This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Here it comes... So we have pro-Russian propaganda and same way we have anti-Russian propaganda. I take this really like a movie from Hollywood studios with signature "based true events". It´s so perfectly made that it more looks like a movie than some kind of pure document of independent press. To the next, when I saw the logo of coproduction with CNN, it gave me from the beginning an impulse to take this with some kind of reserve in my mind. All in one, it´s just next movie based on actual events about new cold war with Russia. To add, I don´t see any comment about negative review, so you Metacritic only filter, what is suitable within the point of view which is right about you. Fuc*ing policy, so you stand the regime when we can´t openly say what we think, it´s strange the document exactly fight against that... funny. Expand

Navalny is what Russia needs now, true freedom and democracy. He carries the flame and hope of the people to break free from the chains of Putin's kleptocracy.

Doing so when it involves those at the highest level of power can be revolutionary, making it possible to reform an existing regime. But exposing a plot by ruthless autocrats to clandestinely murder the competition in a supposedly fair election is downright appalling. Such is the case in director Daniel Roher's damning HBO documentary chronicling the efforts of a team of intrepid investigators who surreptitiously collect evidence of a calculated assassination attempt sanctioned by Russian President Vladimir Putin against opposition candidate Alexei Navalny. When the anti-corruption activist and presidential contender fell ill and nearly died from an attempted poisoning using the Novichok nerve agent, foul play by those at the highest levels of Russian politics was strongly suspected, but definitively proving it was another matter. However, while Navalny recovered in Germany, he began diligently looking into the matter with the assistance of a team of journalists and other colleagues. What they found was truly disturbing, but catching the culprits red-handed with bona fide proof was comparably astounding, setting off an international firestorm in advance of Navalny's much anticipated, potentially dangerous return home to Russia. The filmmaker captures all of this intrigue as it happens, making for a captivating watch, one that should trouble -- and rouse -- anyone concerned about fairness, justice and common human dignity. It's a work that simultaneously inspires and infuriates and, regrettably, shows just how much more work we have ahead of us as a species to address fundamental issues that shouldn't even require a second thought. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. It's all the more poignant and urgent given Navalny's current predicament. Presented here is a clear eyed view of a true and relatable hero unmasking a murderous regime that's been seeking to hide in plain sight behind state sponsored fake news. If Navalny's efforts partially unmasked that regime's evil intent then the current Ukraine war has surely let the world now see the real monster behind it. I'm guessing that the negative user reviews are being generated from Russian state propaganda agencies like Internet Research Agency so all the more reason to get out and see this - don't let the trolls win. 'Navalny' is an essential testimony of how freedom of speech is the most important ingredient of democracy. Unexpectedly, this documentary is hilarious, portraying the top figure in the Russian opposition in a light-hearted way. Daniel Roher, of course, barely touches the controversial links between Alexei Navalny and the far right, but at least it doesn't shy away from addressing it. In the end, 'Navalny' is a good piece of filmmaking that showcases the power of real journalism and the sparkle that could change an entire country. Expand

Only after watching this documentary can you realise how dangerous Putin really is and what he will do to stay in power.

I don't know how Navalny goes on and on. After all the challenges, he keeps going and tries to fight against the regime. At the end it is sad to see how the wife of Nawalny reacts to everything, how people support Nawalny so that finally there is democracy again in Russia. I now have a great respect for Nawalny and his actions. I wish that he achieves his goal.

In my opinion, everyone should watch this documentary.

And it's not that I question what has happened to him, far from it, but there is more material missing than what he exposes, especially if it is to show the world what a corrupt monster he says Russia is.
