments, or fighting the Licker in a way that it would only work if she was way stronger than it, so there are some moments that was poorly done.
The Licker CGI is terrible, and they don't try to hide it in any way, when bad cgi's like this happens, the good to do would be try to hide it, only showing the cgi in dark places and hiding it in smokes or shadows, but in here they used it in places with high lights and together with the actors, so it got really bad in some moments.
The atmosphere in this film is really nice, the whole idea of being confined in a unkown place with a bunch of zombies is so dark and feels so good to be in a place like that in this film. The scenarios are all very nice and are essential to making this film that fun. The whole labs and rooms that we go into this movie have such of a dark sense, it is like you can feel the evil, the death in those places, it is so well done. Still about the ambience in this film, how the details in scenario and mise-en-scene made so much difference in making this film good, i love so much the atmosphere, objects destroyed, tables turned and covered in blood, broken glasses on the ground, grids cutted off, cages and a lot of strange stuff with pipes, sewer, flooded places. All of that together with the the zombies plus being under the ground helped into making this that nice.
The sound design is also very good, the choices that they made in here in a lot of moments making echoing sounds that the characters don't know what it is, hearing from far away, im some momentos coming from different places, it can give a paranoid position that, for me, worked really fine. Sounds of muttering, groan, incomprehensible sounds in some situations, things being dragged. Still helping into making the atmosphere to work perfectly. The soundtrack have a lot of metal songs, during action moments it worked and made some scenes being funny, probably not intentioned, but still made me laugh. The score have some nice fatures, the sounding and the less of it in other moments do a good job, helps in composing the scenes.
This first Resident Evil movie is really good and very different from the others, even if there are a few moments where you can have a shot of what is going to become, but in here the atmosphere is perfect, there jumpscares and good moments, not intentionally funny moments, really fun film.… Expand

I'm a big fan of the Resident Evil games and I was so excited by the prospect of this film coming out especially since one of my favorite directors was doing it. I was a huge fan of both Mortal Kombat and Event Horizon. I was a huge fan of both Mortal Kombat and Event Horizon. I absolutely loved this movie and I still do. This adaptation is sort of a prequel to the first game. The movie centers around a young woman that awakes in a shower with no memory of who she was and why she was there. Soon after she discovers that the house she was in was on top of a top secret facility tat stored bio weapons. One was released and has transformed the recently dead into zombies from people to animals. The movie plays out as if you were playing the game and you are her character, learning about herself and leveling up. The movie is highly atmospheric and very entertaining. Milla Jovovich is such a bad ass and the movie is so stylish with an amazing score by Marilyn Manson. It's not flawless Michelle Rodriguez's performance is a bit extra and some of the digital FX have not aged well. That being said its still fun and surprisingly scary. This is more of a horror film than the rest and pays homage to the undead classics of yesteryear lovingly. I know alot of people don't really care for it but this is definitely my thing. Plus it has the best cliffhanger ending of any movie ever made.

I enjoyed this movie. I don't know about the sequels yet but this one was fun to watch. Casting and acting was okay except the main leading actress. Plot was simple but shown in effective way. "Resident Evil" is a zombie movie based on a famous game franchise. The movie is different from the game and offers new perspective and entertainment, if and only if you can handle the cheesy dialogue and the lost-its-way plot of the movie.

I appreciated the fact that there was a plot, and a pretty decent one at that. It wasn't just the characters pulling ammo out of their asses and killing hundreds of zombies. Considering how low a budget this film had, it was really surprising just how far they stretched it. This is perhaps the only Resident evil (non-animated) movie that I liked. I really like that they decided not to just remake the story from the games and make an original character with her own story. I really like Alice and Milla does a great job playing her. Rodriguez also does a good job but she more or less just plays the same character that she always plays. The rest of the cast were just forgettable. As to the movie as a whole, it was a decent horror that did have some chills and did a good job capturing the tone of the games, or at least the first two games. Overall: An enjoyable movie that is perhaps one of the better video game movie adaptations.… Expand

i thought this movie was an alright start to the resident evil franchise despite not following the original game series storyline. the story was satisfactory not perfect and the cast performed well and convincingly. i would recommend this movie

I've never played the video games so I can't compare this to them, but I can tell you this is a very enjoyable Zombie movie, this movie actually made me jump twice, it's really a great movie, and I'm looking forward to the other movies in the series.

It isn't a movie that's going to set the world on fire and it certainly isn't the best video game adaptation out there, but Resident Evil succeeded mildly at making an entertaining, if boring at times, film. When i first watched it i thought it was ok but after afew more views i realised it could have been done alot better and by then i was over the dissapointing licker scene and the flying dog kick scene.

Going back and prefering it and the sequels now ,the reason for it is because im now in my thirties and when i first watched it i was in my early early twenties and a massive Res fan.
Theres always room for another director to try again or maybe enjoy what Capcom are bringin to the screen and with a great start from Res Evil:Degeneration which is a complete graphical movie it does a better job of catering for the fans.
All that aside though,coming back to these films i realise its not great but good is good enough especially when so much crap is coming out these days that this film and its sequels are quiet enjoyable afterall. Just dont expect too much.… Expand

Till now, this movie absolutely blew my brains into watching a hot chick kill zombies with a bang. Well, that's what Resident Evil is for. Based on a video game, its a whole mess of a movie. Poor dialog. No real plot. Predictable flow. Sloppy filming and editing (I counted a boom in the shot on no fewer than 7 times). I reccommend rental over purchase.

As a big fan of the games and other zombie movies, I was very disappointed! The only good part was the end, which 28 Days Later did much better. Not scary at all, and the CGI monster looked like crap!

D. Perry's 7 books on it and i had finally found out that the movies do, in fact, suck. they're an abomination, a disgrace to what RE stood for in the games; the acting was terrible, there was none of the monsters in the movies save for a couple. none of the characters were even in the movies; Alice is just a cheap Mary-Sue who probably only got into the movies because she was with the director. as far as i'm concerned the movie was made in hollywood to only make a quick buck and nothing else; the people who decided to do the movie like this are nothing more than selfish, money-hungry assbags. now, i know what the few fans of these awful movies are going to say "don't like it, don't watch" well ya know what? if i had ANY idea of how terrible these movies actually were BEFORE watching i never would have! So disappointed...and i HATE Paul bloody Anderson for screwing up the franchise...i only hope that Karma comes back and chews his self-centered ass out...Milla's too. Too bad Romero's script wasn't chosen instead- apart from Chris being a farmer (!!) it sounded excellent when i read the script. Total let down, one of mine, and a lot of other people's, biggest disappointments. Shame on you Anderson, hope you get LOTS of hatemail! which of course he most likely does :) I actually feel a little better for getting that off my chest (: oh well, i least i've got the books and games of RE, they are awesome!… Expand

Can be disappointing on so many levels, but even though it doesn't do a good job of adapting the game, I still find this entertaining and watchable. I actually kinda wanted to like "Resident Evil", but in the end, it's just too silly for me to really recommend it. Even though it's not really awful, it's never any more than cheap mediocrity, rushed plotwriting, suspenseless action, shallow performances, annoyingly loud and pompous synth/electric music score that saps all atmosphere from decent setpieces, and (although this was made around the youth of CGI) some of the worst computer effects I've ever seen. Some of these things I didn't mind so much by the end of the movie, and if it was a little neater, more polished and enjoyed the atmosphere over vapid gore and jump scares, I probably would consider it a decent one-time watch. That being said, it's only a fun idea falling short of any memorable entertainment, despite having Michelle Rodriguez shooting zombies.… Expand

That movie was good and bad points. I liked the actors, the soundtrack, the mistory about how the virus escaped. Mila is good actress, the script is original, but is not amazing, is just "another hollywood action movie".

Or, contre toute attente, il n'en est rien... ou pas complètement en tout cas. Le scénario comporte quelques trous et emprunte moult raccourcis faciles ; l'ensemble fait un tantinet naveton (c'est-à-dire petit navet) de bas étage et la réalisation bien qu'assez présentable est souvent brouillonne.

Milla n'est certes pas aussi flamboyante que dans Jeanne d'Arc, c'est le moins qu'on puisse dire mais elle se débrouille... évidemment, je suis parti pris, car j'apprécie beaucoup Milla. Pour l'épauler, on est content de retrouver Mademoiselle Rodriguez, l'oeil mauvais, la moue merveilleusement boudeuse et le doigt sur la détente : une parfaite tirailleuse.

Les autres sont des branques et de la chair fraîche pour le broyeur... on apprécie d'ailleurs à leur juste valeur de jolies scènes gore très drolatiques. Finalement avec cette fin ouverte, ce premier Resident Evil filmé pose d'assez bonnes bases pour des suites plus ou moins jouasses !… Expand

The laser corridor, Rain's first zombie encounter and the final battle on the train are among the films highlights, and Mila Jovovich and Michelle Rodriguez put on decent performances. This film is easily worth a rent; remember that these critics putting down Resident Evil are the same ones that said Pirates Of The Carribean was not a fun film.… Expand

I think I played Resident Evil 3 briefly a long time ago but that's where my experience with the series ends. The first film in the series is a bit of a guilty pleasure of mine. Resident Evil works as a pretty decent example of both an action and a horror movie - the set pieces are entertaining and stylish, there are a couple of decent scares and the whole film maintains momentum (if not quite tension) throughout. Milla Jovovich has another ballsy action heroine role to add to her C.V., and while Alice is not quite up there with Leeloo, she's a solid protagonist that does exactly what is required of her, that is to say she still kicks serious undead behind. The rest of the cast, and their characters are generic and unmemorable, and as is traditional with this kind of film, it quickly becomes a game of "who's going to be zombie lunch next". Will we ever see Michelle Rodriguez playing a different character? It's highly doubtful, but hey, she's got a good thing going with type-casting, so who am I to judge. The script is also pretty clunky, but at the end of the day it's just an action-horror movie, and one based on a video game at that, so you don't expect much in that regard. The CGI was also never top-of-the-line (being a film entirely financed by small European studios) and these effects look even worse today, so thankfully they're used sparingly. You can have a pretty good time with Resident Evil if you're prepared to gloss over a few issues, and just take it for what it is - a bit of fun. You'll really see it at its very best if you watch it with a couple of friends, perhaps with a beer or two, then you can all indulge in what makes it good entertainment, and as one, you can also ridicule what makes it...less good. Just sit back, leave your brain outside and enjoy the ride. And watch out for the lasers.… Expand

It feels like they totally forget they were making a Resident Evil movie until we are 2/3 into it. The dialogue is poorly written, The acting is overly serious and comes off as almost comedic at times because it feels so forced. And the storyIt feels like they totally forget they were making a Resident Evil movie until we are 2/3 into it. The dialogue is poorly written, The acting is overly serious and comes off as almost comedic at times because it feels so forced. And the story just isn't there, especially with all of these on the nose references to Alice in Wonderland placed throughout the movie.

Not sure where they got that idea. We are all about serving stakeholders (business major joke). That said, though entertaining, its thematic undertakings are done via force feeding. Additionally, the film is plagued by cliches, poor dialogue, bad writing, bad acting, and now aged effects. When Resident Evil hits, however, its tension is hard to deny.

First, the negatives. The writing - both in the dialogue and character development - is horrific. Apparently Milla Jovovich is named Alice in this film and Michelle Rodriguez is Rain. Maybe I missed that, but even their names are barely developed here minus a few mentions here-and-there. The film tries to play this off by having Alice suffer from amnesia in the beginning, but this barely works when the audience does not even really know who Alice is either. This prevents the audience from being able to really develop any form of connection with her character, beyond the primal need to survive. The bad dialogue in the film is accentuated by poor delivery at times that really pulls you out of the moment. For example, the final sequence on the train has Generic White Male Character #3 yell something to Alice and both of them totally blow their lines. This really kills the momentum of an otherwise tense sequence by pulling you out of it. Essentially, the acting in Resident Evil makes you realize it is a film.

The cliches are far too many to list out, but obviously, Resident Evil's approach to zombies is hardly unique. Every other zombie movie has headshots as the means of death and it has been to death at this point. Fortunately, the film felt the need to try and revive this cliche. The film also lumps in a malevolent computer system, poorly behaving corporations, superviruses, hidden antiviruses, and "unexpected" zombie transformations to the cliche equation. The film's cliches even do brush against its thematic elements. Not only are these anti-business elements spelled out for the audience by explaining that businesses never learn and never care about others, but these are wildly typical. Resident Evil is hardly profound in this arena and makes the film feel all the more cliche. By the time this film came out, audiences had been introduced to the concept that businesses were evil sometimes and did not need to see this mentioned here. Director Paul W.S. Anderson is hardly pulling the wool away from the audience's eyes here, especially since the Enron scandal happened in October 2001. Of course, this is hardly the first business scandal on the books. Films that try and have some kind of thematic element need it to actually be, well, worthwhile. When everybody already agrees and the film spells it out for you, it is highly likely to fall on deaf ears as it does here.

All of this said, Resident Evil can be a highly successful film at times and is undeniably fun. For action junkies, Resident Evil will deliver the requisite adrenaline boost. With great scenes of horror blended with good music and good action sequences, Resident Evil can really leave you on the edge of your seat, waiting in dread for what is around the next corner. Many love Anderson's work on the horror film Event Horizon (have yet to see it myself) and it is easy to see why here. Resident Evil definitely scares and use the mystery of the situation its protagonists finds themselves in to really ramp up the horror and the tension.

Overall, since it is an action film, I feel the need to be lenient on Resident Evil. Its action set pieces are great fun and really well-executed. For all of his faults as a director, Anderson knows action. Sadly, the film simply has nothing else below the surface to survive and simply self-destructs.… Expand

Clearly, the film series is going to have a completely different direction and take place in a different fictional universe than the games. Frankly, there's nothing encouraging to see in this movie. It's just another plotless, formulaic, cheesy and unnecessarily violent movie based on a famous videogame franchise. Stay away from this, please.

A bit shaky here and there but it didn't try to overstep too far except with the CGI work. Waiting a few years may have helped with that. I feel like the scale was shortened a bit soon. Of course that is notorious in horror movies. Probably the coolest guy in the movie died before he could show off how BA he is. Annoying. I love Milla though. She is a cutie while still being an awesome female action hero. This is one of her first tries in that role and she handles it alright. It is your standard zombie movie. I don't why people feel like you need to make zombies more complicated, its simple they are mindless and slow they die with a head shot there is just a freakin lot of them. While being bloody and gruesome the human touch and feeling didn't get lost, they really tried to save each other and not be stupid. It became what it intended I suppose. A shooter zombie flick based on a popular video game. Not overly impressive in any way. Watch it if you want. I won't stop you.… Expand

That venerable horror subgenre, the zombie movie — immortalized by George A. Romero in his “Living Dead” trilogy — gets a malnourished rebirth in “Resident Evil,” the long-in-development screen adaptation of the hugely popular videogame franchise.

Co-written and directed by the young British director Paul Anderson (who, apparently to avoid confusion with Paul Thomas Anderson, now calls himself Paul W.S. Anderson), German-shot and financed pic works as a prequel to the games, although it uses many of the games’ popular zombie characters (with such indelible names as the Licker, the Crows and the Zombie Dogs).

Short prologue is set inside the sprawling underground research labs of Umbrella Corp., known as the Hive. Umbrella appears to be an all-purpose household company but is actually the front for a top-secret military technology and genetic experimentation operation. (It’s a subject fit for Romero, and he did write the first script and had been set to direct.)

Anderson (who directed the videogame adaptation “Mortal Kombat”) maps out the Hive’s infrastructure, satirizing the security paranoia. The Hive’s security is regulated by an artificially intelligent computer called the Red Queen (one of a series of Lewis Carroll allusions); 10 minutes in, the Red Queen locks down the Hive and begins a series of defensive measures (including releasing poisonous gas into densely populated workspaces). A deadly virus was released into the Hive’s ventilation system, and the Red Queen, who behaves like a menstruating Hal 9000, will do anything, ANYTHING to keep it contained.

Enter some soldiers, including One (Colin Salmon) and Rain (Michelle Rodriguez), dispatched to shut the Red Queen down. They’re accompanied by Alice (Jovovich), a soldier with a temporary memory loss, and by Matt (Eric Mabius), who claims to be a cop.

They shut the Red Queen down, but in doing so the Hive’s passageways are unlocked, giving free reign to hundreds of contaminated workers who, as a result of their exposure to the virus, are now very undead.

The manic zombie mayhem that ensues — unfolding “High Noon”-style in real time — is in many ways a scene-for-scene copy of Romero’s 1985 “Day of the Dead.” But, unlike Romero, Anderson fails to situate “Resident Evil” zombies within any larger social context.

Anderson’s script lines up all the elements for a B-movie quickie: the multiethnic cast, the chicks who kick ass and the traitor-in-our-midst scenario. But Anderson is too set on making an A-picture here, focusing on a series of exhaustingly routine big-action set pieces. Like the recent “Queen of the Damned,” “Resident Evil” seems conceived more out of a desire to provide lip service to fans of the underlying source material than to make compelling entertainment. Anderson’s zombie shenanigans are as empty as “Queen of the Damned’s” vampire theatrics.

Nonetheless, Anderson’s surface effects are occasionally admirable. Pic relies more on prosthetic makeup and animatronic f/x than on digital technology, giving pic’s zombies and other assorted monsters a more organic sense of form and movement.

Pic is reasonably accomplished technically, though Richard Bridgland’s production design is standard-issue futuristic grunge, recalling similar futurescapes from Anderson’s own “Soldier” and “Event Horizon,” as well as last summer’s “John Carpenter’s Ghosts of Mars.”… Expand

In this context you can have fun with this film but certainly not if you expect anything thought-provoking or technically impressive.
On the long list of bad video game adaptations to film it may sit in a decent mediocre spot but considering how awful these movies generally are you should actually expect less than average from this film. If you want to watch something really good, then avoid this one.… Expand

I don’t know why but it took about 40 minutes just to get a zombie sure the mainstays are here like the G-Virus and T-Virus but true fans know that the characters are what’s missing where’s Jill Valentine or Chris Redfield they are not here we get Alice and some other people even Michelle Rodriguez is in this and those are the only two characters to really care about. There are some awful character designs for the Lickers they look nasty the CGI used for them is gross and makes it look terrible even in the second one which when I’m writing this review look just as terrible. Overall this movie sucks it’s nothing like the games there are no horror, no stakes it’s just bad don’t watch it unless you really want to.… Expand
