The first movie made by Hayao Miyazaki, makes it a must watch. Lupin is a famous thief, I have never seen another movie with the character, it plays like a really high quality tv show. Lupin is a famous thief, I have never seen another movie with the character, it plays like a really high quality tv show. What I really like about the character is that he was from a time that misogyny was romantic and chivalrous, harkens to a time when making someone else happy was a legitimate goal. Not as good as later Miyazaki (Spirited Away and Howl's Moving Castle are my favorites), but very entertaining and animated so well It does not feel dated. Another early Miyazaki but much stronger was Nausicaa of the Valley, corny name but excellent animation.… Expand

In my opinion, this is the second best Ghibli movie and the reason that the plot makes sense because Hayo didn't have any hand in it. They just made it pretty. Lupin III is a fun character and Ghibli really brought him to life in this film.In my opinion, this is the second best Ghibli movie and the reason that the plot makes sense because Hayo didn't have any hand in it. They just made it pretty. Lupin III is a fun character and Ghibli really brought him to life in this film. The plot was fun and all of the action was really excellent, the energy and springiness of the choreography was a delight to watch. Although the action was very reminiscent of other Ghibli films it felt at home in this movie's atmosphere. The neo mobster atmosphere is not new to this film, but the fusion of Japanese, Roaring 20s, and Mafia elements works. If you have enjoyed any of Ghibli's other movies or Lupin III's other adventures, check this out, its lots of fun and on Netflix.… Expand

Hayao Miyazaki‘s first animated feature shows a lot of promise. He handles the character of Lupin well and presenting a more mature version of the master thief allows us to empathise with his personality. He handles the character of Lupin well and presenting a more mature version of the master thief allows us to empathise with his personality. In this case better to stay away from the Manga Entertainment dub as while the voice cast there do a more faithful take of the characters from the comics that particular English dub loses the cynical free, spirited adventure the Streamline Pictures dub achieves so well. Lupin the Third: The Castle of Cagliostro might deviate from the tone of its source material but it remains a fun and light-hearted film someone of any age can enjoy, just don’t expect a masterpiece.… Expand
