Shame on you Amenabar!!

It's not a horror story, although the trailer tries to paint it as one. It's not really a mystery either. You can't even call it a thriller, because it's a long way from thrilling. You can't even call it a thriller, because it's a long way from thrilling. Emma Watson and David Thewlis turn in good performances, and Ethan Hawke isn't bad either, but not even they can elevate this from being 100 minutes of pretty boring and unremarkable stuff. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Decent movie which keeps you guessing, even though at some point it is quite predictable who is the real villain there. Still, the suspense was ok, even though at some points story gets a bit weird and boring, but besides that the movie is decent Expand

Director Alejandro AmenĂ¡bar tries to recreate the style of the classic neo-noir thrillers as seen in the older days of Hollywood. While I appeciate the old fashioned approach to this story, it doesn't really work all that well. While he does build some good atmosphere at times and gets a very good Ethan Hawke performance, the whole film is a mess from the lack of character development, compelling dialogue and an often slow burn pace. Regression's ending: Possibly the worst of any movie of 2016 so far. Expand

A horror/thriller that's well made and well acted, but the pay off kind of flops. For most of the film it kept my attention with real psychological scares, I just really wish the finale twist didn't under mind the film itself. Sadly it's boring. Very sloooow like a 90's movie for TV only and with a "villain" that is easily spotted in the first minutes of the film. Not recommended not even if you're a fan of Emma.

Regression is basically a very long episode of Law and Order Criminal Intent with a hint of Criminal Minds craziness. I not saying that's bad, except the film is a little too much of the law and not enough of the craziness. I not saying that's bad, except the film is a little too much of the law and not enough of the craziness. Marketed as a horror/thriller, Regression is really neither of those, except for a few more disturbing but not horrible scenes. The film is a psychological crime movie, which is not bad, except the film is a bore overall and just too long. Seeing critics respond so negatively to the ending surprises me, considering the second half of the film is so much more interesting than the first half. Regression is VERY well acted and overall has a very interesting story. It's problem is that's its too long with nothing interesting to account for the extra time. It's by no means bad Film and I recommend it to lovers of this genre, just don't expect a thriller, but a more narrow and longer episode of criminal minds. Expand

I was gonna give Regression a 5, but after some more thought, I think a 4 is the best I can do. I feel like this picture had more potential than what we end up getting stiffed with in the final vehicle. It was just so long and dragged out. I feel like this picture had more potential than what we end up getting stiffed with in the final vehicle. It was just so long and dragged out. In the right hands, and with some tweaking of the script, I think this film would have fared better. And Emma Watson's so-called acting in Regression is SO bad, it's actually hilarious. That scene where she tried to cry and act all hysterical??... and not one single tear!?? Wow! How in the name of Ala does that woman STILL have a job in show business? Expand
