Definitely not as bad as the critics make it out to be, but National Treasure's storyline is very preposterous. The acting is O.K., and I'd say so is the movie. The history is terrible, however.

I love Nicholas Cage in this movie, it's a very clever and fun movie and I'd even say it's an interesting movie for the most part but the biggest negative I've got with this movie would have to be the plot. There's no doubt that it is a fun and entertaining movie so critics hating on this movie so severely kind of baffles me. My only gripe would be that it ran 20 minutes too long. "National Treasure" is the sort of movie that when you're watching it, you think it's great, but after watching it and you think it through, it's just kinda silly. You'll find many of the historical contents ridiculously inaccurate. This film is so much fun! I love History and the film is pretty exciting, and honestly, I can't complain with that. The script and acting is average, but the movie is fun and the characters are likable.

National Treasure fails to strike gold.
With a very interesting and well thought out premise, National Treasure exceeds to entertain and fails royally to actually explain the motives and decisions of many of the characters.

I remember watching it the day before winter break in History class. At the time, I found it a good movie. Reviewing the movie outside of history class? Not so great. Reviewing the movie outside of history class? Not so great. The plot can barely be called a plot, but the actors/actresses try their best. Overall, the movie is a "meh", although it makes a nice boredom breaker.

If you are not looking to its improbable plot or you are not trying to find all the flaws this movie conceives, "National Treasure" is quite a fun ride for you. However, the hammy dialogue and complicated narrative still does not convince me.

It has a basic "Find the treasure" storyline, though some questionable things such as many of the group turning AGAINST them for some odd and subtle reason and BrownThe critics **** this up big time. Compared to what the critics and users are thinking, National Treasure isn't really national at all. A more accurate title for this movie would be, "Cheesy Treasure". National Treasure is a typical adventure film. There is a good cast, a good plot tie and a delusional plot. National Treasure has interesting action scenes, but most of them are not impressive. This film looks like the alternative and geek version of any Indiana Jones movie, combining an exciting adventure with an absurd story based on a false historical premise: the passage of the famous "treasure of the Knights Templar" toThis film looks like the alternative and geek version of any Indiana Jones movie, combining an exciting adventure with an absurd story based on a false historical premise: the passage of the famous "treasure of the Knights Templar" to American soil, where it was hidden by Masons, allegedly heirs of the Templars traditions and secrets. It's true that the Templars were extinguished by the Papacy at the request of the French king Philip the Fair, who arrested and killed several former knights in order to confiscate the assets of that religious order. It's also a fact that it was a very rich order, with lands, castles and armies. But to believe that these knights ever set foot in America or had secrets to leave the Masons is insane. If their intention was to conceal something or to pass some knowledge, they would probably took the most viable option: Portugal, where King Denis asked the Pope to maintain the Templars, as it was convenient to the kingdom, thus arising the Order of Christ, which survived in Portugal until modern times. There was no reason to go to America, and Masons still didn't exist. Well, let's talk about the movie now...

The movie is good, it entertains the audience well, especially if we're not too attentive to the dozens of historical mistakes made by the plot, quite unrealistic. The special effects are very good and the film is visually pleasing. The characters, however, lack personality and the actors are never able to give that. Nicholas Cage is rather unconvincing in the role, never seeming to be truly an academic nor an adventurer. The romantic subplot between him and Diane Kruger is highly predictable, though it looks good in this kind of movie. In short, it's a good movie to entertain, but there's a danger that some people will think they have a true historical basis and that makes it dangerous.… Expand

It's not that National Treasure is awful but it isn't good also, it has a lot of cliches but is so entertaining to see Nicolas Cage and Sean Bean do things that even when they're in a long exposition scene you're still entertained.
