Rambo (2008) reminds me of the most memorable parts of First Blood, and the most entertaining parts of its sequels.

I'll tell you where he is: In the forests of Burma kicking butt and being a raw savage as he always is! This film is excitingly adventurous and violent, but does it offer more of a challenge for tough-as-nails John Rambo? I don't know... But what I do know is that the extraction squad in this film was relentless and stealthy. Talk about a tough job. Saving a few missionaries within an army of Burmese soldiers who are witlessly dangerous and scary isn't an easy assignment. Nevertheless, the warriors and heroes in this film fought like heck to make it out alive and made this film an action-packed, 90 minute banger. Two thumbs up. Expand

Sure the story isn't too bad but we all watch these movies to see Stallone kick some ass and he delivers on it. All the kills in this movie are great because of how evil they made everyone from killing people in cold blood and killing their children. Finally Rambo is not alone killing everyone, but in a team and therefore more realistic. Stallone plays his character perfectly and interesting. The setting is good, the atmosphere and music are also well done. And the movie is not so politically correct like the 2 before, there are even some nice political incorrect dialogues.

There are only little problems: the story could be more detailed, especially some explanations for some behaviours are missing or too superfically written. In addition the movie could be a little bit longer.

After the third part, which I personally like, but it was not so well received by other people, it is understandable that they simply said that it would like to wait a while, invent something and create some solid seed that people will like. So was it worth waiting for those long years for the new film Ramba? Well, hard to say. As people's reviews say, yes. The film was a success and yes, I liked it too, but not so much that I would have liked it during the waiting time. It's even the weakest part of the series in my opinion, but that's my opinion. The film works great in one thing and that is that it's simply not as frantic as the previous ones. It didn't take long in the previous films and we immediately got a proper event, which we somehow managed to devour. Here we will wait for some time before one starts and thus create space for a deeper story. To put it bluntly, or at least I don't think the story is anything extra, but I'm glad that the film took its time to salt all the action, but it has one catch, at least in my eyes. The point is, it will end quickly. Yes, it means that the film runs away quickly and is not boring, which is good, but I mean that you are just waiting for some event here and it will happen. That's right and it's delicious. But as soon as it happens, it is soon over. I'm not saying it wasn't enough. Not that. The event was great, but it just started to go and it ended. Otherwise, after a long wait, we got a good film, which I recommend especially to lovers of the event. Those who expect a good story may be disappointed. This is mainly the event, which is a long-standing classic in the Rambo series. For me, a good film that I recommend. Expand

This is the second best Rambo movie. A movie that could go wrong, but Stallone looked deeper into just making another bloody action movie in the vein of the previous two from many years back.
The story is very simple, Rambo being talked into bringing a handful christian missionaries deep into conflicted Burma, manages to do so, but all go so horribly wrong for the group of missionaries. Rambo gets called into another trip of boating up a group of trained soldiers with a mission to try to free them. Rambo, on the other side of the river decides to track behind them because his instinct tells him it will go wrong. The rest is not hard to figure out.
So what make this movie so good if the story is so linear.
The answer is the brutal honesty of it. Stallone, did not just wanted to make a action movie, rather, he wanted to bring a political message to show how the long standing conflict in Burma has resulted in years of genocide.
With this road taken, there was no option to show how bloody and brutal war can be. And it resulted into a peak PG18 movie where Stallone are not sugarcoating anything about the Burmese military junta savage methods.

The movie paces very well along. and ends into some of the best scenes in war action movies. A solid return of the Rambo formula with a message more clear than ever. Back into the jungle where John Rambo belongs.

Rambo is not a perfect film, but its reviews truly do not belay its quality. Some of the major outlets got the film, but we were just entering the PC phase that has now turned itself over and inside out.

This film is really brutal, and it will turn off some people. That doesn't mean that it's not realistic in places. The dialogue is mostly good with some funny one liners. There are a few questionable sequences, but you can only ask so much out of an action film. It's not better than the first, but it is right up there, and entirely more visceral. It blows most action films out of the water, which is hilarious since a lot of top critics you see that gave negative reviews for this film would give some of the worst Bond films and Comic Book films positive scores. I get that Rambo is not for the faint of heart, but it has a decent story with likeable characters for the most part. It is basically a kind of Predator film in that way, except the monster is a ruthless dictator.

At any rate it also has some beautiful shots of Burma, and the overall quality of the film is sharp and colorful. The night sequences are well done, and altogether there are only a few action films that are better than this one in the last decade. Period.

Rambo tries to re-integrate into society, the challenge that's face by many American veterans, and Stallone was brilliant as Rambo.

After the success of the first film, it spins bad to mediocre sequels and Rambo is one of them. The war may be fictionalized but at least make it believable like First Blood. There is no new ideas in Rambo, just more mindless violence. A film that values money over imagination, fan boys just eat it up without even realizing that Rambo is not as deep as First Blood. Therefore, it's not as good.

More violence, killing (236 guys) and gore doesn't make it good or better. The final action sequence is just stupid, it's just Rambo on a machine gun shooting down guys for about 10 minutes. Anyone could have come up with that! This is not the worst Rambo film, Rambo III is, but it does suck. Not seen Rambo: First Blood Part II but who cares, it's not highly cerebral.

Excellent film....Yes its gory, and yes there are scenes where children get killed...But these things happen over there. That was what Stallone tried to get across, the horrifying things that happen that the general world doesnt know about. And as for Rambo not having much to say, he never did in any of his films. In First Blood (the original), Rambo was a quiet person who just wanted to be left alone until he was pushed too far by the local law enforcement. He's the same in this, just wants his quiet life until he is again forced into fighting to save peoples lives. Excellent film, blood thirsty but what do people think real warfare is, a slap round the face. My girlfriend loved it, she hates violent films but understood what the film was trying to get across. In this case no. This film really should be lauded for bringing the atrocities in Myanmar/Burma to the general populace... but by veiling it under the name of this tired action franchise it turns it into a 'boys film' when what it really should do is be used as a tool to get something done about the crisis. It is one of those films where the graphic nature MAY, just about, justified. However, this does not detract from the fact that Sylvester Stalonne's acting and directing abilities are too wooden for words. Better than Rambos II and III. Expand

I did go into this thinking Stallone may have a hard time pulling Rambo off at his age, but the story and play fit pretty good with his life timeline as Rambo. Stallone is still in pretty good shape for his age. The acting was somewhat slow at times but bearable. I must admit that I was absolutely awed by the Graphic brutality that Stallone was obviously trying to portray of the Burmese Army. I believe this was Stallone's way of showing the world the Burmese situation. This film is as Much a political cry for the Burmese people as it was showing Evil getting it's just due in the end. Having said all that I was pleasantly surprised by this Movies message and stunned at the same time that humans can be that brutal and evil to one another. It is a different type of Rambo, but a good one in my mind. Expand
