This indie sci-fi film feels like Annihilation. Not because they are similar in some way in theme or narrative but in environment.
I know it sounds strange but that's the impression it gave me.

I know it sounds strange but that's the impression it gave me.

It has problems with the rhythm, and the story is not the most interesting, but it's ambitious, even being attentive to its budgetary limitations and that same ambition makes it in my opinion an adventure more satisfying than I expected in the first instance.

Unfortunately the story is as weak as the props, and the acting of the rest of the cast. The directing relies entirely on scenery to convey the sense of the alien world, and that amounts to nothing more than a CG overlay of spores over a mundane forest. The entire concept of the "prospecting" is as repulsive as everyone carrying it out. The world building is fine, but without a story to give it meaning, just tropes, this space western was pretty boring. I am sure this was done with a shoe-string budget, but just means it had to work with what it had, just as previous films (Blair Witch) have done. Prospect is fine if you have time to waste, but little else. Expand

Low budget space western despite its talented cast fails to innovate in either the western or sci-fi genres but it's quite charming in places even if a bit average as a whole.

Even though it has a promising start, I couldn’t get more then 20 minutes in every time I tried to watch it. It never grabbed me. There was a strange combination of poor filming, lackluster dialogue and what felt like a cast that took it all too seriously even on a set where the production value would have been called “cheap” by student film standards today. I also couldn’t shake the feeling that they were trying to go for a “Firefly” vibe with the parlance of the rustic old west set against visuals for a sci-fi story. With all this said, I still couldn’t recommend either way to watch it or not. If you are into science fiction then I would recommend giving it a shot. Just go in knowing that it moves slow and makes some some dark turns. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I get what the film's going for here (a western prospecting film mixed with sci-fi, hell even the guys dialogue is like an old prospector). But with a run time of 90 minutes it could have been condensed to 30-45 as that is how little goes on. Boiled down to girl+dad land on planet to mine stuff. Meet two people, kill one, the other kills her dad. She then, out of nowhere teams up with her dad's killer. Then find the mercenaries at the dig site, realise they can't havest the stuff, kill the mercenaries and leave. The only thing that saves the film is the strong visuals. Expand
