What an outstanding film. Technically brilliant, yes, but the elegant storytelling is what make it special. Tenet tried to get people back in the seats, but this feels like the one that try will serve up the masses.

Another cinematic masterpiece by Christopher Nolan.
Oppenheimer might be the best film I watched in a long, long time.

Very different than Nolan's recent films, especially the Sci-Fi ones, but shows that Nolan can master the Biopic/Drama genre just as well as he can any other genre he tried to tackle yet.

The film is 3-hours long but goes through very quickly and enjoyably. Without spoiling anything, the film presents important and very relevant subjects, and doing so while being non-stop entertainment and a comprehensive character study and a study of our society on a very high pace.

Without mentioning anything specific, there was one scene that caused almost every single person in the theatre to move nervously in the seats, non-stop for a long period of time, being one of the most intense scenes I ever watched in a movie and reminding me of the true power of the cinematic experience like no other movie did in recent years.

The year is only half-way through but right now this is my top pick for the upcoming awards season. Picture, Writing, Directing, Acting, Score-- Oppenheimer is a winner on all fronts. A rare feat for filmmaking and a salient reminder that cinema is not dead.

I highly recommend this film to everyone. Watched it once already, and going back to the theatre for at least a few more times soon.

phenomenal filmmaking ;drama thriller at its best very best ; editing and cinematography and all technical aspects of the movie is in greatest standards, character arc and screenplay is fascinating ,brilliance written all over it !

acting master class; that's one word to describe the movie , it will take a lot of space to describe everyone, so am mentioning the ones impressed me most; matt damon is perfect and emily blunt is pretty good and best of Josh Hartnett to me ,Alden Ehrenreich is impressive and Florence Pugh is simply sensational !

and Robert Downey Jr ; excellency of acting ,one of his best work till date ! and the man who relived as OPPENHEIMER ; Cillian Murphy is mind-blowing !!!

Now lets talk about the MAIN GUY

IF A name of a director and his style of making outshine everyone and everything about the movie then his name must be Christopher Nolan !! If you love his cinemas ,you will adore this ! like he said "don't try to understand it, just feel it "

yeah just feel the Unparalleled Cinema Experience !!

All the main actors are at their top level of acting and combining that with the directorial capabilities of Nolan, turn in to one of the greatest cinematic masterpieces of all time. Also this is one of those movie which make's me watch it over and over again. After seeing this one I want to become a physicist, especially me who have a particular interest in cosmology, seeing all the scientific details , like images and flashes of the particle-wave duality of light, kept me tight in to my seat. Also there is one scene , the scene of the speech , just after the bombings of those Japanese cities. That scene is one of the most intense, frightening and chilling theatrical scene ever in history, brilliantly executed by Nolan, and magically performed pe Cillian. One for the Oscars for Nolan. And that "I believe we did" ending, keeps my up at night. I just can't find the words, and if I can, I'll write much more about the movie, but bottom down : Best Movie I've seen. Expand

Nolan’s back again only this time with a biography about “the father of the atomic bomb,” J. Robert Oppenheimer. Prepare yourself for a Summer blockbuster unlike anything you’ve ever seen before. In a 3 hour spectacular movie that demandsNolan’s back again only this time with a biography about “the father of the atomic bomb,” J. Robert Oppenheimer. Prepare yourself for a Summer blockbuster unlike anything you’ve ever seen before. In a 3 hour spectacular movie that demands your full attention. Spanning from Oppenheimer’s early life, his time leading the Manhattan project & the creation of the devastating bomb that the Americans used to end the war. See it on the big screen like you’ll never believe. And if you have the opportunity to see it in 35/70mm or IMAX then take it.

It really is an amazing achievement to create a movie that is essentially people talking in different rooms for 3 hours & have it being one of the year’s greatest movies. Directed by a true master filmmaker, Christopher Nolan has further cemented himself as one of the best and he’s the best for a reason. The trailer gave us only a taste of what’s in store. Although knowing the outcome, the sheer level of tension packed into this film is enthralling. It perfectly captures the overly ambitious men in their mission to create something that no one should ever have – “now I am become death, the destroyer of worlds.” Oppenheimer is an expertly crafted story that is horrifying, chilling & will leave you in awe.

You are watching a Christopher Nolan film which means don’t expect time to be linear, it’s told across various different time periods from Oppenheimer’s studies at Cambridge, the beginning of the Manhattan project, the trinity test in 1945 and the subsequent controversies in Oppenheimer’s later life. It can be a little confusing as one would expect from a Nolan movie but it uses a mix of colour and black and white shots to illustrate different character point of views.

It certainly deserves all the awards coming to it & there are so many Oscar worthy performances with the stand out one being Cillian Murphy. After years of working together, Murphy has finally been given the chance at a lead in a Nolan movie & he really shows us what a stunning actor he really is. His performance is haunting, he’s in almost every scene & was the perfect choice to play a guilt ridden Oppenheimer. Although much of the weight is carried by Cillian Murphy, Nolan has always understood the importance of a strong supporting cast. They consist of Emily Blunt, Robert Downey Jr., Matt Damon, Florence Pugh, Josh Hartnett, Jason Clarke, Alden Ehrenreich, Kenneth Branagh, Benny Safdie & Tom Conti. That’s not even all of them, the list is very impressive and each & every one of them brought their best to Oppenheimer. When Nolan calls, you say yes because it doesn’t matter if you’re only in one scene, you’re in a damn Christopher Nolan movie.

With amazing practical effects, it’s a movie clearly made for the big screen. That’s right you read that correctly it’s practical effects, no CGI. Nolan has always prioritised real sets, real effects & no he didn’t set off a real atomic bomb but the entire trinity test sequence is mesmerizing to witness & you really do want to see it on the biggest screen possible. Everything from the sound & editing will scar scenes into your mind forever. The crowd sequence afterwards is one of the most haunting things I’ve ever seen on film & the way in which Cillian Murphy conveys the horror of what he’s created is a masterclass in acting. With so many layers, the beauty of Nolan’s movies is you get something new with every rewatch. It’s powerful and does not shy away from the dark side of humanity in the creation of a devastating weapon of war. A cinematic masterpiece. Sound & music are always used very effectively in Nolan’s movies & Ludwig Göransson delivers yet another stunning score that perfectly captures the emotions surrounding a dark moment in human history. So much emotion expressed through the violin, it’s a sensational movie score.

Honestly I’ll be thinking about this film for weeks afterwards. For anyone who’s been left emotionally traumatised after the experience then fear not because as luck would have it, the perfect film is available to de-stress after Oppenheimer. The polar opposite to a historical biopic, Barbie is also out, in what looks like cinema’s most successful weekend in years. Audiences are jaded from the endless parade of remakes and sequels to already well established franchises but more of these original stories made by proper filmmakers will be the saviour to struggling cinemas. And the question was never which one do you want to see, it’s which one do you want to see first. It’s terrific to see so many people enjoying themselves in the cinema for these movies & whichever you went to see first this weekend I hope you enjoyed it.

Am I recommending Oppenheimer? Of course I am, Christopher Nolan is one of my favourite directors but whether you’re a fan or not, if you love film then Oppenheimer is a must see. It’s a jaw dropping film that will leave you speechless.

Such is itsChristopher Nolan's Oppenheimer is nothing short of a cinematic tour de force. From its opening frame to its captivating conclusion, the film is a 180-minute masterpiece that grips you, leaving you on the edge of your seat. Such is its brilliance and immersive storytelling, I hardly noticed the passage of time. Few films possess the allure to draw one back to the cinema for a rewatch, but Oppenheimer is undeniably one of them.

Ludwig Göransson's soundtrack deserves a standing ovation on its own. The auditory journey he crafts is mind-blowing. Each track is meticulously tailored to its corresponding scene, resonating with the film's varying emotions and pacing. The music flows with such elegance and coherence that it feels like a singular, 3-hour-long symphony, seamlessly underscoring the narrative.

In a world saturated with films vying for attention, Oppenheimer stands as a testament to what cinema can achieve. It's not just a movie; it's an experience—one that lingers long after the credits roll.

Oppenheimer is a drama/biography is a genre Nolan has not tackled before. So I was not sure how this one would come out, and was cautious to jump on the hype of the Barbenheimer craze.

BUT

After watching the film, I realise my doubt was misplaced and I have grown significantly more respect and appreciation for Nolan's work.

Oppenheimer was an amazing film!

Despite it being nearly three hours long, I was really impressed how they managed to give the film a fast pace. The film never really felt like it slowed down. The intensity was constant throughout. In a weird way, it felt like the ticking of a time bomb, always progressing to something bigger.

Ludwig Göransson's soundtrack was impeccable. It just complemented the film so well and played a major role in maintaining the films quick pace. I don't think I could name a another film where the soundtrack was so integral to the film.

All the actors and actresses gave outstanding performances! Cillian Murphy! My goodness! Oscar Worthy performance from him. I enjoyed the way the film kept me enraptured in his Oppenheimer's psyche. He brought such an emotional intensity to each scene, purely through his facial expressions and body language. I truly empathized with his moments of conflict where he gets caught in the thick of war and politics and how he is forced to grapple with the consequences of his actions.

I was also throughly impressed with Robert Down Jr's performance as Lewis Strauss. He made it seem so easy. I believe he could be a contender for Best Supporting Actor.

Credit must go to Emily Blunt and Florence Pugh, who did not have as big roles as Murphy, but did really well when they were on screen.

I love that Nolan always opts for shooting using IMAX cameras because it gives his film a unique visual style. The shots didn't have insane composition but I enjoyed their shooting style. They made use of many closeups which kept me engaged and allowed me to sympathise with Oppenheimer more. The closeups ups also kept you absorbed in the tension and did not allow you to escape. I continue to enjoy Hoyte van Hoytema colour palette as well with the combination of greys, blue, black etc.

This film is also a triumph in filmmaking because Nolan showed that even though there is no action but mostly dialogue, there are still ways you can use the film language to make a film engaging. On top of that, he still manages to share his unique artistic flair because even though Oppenheimer is a biography, it still felt like a "Christopher Nolan Movie" with it's sprinkles of espionage, special effects, surreal imagery etc.

Oppenheimer manages to live up and surpass the hype in many ways and could honestly go down as one of the most riveting dramas/biographies ever made!
The ones giving it bad scores are childish reviewers that can not understand the meanings on the movie. Too many marvel movies I guess...

Not the "Manhattan Project", not the "Atomic Bomb", not "The Bombing of Hiroshima & Nagasaki", just Oppenheimer. It's about the life of a theorical physician who became the most important man in the world and his downfall in his point of view. If you were going into this movie expecting just to be about the creation of the atomic bomb or see the destruction of Japan, then you're setting yourself up to be disappointed.

Although the creation of the bomb maybe the standing climax of this film, there are other purposes that has an important role: Oppenheimer's communist views, the Manhattan Project, security clearance hearing. We also get to see Lewis Strauss point of view of Oppenheimer and the trail as well. This movie is a biopic character study movie work so well in every way. The acting was phenomenal from all cast members, including Cillian Murphy and Robert Downey Jr. The pacing and editing were great, the music score was gripping, suspenseful, and well done. The sound has always been Nolan's criticism since The Dark Knight Rises, but it much better here in this movie despite being loud in IMAX.

The movie is treated like a documentary and its bit non-linear which I think some people would find boring considering it's a 3-hour movie of just people talking. I'll say knowing Nolan's style of filmmaking and it's a historical movie, it raises my expectations knowing where it was going. It's even better watching it on second viewing to look back what you miss during the first screening. I think this movie would've been received better for everybody if they didn't have issues with their attention span. Not all movies are meant to be entertaining but find some core of interested of something new we all been craving for. In the world where most summer blockbusters are CGI-fest, action packed, corny writing, this was actually refreshing.

He makes some of the most entertaining movies in modern cinema. Even at his worst, such as with his last film Tenet, it is still way more entertaining than a majority of movies released. After the Warner Bros same-day streaming debacle they pulled; Nolan left for Universal and this is his first film with them. Does Nolan continue to deliver or has he dropped a big bomb?

Cillian Murphy has been a long-time collaborator with Nolan but this is the first time he is the main lead. He is PHENOMENAL as the titular character. He gives such nuance to his performance through body language and facial expressions alone to convey the emotion of his character. It is such a breath of fresh air from the normal yelling Oscar performances you see. He is genuinely perfect at Oppenheimer and if he doesn't get a nomination for his performance then I will be fuming! One surprising aspect of watching this film was how stacked the cast truly was. There are so many well-known actors in here that I didn't even know was even in the movie. Every supporting actor is terrific in their roles, even if it was a very minor role. The biggest standout amongst the supporting actors has got to be Robert Downey Jr as Lewis Strauss. He gives a spectacular, compelling and even frighteningly realistic performance that makes his character stand out from the crowd. It is great to see him in a non-Marvel role and knock it out of the park. If he doesn't get a nomination for the best supporting actor then I will be also fuming!

This movie is 3 hours long but you won't even feel the length because of the amazing pacing. Despite being a drama, it never drags or bores you. It moves from scene to scene very quickly in a non-chronological order but you're never lost either. There are lot of scientific jargon which is to be expected as this is about the making of the nuclear bomb. However, the excellent screenplay makes these relatively understandable so that non-scientist can easily comprehend what's going on. There is some great political tension in the 3rd act as well which was handled masterfully. In terms of story, it is juggling a lot with Oppenheimer's early life, the making of the bomb and the aftermath. Despite this, Nolan does an amazing job of exploring the character of Oppenheimer which shows all aspects of him, including his flaws. The constant build-up and tension to the bomb is incredibly engaging!

Ludwig Goransson, the composer of Tenet, returns for this film. His music score is wonderfully haunting with his use of violins. His music score illustrates the horror of the actions of these scientists. Hoyte van Hoytema also returns as the cinematographer. His cinematography is visually stunning and this is thanks to the practical sets, natural lighting and real locations used. On that note, the use of practical effects and no CGI is just so awesome to see. Nolan thankfully didn't use a real nuke but he still replicates it practically and it certainly shows! The realistic explosion meant it didn't take us out of the movie as you don't question the look of the explosion as it is real. When the explosion occurs, it is weirdly captivating and frightening to look at just like it was for the characters. The sound design is also a highlight as the sound of the explosion is impactful and even terrifying. The sound itself is the jump scare and it works. The only nitpick I have with this film, which is a common problem in Nolan movies is sometimes I just can't hear what the characters are saying because of the weird sound mixing. It isn't as bad here as it was in Tenet but it is still a problem.

Overall, what an amazing movie from Nolan! This is a monumental and engrossing achievement from him. Nolan is one of the few directors whose name alone is enough of a reason to watch and Oppenheimer does not change that. He successfully made a 3-hour biopic drama, the most entertaining film of 2023. Oppenheimer isn't one of those Oscar-bait movies that were made to just win an Oscar. It was made to be enjoyable for everyone and that is why this film should win best picture. This is a must-watch for everyone as it is the best movie of 2023 so far!

Can never go wrong with a Christopher Nolan movie. His cinematography is unmatched. Time to go downvote all the Barbie 10's, because that movie is no where near as praised as Oppenheimer, and Barbie won't be winning any awards, whereas Nolan will easily be taking home some more Oscars to add to his collection!

Only reason why Barbie will make more money is because it isn't rated R, and I've already seen tons of kids and their parents dressed in pink, supporting the brand. Now for the real men and women in the world - Oppenheimer is for you and it is rated R, which of course always makes less money than a PG or PG 13 film.

Man, I love being right all the time! Sorry Barbie fans, but your movie isn't winning any awards at the next Academy Awards show, but you'll get to see Oppenheimer win several ;) because that's a real movie. I'll wait to see Barbie when it's free on torrent, for sure, just because I do like some of the actors in it. But this real man can't wait for more IMAX and Nolan!!

If Cillian Murphy is denied an Oscar for his haunting portrayal of J. Robert Oppenheimer, it shall be one of the great injustices in cinema history. The supporting cast was brilliant, especially Emily Blunt. I lost count of the ensemble cast of brilliant actors lining up for a few moments of silver screen time in this 3-hour journey that seemed to flash by. Imax certainly does justice to the vision of Nolan, from overwhelming visuals of the sub-atomic world and the expanded universe to the floor-shaking sound effects. The fast-cut scenes have an emotional impact when layered on unforgiving sounds. Oppie is a flawed and haunted man, a notion made quite evident from the beginning frames of the movie. He brings the wide-eyed wonder of a child as he journeys around the world in the quest for knowledge, meeting giants of physics upon whose shoulders our modern life rests. In a sense, he goes through a complete anti-hero’s journey from naivete, to triumphal power and finally down to defeat, disillusionment and despair. All throughout, we see his constant rationalization and justification of his inevitable march towards becoming the destroyer of worlds. One is torn between sympathy and hatred for this deeply complex genius. There are so many cautionary tales in this movie, about moments in history when one could swerve in a noble direction instead of taking humanity to the brink of self-destruction. There are other lessons about the politics and machinations of power and the urgency of avoiding enemies through humiliation. The warnings of Einstein delivered throughout the movie hammer home repeatedly. They say the age of discoveries is past us, and that there is nothing new to unlock anymore. Oppie and his companions were the last great explorers of the universe. What they unlocked remains the final frontier of science, everything that follows rests on their shoulders. Expand

For some people it might be a slow and boring movie, but if you have basic knowledge of history and interest, you'll absolutely love this movie.

All of the characters were really well written for the movie and the actors behind them did a damn good job. Outstanding actors such as Cillian Murphy, Robert Downey Jr. and Rami Malek make an appearance.

The scope of the film was ambitious, but if there's anyone that can do it, it's Christopher Nolan. The visuals are almost all practical and it pays off, this movie is stunning to look at from the first frame to its last. The cinematography also plays a part in this. The cast, acting, and dialogue are all perfectly selected, acted, and written. Specifically, the acting from Cillian Murphy, Emily Blunt, and Florence Pugh are all phenomenal. The pacing is fantastic though once you get to the court scenes towards the end of the movie it can drag a little, but it's nothing drastic The message of the movie being "just because you can do something doesn't always mean you should" is perfect for Robert Oppenheimer's story. The movie is great in IMAX just like Nolan promised, though I don't believe it is necessary to get the full experience of the movie like he said. The reality is, I don't see any obvious negatives to this film so this is a rare 10 out of 10 movie for me, and I hope everyone gets to go see it. Expand

It's one of those pieces of art that, after they end, make me feel sad that I have to return to a normal life, and can't appreciate masterpieces like this all the time. Like when you finish a good book and feel like you lost a good friend.
The acting, framing and specially the soundtrack are all of the charts. Perhaps the only thing I slightly disliked was the plethora of secondary characters that sometimes made me forget who's who, but even some of those side characters, like Einstein, had some of the most memorable scenes.

Everyone involved in it is at their absolute peak. Awe-inspiring. What’s it about? The fact that human intelligence operates on a level that human emotion cannot encompass. It’s about how our brain kills our heart.

10/10. Obligatoria de Ver. Expand

Yes, the movie is 3 hours long, but I swear I didn't get bored for one second, damn, I was actually very interested. And the nuclear bomb scene... i won't lie, the minute before the nuclear test i was sweating and my heart was pounding so fast because i was getting ready for the explosion. I didn't expect it to be THAT loud (I was watching it in the cinema at the time) and god damn it startled me so much. 10/10 This movie is actually one of the best cinematic experiences I've ever had in the cinema. I really want to watch it again because it was so enjoyable to watch Oppenheimer. Expand

I would have put this at 9.5 if I could but I can't so I won't sell it short by putting it at nine, overall this a genuinely fantastic movie that I don't think you can understand until you've seen it.
