This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Mr Peabody (or if you’re a young Sherman, Peababba) and Sherman is an amazing animation directed by Rob Minkoff. It’s about an intelligent dog that adopts a boy and travels not only the world together, but travel in time to different historical eras like Egypt. Sherman goes to school for the first time and gets into a fight with a girl called Penny. Sherman bites her in defence and Penny and her parents are forced to Mr. Peabody's place to get along and see if he has a suitable environment for Sherman.
The main story begins when Sherman shows Penny the Way Back. They go to Egypt and Penny stays there. So Mr Peabody is forced to go there to retrieve Penny.
Peabody and Sherman retrieve Penny and they are forced to Florence, Italy as the Way Back runs out of power. They go to Leonardo for help and send them on their way. They then encounter a black hole and are forced into the Trojan War. After an attempt to save Penny, Peabody goes over a cliff with the wooden Trojan. Sherman and Penny think Mr. Peabody dies so they continue back to present time; however they create a hole in time. As there are doubles of Sherman, Mr. Peabody finds his own way back (He didn't die). So time forces both of the Sherman's together and the Peabody's. The sky opens up and all of the historical people (Abraham Lincoln, Einstein and more). By travelling so fast into the past, they finally reset the present and everything goes back to normal.
This animation is great for both kids and adults. And the huge amount of puns make this animation very enjoyable to watch and the historical moments that kids may not be able to relate to make it very enjoyable for the adults as well. It is very entertaining and worth the money to buy. To me it’s one of those movies that can be watched over and over again. Sure the puns and jokes may be old, however they were used wisely and at the right time. Minkoff does use well known historical events, however movies aren't always meant for educational purposes, nor detailed events, however during this film it would give children knowledge of certain events that have happened in our past. And for a child, all they really need to know is the basics and that it actually happened, which Minkoff has done with creativity and in an entertaining way. I've always enjoyed watching animations, and when i watched this one it become my favourite. The movie focused on the father-son relationship between Peabody and Sherman, and this was consistent throughout the film. It showed the relationship difficulties throughout, which gave some viewers something to relate to. In a way it was a bit like Brave in the sense of relationships of the characters, how Merida and her mother had different opinions and difficulties to overcome. All round this was a very entertaining movie and every minute was enjoyable.

After the success of the Lego movie i didn't think anything could come close to toppling it. While Mr.Peabody and Sherman is nowhere near as good as the Lego movie the movie is smart funny a lot of fun and fast paced. Ty Burrel makes a excellent Mr.Peabody and Max Charles makes a wonderful Sherman. They take a lot of the dialogue from the original TV show while still making this movie there own. The girl who voiced penny Ariel winter also did a great job. There are a few childish jokes here and there that this movie could have done without and penny went from a bully to no more than a damsel in distress. I wish The movie makers made her more of a strong willed character than a damsel in distress. Despite this Mr.Peabody and Sherman is a wonderful well made kids movie that is different than what Hollywood is offering and trust me you will have a great time Expand

There was a bit of the expected gross out humor / stupid childish stuff, but they didn't let it overwhelm the movie.

Mr. Peabody is a genuinely intelligent character and has genuinely intelligent dialogue. They didn't just fake it, they actually put some effort into it. That alone is worth the price of admission, as it is so different from everything else coming out of Hollywood today

The beginning of the movie starts in a way familiar to fans of the show. Peabody and Sherman go back in time and have a little adventure after a spunky introduction. They get into a bind, Peabody solves it with his super smarts, and then it ends with a history pun. It's very fast paced and doesn't waste your time.

After that, they introduce a new emotional dynamic to their relationship, which I found genuinely touching. They interweave this with more time-travel shennanigans with great results

Haven't had this much fun at a movie in a while

Many reviewers criticized the this movie produced by Dream Works animation. As far as I'm concerned, Mr.Peabody and Sherman is a great movie despite its predictable plot and corny jokes. I like how the protagonists, Peabody and Sherman, are portrayed through emotions and speech. Peabody is a smart guy and I love the way he talks about things that only smart people will really understand. The idea of using time travelling and paradoxes as the backbone of a plot is risky, but in this case I feel it worked. The plot did baffle me, but I guess it does not really matter. In conclusion:
Graphics: 2.5/2.5
Plot: 2/2.5
Characters: 2.5/2.5
Humour: 1.5/2.5
Therefore I will give it a total score of 8.5 out of 10. When rounded off, it gives me a 9.

The original animated TV show is already a pretty subversive treat. Originally“Mr. Peabody & Sherman” is the latest postmodern revamp of a modern classic that delves deep into the psyches of characters that were never meant to be analyzed. The original animated TV show is already a pretty subversive treat. Originally broadcast from 1959 to 1964, it simply presents the adventures of a dog and his boy without question. This latest mashup of old and new, from DreamWorks, sets out to answer all those questions about this most unusual dog and boy relationship and turns out to be one sharp and funny movie.

It could have been enough to just have Mr. Peabody and Sherman travel back in time and get into trouble, and there is plenty of that to be found here. What is such a nice surprise is how well this movie stirs the emotions.

We’ve known CGI animation is up to the task since such hits as Pixar’s “Toy Store” and DreamWorks’ “Shrek.” DreamWorks taps into that uplifting magic here. And it goes one step further with this ambitious reworking of vintage TV. There’s such a long history of classic TV reboots that it’s become its own genre with clunkers like “The Flintstones” to more refined attempts like “Bewitched.” It became clear somewhere down the line that a earnest attempt to simply retell a classic would likely never quite work. An early uneven attempt at this is 1983′s “Twilight Zone: The Movie.” We have come a long way since then.

To tackle a classic like “Mr. Peabody & Sherman” must have given some people pause. An exercise in excess can’t be obvious about its excess like, say, “Speed Racer.” The way to success hinges on the writing. You can thank the screenplay by Craig Wright for that. It’s tricky but it is possible to invest a sophisticated level of character development and psychology upon two characters previously known to frolick within the confines of a vintage animated TV series. That original was exceptional so that helps. What Wright does is build upon what is special about the two characters. Mr. Peabody is interesting for far more reasons than just being a supersmart dog. He also happens to struggle with expressing his emotions. Sherman is more than just a cute cuddly kid. He has issues about having a dog for a parent.

Just when you thought that rebooting vintage TV had run its course, this movie has the spark of originality. Works of classic literature or contemporary fiction just don’t cut it like they once did. It was inevitable. The lure of pop culture is too strong. But it seems that a simple dumb down won’t cut it either. Nope, we’ve come to expect subtext and metatext. “Mr. Peabody & Sherman” proves once again that quality matters and this sort of thing can be far more than a curious spectacle.

Those extra touches, that market research can’t quite calculate, do matter and are appreciated. Just like the classic Bugs Bunny cartoons, you’ll find here a treasure trove of observations and references that will appeal to an adult’s taste. They’re all quite upbeat and funny with one exception. There’s one that takes a serious turn and strikes a chord. At a point in the movie that allows for an extended look at Mr. Peabody and Sherman growing up, the song in the background is John Lennon’s “Beautiful Boy.” It will be pleasant to a youngster’s ear and, in it’s own odd and beautiful way, will tug at an adult’s heart.

In their 30 movies this is only the second movieI liked last two movies from DreamWorks Animations. Besides Disney and Pixer I kind of like this production house because the first ever 3D animation I ever saw was 'Antz', when I was a child. In their 30 movies this is only the second movie based on sci-fi after 'Megamind'. I was familiar with 'Mr. Peabody and Sherman' before, but kind of inconsistent in watching them when it was aired on television. So I expected nothing, but enjoyed watching this movie. A matured story, the cute characters and a pleasant animation, overall an excellent update from the cartoon to the 3D characters. When Disney did same for Micky family I was disappointed a lot. You know 2D animations are kind of jerky animations and that is a different kind of pleasure, but this one was so smooth, I loved it.

Mr. Peabody had a regret that he was not adopted when he was a puppy. Now he's an adult dog, also a smart and intelligent. Decides to adopt a boy and names him Sherman. He teaches everything that he knows and tours with him to the different eras for the educational purpose through his invention WABAC, a time-machine. One day in the school Sherman gets humiliated for saying the truth and a big trouble knocks the Mr. Peabody's door. To make everything right a first step had been taken, but accidentally an adventure begins through times and space. A trouble after another follows them and what they need is one solution that can solve all their problems is the rest of the story.

‘‘Every dog should have a boy!’’

If you think it's for kids only referring the 60s animated television series, definitely you are wrong. When you see the characters anyone can feel that way, but once you watch the movie your perspective will change. Many things were taken straight from the series like time travelling adventures. In fact, to say adults can understand the story fully than children. It meets lots of historical events in the original timeline, but the fun part was to see them in an animation. A coming-of-age theme in animation, but was told in a fun adventure. It just fulfilled me of watching all the episodes of the original classic animation short, at a time. Like I said young kids can't get what's happening, but can have fun which delivered consistently throughout with the nice dialogues and locations. I hope they are going to announce a sequel, otherwise it will be a disappointment to know there will be no follow-up for a cute little movie.

It's a bit of a shame, really. "Mr. Peabody & Sherman" is a sweet movie, funny and essentially decent. But its failure to avoid the imaginative failures and regressive messages that plague so many other feature-length cartoons make it more disappointing, somehow, than more crass, mechanical film might have been. The eccentric touches give you hope for the movie. The movie dashes them. Expand

Adults will probably benefit from the sophisticated screenplay which is steeped in historical and cinematic references, but these will probably go over the heads of the average 20 year old let alone kids under 10. Children will be able to appreciate and enjoy the archaic action and cute characters, and also be more forgiving of all the nonsense taking place in the final 20 minutes. The animation is everything we have come to expect, and Florence looks almost as lovely here as it did in 'A Room with a View'. I am quite young at heart. But this movie isn’t really a good example why I am young at heart.

The voice acting in this movie are excellent especially Ty Burrell’s performance as Mr. Peabody. He is my favorite in the movie and I really forgot that he voiced a talking genius dog.

The script is great. The dialogues are not cheesy for an animated movie for kids and the way how the plot flows is great.

The humor of this movie is okay at least. Kids will appreciate the humor more than the adults and this is mainly the reason why I wouldn’t call this as one of my favorite animated movies.

My drawback of this movie was the time traveling concept. The concept made me watch this movie and I was let down by how simplistic the concept is. If you’re going to make a movie with a time traveling concept, it should be amazing.

The best part of this movie was the animation. It’s really eye-candy and beautiful for a DreamWorks Animated movie. Not the best from them but just beautiful enough.

Overall, this movie will entertain kids more than adults however it will not cringe you as this movie is also enjoyable for adults. If you’re a parent, you will not have a bitter taste of watching this movie with your children.

A surprisingly great film that surpassed all of my low expectations. This movie is just as good for adults as it is for kids...which is fantastic. The funny dialogue and interesting story will make you want to see it again!

Rob Minkoff’s latest family-friendly 3-D animated film, Mr. Peabody & Sherman, provides ample entertainment, but never feels creative or original. Minkoff simply proves he can effectively stitch together elements of past successful animated films to create a somewhat coherent product. The younger members of the audience won’t mind in the least, but those with an always-active mind will spend the entire hour and a half searching for a glimpse of freshness in a mundane field of the same-old.
First off, Mr. Peabody broke one of the cardinal rules of modern filmmaking: if you are going to play with time, you better know what you are doing. Evidently, Minkoff uses time travel only to exploit the entertaining and over-caricaturized eras of popular history, and neither to properly educate nor to create a functional storyline. If you’re a stickler for factual accuracy, please don’t go to this film. Writer Craig Wright collects random tidbits from fifth grade history textbooks and blows then so far out of proportion, actual history has become unrecognizable. An example of this is where Marie Antoinette is depicted singularly as a radical aristocrat with an eating disorder, simply because of the famous expression, “Let them eat cake” (which we all know by now she never uttered). Basically, if you’re taking a child to this film with the hopes that he’ll learn more about history, you’ll be greatly disappointed.
In addition to a basic knowledge of history, subtlety is not one of Minkoff’s strong suits either. I can’t blame him for following a formula for an animated film – I mean, it is Dreamworks after all. However, he doesn’t simply follow the formula; he beats you over the head with it. From the ridiculously persistent antagonist, to the preposterously fast character transformations, to the multiple fake-deaths and the contrived sentimentalities that ensue, Mr. Peabody’s commonplace recipe shines strongly through the superfluous fluff that layers the film.
If you were planning to see Mr. Peabody to laugh with your child for an hour and a half, I’d ask you to reconsider. The jokes are cheap, old, and flatter than then characters that articulate them. I must’ve laughed four times during the film. If you were planning to see Mr. Peabody to educate your child, like I mentioned before, strongly reconsider. If you were planning to see Mr. Peabody with high expectations to be entertained with an enjoyable and thoughtful story, I’d ask you to either lower your standards or reconsider. Basically, if you wanted to go see Mr. Peabody for any reason this weekend, I implore you to reconsider.

FINAL SCORE: 35 (pretty bad ----------o----------a little disappointing)

Expand

The Animation Is Decent Not Dreamworks' Best But Not The Worst, The Story Is Okay, The Characters Some I Like (I.E Mr. Peabody, Da Vinci, And The Trojan Horse Commander Guy) Some Are OK (I.E Sherman, Penny, King Tut) And The Rest Are Underdeveloped.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Pros:(few) one funny scene I enjoyed was the Troy part
And well designed animations
Cons:(a lot) 1.to many terrible puns and jokes. 2. False names(like the Egypt god name was wrong),black holes are in space(not in time),some of historical events are not fully talked or shown about(but it's a kid movie so I give that one kinda lea way), and lastly you can't go back in time and talk to anyone or do anything without creating a paradox so at the end with the paradox was weird by Sherman going to time he already exists.

Mr. Peabody & Sherman is a fun family film, one with fun voice performances and a good heart. Its nowhere near Dreamwork's Animation best film, but it proves they still have that magic touch.

If not, Mr. Peabody is a genius inventor, who's also a dog and Sherman is his human son. They travel thru time in the WABAC machine, but things go awry when Sherman takes a trip on his own. This spunky animated adventure keeps a zippy pace and relies on fun with puns for most of the laffs. Visually, it's colorful, but none of the characters are especially clever or wacky. While there's a spirited energy and humor that appeals on an intellectual level, nothing about the film is outstanding. Expand

Perhaps kids will enjoy it though. I for one found the characters to be annoying and the sentimentality of the plot to be forced. It's good to see a kids movie that tries to teach kids some history. I just wish the whole movie was more enjoyable as a whole.

I typically enjoy animated movies for kids. Especially the ones from DreamWorks. However this one is mostly a bore. I spent the majority of the film playing on my phone. Whether or not your little ones will enjoy it or not I can't say. However I can tell you that older audiences like myself will be bored. It's a mediocre effort.

There is a clear passion behind the film as the writers struggle to make this 5-10 minute cartoon work as an 1 hour and 20 minute film. The solution was to make a mildly entertaining time travel movie similar to Back to the Future Part II full of lots of running around and crazy time travel antics that stays as true as it can to the classic cartoon. Thankfully Dreamworks doesn’t throw in their usual trade of pop culture references and the characters are at their core the characters from the film. Unfortunately, the writer’s solution to stretch the short cartoon into a feature length film that is nothing special. The story while told nicely is quite familiar with a lot of the heartfelt moments while touching cause films like Finding Nemo to come to mind, the new character Penny isn’t interesting being there to give the film somewhere to go, and the film at times, similar to Back to the Future Part II, is so caught up in the running around that it doesn’t take enough time to slow down and have heartfelt moments and the emotion core of the story pops in and out frequently taking a back seat to the action. Despite the comments I don’t hate the movie in fact I thought it was going to be atrocious and destroy a classic cartoon characters. To my surprise the film is charming with its energy, humor, and good animation. There is clear passion behind the film but this duo works better in short cartoons. Children will enjoy and it could serve as an introduction to the superior cartoon it is based off of, which parents if they haven’t seen it please show it to them. I’d probably be more annoyed if I was more attached to the original cartoon but on its own its fine the bummer just comes from knowing that the cartoon is 10x better. Nonetheless, when I look at the pop culture referencing, constantly puns, and pop songs that have dominated a lot of Dreamworks films lately its nice to have something that can make me smile every now and then.

Nonetheless, Dreamworks can make great films and this film while entertaining isn’t great but hopefully How to Train Your Dragon 2 will give Dreamworks the hit they’ve been lacking for years.

Rich Storyline and a Great Update for This 60s Character

I saw the trailers and I expected it to be more concentrated on time travel and not have much of a story line. Well there is. A fantastic one at that! "Mr. Peabody and Sherman" is a wonderful story about a dog who adopts a boy.

The film also has lots of animated things to love - like history, comedy, romance, suspense and so much more. To make it even better – characters come to live thanks to the brilliant voice-over actors such as Ty Burrel and Max Charles.

The film starts when a young puppy is growing up in different shelters. From a very early age he shows everyone how very special he is. He is intelligent, athletic and smooth. He wins many prizes, but his greatest adventure happens when he adopts a boy. Together they go through multiple adventures and troubles but able to stay together.

I love so much about this film. The film itself is fantastic! I love how they take twenty five-minute shows that had old, colored 2-D animation and turn it into modern 3D animation with the use of modern technology.

My favorite scene is when they show the story of how Mr. Peabody adopts Sherman. They show points throughout Sherman's little life of great moments, like his first step in 1709. Then it shows how he finds Sherman. That is definitely a sweet and loving part!

A passable animation. Not great but a fun watch. I briefly remember watching the cartoon segments growing up. I don't remember any of the details so I can't say how faithful it was to the original segments. Worth at least a watch.
