Good script, great animation and excellent character development. One of the most enjoyable Pixar films. The film is unique in its own way and thats what makes it special. For those who like light-hearted films, watch Ratatouille.

Another brilliant Pixar movie. The characters are lovable and the animation is really top notch. The camera shots put most live action movies to shame and the realism of the food and settings is a wonder to behold. Brad Bird + Pixar = Genius.

I don't hold There's a lot riding on Ratatouille. It's the first Pixar film since Disney bought them for an amount that could make Bill Gates blush, and so it'll be the showcase of whether or not the deal was worth it. I don't hold the answer to whether or not it'll be a monstrous financial success, but what I do know is that if there is one soul working at Corporate Disney in which quality matters, Ratatouille delivers in spades. What separates Pixar from the rest of the mediocrity that fills the CGI-animation genre is that they will only tell a story they believe should be told. None of Pixar's films have ever been petty cash-ins, and with the subject matter of this one, there shouldn't be any debate that that philosophy remains intact here. The other fact that puts them head and shoulders above the rest is their ability to put heart into all of their characters. From a rat that wants to cook, to a poor garbage boy, to a critic who's (seemingly) sole purpose is to tear apart any and all who call themselves "chef", each character shows their own great...well...characteristics. The story begins with Remy the rat explaining his origins and how he has an unbelievable sense of smell, letting him pin-point the exact items that a food is made of and what can make any food even better. Naturally, he refuses to eat the normal garbage that his brethren feast upon, and who can blame him? When you can make foods that can bring anyone to their knees, why eat mush? Unfortunately, his tastes are not appreciated by his father, and since he's a rat, it's nigh impossible for to make up any dishes. It's not until he gets to his dream city of Paris that things get moving along. Remy manages to get himself to the restaurant of his idol, Gusteau, where, after witnessing the garbage boy Linguini butcher some soup, he is compelled (by Gusteau....sorta) to fix it. What he batches up is a soup that wins over a very prestigious food critic. However, he is caught in the act by Linguini, who, while hiding Remy, is caught by the chief chef with a ladle and is believed by him to have made the soup. So now, Remy is captured while Linguini is forced to cook up the recipe again. Before dispatching of Remy though, he realizes the rat can understand him, so they pair up and create foods that even Anton Ego (the "Grim Reaper") can't help but love. I think I've ruined enough of the plot for you guys Wink, so I'll talk about the technical aspect of the film. In a word, it is perfection. The rat Expand

It's a bit slow and the premise is a little too strange. But I still ended up having a good time at this one. It's definitely in need of editing (way too long for an animated movie) but Brad Bird is really a great writer/director and it shows with this movie. As was to be expected, it looks great and the voice acting is top-notch. I had fun watching it, but like I said...a little slow, a little strange, and even a bit predictable. Still a nice movie with likable characters. As a side-note, though, this is easily Pixar's least accessible film, as it's extremely dialogue-driven and I think its target audience of little kids will be extremely bored during it. It's definitely for an older audience. Expand

The movie shows tensions between family and career but resolves it by depicting that they can also go hand in hand. One of the big intentions of the filmmakers is to make the viewers losen up their preconceptions and narrow mindedness. Above all the Ratatouille aims to convince that rats are also beings that deserve to be treated with respect (even if they steal sometimes). Another obvious theme related to food is making the viewer in times of fast food mass production aware that there is more to food than just getting your tummy full with little time, little money, and little taste. Even though all the characters have diverese and highly developed personalities, and the protagonists are cute and the story fun, it is not until the final climax of the movie that there is a scene that truly grabs you at your emotional core and makes you really happy. Ratatouille is a very nice addition to collection of the Pixar's animated feature films. Go watch it! Expand

The film was not necessarily taken with great admiration upon its announcement, due to its content and of course its name. But what the film expertly does is refer to the name, and outline exactly the point its trying to make, it isn't suppose to be appealing, and not to judge a book by its cover.
The character of Remy is a rat, a rat with quite the heightened sense of smell, and with a taste for the finer things in life, namely the elegant cuisine of France, something which he is exceptionally good at creating.
But when the chef and restaurant he idolises fall on hard times, he happens across the very place and witnesses a new dishwasher accidentally ruining a soup, Remy steps up to fix the problem. The dishwasher, Linguini, sees Remy cooking and the two decide to work a solution for Remy to take, for the fact that the rest of the restaurant staff believe the dishwasher is the expert cook.
The film is a tale of pursuing what you want to do, and not to let anyone tell you any different. But the realism, while still ridiculous, is given a nice effect, as Remy and his human puppet realise he won't be accepted, therefore their carefully orchestrated means of cooking must be invisible to everyone else.
The film is perhaps the most insightful and viewer-inspired creation from Pixar, full of messages and situations that a real life individual will face in their ongoing existence, family, love, trial and error and of course...success.
As expected, the film is a visual delight, from the Paris skyline to the animation of Remy the rat working in the kitchen, each and every character, including the rats, have a distinct and unique look, setting them and their traits aside from the next person. A witty and hilarious script also benefits this excellent film, visual gags are in place across the film and the pacing of our characters is relevant to the story, especially working in a french restaurant.
Ratatouille will never cease to surprise and exceed, it answers many questions surrounding acceptance and hard work, all true while making the point of enjoying and escaping in its wonderful world, reminding us that we can get by little help from our friends.

With just light reliance on the occasional comedic element, Ratatouille is a wonderfully imaginative tale about a rat who dreams of becoming a chef. A story of both following your dreams to the fullest and that your surroundings and who you are do not define, but rather what you do with them, Ratatouille is entirely moving. It also manages to avoid being heavy handed throughout, which is definitely a plus. As a whole, Ratatouille is so brilliantly animated, it really wows you with the stuff they were able to pull off. They enhanced the classic encounters of vermin and restaurants by providing an enjoyable feature which honed the moral for being adventurous and different, as well as the balance of work and relations.

This original feature doesn't fall short with humour, although less than their average inclusion, the humour is by lack of a better phrase humorous.

I am glad to say that Pixar has once again (by adapting their own quote) ‘surprised me’, and I hope they continue to do so in the future.

Very good animation and story line. Creativity was visible throughout the film, although the addition of Gusteux's ghost was a bit corny. The ending was't the best, but at least the bad guy didn't win.

The best thing about the movie, is that it showcases Pixar's "mantra" that being story, story ...story. That along with having great characters/animation/dialog, which you just forget or never even consider are digital puppets.

The humor was great too, the gags situations character acting all contributing to making situations that "kids of all ages could "get".

There is on one level the entire story, of Remy and Linguini, but then there are 3 or 4 or more subplots and a number of dramatic scene changes which almost felt like separate chapters of the main story. That all contributed ..for me at least... to keeping the movie very interesting right to the end.

The film itself is of course wonderfully animated and characters are new and inventive. Remy, the protagonist, is a dreamer, who is extremely likable and is wonderful to see his growth. Side characters have a definite lasting impressions, as the love story of Collete and Linguini is a bit cliche, but is still a wonderful side plot to enjoy. The film may seem a bit quirky, but the quirkiness braced is spectacular and original. With a wonderful message that tells us that "great artists can come from anywhere", "Ratatouille" leaves a long and wonderful lasting impression that ranks to the Pixar standard of ingenuity. Expand

Wow.

Consigliato? Assolutamente.

We risk very little, yet enjoy a position over those who offer up their work and their selves to our judgment. We thrive on negative criticism, which is fun to write and to read. But the bitter truth we critics must face, is that in the grand scheme of things, the average piece of junk is probably more meaningful than our criticism designating it so. But there are times when a critic truly risks something, and that is in the discovery and defense of the *new*. The world is often unkind to new talent, new creations. The new needs friends. Last night, I experienced something new: an extraordinary meal from a singularly unexpected source. To say that both the meal and its maker have challenged my preconceptions about fine cooking is a gross understatement. They have rocked me to my core. In the past, I have made no secret of my disdain for Chef Gusteau's famous motto, "Anyone can cook." But I realize, only now do I truly understand what he meant. Not everyone can become a great artist; but a great artist *can* come from *anywhere*. It is difficult to imagine more humble origins than those of the genius now cooking at Gusteau's, who is, in this critic's opinion, nothing less than the finest chef in France. I will be returning to Gusteau's soon, hungry for more."- This quote is so powerful even today. that is all. Expand

Ratatouille is wonderful story about food, love and possibilities. The main character is Remy. He is a resident of Paris who has quite a sophisticated palate.  He would love to become a chef. The only problem is, Remy is a rat. Is his dream not destined to come true? This is a film about a rat who becomes a chef in Paris. But it's so much more than that. It's about what a great artist can be, where a great artist can come from, it's about food and how to savour it.
That movie is the best creation from Pixar. Animation, musical accompaniment and visual - everything looks great. I am ready to review this masterpiece forever!

The film follows the story of Remy, a rat with a passion for cooking, who dreams of becoming a chef in a top Parisian restaurant. The characters are well-developed, and the voice acting is top-notch, with Patton Oswalt delivering a standout performance as Remy.

The film's visuals are stunning, with every detail in the animation capturing the beauty and charm of Paris. The food, in particular, is gorgeously rendered, and the scenes in the kitchen are a feast for the eyes. The film's score, composed by Michael Giacchino, perfectly complements the visuals, creating a whimsical and magical atmosphere.

What makes Ratatouille truly special is its universal message about following your dreams, regardless of what others may say or think. The film inspires and uplifts its viewers, leaving them feeling both entertained and deeply moved. Overall, Ratatouille is a true masterpiece and a must-see for anyone who appreciates great storytelling and animation. A perfect 10/10.
