Hawke & McGregor both turn in nuanced, appealing performances with the rest of the cast matching that quality. Writer/director Rodrigo Garcia has created a film that's intelligent, while being offbeat and predictable at the same time. Ewan McGregor and Ethan Hawke's characters talk about their **** life the whole time, but their emotions are nowhere to be found. The rest of the characters are useless, and the "comedy" part of the film doesn't offer laughs at all. I wonder what Alfonso Cuarón — producer — saw in this story to make it happen. I appreciated a small movie like this. It's been a while since I've seen something this intimate and sans cgi or sensationalism. Just to guys dealing with real **** It was refreshing.
