Not quite as bad as some of the reviews might suggest but in this over saturated genre of cg animated family movies it leaves much to be desired. The jokes fell flat, the voice casting felt off and the screenplay was dull. It was not as good as some other movies about kung fu or fighting in anime like Kung fu Panda maybe, but I did enjoy it for most of it. Felt a bit cheapish at times though and like something missing from the story, but I think it was overall ok.

I love this movie about Japan, although the movie confuses the Japanese and Chinese. LOL. I like the character " Jimbo". It apparently came from Yojimbo played by Toshiro Mifune, many years ago. It went well. It's a family film. The "racist atrocity" critiques I'd seen were all absurdly over the top. In fact, there's a scene early on when two guard cats tell themselves "their reason" for detesting dogs, which is a funny dig at howIt went well. It's a family film. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. It is strange movie actually. I don’t think I get lots of positive emotions while watching it. Of course it has great ideas and actors (voices of actors), but it was... Not really funny I guess. Yes, cartoon about samurai dog with Samuel L. Jackson wasn’t funny. Mostly, it’s kid movie. And jockeys are for kids. But I guess they thought about adults only while finishing making “Paws of Fury”. It is why some funny jokes could be seeing here. Like when they talked about curiosity and cars, or scene with falling horses. You may watch it if you like, but I don’t think it would become your favourite movie and you’ll recommend it for everyone.… Expand

I thought it was entertaining, funny, and suitable for the whole family. It takes a lot of guts to remake a movie like Blazing Saddles and while it isn't perfect, it's just the right amount of humor and spirit. I don't know what mistakes were made regarding whether it had Chinese or Japanese tones, but it's an animated movie which shouldn't be taken too seriously. Just like its predecessor, it should be watched with an open mind. If you worry too much about things like that, perhaps a documentary is more fitting.… Expand

If you've seen Kung Fu Panda a couple of times, go watch it again instead of watching this. This is an inferior Kung Fu Panda (which was, itself, flawed) and an inferior Blazing Saddles. Ricky Gervais is awful in this. He honestly might be the world's worst (highly successful) comedic actor. Probably not, but he's up there. It's hard to say if Paws of Fury is his worst performance. He's just Ricky Gervais, like back on his podcast. Like you just called him up on the phone and he read the script to you.

I'm going to say it: Mel Brooks wasn't that funny back when he was in his prime. Blazing Saddles hasn't aged well. Comedy doesn't age well, in general. It would be a miracle if 90+ year old Mel Brooks was funny. He's a legend and this is nostalgia blurring what does and doesn't work.

They should focus on making a film that kids really engage with, rather than trying to emulate the comedic stylings of a man who was in his prime 50 years ago.

It sounds like I hated the film. I didn't hate it. It's completely forgettable but passable entertainment. Not a lot of laughs. Michael Cera and Samuel L Jackson are good. It has some charm.… Expand
