Yet another remake of a classic that falls terribly short. Not to mention the CGI does not stack up well against its companion movies. Plot points sometimes work but never pull through in the end.

This liveIt's hard to imagine how it's possible to take a beloved children's story and turn it into a tediously awful movie, yet that's just what director Matteo Garrone has done with this tale of a puppet who dreams of becoming a real boy. This live action version of this classic yarn tries the patience of viewers to the point where one would likely sell one's soul for a fast forward button. Every scene of this picture is far too long, often weighed down by repetitive dialogue and the incessant cloying of its title character. Tremendous emphasis is placed on the look of the picture, with costumes, sets, makeup and cinematography that truly are top shelf. But what it delivers in terms of visual aesthetics is undermined by a lack of warmth and a failure to introduce anything new to distinguish this take on the story from previous productions. As a consequence, the picture never engages the audience but instead serves up boredom that borders on torture. What's more, the film is billed as family fare, yet its often-creepy imagery is unlikely to set well with younger viewers (that is, if they're not already done in by the movie's glacial pacing, a sure-fire way to turn off those with limited attention spans). I'm at a loss to figure out what the filmmakers were thinking here, but an exercise in high-brow production values is not the most effective approach to employ when it comes to telling a children's story. It may look nice, but, with whimsical and heartwarming material like this, that's not nearly enough. Expand

Full of awkward scenes because of terrible acting, dialogue, editing and of course directing. A film just with style but no substance.

This is straight up bad and a nightmare fuel movie, but it isn't a horror movie, it is just very disgusting and I watched it dubbed in Portuguese-Br (my native language) and oh god, it was terrible

Мрачно, не интересно, костюмы вызывают отвращение. Пинокио скорее даун, нежели наивное полено. Pinocchio is one of the most beautiful and unique retellings of the classic story. I was mesmerized by its beauty and charm from the very beginning.

Elements of the story seem to be different from the classic tale, offering a new look into the story. This may be a positive or negative depending on your taste. It either works or it over complicates things. The special effects on their film is breath taking. If Disney ever gets around to doing their live action remake of their Pinnochio story - they have some huge shoes to fill. I can’t imagine anyone doing a better job than this.

If I might make a recommendation, do not watch the English dub version. Be sure to watch with the original Italian language and English subtitles. The acting in this film is beautiful. Frederico Ielapi is so charming in his portrayal of Pinocchio. As well as the rest of the cast.

I know it's a very bizarre Pinocchio movie but it's hard to criticize that when the original story is so murky.
