The biggest difference between this movie and the 1987 version is not that the genders are reversed, but that this one isn't ever remotely funny. Popular Mexican actor Eugenio Derbez plays the spoiled rich guy and Anna Faris is the struggling mom of 3. When he falls off his luxury yacht and gets amnesia, she convinces him that he's the hard-working father and provider of her family. Derbez gives his character plenty of frenzied energy, but the situations and the script are never funny. Faris is comically useless. The Hispanic audience members seemed to enjoy the inside jokes (much of the dialogue is Spanish with subtitles), but the humor didn't translate. In addition, the sweet side of the story never gains much romantic steam. Might be smarter to rent the original.… Expand

I rate this 3 Since the original 1987 version I give it a 6 which is good enough so this one maybe half as good as the old one for some reasons like the main one is that this was boring also you know what’s coming plus for that SpanishI rate this 3 Since the original 1987 version I give it a 6 which is good enough so this one maybe half as good as the old one for some reasons like the main one is that this was boring also you know what’s coming plus for that Spanish language I wasn't able to understand half of the movie so if you watched the original one just stick to it and don't watch this crap if you don't then also watch the 1987 version funnier and more enjoyable if you don't like watching classic old movies then don't watch either… Expand

Si algo sabe hacer Derbez es hacer el idiota, actuar y sacarme una maldita sonrisa. Overboard recién se estreno en México y siendo sincero... No estoy de acuerdo con la critica. La película deja uno que otro cabo suelto, es una película de comedia y obviamente no es de 10 pero si algo hay celebran o amar y es la limpia actuación de cada uno de sus actores, la limpia y agradable comedia y lo agradable que puede terminar de ser. La comedia involuntaria es algo que sobresale, si, hay comedia forzada pero en este caso llega a verse como algo invisible, las cámaras parecen tomar el lado perfecto, si, tampoco tienen una calidad asombrosa pero llega a ser agradable y lo que una película cómica y un tanto familiar necesita, me llegaría hasta arriesgar diciendo que podía tratarse de una clase de de cambio de dirección para las películas de mundos opuestos que se terminan amando a ser un "Secuestro a un multi-millonario Mexicano y hago que crea que es mi esposo" y hace salir una bella relación con uno que otro evento que logra enlazarse, sin duda Overboard es la mejor opción para disfrutar un fin de semana con tu familia.… Expand

I really enjoyed this movie! It is lots of fun and even though I have never heard of Eugenio Derbez - and was totally disappointed that they hadn’t cast someone I really liked - he ended up growing on me. Switching the roles was brilliantI really enjoyed this movie! It is lots of fun and even though I have never heard of Eugenio Derbez - and was totally disappointed that they hadn’t cast someone I really liked - he ended up growing on me. Switching the roles was brilliant and Derbez played the part of a horrible rich boy so well. You just want to smack him. Ana Faris as the poor Mom/student was less effective, but still okay. The movie has some really funny moments and some good gags, i watched the original Overboard with goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell and found it to be much ess satisfying than this new updated version. If you just want to nave a good, fun time at the movies, this is a great choice.… Expand

We walked out. This movie was incredibly boring and not a bit funny or entertaining. Horrible acting..no comedic timing..and such a waste of the hour we forced ourselves to stay in the theatre.

Unfortunately and although it pains me to generalize, a large part of Mexican society likes to consume this type of comedies.
Although the film is mostly produced in the United States, its leaning towards Mexico is too evident.

In Mexico if you disdain something produced by a fellow countryman you're pretty much an outcast but I cannot support this.
The only thing that can be rescued is Anna Faris work, and it's clear she really could be doing better things.

And Derbez once again makes it clear that he has always been a parody, not a true comedian.… Expand
