While the action scenes are certainly flashy, the film is filled to the brim with lethargic performances, drab dialogue, and a plot line that's painfully inconsistent and short on rationality.

it was not a terrible film and it has the potential to be great. all it needs is a stronger plot more effort in acting some more action-packed action sequences and a hint of direction in the film, it could ne a terrific movie.

Watchable but basically just a rip off of The 4400 and Heroes with a much larger budget, bigger names and far less imagination and integrity. Worth watching if you have nothing better to do.

Between flat and unlikable characters to dull action, Push gets just about everything wrong. It's campy, it's silly, and painfully un-watchable. Push is much more confusing than it needs to be. In the end, it's just about a group of people trying to get a case before the "bad guys" get it. Put less simply, it's about people with a range of psychic abilities who are in a race against The Division (a powerful government that "rules" these superior beings) to find a case that contains a "billion dollar secret." The plot makes much less sense on film. In specific, the plot follows a man named Nick (Chris Evans), who is just out of his teen years, and still doesn't really have a good grip on his ability (levitation). He meets a girl named Cassie (Dakota Fanning) who convinces him (sort of) to join her on a quest to find the case. Cassie herself is a "watcher," someone who can see into the future. She draws what she sees, and based on what she sees, Cassie and Nick may not survive this adventure. As I mentioned previously, the plot is much more complicated on film. None of the abilities in Push are very cool, and none are very original. We get people who can levitate, people who can see into the future, people who can control your mind, etc. These are all things we've seen before. Been there, done that. The one new ability that Push has made is....screaming. Yes, believe it or not, Push's only innovative ability is the ability to scream. Granted, it's a scream that can destroy structures, people, etc., but in the end, it's just some creepy Asian guy screaming like a maniac. It's stupid and campy. And as if that wasn't bad enough, there are THREE villains with this ability. Push also doesn't know what kind of a movie it wants to be. Does it want to be a light, comedic action flick? A hard, heavy, end of the world film? Maybe an intelligent heist film? Push, unsuccessfully, attempts to do all three. As if I have to say it; this really doesn't work. The acting, though not awful, never gets much better than mediocre. And early on, the acting even seems a little clunky. As if Push isn't already bad off, it also suffers from an overwhelming number of obvious plot holes. And there is little characters development, if any. Most of the characters don't even have a definitive personality. The action scenes are usually brief, with no actual fights occurring. Just someone getting beat up, with a victor we can already predict. There are few exceptions. During the end, we get a long, action filled climax, but it's more tedious than exciting. And beware, the ending is a major cop-out. The one positive thing I can say about Push (aside from it's vaguely unique premise), is it's skilled editing. It shows snippets of future events than goes back to the past. The editing is just very well done, I'll give it that. Push is campy, tedious, cheesy, confusing, and stupid. It tries to be three different films at once, and character development is omitted entirely. Plot holes abound, action scenes are dull. Outside of camp value, Push has few redeeming qualities. Expand

"Push" has watchers, movers, pushers, but alas, no scanners. Cassie(Dakota Fanning) is a watcher; she spends most of her time drawing a future that she and Nick(Chris Evans) are trying to change. When Kira(Camilla Belle) joins their makeshift family, the future changes, for the worse. For awhile, the local color offered by the eastern setting lends "Push" an atmosphere that offsets the banality of the story's premise. Two factions, an American outfit and a Chinese outfit, are fighting over a suitcase that contains a psychic steroid that will boost a pusher's ability. Too bad Cassie, nor her Chinese counterpart with daddy issues, can't write. Fanning, who at thirteen, is a child actor in transition, just as Jodie Foster was when she appeared in Martin Scorsese's "Taxi Driver", around the same age. In "Push", the tweener gets to be a taxi rider, as she tries her best to ground this obtuse sci-fi/action film with the same brio she brings to every role; this time, as an artist who plies her gift like an artisan. Her aesthetics is functionality. What modest pleasures that the Hong Kong locales offer in ways of diversion, are soon negated by Nick's nonsensical plan to thwart the watcher with daddy issues. He confuses Pop Girl(Lu Lu), and he confuses the audience. The plan is diffuse, not clever nor intricate, and it kills the story's momentum. "Push" turns into a game of follow the luggage. Expand

The special effects/special abilities of the characters are used sparingly, and some of the best "powered" scenes are ones that use no special effects of all--resulting in a subtlety severely lacking in larger budget movies like X2. That said, there are plenty of effects-heavy scenes to satisfy the viewer craving eye-candy. But these scenes still juxtapose the iridescent shimmer of a telekinetic shield with the garbage and detritus of a Hong Kong construction site, creating an interplay of science fiction elements with the grungy reality. Carefully read through the critics' reviews on this movie regarding the plot. Among the negative reviewers, you'll find two camps--ones that found the plot "too convoluted" and ones that found that it "didn't make sense." Feel free to read that as "don't like to think while watching movies" and "didn't bother thinking while watching." The plot is intense, and as much of a puzzle for the viewer to solve as it is a life or death race for the characters to survive. The last fourth of the movie where the protagonist lays out his plan has an almost Ocean's Eleven feel to it, occluding the true nature of his plans from his teammates and the audience, forcing the viewer to attempt to guess at his final solution even as the plot unfolds. Remember, they are paid to give their opinion and most of them probably didn't want to see Push and dislike this entire genre. That said, Push was hella rad. Setting the whole thing in Hong Kong was a genius stroke that allowed for a more urgent and almost claustrophobic feel, which is in line with the plight of the central characters. The plot is clearly deravitive of X2 or Volume 4/Fugitives of Heroes, but that's what makes this movie so great. We all want (a) realistic bad guy(s) who is/are really BAD and good guys who are in serious peril and may or may not survive and Push delivers on this premise. If you pay attention and understand what each of the character's powers are and how they can be manifested in different situations, the third act will be anything but confusing, right down the mult-interpretive ending. Since the screen fades to black, what actually does happen in that final scene? Hopefully this will kill at the box office and franchise will be born. Expand

There are some parts that are not explained well even for the lore of the movie (ex. building shade) but overall it is a cool display of superpowers and plot. The end blew me away with its planning. Harsh critics will hate it and if you aren't willing to let the new world that has been dreamed up envelope you then much of the charm will simply be lost. Expand

Push may not be for everyone with it's geeky government super power conspiracy plot, but if you somehow actually managed to enjoy Jumper, or you are like me and wanted to see it done better, this is a good choice.

I love this movie. The plotline is interesting, the powers are cool, the characters are well developed, The actors did a great job, it was fast paced and action packed. What more can you ask of a sci-fi thriller?

Like movies as "Cloud Atlas" and "Watchmen" it has a complicated storyline and if you don't want to put the attention and energy in to figure out how it sticks together it will not make much sense. However if you do really give it a chance it is a quite special little movie. It feels like Michael Mann meets Philip K.Dick. The movie simply is a visual feast. There is no shot that isn't composed to perfection using the Hong Kong backdrop as a character in the movie. If you love science fiction, then this one should be in your collection, because it's one of those special movies you'll pull out and watch again every once in a while. Or at least I do. Expand

Excellent cast (in their best moments)do an ok job here. High points for me include some occasional and interesting 'using ma powers' set pieces. Felt a lot like a heroes double episode on a higher budget. Pacing drags things down at times and the cinematography feels unambitious in spite of the great location. Entertaining stuff nonetheless! It is so many super-powered beings in this movie that if you blink you will miss everything. It's very action packed with pretty good special effects.

It's easily the worst comic book movie he has ever been in. It is such a boring movie that pretty much just goes nowhere and has uninteresting characters. The plot is very confusing. Not much goes on in this film. I first watched it on SyFy a few weeks ago and it was a total waste of an hour and fortyish minutes of my life I'll never get back. I don't know why some people say this film is underrated, it's just plain terrible and got the reception it deserved from most film critics. Nothing about this film is underrated. I fell asleep during the second act cause the film was just so, so, so boring. The last scene in Push was very, very, very anti-climatic. Push is a stupid, slow-paced, terrible, boring, confusing, and sleep-inducing snooze-fest that tries to be cool but just ends up being lame. Expand

It's not awful but it is very much flawed. I like the premise of countries and 3 letter agencies using people with extraordinary abilities to do their bidding, but instead of watching a movie based on that, we got a movie about some rouge superhumans tracking down a suitcase. For the most part the plot makes sense, but near the end it falls apart. It could have been a disaster, and it could have been really good, but it falls into the middle of the road. Expand
