This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Chris Pratt wakes up on a space ship alone that won't reach it's destination for 90 years. He gets bored and lonely and wakes up Jennifer Lawrence. I liked the ship. I wouldn't mind spending time on it, especially if Jennifer Lawrence was there. Pratt and Lawrence have great chemistry too. The problem is that most of the movie is just watching two people do things on a cool ship. Like having dance offs, drink, swim, play basketball and predictably fall in love. I still don't get why critics hated it though. There's good performances and I like the science fiction aspect of the movie. Plus it's not like the film doesn't keep your interest. I guess critics thought the movie needed the plot from Alien. Expand

"Passengers" Is Diminished By Misguided Attempts of Jon Spaihts

Worthy of the third place among the best unproduced scripts in Hollywood (Black List); nine years ago (2007), "Passengers" sign was just a basic preliminary version predisposing to find a studio to financing its making with $35 million initial cost and possibly starring multi-nominated Keanu Reeves and Emily Blunt. Eventually, Sony Pictures got IP rights and fortunately signed Morten Tyldum up in the direction to materialize it with $110 million extraordinary production budget with fabulous signing of Chris Pratt and Jennifer Lawrence as leaders of the ambitious project. Today, they present us an already assembled film, aesthetically superb, with unimaginable argumentative potentials and a harmonious chemistry between its main leads, however, its biggest point break is specifically in the screenplay, which diverges tirelessly from that original version established it among the best unrealized projects.

In the adjacent future, mankind is able to emigrate from over-populated and ruined Earth for leaving and seek for habitable spaces abroad. The starship Avalon is transporting 5,000 passengers and over 200 crew members in a cryogenic sleep for a journey that takes 120 years in order to arrive in Homestead II, the new planet Earth. Although everything seems to indicate that the cyclopean experiment will be satisfactory, the spaceship collides hardly against a meteorite, which stirs up the breakdown of one sleep chamber, Jim Paterson's, our protagonist. Each person in the ship has a unique and substantial occupation around the population of the new colony: doctors, microbiologists, nurses, machinists, law specialists, etc. Jim is a young mechanical engineer, who quickly becomes aware that he has awakened 90 years early the official advent, contemplating ethical and moral dilemmas as intrinsic as outer space where the story runs. After one year of being in a techno-transitory paradise, he finally concludes to awaken to one traveler and keeping in mind that it would practically be to immolate her, male protagonist's elections are deeply objectionable. she's named Aurora (Jennifer Lawrence), a writer from New York who aims to write a book about her personal experience in the new world and return to the planet Earth with the most amazing story. Nevertheless, failure accumulation of the huge ship and different narrative confidences push them to the edge of space, literally.

The cinematography by Rodrigo Prieto is incredibly absorbent, it's imposing accompanied by dazzling production design, where prevails snowy and dreary tones which divinely adapt to prelude in order to connect with main character's isolation.

The film's cardinal mission is spectators must put oneself in Jim's shoes, it suggests them convoluted dilemmas of the character and deleterious corollaries drive by the silence demon. Chris Patt's charisma in the first few minutes as survivor into a technological spaceship is enough to keep it afloat, he wanders naked with a—superfluously—long beard, formulating himself moral matters such as suicide, a death foretold and unbearable solitude. Although many people didn't realize, The decision of Jim must be worthy of debate and more worthy must be its subsequent actions. In the middle of the film, when love starts to flow between lovers, Stockholm syndrome is patent and the protagonist can be stealthily described as a harasser. However, this scene is covered with Tyldum's direction, who focused on other banalities.With the arrival of Aurora, the fascinating concepts raised in the first hour of the sci-fi movie take their place at the end of the list, since it opts for conceiving a bland affair, a romance as sporadic as tedious. Go from there, the movie breaks down and loses the land he was harvested beside "Gravity", "Interstellar" or the more recent "Arrival". Although it works excellently as a romantic film, it is the third act which affects decisively its prestige. Its unsatisfactory ending wasn't the most pertinent for concluding this futuristic story.

Frustrating, a missed opportunity. For those who attend to a movie theater without having depths and inconsistencies in mind, "Passengers" is the favorite candy for mass audiences. For us who inherently love films and we're as severe as objectives, "Passengers" is an irregular movie, but essentially spoiled. This one is a true sign that the nature of the seventh art is to narrate a story, a tightly structured story, not mere visual beauty. With a first part which puts in manifest our deepest human questions; the exciting and controversial issues are imperceptibly mitigated into a surplus drama-romance and a typical Hollywood final sequence, which could be circumstantially sublime hugging the original one. It makes us think that it's another corporate product, but inside us, we know that Sony dropped a film which be aiming for the top between its hands.

Cool effects, bad movie. The movie just explores the relationship between the two protagonists, everything else, the future, the ship, how the civilization got there, etc is neglected. The best part of the movie is the android bartender.

Passengers is not a science fiction thriller, but a love story that comes close to a tragedy. It explores the concept of the need for companionship, and was interesting to watch.

The critic herd went the other way from their all too often mass over-praise and general easy going across the board and seems to have under-rated here. A shame since it looked to be a "Gravity" like (9 rating) big popcorn entertainment, so desperately missing in general at the box office this holiday season. This actually is very much a "Gravity" type adventure but much more sci-if in scale and future imaginings. Yet it has about as unique a story concept as it gets with these things in today's Hollywood. It is pretty smart science fiction that wisely sets up a plot development that gives the romance some real pathos. I buy the love story in this more than that in "Allied". Where it goes wrong is all but a given these days: it turns too formula in the end. Well, it sure could have been worse, way worse.

I'm a fan of Thomas Newman's music, which most of the time adds an emotional weight to the proceedings whatever they are in all the so many films he's scored. This time is no exception. The photography is subtly rich and conventionally shot making it infinitely more watchable than such handheld junk as "Jason Bourne" or "Patriots Day". The leads are fine. They are stars and pull you along as stars must do. The pace is slow, but that is not always a bad thing as "2001" demonstrates to the point of masterpiece genius ultimate classic. This is not a great movie that requires multiple viewings for its total effect though. Think of it as "2001 Very Lite" or "3016: A Millennial Romantic Odyssey".

The whole plot feels a bit flat, i mean, a company of millions of billions of dollars build a ship that will travel for 120 years and don't build a fail safe for the hibernation pods? that's just sloppy and 5000 people fell for it, Chris Pratt's character needed more development, he woke Jennifer Lawrence's character because he fell in love with her interviews and books? Come on! He had no family or friends? Laurence Fishburne's "cameo" was more forced than moving... with that being said, the 3rd act was intense and i loved it and Jennifer Lawrence had a great performance Expand

It's not really sci-fi, not underneath all the superficial effects and the setting. In essence, it is the story of a woman who falls in love, falls out of love because she realizes she has been betrayed, and then forgives and falls back into love again. Ta da. That's it.

I enjoyed the opening shots before any characters were introduced. And it was interesting after the introduction of Chris Pratt for maybe 20 minutes, but definitely by the half hour point the story begins to drag and it keeps dragging until the very unrealistic ending. It's hard to explain why this movie is so dull without giving away spoilers, so let me do that. SPOILERS FOLLOW

RIGHT NOW BELOW -- SPOILERS

BIG TIME SPOILERS IMMEDIATELY FOLLOW

Chris Pratt is in hibernation along with a bunch of other people, on a 120-year journey to a new planet that's been colonized. But a gigantic meteor hits the ship busting through its shields and damages the ship, causing his hibernation pod to malfuction. He wakes up 90 years too soon. He can't get the pod or any unoccupied pod to work to put himself back in suspended animation. He wanders around the gigantic ship entertaining himself with all of its fancy restaurants and amusement arcades, alone, and in the meanwhile falls in love with Jennifer Lawrence. You see all the pods have clear fronts, so you can see the person in them. He spots her in a pod. He reads up on her in the ship database. Falls more in love. And then, after a year of loneliness, he reads a manual about the pods and triggers hers so that she wakes up. Then he runs away quickly so she will think that her pod malfunctioned too. She wakes up and wanders around until she finds Chris Pratt.

They fall in love. But then she finds out that he woke her on purpose. She had thought her pod malfunctioned, too, like his. She screams at him. Hates him. Refuses ever to be in the same room with him. Prefers to be alone.

The rest of the movie is dedicated to her hating the only person she knows, then to him nearly dying trying to repair the ship (They find out what happened and that the ship is slowly falling apart) and as he drifts out into space having been working on fixing the ship from the outside, she suits up, flies out into space and by the skin of her teeth manages to rescue him. But when she gets him back inside, of course like Snow White, he appears to be dead. She grieves, realizing she will be alone the rest of her life. Then he opens his eyes. And now, of course, she loves him again more than ever.

So it's a story of someone falling in love, then being betrayed, then forgiving. Simple as that really underneath all the sci-fi fluff. The last act is dumb, and completely unrealistic, but I won't give it away. But man, I want to, because it is so ridiculous.

But with only two people and a robot bartender, and a brief appearance by a crew member who toward the end also wakes up, there is just not nearly enough material to fill 2 hours, not even close. This would have been a great half hour Twilight Zone episode. But a two-hour movie, no. If they were determined against good judgment to make a movie out of this slight story, they should have at least kept it to an hour and a half.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Stockholm Syndrome! IN SPAAACE!

I wanted to love this movie. I loved the visuals, I loved the 'technology' in the Avalon with the overused holograms. I would even have bought the ending if Aurora had given her 'friend' the finger and went back to sleep. I bought every single piece of information in the setting that says we, in the future, can:

- Create a starship capable of navigating at 50% the speed of light between stars, including a shield system;
- Create artificial intelligence capable of diagnosing organic malfunctions and effectively treat them;
- Create artificial intelligence capable of sustaining a conversation and serving drinks;
- Put 5250 people in suspended animation for decades;
- Create the fusion reactor that powers the Avalon, completely unsupervised, supposedly reliably for 120 years;

What I could not buy is this idea that, in this scenario, we couldn't create a computer system capable of WAKING THE GODDAMNED CREW OF THE STARSHIP when things went wrong so that they could fix the actual problem before it became catastrophic, especially while the ship had some self-repairing capabilities. Especially when the ship is stocked with spare parts for repairs. Speaking of spares, why is it that it had only one autodoc? Convenient, wasn't it? That a starship 120 years away from home has only one of those even though it had a crew compliment of 250 and 5000 passengers.

When I first heard of the movie, the trailer had me think that the ship had woken up Pratt and Lawrence intentionally and that sounded interesting. That they were alone and that there wasn't anyone with actual understanding of how the ship works. Specially considering that Pratt's character is a MECHANICAL ENGINEER. That would've made the whole thing somewhat intelligent. What we got was dumb random chance. Also, someone explain to me why the hell could the autodoc bring Pratt back from the dead but couldn't save Fishburne? That is the end of the problems with the sci-fi part of the film. Even considering how the radiation from the fusion reactor would've sent Aurora's DNA to kingdom come...

Now, there is the problem with the romance part of the film. This could've been a suspense thriller with Aurora trying to keep alive in a metal sarcophagus, dodging an insane man. Or perhaps, a simple sci-fi, space survival movie, even with a stupid brainless romance. Anything without this slow, uninspired 'romance'. At worse, they could have stopped Pratt's character from waking her, clearly showing his intention and despair, yet seconds from actually doing it, only to have one of these convenient failures wake her despite of him. This would've fixed the whole problem with their 'romance'. And... Aurora?? Really? The Sleeping Beauty? People out of touch with reality shouldn't write romances and dumb people shouldn't write science fiction. When they meet and make a movie, movies like Passengers are created, where they don't have the cheese and smart of actual sci-fi, the kind heartwarming of a decent romance or the grit of the Grimm Brothers.

The latter two have modest roles in the film. The plot to save the ship encompasses only the last thirty minutes of the movie. A story like this it could've been anything. A horror, mystery, romance or just a movie with Pratt by himself. Well technically all four are combined together. A premise this good, it tries to be everything at once, because it doesn't want to miss a opportunity of being something else. When you find out the actual story that the trailers once again lies about, it's pretty creepy and makes Pratt's character selfish.

But with that said, I actually enjoyed the movie and didn't hate it like everyone else. Which is surprising.

I liked the first 30 minutes of film that really got the feeling of fear and anxiety spot on. Even Chris Pratt was pretty damn in the first act, when he realizes he's the only person to wake up due to a malfunction with his pod. I actually brought into Pratt performance, as it did convince me he's scared for his life. Jennifer Lawrence is good in this, but sometimes overreacts in a few scenes that wasn't needed. Pratt and Lawrence had chemistry, but despite the lackluster script that doesn't fix or get around Pratt's character actions that are unforgiving. Or the third act.

The movie is filled with flaws, but at least I found some enjoyment with it (somehow). I mean, it wasn't really bored with it, so there's that.

Overall, Passengers isn't a great sci-fi romance movie, because of its stupid but creepy story. Lawrence and Pratt have done a great job, their chemistry is so complicated. The twist is so stupid. But, yet it's still a great visually stunning.

Painfully unoriginal and boring script. You could call the entire plot of the film from start to finish within the opening minutes of it. The dialogue is garbage as well. Not even the talented cast could save it.

Great visual effects & adequate performances from main characters but film needed some sub-plots included. Although the main plot was easily understandable & intense in my opinion it lacked surprises.

It had breathtaking visuals and neat effects that at least kept it pretty to watch for the most part. In addition, Chris Pratt and Jennifer Lawrence make the most of their star power together, but their roles not so much. In addition, there really wasn't much of a plot or story in this film to be honest. Unsurprisingly (and disappointingly), the film's main focus is on the romance between Pratt and Lawrence and it takes a while for things to really get going until the second half. Overall, while it may be visually appealing and Pratt and Lawrence have decent chemistry together at times, there really isn't much else going for it to really make it worthwhile, especially since there's no deep or compelling story to be found anywhere in the film, let alone much of a story at all I'm afraid. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. A Sci-Fi film that forgot the Sci-Fi. This film is very, very slow, and doesn't ever get to a climax that equates to the amount of build up the film forces the audience to endure. It felt a lot like the German/Austrian Sci-Fi "Cargo", which was 100 times better. There are times in the film, were it could have veered off the cliche course of every other typical film, and made something interesting and memorable. But, alas, it fails to take a chance and employs the same boring plot that has been done too many times before.

The story in a nutshell - Man wakes up, is lonely, wakes up girl, girl gets angry, ship has a failure, somehow the dude fixes the ship, dies trying, girl brings dude back to life just in time to to make for a boring cliche plot and all is forgiven, happily ever after.

SPOILERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Although it does a lot to cover the plot holes, there's a gaping plothole at the end:
If they were capable of accessing the crew, then why:
1. Didn't they wake up the crew when Gus woke up so they could all go back to the pods?
2. Didn't they wake up the crew when Jim was rescued so they could all go back to the pods?
I get that this is about the romance etc. but they shouldve added a good explanation of why they didn't save themselves via waking up the crew...

Again, as with many imaginative movies, I liked it more than the reviews. I liked it more than I thought I would. The plot did not remind me of Titanic; and, I do see the comparison. What it does well and better than many space movies, is capture the awe, majesty and wonder of space life and its dangers--as Gravity did so well. Same effects house MPC for both, I believe. I liked both leads. They are acting at the top of their forms. I liked how the woman's role is written. You don't see that much range in a female character in this type of story usually. Aurora has more range as a character than the female lead in Titantic. From reading the reviews first, I was afraid it was going to be another "studio suits" driven disaster like 2015's Peter Pan. In this case I could "hear" the suits tamping down the extremes of the movie' and yet, I found the "romance" and its resolution rather satisfying. In terms of the poor reception, I think we have another BFG and Kubo situaiton; where, audiences cannot absorb, appreciate, receive a work of art with many very high frequency aspects and high intelligence and coherence. Chris Pratt and Jennifer Lawrence performed expectedly like we're used to them - with Pratt having his typical lost yet determined attitude and Lawrence the odd emotional breakdown every now and then (insert scream here). CGI is state of the art, the scenery should've been expanded better. Though impressive, most of the locations within the futuristic spaceship seemed repetitive within Passengers two hour run-time. The movie is easy prey for critics like YouTube's "CinemaSins", who are searching for plot holes. They won't have to look far. For if people are truly as stupid and naive as it suggests in the film, we would have gone extinct long ago. What Morten Thylum failed to deliver in terms of logic, he unfortunately doesn't make up with the ending, which is rushed, uninspired and insultingly disappointing. Despite it's potential and great CGI, Passengers will end up in the same drawer (which I would not recommend for you to let that far) Films like "The Island" (2005) and The Matrix 2 & 3 - a failed attempt in creating a realistic, thrilling futuristic experience. Completely devoid of all meaning. So many things that could have been done with the concept of cryogenics, space and life on a new planet, and this piece of garbage decided to make this a chick flick with a happily ever after ending of them falling in life and building new life on the ship (1.5 minutes of the movie). Laurence Fishburne got a piecemeal role, and despite all actors playing to the best of their ability, the entire movie, save the start and one other scene, was completely pointless, predictable and typical. The ultimate failure of this movie is the plot, and no special effects or good acting could have saved this. This was a complete and utter disappointment, the extent of which is astounding considering the fine actors, an enormous team, and the privilege of modern technology available. Do not see this movie unless you wish to waste your time and money. Basically is a romantic comedy but in space, a strange combination, that certainly doesn’t worked out. There is an opportunity of making a difference at the outcome, however is wasted, resulting in cheap sentimentalism and a predictive finale. The performances are terrible and the chemistry as couple is non-existing. The direction is very weak and better don’t speak of the screenplay. Really hard to believe that is was from the same director of Imitation Game, I don’t know if he suffer a concussion in his head or what, but is an awful work. Now thats alone gives it a nice potential, but goes as far as that, potential. Chars are bland. The movie, at a few point, goes to extremes to make you care for them, but you dont. They are plastic, generic, typical, ad faces. All actors are cool and talented, but they cant conjure a miracle and make the roles given to them interesting.

This movie would have been much better, if both protagonists would have been woken up from hypersleep by a system failure. The fact that Jim wakes up Aurora just because he doesnt want to die alone on a spaceship, makes the hole story unbeleiveable. Aurora finds out, hates him because he destroyed her whole life and then there is a moment in the film when she forgives him from one second to another. This doesnt make sense at all. How do they live like 50 years alone on a spaceship with nothing other to do than Playing Guitar Hero, doing sports and talking to the Android at the bar without running crazy? i had loved to see more screen time from Laurence Fishburne as well. When a spaceship malfunctions, two passengers on a 120-year voyage to a new home planet wake up from their sleep state ninety years too early.

What did I think?

Take a Sci-fi flick, throw in some romance, a few major (and kind of messed up) ethical dilemmas, and a healthy dose of tension and you have a movie that will almost certainly promote robust discussion of that “what would you do?” variety after the credits roll. In what seems to be a trend in movies these days, the trailer for Passengers is a little misleading. Without spoiling things, the premise of this movie is a LOT darker than we are led to believe.

When theA ship that it is going from earth to another planet and will took several years to reach there, there is about of 5.000 people at the ship, including passengers and tripulation, that are hibernating for the time to reach the planet. When the ship get in an asteroids place the shield fail sometimes and the functionality of the ship start getting in trouble and one of the problems is that one of the passengers capsule open a lot before the time and he start living alone until he make some questionable decisions. Directed by Morten Tyldum.
This movie can be divided in 2 very different parts. The first act is more about we understand the situation before the character, and then we see him finding out what is going on. I think they did a good job showing him trying to fix the situation somehow, considering that he is an engineer it totally make sense the things that he was messing with. Showing the isolation and at the same time letting us know the ship and what functionalities it has was essential for us to know where we were. I think that the movie did an good job in showing the desespere of being alone with only robots and aritifical intelligence with so long, at the same time that it was good, i felt that i could have been a little better, i didn't felt much the isolation problem, i didn't felt that sadness that much, they could have gone a little further on it, giving a little more time to this act until they got in the next one. The second part, wich goes until the end of the movie, is a totally romance, they got stuck a little more in the survivor thing, but they go in full romance later on the movie, it doesn't got nothing new and nothing different, it becomes a very cliche story, that isn't that bad, just isn't nothing new. They input a relationship that is very forced, i didn't felt that it was natural, but isn't the worst neither, them had some chemistry wich make things better. I could really think in myself alone waiting to die, the movie could make me have this reflection, wich surely is a positive point, the helplessness of being alone is destroyer.
The acting was on point. Chris Pratt was very good, in the begin of the movie where his character was figuring things out, and some shocking discovery happens, he was good at showing unhappiness, in some moments he had a cry face that i totally bought, it was pretty good. Jennifer Lawrence was ok, she kind of overacted in some sequences, her scream in some moments kind felt forced and not natural, she wasn't horrible, i just believe that things could have been a little more organic. Laurence Fishburn is functional, his character is crucial for develop of the movie in the third act, he didn't had much to do, but worked out.
I like the message that the movie brought, that we don't have to go for an amazing life to be happy, the movie flirt with this idea in some moments, and makes sense with the contect there, it was good.
The futurology of the movie was good, they ship convinced as being some really advanced technology.
The effects was also very good, it didn't had a lot of them during the movie, but the few moments that they use it worked out, there is one pool scene that the gravity is changed and the water start moving wich was very nice.
The story of the movie isn't original at all, when they were presenting the ship and showing how the place work or the tense on being alone and die alone, the movie was actually being very good, and i was curious, but after the romance start with a click it kind lost this aspect and it became a generic one. The movie got some easy solutions and somethings that come out of nowhere to explain one thing or another. Things that sould have been presented before in the movie, that when it comes up it feels deslocated from what is going on. Somethings doesn't make sense, somethings were very out of place.
The cinematography and the soundtrack don't show up in the movie, it doesn't mark in any aspect, and pass desapercebidos. There are some cool transitions but that's it.
The movie may work if you accept the big plot and how things get during the course, that didn't bother me much, but i can see why some people would hate it. But overall this a movie with a interesting plot, the story could have been told in a much better way, but still it is a romance at first sight story with nothing new.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The movie has such a fantastic premise but then throws all of that aside in favor of a **** and very questionable romance movie. Jims loneliness is very real and painful if the movie wanted to be about the question of waking someone up then it should have stayed that way. The first 20 minutes of watching jim struggle is great, and him on the verge of suicide makes perfect sense and is tragic. But no, mediocre romance movie. The moment that she realizes jim woke her up feels so much weaker than it could have been ultimately meaning absolutely nothing because she just forgets about it. The finale is an excuse to make them get back together and is an absolute mess. As so many others have already said this movie from Auroras perspective could have been a great psychological thriller. Imagine that same reveal to the audience except we dont know about jim waking up. Of course it would not have been a major money maker and romance movie had they gone down that route but damn it would have been vastly more interesting. The entire first half of the movie feels pointless at the end. None of it mattered at all. Overall passengers is an okay movie, I dont think its as awful as everyone says but it is definitely repetitive, a bit boring, and the characters arent as engaging as you would hope. Also what the hell is with Laurence Fishburne excusing his behavior. Every person watching could not even being to imagine how alone Jim would feel, but just moving on from that and explaining it as “when a man is drowning he is going to pull someone down with him” is terrible and so unsatisfying. THE WHOLE BEGINNING OF THE MOVIE WAS ABOUT WAKING SOMEONE UP. He does it and then the movie just shrugs its shoulders and forgets about it because oh trauma bonding everything better now yay!!! wooohoooo! omg you guys have so much shared trauma now its okay. yeah **** off. **** off/10 Expand

The critics effed up again on this one.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Passengers is good sci-fi, pure and simple. On a third viewing, it holds up very well. Sci-fi is all about exploring the connection between human nature and technology, often with a bit of tragedy based on those decisions. Commercially, it was a success. Critically, this movie did poorly, likely due to the mismatch between J-law's primary audience (i.e. not likely sci fi fans, largely) as well as the build up to the me-too moment at the time. J Lawrence has since complained that she regrets taking the role, believing it hurt her career, but she also admits she was in a funk and under a lot of pressure at the time and needed a break. That doesn't make this movie bad either, both leads do a great job, with great writing and delivery. Interestingly, the concerns of her character's submission to manipulation is largely false. **Spoilers start here: Critics like to argue that in black & white, she is manipulated and ultimately falls for the instigator, but the entire point of the movie is to explore that manipulation and why it happened, and the core driving force behind it. It ultimately had almost nothing to do with the sexes, but rather an intense, universal human trait to connect to others. Pratt's character never makes excuses for his actions, never yells at the robot for revealing his secret, freely accepts death stares from Lawrence Fishborne and even submits to Aurora's violence against him without fighting back. He knows he screwed up and gave into the selfish urge to have a connection with another person again, and Fishburne's character more or less explains how intense that human reaction can be - 'sinking sailers bring others down.' It's an act of drowning, and like a gambler giving in, the pressure was just too great. Forgiveness is a powerful human trait, but it must be earned even if the original act can never be reversed. Some find that hard to permit any form of forgiveness for significant violations, but in reality, people often forgive those closest to them - when it's clear that the other party has truly submitted to their faults, humility, and own mistakes - it's not out of weakness like so many believe. It takes strength to know when and how to forgive and move on to enjoy our lives and regain the legitimate connections that we value once more... By the end of the movie, an out is offered freely to Aurora. But after all of her real, visceral anger dealing with the situation throughout the movie, she doesn't make the choice to stay out of stockholm syndrome, but rather out of the same drive for a real human connection that caused the whole plot ordeal. The movie works. It works from a human standpoint, and from a sci-fi one. Expand

It's just a lovely film to give your brain a little tiny provocation and I'd beautifully filmed. I loved it. Not an Oscar winner but great little break from my own stress. I've watched twice in 7 days in lockdown via film 4

It's a good movie if you just accept every fact they show to you but if you think about it then you will find there are so many things that don't make any sense

I think it take really good actors to be able to carry a movie as basically the only people in it. Chris Pratt and Jennifer Lawrence do just that...really well.

This might have been billed as a Sci-Fi as other reviewers have stated, but it is definitely romance, adventure and drama, with a little suspense thrown in.

I saw this without reading any reviews and loved it straight away, so much so that I watched it again within a few days. It is one of those movies that can be watched over and over without becoming boring.

When I read some of the critics reviews after watching it, I really thought they had the wrong movie.

My recommendation is if you like romance movies you will like this one, it is that simple.

I thought this movie was done really well. The special effects were outstanding, and so were the performances of Chris Pratt and Jennifer Lawrence. I didn't realize there was a "sexism problem" with this movie until I read about it years later, which is what prompted this review. Yes, evidently this movie is not woke enough for modern Hollywierd. Give me a break! Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Very nice anxious film that manages to entertain you to the maximum even managing to divide the audience between who gives reason to one protagonist and who to the other. The special effects are very nice and the plot is very good although in my opinion some interactions between the characters make a lot of sense. Expand

Passengers tells the story of Jim Preston (Chris Pratt) who, along with 4,999 other passengers, is aboard the Avalon spaceship headed towards the planet of Homestead II for colonization. However, a malfunction causes Jim's pod to malfunctionPassengers tells the story of Jim Preston (Chris Pratt) who, along with 4,999 other passengers, is aboard the Avalon spaceship headed towards the planet of Homestead II for colonization. However, a malfunction causes Jim's pod to malfunction and he wakes up alone, 90 years into the journey. The film follows his struggles with loneliness and the moral implications of his decision to wake up fellow passenger Aurora Lane (Jennifer Lawrence) to keep him company.

The film is visually stunning and the performances of Pratt and Lawrence are solid, but the story and script falter. The romance between Jim and Aurora feels forced and the lack of tension in set pieces makes the film lack excitement. The movie also jumps between ideas in a disjointed way, which doesn't do it any favors given its runtime of 116 minutes.

The ending is also unsatisfying and lacks a sense of depth or meaning. Passengers is a visually pleasing film, but it fails to deliver an entertaining experience for its runtime. The story is unengaging, the script is weak and the moral implications of the characters actions are not explored in a meaningful way. Despite its shiny exterior, Passengers is a film that fails to make an impact.
