This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Pulp Fiction is one of those movies I liked more in retrospect than at the time. I think Tarantino's genius does play a part in this film, and the product is substantial; but Reservoir Dogs is better.

All the characters use witty, random dialogue about European hamburgers and the sexual implications of foot massages, but to what avail? I mean, as fun as it is to hear and watch, I just found that the whole movie lacked something. Maybe a little bit more editing would've done the trick; maybe it was something else. I can't quite put my finger on it.

Don't get me wrong. I think this is a classic Tarantino movie. I enjoyed Samuel L. Jackson's quotable lines, as well as a couple of outstanding scenes. (The OD, the Big Date, the scene where Harvey Keitel gets rid of the body, etc.) As a whole, the movie does work. But some minor details would make it even better.

The storyline of Bruce Willis and Ving Rhames was a little much. (Did Ving *really* have to get raped?) I know Tarantino just wanted to add some shock value to his film, but even for a person who doesn't mind that kind of thing in movies I found it a little extreme.

Oh, and one more thing: I learned that "zapateria" means "shoe store" in Spanish, courtesy of Butch.

This is a healthy, productive and scandalous magazine that treats its audience with a smart flirty language.

Pulp Fiction

Tarantino's career defining project is raw and honest. And maybe that's why it holds a place in one of those rare milestones that can and does hold up against time. But writer-director Quentin Tarantino has honed his thrills for the romance of conversation in a much more absorbing humoriste language than his previous case. And this is what's been updated and stayed with him over the years. Good conventional themes that spirals out into unexpected quirky crime scenes instead of the other way around. And those jokes aren't just some filling. It is their to nourish human behavior. The telltales threads these various incidents into one film where either it grows itself into a character or pitches itself as their philosophy or introduction.

He took a neo-noir genre and smashed it on screen with the ultimate question. Question being, What's the morbid fascination over the outlaws of the society residing between common people persisting to enact like one and engage in one? Now you see what Tarantino has done with his masterpiece. He took two extreme ends of a situation and blends it in, evolutionizing a pulp treat whose purity is unfiltered and is highly valuable in the market. Selling that product officially are two hitmen Samuel L. Jackson and John Travolta.

With his over-the-top confidence and sassy dominating persona on screen, Jackson might be giving his life's best work but personally I put my chips on Travolta's groovy twist. I grew up watching Saturday Night Live and Greece, his understated situational physical comic timing beams me back into a 4 year old kid; Warmer! Warmer! DISCO! And some of his best moments in Pulp Fiction is with Uma Thurman whose dance under the influence of Neil Diamond's Girl You'll Be A Woman Soon is an apt description of this vanity kingdom.

Personally, I enjoyed Reservoir Dogs much more. Of course I can't say this is a bad movie, for that would be unfair; but it is not, in my opinion, a masterpiece. Tarantino has made himself a name because his movies are different and challenge our ideas of 'normality', but I don't see any greatness' in Pulp Fiction. I didn't find it engaging or profound; I didn't feel it was particularly fun or witty either. I guess most people either like this film or hate it. I am ambivalent about it. I think because of its cinematography, the good performances, and its peculiarity it deserves a 7. To me, giving it more than that is bestowing this movie with a nature and trascendence it doesn't have. However, I am okey if you disagree with me and I can see why. Expand

It is overly reliant on the one trick of mixing up the order of the scenes so one does not fully understand what is happening until it is brought together in the end. It's an episodic and eccentric film about a number of different men who somehow end up working for this man with a bandade on his head. Either that, or he's trying to kill them. It's funny at times and just plain stylish at others. I'll admit the dialogue is good. Despite all this, it's just so eccentric sometimes that I begin to not like it as much. Also, there are some just plain boring scenes where characters talk about nothig of importance. I suppose this is part of the appeal, with its stylistic dialogue and all, but I was bored. To wrap this up, there's no doubt I like the movie but I'm afraid I can't say that I love it. Expand

At first I wasn't sure I could see a lot of substance between the various sub plots but by the end, I admit it did come together reasonably well. The key moments, to me, were Uma Thurman dancing with Travolta in the diner/bar and Jules talking about his dislike for eating anything he regards as dirty (never mind the irony/hypocracy that he kills people for a living). There is some dark comedy, although it didn't entirely appeal to me but I can understand why other people really like it. It was interesting to see the director in such a long-ish scene towards the end - usually, from the films I've seen anyway, when the film director or writer (Stan Lee etc.) appears in their film, as a cameo of sorts, it tends to be a pretty brief and often dialogue free occurence but not this time, although I can't say I liked the strongly racist language used but generally this is a good film of its sort I suppose. I liked the scene with Tim Roth's character, Pumpkin, in his self inflicted scenario (which we see briefly at the start) being played out towards the end.

I also remembered that there was a large movie poster of this film up in the classroom I used to study media studies in, in the late 90s, so that was a slight flashback. Pulp Fiction was on one wall and Assassins with Stallone and Banderas was on the other one I think - oh and 'Peter's Friends' on another wall I think but I haven't seen that film yet(!).

If it sounds of interest to you then yes, I'd recommend it, although if your either reasonably squeamish and/or don't like hard drug use or sexual violence hinted at (although not explicitly shown, or not in the film version I saw anyway), then this would be best avoided I suppose.

Maybe it was non-linear? in which, I can appreciate that they went against the grain with this, but both me and my buddy were watching this film thinking. When the hell is this movie starting?

It was incredibly slow, things didn't make sense, i felt like the overdose scene and the boxer scene didn't add too much to the over arching story.

I did like the dialogue though, i felt like that was the strongest part of this movie

My list of people I geniuenly think are good actors is very small. I don't have a long list of bad actors per se but it takes a lot for me to see a performance in either light. Pulp Fiction added two to the list: Samuel L. Jackson and Amanda Plummer. Both of these actors knocked it out of the park and made themselves noticed. I thought I would give the movie 7/10 for the acting alone but then when I compiled my thoughts, I realized just how negative it gets. First off, the swearing dialogue, I can deal with foul language, but it did not flow. It got choppy and it was like Tarantino had a quota to meet, so he just kept sticking them in there. Uma Thurman's character was ridiculous as was that whole random scene in the restaurant. The ending is beautiful don't get me wrong but the nonlinear set up really did not make sense at certain points nor when I looked it up did I think the chronological ending needed to happen. The leather person thing also made no sense. This was just like the director had a bunch of ideas, put it in a blender and spit it out and yet it is supposedly a masterpiece? Again, the only thing saving this score was the two masterful performances. It's a shame Amanda Plummer doesn't really have anything else to her name. Expand

The movie is perfect in every way, except the plot. Despite the movie's issue only covering one field, PF just lost four points out of 10 because of filler that lasted for an hour. That filler constitutes of a scenario and a hangout. The scenario being Butch's part and the hangout, where the chick has zero involvement with the plot (if it has any). My father once asked me what Pulp Fiction is about and even I can't answer. Simply told it was an action/thriller starring Travolta and Willis.

In short, the plot is not present, despite the unique "chronologic" system, which is a really good move. If this movie has a proper plot, I would've given it a 10.

It was so boring, barely any plot development. It is considered a good movie probably only because the sequence of events was reorganized. Another overrated movie by Quentin Tarantino (much like Kill Bill which also sucked @ss). Expand

So a few hours ago I visited his "Masterpiece" as labelled by the audience , The one and only "PULP FICTION" . Even as a huge fan of his I cannot hold back but criticize that this movie was huge disappointment for me . It would've been a great movie if it was directed by some other guy but the bar has been set up too high by Quentin and I personally feel he's not even close to it . Though the movie starts brilliantly and almost drags you in their world ( That adrenaline scene . Wow!!!!)
But the second half is where I feel I was watching something else and it kind of felt dragged , it's not to say that it's the actor's fault , no not at all!! . They have given there very best ( especially John Travolta) but I feel the second half is not upto the mark . One might criticize that character development in the movie is what's so great about this movie and I believe it's true , but to my taste I feel there is not enough of plot development unlike Tarantino's other movies . All and all it's a good movie and a one time watch for me

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. There is nothing authentic or special in this movie. It is highly overrated!
There is no aristotellic stracture, l mean there is no "beginning - middle - ending", it is a mess. Also, all the characters of this non-sense movie are completely annoying, the "plot" is slow and boring and the dialogue is dull. Where is the suspense, the action, the emotions? I used to like some Tarantino's films, such as Kill Bill, Inglourious Basterds and Django Unchained, but this one... l just don't get it. Is this supposed to be "genius"? What am l missing here? I think this movie is so weak, flat and overall, overrated. I would definately say the same things about "Once Upon A Time In Hollywood". I don't understand why people like this stuff so much. I can't take these movies seriously. Pulp Fiction is no "classic" at all. The cast is good and it is fun at times but nothing special to admire or feel impressed.. it looks more like a gangster comedy flick. Much ado about nothing.

some people are impressed that it's 3 stories together REALLY is that impressive
how about the movie babel why it's not a critically acclaimed movie like this ?
the script is so corny that you can hear it from people while street walking
the directing OK what's great about it did you see the end of the movie and how the scenes connected together oh yes this called lack of imagination
the performances is so annoying that it makes you question those actors resumes especially Samuel L. Jackson
the homosexual rape is the weirdest thing i ever seen in a Hollywood movie and that's not even the worst part it doesn't add a thing to the story.
the characters are ridiculous and i can go on and on but there is no point
i guess some people get tricked into thinking that the movie is good
because it's a Quentin Tarantino movie without actually watching the movie.

The scene with Christopher Walken was supposed to be a highlight of the comedy. He stuck a watch up his butt. Get it? Yeah, real masterful humor. No second grader could come up with that.
