Alas, at least in my heart,I just know someone in the Paramount slate-planning division got/is getting fired over this, as there's no conceivable reason a franchise film of this quality should underperform this poorly at the box office. Alas, at least in my heart, Christopher McQuarrie's third crack at the "Mission Impossible" franchise is a total win for me, featuring some all-too-relevant thematics regarding the dangers of an ever-changing technopolitical landscape, as well as all the "S" tier action you've come to expect from this filmmaker's take on this legendary IP. This has also gotta be one of the best "part one" films I think I've ever seen. The narrative here, while an undeniable piece of a larger story, doesn't leave the audience feeling unrequited. To be sure, you'll definitely be left wanting more by the time the credits roll, but it's nowhere near as frustrating as — say— the endings of "Avengers: Infinity War" or "Fast X." In any event, I'm really hoping the recent comments from McQuarrie are true and that we may be in store for more of these after "Part Two." These movies are just so damn good and I don't want them to stop happening. Expand

However, it does seem to turn Ethan into a side character while elevating Grace, a female character who constantly outwits Ethan and makes him look like an idiot, and outdoes him for no reason other than achieving a higher ESG DEI score. It is explained in the film that she is just a glorified pickpocket, yet she pulls the wool over Ethan half a dozen times and Ethan inexplicably keeps coming back for more so much that it ***SPOILER*** gets an actual female who he should care about killed. If so much of the film weren't so impressive, this would destroy the film for me, entirely.

But, it also has a great concept for a plot that is executed well. I am interested to see what happens in the finale. It would have been better had this been only 1 film, but I am sure the budget ballooned so much due to Covid that a 2nd film was required to recoup costs. Another reason why it isn't rated higher.

This is an Ethan Hunt film. Don't make it about some nobody named Grace that makes Ethan turn into a moron. That definitely made people in my theater vocally groan at points. And don't put marginally funny Austin Powers car gags into a 15 minute chase seen that is already a little too long. And perfectly timed train parachutes are not appropriate for Mission Impossible. Stop trying to be a Marvel Movie with incessant jokes every 5 minutes.

Hey, Streamers!  It’s that time of year when Tom Cruise returns to theaters to save cinema.  Last year, he flew in with the fighter pilots in Top Gun: Maverick and brought people back to the theaters.  This year, Cruise brings back theHey, Streamers!  It’s that time of year when Tom Cruise returns to theaters to save cinema.  Last year, he flew in with the fighter pilots in Top Gun: Maverick and brought people back to the theaters.  This year, Cruise brings back the superspies with a new addition to the Mission: Impossible franchise, Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part 1.  He’s determined to up the ante on stunts and spectacle. Here’s whether this cliff-jumping action flick is worth the price of admission.

In Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part 1, as in every other M:I movie, Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise) and his IMF team accept an “impossible” mission to thwart an attempt by some evil entity to obtain an existentially dangerous weapon.  In this episode, that dangerous weapon is a mysterious, all-knowing AI called “the Entity.” In their quest to destroy the Entity, Ethan and his cohorts realize that successfully completing this mission may cost the lives of those closest to them. Mask-ripping, globe-hopping, and cliff-jumping, but no couch-jumping *wink* hijinks ensue.

Spoiler Alert: this movie is an absolute must-see on the big screen. Go grab your big box of popcorn and enjoy 2 and a half hours of superspy missions and increasingly insane stunts. Period.

Now that I’ve gotten that out of my system, my biggest qualm with this movie is the length. Although I was entertained throughout the entire runtime, I still can’t say that 2 and a half hours was absolutely necessary. There is one boring scene near the beginning where a bunch of side characters discuss the terrifying abilities of the AI.  This scene needs to be edited down. There is another scene later in the movie where Ethan, Luther (Ving Rhames) and Benji (Simon Pegg) explain the IMF to the new addition to the crew, Grace (Hayley Atwell), which is tedious but ultimately necessary. Nevertheless, the momentum of the movie doesn't grinds to a halt such that you’d be checking your watch.

My other minor issues are 1.) the character Hayley Atwell plays does things that make no sense. I like her as a new player in the M:I game, but she’s very frustrating throughout; 2.) the “plot” of M:I movies are so generic. Literally, every episode is the same. Formula = x villain is trying to get y weapon to destroy or take over z + Ethan and crew go all over the world to stop it. Luckily, Christopher McQuarrie, who directed this one, Fallout and Rogue Nation, and Tom Cruise have figured out practical, high-wire stunts that inject energy into each sequel. They have to exceed what they’ve done before, and they’ve succeeded in making a very entertaining action thriller. There are truly awe-inspiring stunts and spectacles done in Dead Reckoning that justify its existence as the seventh film in this 27 year old franchise.

Side Note: at one point, I was literally digging my fingernails into the armrests. Talk about thrilling!

”Dead Reckoning - Part One” has proofed McQuarrie and Cruise still have much more memorable thrilled-action sequences in their heads to pump the adrenalin of joyful intensities in cinema like no other action franchises could ever achieved!

Bela continuação, matendo alto nível da franquia, Tom Cruise continua sendo carismático ao quadrado, único problema fica por alguns momentos o filme ser esticado desnecessariamente pelo fator parte 1, mas ainda um ótimo filme de ação

Both the Venecia and the train part are amazing.

It fits right into the mold of an overly choreographed film, particularly with the dialogue, and the story, outside of the broad strokes “they are trying to save the world” is simply a mind bend. Really had no idea about what was going on in the narrative layers beneath the top line.

All that aside, it was still a fun watch, entertaining, Cruise is better now than in other MIs as far as I can compare from memory, and Hayley Atwell and Rebecca Ferguson were stunningly beautiful which was worth a couple points. Hayley's character was insufferable for a good bit for how she kept mistreating Cruise, though that's more on the writing for making Cruise out to be the worst of the worst white knights in their interactions. But she still had a good redemption and her character was very feminine which was a positive.

Pom Klementieff's character was psychotic.

All in all The movie was really entertaining, definitely worth the watch. The score is probably moreso in between a 7 or an 8 to be a toss up, but an 8 is fair enough, especially when watched in theaters.

While the complex plot may occasionally lose its footing, the breathtaking action and captivating performances more than make up for it. Fans of the series will be eagerly waiting for the next installment to complete the mission.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Solid action movie. Takes a bit too long to get going with lots and lots of exposition in the beginning. Some of the stunts that were done practical get demoted by cgi fx (they built a real train and crashed it off of a cliff but the landing looks cgi heavy).
Also there are a few plotholes concerning the ai-entity. It is presented as this omnipotent hacker, that can hack everything and even emulate voices. The solution to that is "analog radio because it is not digital and this not hackable", but i mean.. radio stations also send digital output via analog radio? Later there is a scene where Simon Peggs character uses the autopilot of his car.. which somehow is immune to getting hacked all of a sudden? Besides that it was an entertaining 150 minutes which could (should?) Have been 90-110 minutes at most. Still looking forward to part 2. Hopefully it can reach the heights that mi:6-fallout brought us

The Director only focused on the action scenes and to improve the action and thrills of audience than older parts .But Really the action scenes are mind blowing compare to older MI movies. No doubt direction was good as other Mission Impossible series .Lets see what happens in part two..Overall great Movie must watch.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Tom Cruise reprises his role as Ethan Hunt, the enigmatic and resourceful IMF agent, with the same level of commitment and charisma that has come to define the character. The film propels audiences into a web of intrigue and danger as Hunt and his team navigate a labyrinthine narrative involving rogue agents, international espionage, and a potential global threat.
In conclusion, "Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One" is a testament to the franchise's ability to reinvent itself while staying true to its core elements. With Tom Cruise's magnetic presence, breathtaking action sequences, and a narrative that keeps audiences guessing, the film stands as a commendable addition to the series. As the plot barrels forward, leaving audiences eagerly anticipating the next installment, it reaffirms the enduring appeal of the "Mission: Impossible" franchise as a staple of espionage cinema that shows no signs of slowing down.
