Low budget with big script holes. “Secret agency” with their “androids” are as cheap as dad from Transformers movie.

Proximity begins as an interesting low-budget sci-fi movie. Then the script begins to overlook the world around it and its rules. Then the script begins to overlook the world around it and its rules. After that, a complete crack begins with theft and struggle with whom it is not clear and why. And looking at it is already painful. Another person shot this, and for some reason I am ashamed of the viewer. The end of the film is so generally one of the dumbest scenes. Utter disappointment. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Well... the CG is pretty good. That's to be expected with Eric Demeusy's long list of Hollywood VFX work, Howerver, it appears that that's where the entire movie's budget went. Everything else about this movie is laughably bad. The acting and script are stilted and unconvincing. The tone and pacing are all over the place which kills any tension the movie tries to build. The vocal music choices are bizarre and contribute to the tone problem. The world and characters are never fleshed out or explained in any meaningful way. The movie instead uses its 2 hour runtime to linger on a bunch of drawn out scenes that contribute almost nothing to the plot, making it feel extremely bland. The main evil robot enemies have the classic robot aim problem of missing every shot they take. To cap it all off, ~5 minutes before the end it's revealed that the aliens came to earth to look for Jesus (I was laughing uncontrollably at that point, at least this explained some of the Christian soft pop-rock music choices). The movie then abruptly ends with a "we fell in love, the bad guy got fired, and that's my unbelievable experience" TLC/Halmark/Lifetime feel good monologue. TL;DR Proximity reveals itself to be a laughably bad Christian movie, with all of that genre's usual tropes, masquerading itself as a CG filled Hollywood sci-fi blockbuster and adding in many of that genre's worst tropes too. This makes for a simultaneously very weird and very boring experience. Expand

Proximity is a sympathetic teen flick fiction movie. The story is good until 2/3 of the movie. Then you fall into androids, religious motive and super heroes kind of powers. The FX are really good for such a small budget movie. The soundtrackProximity is a sympathetic teen flick fiction movie. The story is good until 2/3 of the movie. Then you fall into androids, religious motive and super heroes kind of powers. The FX are really good for such a small budget movie. The soundtrack is kind of teen related audience and sometimes distracting. The acting is unequal. I am unsure about the casting, some are pretty good, some barely on the line. The ending was a mix bag. I really hated the religious aspect of it, but I like the other stuff. I don't think the ending is any justification for Alien's presence. It's just too stupid to swallow for any intelligent audience. I give it 52% because some actors were pretty good in it. The ending can be deceiving but the rest of the movie is acceptable. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The first half of this movie was quite good. If it stayed on that kind of quality trajectory it would have been a 7 or 7.5 for me. Then things turned and not in a good way. It all went bad at the moment they introduced the gov agency (men in black) to capture Isaac. It's weird that it seemed like the acting and story took a nose dive, I'm in shock at how bad it got. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Decent enough B-movie Sci-Fi fare. Not completely a spoiler, but Jesus H. Christ there was a moment there that really took me out of the picture. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Aliens coming to earth looking for Jesus? Cool idea, poor execution. One solid twist surrounded by half assed cliches and awful writing. The sound track is unbelievably bad too. Idk how some of those songs made it into a movie. Expand
