Todd Solondz revisits some of the characters from "Happiness", probably his most successful film, but gives things a very different spin. This time, it is more a serious drama, with a lot less of the transgressive sarcasm that is Solondz's trademark. Cinematographer Lachman gives the film a richly colored, almost classy/nostalgic look, which doesn't fit the material especially well. There is some good acting by Janney, Hinds (taking over the role previously done by Dylan Baker), and Charlotte Rampling in a surprise appearance. Overall things drag - the weirdness is still there but most of the laughs are not.… Expand
