I love movies, and I liked this movie. It is a romantic comedy, and the most important thing is whether the leading man and leading lady work; y'know, the chemistry thing. Well they work o.k. Katherine Heigl is beautiful, and charming, and this role is a little grittier than some of her previous work. And honestly, she looks soooo much better with her dark hair. She looks so more real and natural then when she is blonde. (Sorry, just a prejudice of mine-nothing wrong with real blondes, just fake ones.)
The leading man did not match pretty Kate in charm, and attractiveness (a not so stunning young Mel Gibson lookalike) but their relationship was at least plausible. I liked the realism, and grittiness of the plot; unusually hard-nosed for a romantic comedy, and I liked the blue collar east coast feel. I only give this a 7 (though sweet Kate gets a 10) because the production values were frugal, and the dialog was not as sharp and witty as the plot required. Still, my sweetheart and I had an enjoyable evening...watching the movie.

Thankfully, the reviews proved to be wrong. One for the Money IS exactly what I hoped for over the years ever since I got hooked on the Stephanie Plum series. When I first heard the casting decisions, I was worried. No need to stress. Heigl nails the role of Stephanie. Several reviewers I've read said the movie was unbelievable. I had no problem suspending my disbelief. If you like the books, go see the movie. You won't be sorry. Expand

A very enjoyable way to spend a hour and a half. Now just because the actors are not who you had pictured in your mind is a normal reaction. My wife and I have read all the books including between the numbers books and enjoyed the movie a lot , it was fun talking about how the actors fit what we had pictured them in our minds but we didn't let that cloud our judgement of the movie. We both hope that they come out with a series of movies because they will get better as the characters settle in and we get to see grandma burn down the funeral home try and get a peek at who ever is laid out. I really don't understand the harsh reviews for this movie. Saw the
movie last night with my best friend and we had a blast!

The characters thrown in the movie are colorful and lively, there is
plot which seems to be a rarity in movies lately (which may not be
terribly deep; however, it is entertaining and fun), there is story
with enough background to ensure no one is confused but not bored with
it, you learn a few fun things through the movie that you may not have
known before, there is enough clean sexual fun without showing
exploiting graphic nudity, and I really enjoyed the family dynamics the
main character has to endure.

Was the movie too short and a bit over simplified? A bit. However, with
current audience attention spans I've observed, I definitely believe
the movie found a great balance between it all.

Hope you enjoyed it as much as we did.

This is why I had reviewers. They have no idea what "we" want to see. I read the book and this movie was fun to watch and held my interest. I'm glad I went, regardless of what the worthless reviewers have to say

ONE FOR THE MONEY is awful in every possible way. It is a strong contender for my award as worst film of the year and we're still in January. Generally, I like Katherine Heigl but she is woefully miscast and so poorly directed that she seems to have wandered onto the wrong set . And she looks terrible, is poorly photographed ...and THAT HAIR! This is the first time I've been aware of Jason O'Mara and feel he has untapped potential for parts suited to Gerard Butler or Clive Owen. Director Julie Ann Robinson has some decent television directing credits which surprises me based on the evidence here. And...I hated the musical scoring blamed on Deborah Lurie. There are eight credited producers. They should all be ashamed of themselves for allowing this piece of crap to escape the movie theatres.

Based on reviews, I expected to be gouging my eyes out within the first 10 minutes (like I do w/ the Twilight flicks I've been forced to watch). I won't be watching it a 2nd time, and really thinking I'll suggest she sees any sequels with friends rather than her husband. That said, this wasn't nearly as awful as some of the reviews would have you believe. It's predictable, not sure how to balance the reality of the story with the desire to be lighthearted and fun. Maybe my tolerance is due to the fact that my wife has been watching Twilight movies on an endless loop lately, and this wasn't as bad as those films. But for what this was intended to be, I don't think it was the worst way to spend 90 minutes. Expand

Awful disgusting mess of a movie. Heigl's portrayal of a hard nosed Jersey girl is laughable. Heigl may be calling the writers of Grey's Anatomy to join the series again after this flop.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I enjoyed the 1st minute of the film, and there were 1 or 2 good jokes, ok, but most of them weren't discreet enough, they were just pushed in your face. After 3 min, the main thing starts, no exposition. But the problem is: the main thing is boring as hell. SHe just goes around, speaks with some people, then makes an annoying statement, and this repeats till the end. Ramirez's character or whatever was his name is just not needed. The same things repeat: she runs, almost gets killed, then kisses the ex. Wasn't Stephanie so annoying, this film would be much better. Go watch the something else. Expand

This is a profoundly bad movie that reinforces negative stereotypes and is filled with nonsensical moments (handcuffed to a spring-loaded shower curtain requires a key to handcuffs(?). This movie is not worth seeing in person--save your money!...

Fast paced, funny, well cast.. I'd vote 15 if I could, perhaps the critics are used to being paid off and the folks behind this failed to pay the toll. Interesting that last I looked it was #3 in $ at the box office, while running single digits in critical reviews. Maybe we need some critics with their finger on the pulse of movie viewers. Based on the novel by Janet Evanovich, One For The Money attempts to be a romantic comedy with action and for popcorn fare, well, director Julie Anne Robinson does fine. Katherine Heigl, Daniel Sunjata and Joe Morelli ar fun to watch.

It is unfunny throughout, save for the brief appearance of Leonardo Nam as a zany stoner, and Heigl tries to put on a Brooklyn accent that seems to disappear and reappear at random. The characters, apparently drawn from a popular series of crime novels, are one dimensional and if you aren't already familiar with them (I wasn't) they might come off as stock characters. Ultimately, it seems odd that all of the glitter and polish of mainstream releases could produce something so ordinary and unappealing, even at this level. One for the Money has nothing going for it. It's just another Heigl vehicle, but even those other lackluster films have something distinctive about them. Expand

I've never been a big fan of movie adaptions of books, I often find that the directors add scenes or take out important scenes and the characters are never right. But I loved this adaption! And so have all of my friends and family.

I have been a fan of the books for as long as I can remember and I felt that this movie did them justice. Almost everything that was in the movie was in the book in some form, though a few scenes were mashed up. All the important ones were (the turkey scene and the shower scene being the most important) very well done and very close to the book. The dialogue was very well done and the plot moved along at a very good pace, it didn't get stuck on the relationship between Stephanie and Morelli.

As for casting Heigl may not have been my first choice for Stephanie, but I don't think anyone else would have done better. O'Mara (Morelli) and Sunjata (Ranger) were not quite right for there parts, but each was very convincing. Debbie Reynolds as Grandma Muzer was wonderful, and she was quite convincing. The best though was Sherri Shepherd as Lula, while all the rest were as close as you can get, she was exactly how I always pictured Lula.

If you are undecided on whether to watch this movie, I say go for it. It is one of my favourites and will always be.
