The theater where I watched it had the sound so loud that the voices were distorted. On top of that, the movie can't go 60 seconds with excessively loud, dramatic mood music covering the dialog. The movie also loves explosions -- not just The Bomb, but explosions even when Oppenheimer is contemplating the cosmos.

Matt Damon as General Grove was my favorite character. He lit up the screen whenever he showed up. Robert Downey Jr. also did an excellent job as Lewis Strauss.

I was hoping for more coverage of the work of the scientists developing the bomb, but that was almost completely skipped. The focus of the movie is Oppenheimer's personal life, his loves, his torments, and his political problems.

It was like 500 fragments of conversations somehow soldered together. I know that Christopher Nolan was seeking an innovative style - and in part - it worked; but still - even though I was familiar with Oppenheimer's life - I found the final product dysfunctional and confusing (like having dozens of jigsaw pieces thrown randomly at you – and expecting you to put them together – even though you’re blindfolded). It needed some kind of a narrative voice giving background to an unknowing audience as to what was going on throughout the film (perhaps, like a witness on a witness stand - or a diarist looking back and recalling the events of the time). They couldn't get enough of it, hyping up how it was brilliant, poignant, a master of modern day cinema. I bought into the hype, went out to watch it over the weekend, and ugh was it a freaking pile of pretentious poop.

Nolan freaking LOOOOOVES to edit his movies nonchronologically for some reason. There were 3-4 different timelines, locations, and narratives taking place at the same time throughout the movie, it was nauseating. One minute you're in the present time with Oppenheimer working at his nice office and exposition dumping, them BOOM next minute you're back at the trial with Oppenheimer being interrogated, then POW suddenly it's young Oppenheimer going to school or going to communist parties, then BAM it's back to Strauss during his senate hearing, then ZOOM suddenly they're now in the New Mexico desert riding on horses. Just because something is told out of order and in a purposefully confusing way DOES NOT MAKE IT GOOD. In fact it's the exact opposite, IT MAKES IT BAD. It's a cheap lazy way to try to get your audience to figure out the movie by purposefully making it more harder to follow.

And what was up with the constant EXPLOSIONS?! Five minutes of people talking and exposition dumping then KABOOOOM HUGE FIREBALL. Then it's quiet again for two minutes with more people talking and exposition dumping then BOOMBOOMBOOM PEOPLE STOMPING THEIR FEET LOUDLY.

And holy hell was this movie pretentious as crap! I think I counted at least 5 different scenes were people were LOUDLY CHEERING AND SCREAMING "OPPIE! OPPIE! OPPIE!" They made Oppenheimer seem brilliant - no, they made him seem like a genius - NO, at one point he's literally proclaimed a effing PROPHET and he can do no wrong! Oppenheimer is so effing OP he can walk up to Albert effing Einstein, whisper into his ear, and make Einstein RAGE QUIT and STOMP OFF in defeat LOL.

But worst of all! WORST OF ALL! Was the effing PACING of the movie! My god this movie never had a scene last longer than 30-60 seconds, considering this movie is 180 minutes long that's gotta be HUNDREDS OF SCENES in this movie alone! What a terrible effing screen play! The movie didn't even seem like a movie, it was 90% exposition dump, I wanted to see them BUILDING THE ATOMIC BOMB, I wanted to see LOS ALAMOS and the MANHATTEN PROJECT with scientists theorizing and testing and planning... but none of that happens until 90 minutes into the movie and YOU ONLY GET TO SEE 30 SECOND CLIPS OF ANY OF THAT. Instead you get left with a THREE HOUR LONG MOVIE TRAILER. With 30-60 clips throughout the entire runtime, one liners everywhere that are supposed to be deep and poignant but since there's no time to let any of it soak or marinate it just feels so SHALLOW and EMPTY.

I rate it a 6/10, not a bad movie by any stretch, but nowhere near as good as Nolan's previous works. I actually fell asleep during the movie until LOUD EXPLOSIONS made me jump back up, maybe that's why Nolan edited so many explosions in the movie, to keep people from falling asleep LOL.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. These reviews must be paid for. While the movie did have great acting, it certainly did not make up for the fact that it was incredibly tedious and boring.

I love quantum physics and was expecting an interesting delve into the science behind the creation of nuclear weapons, instead we received an extremely long, drawn out political biopic. Other than Cilian Murphy's fantastic job of portraying Oppenheimer, none of the characters were interesting in the slightest. I had no emotional investment whatsoever.

After the build up to the trinity event, the payoff was abysmal. The one single shot of a nuclear explosion didn't look anything like an actual nuclear explosion, and they completely glossed over the events of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. The last 45 minutes of the movie could best be described as torture.

I really wondered how they were going to make a 3 hour film on Oppenheimer interesting, turns out: they didn't. Probably the most tedious movie I've ever had to sit through.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Oh, where do I even begin with this disaster of a movie? "Oppenheimer," directed by Christopher Nolan, is an absolute train wreck that left me questioning why I wasted my time and money on this incomprehensible mess.

First and foremost, the pacing of the film is abysmal. It drags on and on, making a snail's pace look like a Formula 1 race. The excruciatingly slow storytelling is accompanied by a convoluted and disjointed plot that jumps all over the place without any semblance of coherence. I felt like I was watching a collection of random scenes clumsily stitched together rather than a well-crafted narrative.

Let's talk about the characters. They are as lifeless as a pile of rocks. There is absolutely no depth or development to any of them. Despite having talented actors on board, the script fails to give them anything meaningful to work with. It's as if Nolan expected the audience to be mind readers and understand the characters' motivations and emotions without any proper exploration.

And don't even get me started on the dialogue. It's filled with pretentious, pseudo-intellectual jargon that seems to be Nolan's attempt at profundity but ends up being laughably cringe-worthy. I half expected the characters to break into soliloquies about the meaning of life while staring at the sky in slow-motion.

The film's visual effects are perhaps the only saving grace, but even they can't make up for the sheer boredom induced by the rest of the movie. It's almost like Nolan was so focused on creating visually stunning scenes that he forgot to care about telling a compelling story.

Furthermore, the historical inaccuracies in "Oppenheimer" are unforgivable. Nolan takes significant liberties with the events surrounding the development of the atomic bomb and the life of J. Robert Oppenheimer. Instead of honoring the real-life complexities and nuances of the subject matter, the movie twists facts to fit its own narrative, which only serves to further insult the intelligence of the audience.

In conclusion, "Oppenheimer" is an overindulgent, self-important mess that fails to deliver on any level. It's a baffling combination of boring storytelling, lifeless characters, and historical revisionism. Save yourself the agony and steer clear of this cinematic disaster. Christopher Nolan should seriously consider taking a break and reevaluating his approach to filmmaking after this debacle.

Too slow, laborious and painfully drawn out. I was even disappointed with the big moment. There were some interesting edits and sequences, but could be a hell of a lot shorter and a much cleaner edit is needed.

Do yourself a favor and skip this BORING and OVERLONG movie that takes itself way too seriously (much like the director himself!) Also not to spoil anything but I find it hard to believe the Albert Einstein estate agreed to have his likeness used in a movie that is the antithesis of everything he stood for. Expand

The script is awful and overall plot confused and has no real direction, message or deliverance. I caught myself looking at the clock several times, you could easily cut 2/3 of this movie and probably make a few adjustments to get a better movie across. I am quite confused what this movie, that is Nolan, is trying to tell us? To try and make us feel sorry for the person who created the atomic bomb? I’m no Greenpeace snowflake, but that’s like trying to create sympathy for the devil. It’s impossible and why even try? Didn’t think that Nolan had to retort to buying up-votes on IMDB/Metacritic, certainly not for his
Previous work, but this is extremely overrated.

I'd say that it is 10% about the making of the bomb and 90% about a political witch hunt/ administrative process dealing with his security clearance decades later. Who cares if an elderly man keeps his security clearance? He developed the bomb that killed hundreds of thousands of people and perhaps ended WWII. By focusing so much on his security clearance and what that might do for his finances and the tail end of his career, it severely minimizes the important part- the bomb. And the hearing dragged on and on and on. The rest of the movie was a combination of snappy CSI style clever dialogue chess and quick cuts with an overbearing soundtrack. It felt like a never ending montage. I have a physics major and I knew the general story as I'm a history buff. I should have been the target audience for this. I've give it a 3/10. Expand
