Once again in the psychothanatological area, coping with the death of loved ones or the mourning of any existence is a topic that in the 21st century should be treated starting from the 1st season of "True Detective", while the debutant Sarnoski takes the shortcut of instilling silence with the silence, loneliness with the loneliness, emptiness with the emptiness, sadness with the sadness and so on. It's called the rhetorical method, and I am not aware that aesthetics has ever changed its mind on this point.

Such Individual movies are known as "Cinema" and are the building blocks of the Hollywood Industry. Such movies aren't considered worthy of watching and praising just because they don't belong from a Franchise or Studio.

I love watching such movies but only a few movies touch me deeply in this genre like Joker 2019 and the Pursuit of Happiness were my favorite individual movies. I watched this movie but I didn't find its story epic. Yes, it was a good and decent story but as I said that in this genre, only a few movies can touch my heart but unfortunately pig wasn't among all that. But But But... the character of Nicolas Cage is just amazing in this movie and an Oscar-winning character. His character development was too good and his performance was just excellent. I would only suggest you watch this movie for Nicola's performance. The scene where the protagonist was confronting a specific character in a hotel was outstanding. It's an emotional story of a man dealing with his past and present loss. You would love it if you love such poetic movies. But this movie isn't for everyone.

I was already wary of this one walking into it since at this point in his career, Cage indulges in self-parody with any film or role he takes on, and this one is definitely no exception. He looks washed-up, bored, and lost as he wanders aimlessly throughout most of this film alongside a snobby and sharply-dressed Alex Wolff. The story is ludicrous and seems to go nowhere, and there's no satisfaction or payoff of any kind that makes sitting through such an absurd premise of a film worth it in the end. Overall, it's really a waste of time despite some decent and committed performances from Cage and Wolff with the material they're given. Expand

It's undeniably atmospherically beautiful. Unfortunately, the story permanently fizzles out it's hot start within 10 minutes. So much dead time looking pretty

It's writing possesses an uneven storyline and an inconsistent tone, although the themes of death and loss are well-explored. The triumph in 'Pig' however, is the acting. Nicolas Cage puts on what is probably his best performance since 'Adaptation." He perfectly captures the loss and determination underneath a character clinging onto his sole true companion, even if it is simply a pig. The movie as a whole left a lot to be desired, certainly with areas for improvement, but even with its sometime slow pacing, the realistic acting keeps from becoming just a weird, overreaching melodrama. And it does this quite well. That's the gist of the high ratings. Would it be as highly acclaimed had it not been for this Cage-driven gimmick? I doubt it.

It is relatively haphazard in hitting its plot points (going from "new environment" to "new environment" in the search) in order to achieve this subversion of genre and Nicholas Cage being Cagey. All in all, it is a good movie (well shot, solid performances - Cage is great, alongside a great approach towards the topic of pretentiousness, the bourgeois, and loss). But I do believe the gimmick of subversion is what led to the "fanatical" reviews.

Movie tries unsuccessfully to be deep. Really bad plot. I do not understand why so many reviews are positive. Pretentious, and Cage's acting is really not acting, but keeping a paralyzed/unemotional face for the entire movie. Skip.

Definitely felt like the story was stretched out a bit to hit that 90-minute mark and it can be a little slow at times because of it. The scene with the underground fight club didn't really make much sense but sure, why not.

It's a flawed movie but a tolerable one. Worth checking out but not one really worth ranting and raving about IMO.

While watching this offering, I got the distinct feeling that I was being strung along, hoping that its cryptic unfolding would result in a satisfying payoff yet suspecting it wouldn't live up to that promise -- a suspicion that proved correct. In this story of a once-noteworthy chef who turns into a reclusive truffle hunter in the Oregon wilderness after a personal tragedy, we find a sad and lonely protagonist who becomes distraught when the only thing he truly cares about -- his beloved pet foraging pig -- is kidnapped. The incident prompts him to launch a committed search for the purloined porcine, one that necessitates a return to his Portland roots and his troubling past. Strangely obsessive and offbeat as the story may seem, it's executed with a surprising degree of credibility, yet it never quite attains a level of engagement that would make viewers really want to care about what's going on, cold as that may sound. It also attempts to wax philosophically on a number of occasions, though this aspect of the narrative, like the story line overall, nevertheless feels underdeveloped. Still, the film marks Nicolas Cage's commendable return as an actor worth taking seriously, and it shows considerable potential for a new filmmaker. But, sadly, there's not enough here to reach out and grab the audience's attention to give them a vested interest in how it all turns out. Better luck to the director in bringing home the bacon next time out. Expand

Great story telling, but it feels like a 30 minute movie stretched out into a 1 hour and 30 minute one.. could've been better.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This is the first Nicolas Cage film that I can remember that was just kind of a middling movie for me either he is amazing or awful. So I don't really have a big sway either way for this one think of it like Taken if Liam was a chosen backwoods hillbilly that use to be a high end cook whose grasp on reality isn't all there. Expand
