This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Ellen Burstyn is lovely, still. And Martin Landau is still an actor of great skill ... but this film doesn't do either of them justice. First you suspend your disbelief with a plot focused on late-in-life love at first sight. THEN you're asked to buy in to a disturbing twist that makes it a whole different kind of movie. You could handle the upsetting aspects of the twist if you hadn't already stretched yourself to invest in the initial premise! I actually bought this DVD thinking it would be a nice gift for a friend, but abandoned that idea because it's too damned depressing. Expand

A great premise marred by poor execution. A notion this complex requires more foreshadowing and less sap. It's so saccharin for so long, you can't wait for the hammer to drop.
