I'm not too proud to say PRIDE made me cry.

For all its emotional manipulation, PRIDE tells a good story about good people and you should see it. It's a positive experience from beginning to end.

Joe (MacKay) is a young student, and being the surrogate for audience, he firstly engages in the 1984 London gay parade with wide-eyed novelty and closeted reluctance, and half-heartedly he becomes a founding member of new-coined LGSM group, lead by an avid 24-year-old activist Mark (Schnetzer). The film starts its narrative quite flamboyantly in the gay parade and quickly steers onto the thorny issue, to raise money for the UK miners who are under the same predicament where LGBT minority is, the mineworkers’ union starts a strike would last for more than one year.

Dramatic, suspenseful and emotional. That’s Pride.

It’s extremely fun to see how the LGBT rights movement and the rights we take for granted today began. Pride is in fact one of the best movies I have seen that’s based on a true story, and the movie does indeed illustrate how hard it can be to be other than “normal”, especially in the 80s. But also what people close, and loved ones thinks about it. One of the main actors; Joe is excellent. We see him develop during the whole movie and he keeps getting more and more self-confidence. He also gets a bigger and a more important role in the movie. That’s wonderful. I actually felt really close to Joe, just the look in his eyes felt me closer to him than any of the other characters. The actors in Pride are superb, especially George MacKay, Imelda Staunton and Bill Nighy.

There are surprisingly no flaws in this movie, and it really is one of the best movies that are based on a true story. It’s also very underrated!

Pride gets a 7.5.

Above all its very enjoyable. Matthew Warchus, the director, brings together the film and makes it something that can't be easily forgotten; which is interesting considering Warchus only has one other directing nod for his, not so beloved, late 90s film, Simpatico. The film is funny but yet still passionate in its telling of the story of the coming together of the Gay and Lesbian community and the Miners during the mid 80s in the UK. The movie includes some incredible performances by the entire cast including amazing performances by George Mackay and Imelda Staunton. Pride is uplifting and entertaining and I would recommend it for all. Expand

Hefina: [laughing while holding a **** in one hand and a gay magazine in the other] "Jesus God that takes me back!"

Pride takes place in the summer of 1984, the UK National Union of Mineworkers began a lengthy strike. During this trying period, they are given an unexpected boost from gay and lesbian activists as well.

"Uplifting, inspiring and heart hitting". - From all the critics reviews. All those Quotes you see there is all from the critic who reviewed this picture, and I can see what there saying but I'm sorry but "Inspiring and heart hitting", those are so cliche for critics to say and to be honest I didn't really feet inspired or over the moon with this movie, now don't get me wrong I thought this was a good movie, it really is, but I don't think it's flawless as critic's are making it out to be. It's a simply movie about Pride and respect and I like those kind of films, like the 2008 film staring Sean Penn (Milk) The film heart is in the right place and I got to say that this movie get's it's message across without shoving it into your face like other movies that fail to do that so well done Pride.

The performance from everyone was pretty good, nobody did a crap performance, there where all good. The story in this is really interesting and I always like those kind of true stories movies where afterwards I can look up to see the real person and read more about them, I always look forward to that. The directing and the writing was all good.

Now for Flaws and they's only some like: I didn't really get that fist in the high feeling that most people said I will get, yeah the movie left me feeling good inside but to be honest I didn't really feel that [Hands in the air] "YEAH! that's so good stuff", feeling.

I'm glad the movie Pride was made. I may not felt super inspirited after the movie but doesn't mean you will. I say go watch this movie, it's well done.

It's a feel-good film that is genuinely heartwarming and tender but without cloyingly sentimentality. It's an excellent showcase of how friendship, understanding, empathy and solidarity between the unlikeliest of allies can accomplish great things, in the face of seemingly insurmountable odds. To boot, it's a genuinely funny film and boasts a phenomenal ensemble: Imelda Staunton, Bill Nighy, Andrew Scott (especially Andrew Scott), Jessica Gunning and Dominic West are standout performers in what stands as one of the finest casts of any film in recent memory. Its pop culture touches, particularly the soundtrack, help to create a wonderful sense of time and place. Ultimately, Pride is not to be missed. Its deft mix of humour and drama allow it to handle its subject matter in a way that is neither didactic nor heavy-handed, but never undercuts its pathos, triumphant spirit and importance as its themes - such as LGBT oppression, mistreatment of the working class - are still painstakingly relevant to modern times, particularly in Britain. Amidst one of the most peculiar real-life stories to come out of Great Britain, Pride takes a very unique look at gay & lesbian culture in the 1980s. You're sure to be inspired--and the music ain't bad either.

“Pride” is the very close to perfect movie that it seems only the English know how to make. It pulls at your heart strings, makes you smile and laugh, then ends making you want to cheer!

The movie is based on a true story about a group of Lesbians and Gays from London who go to Llandello, Wales, after collecting money to help the striking miners, showing solidarity between two groups who are marginalized, oppressed and shunned, especially by the government.

The film opens with the Gay Pride March in 1984 and ends with the Gay Pride March in 1985. In between we see the interaction between the Gays and miners, some of the latter accepting the former while some are against them. There is really only one villain as through various actions, conversations and incidents most come to accept each other.

Most of the characters are clichés from the boy on the verge of coming out to the man in the village who has lived his life in the closet but the actors make you forget what you know is going to happen. Each actor gets a ‘star’ turn and though some have bigger roles, such as Bill Nighy, Imelda Staunton, Ben Schnetzer, Paddy Consindine, Andrew Scott, Dominic West and George MacKay than others all earn a well deserved acknowledgement so be sure to stay for the credits.

It is almost a perfect movie but the director, Matthew Warchus, and the screenwriter, Stephen Beresford, try to cover too many characters and don’t have, or take the time, to see them through while original music by Christopher Nightingale at times overcomes the scenes.

All in all this is definitely a movie to see and, on a personal note, I want to take the next flight to Llandello, Carmartheshire and Danwen in Wales, plus drive across that magnificent bridge. I did research but couldn’t find out the name of the bridge so if anyone knows please let me know!

Uplifting in the extreme, this film about gays supporting striking miners in 1984 UK, slams you over the head with every plot point imaginable. You see the hits coming and it just doesn't matter mainly because the cast is so adorable without being coy. Nothing grandiose or special here. Just a joy to behold as people come to together for uncommon causes. PRIDE is the kind of movie that makes you cry through the joy of humanity. So buy some popcorn, bring out the hankies, and call the schmaltz police. Expand

It touches on political-gay-film standards, like the looming HIV crisis, struggles of shame vs. pride, community vs. self, etc., but never takes them too far as to complicate the larger story at hand. Lots of really, really great moments by a swarm of talented relatively unknown (at least to American audiences) performers. Expand

this has actually been one of the best films I have seen all year, because I just can't find that many negatives to look at. Considering a lot of the films that have come out this year

The film addresses prejudice in a “and then they came for me” attitude of “if we don’t stick up for them, then they wont stick up for us ideal”. At the same time it’s not about the miners or gay rights as is mentioned in the advertising campaign, its just about prejudice in general and how if we don’t support one another its not going to help anything. This is really great as a film for anyone who has felt downtrodden or like they are part of a group who is misunderstood.

Pride is a film to be proud of. What could have turned out to be a schmaltzy, politicized comedy drama full of stock characters and clichéd situations is, for the most part, anything but. Sure, there are political statements being made aboutPride is a film to be proud of. What could have turned out to be a schmaltzy, politicized comedy drama full of stock characters and clichéd situations is, for the most part, anything but. Sure, there are political statements being made about a period of British history that affected the lives of many miners, and yes, it also highlights the continuing struggle of the gay and lesbian community circa 1984. However, the film is extremely well written with a strong story and is directed with restraint by Matthew Warchus. He never over extends scenes that threaten to get one groaning in anticipation of the obvious. In fact the tone of the film is just right. The comedy is sometimes laugh out loud funny and the drama is very affecting. One can't help but be moved by many scenes. The cast helps immeasurably, especially the older star names who effortlessly delineate identifiably believable characters. Since Vera Drake, Imelda Staunton has been an actress in demand on smaller quality projects because she is just so good. Her performance here is just confirmation of her stature. Bill Nighy, Paddy Considine and Andrew Scott also stand out. Strangely, Dominic West seems miscast as an older, rather flamboyant gay man, but there is no denying the energy and enthusiasm with which he successfully carries off a big dance number. In this one sequence he almost owns the film.
Ultimately, all these pluses add up to a feel good comedy drama that doesn't make the serious issues it is tackling portentous or heavy. The end titles provide interesting information about the characters and the period in question, some of which was certainly news to me, as was the story told within the film itself.

Went into the movie not knowing much about the history of L.G.S.M. and though I wouldn't say what I "learned" was accurate based on the mostly paint-by-numbers underdog story, the movie was funny and entertaining when it wasn't trying for comedy.
