Directors Rebecca and Josh Tickell effectively convey an optimistic and easy to comprehend message on a very controversial topic. Hearing and seeing from experts and farmers how regenerative agriculture can save the earth’s topsoil has given me hope for our planet’s future. “The focus has been on fixing the air above us, but the dirt beneath our feet is just as crucial”. Woody Harrelson’s narration emotionally explains how we can make a difference in our own home by ways such as composting and having a plant-rich diet. Overall, this film has enriched my knowledge of agriculture and climate change and inspired me to start saving our planet from home. Expand

After an amazingly engrossing, uplifting, and powerful message on soil as the simple solution to the devastating issue of carbon emission, I truly felt the desire to march myself straight outside and kiss the ground. Considering the state of the world today, how despairing it can tend to be, this film is a blessing for those like myself who desire a healthy dosage of hope. Moved, inspired, and stimulated, I strongly encourage all to put aside a meager 90 minutes of your time to uncover for yourself the simple secrets to reclaiming our once lush and bountiful planet. Despite the thousands of years humans have been able to grow crops, Kiss the Ground shows we have over-industrialized the process. Spending more time protecting our crops and not the soil they grow from. We have created a dependency that, if not taken care of, can hurt us in the long run. Offering solutions as old as cultivation itself, Ray Archuleta, The Rodale Institute, and several ecological experts explain that we do not have to entirely ditch our practices; and instead incorporate more of what we left behind. See how historical and tried and true processes can revive our civilizations in Kiss the Ground. Expand

Directed by Joshua and Rebecca Tickell, Kiss the Ground rejects the common practice of making carbon and livestock the antagonist, instead showing the way that these parts of nature can work for us instead of against. Regenerative agriculture, sequestering greenhouse gases, and soil conservation are just a few of the many solutions to our world's ubiquitous problem. This theme of unity rather than divide rings true throughout the film, and it couldn't have come at a better time. I truly enjoyed this film and would highly recommend it. Expand

This documentary is unlike any other in the sense that it discusses the most important thing we need to restore before we do anything else is simply the soil. The directors Josh and Rebecca Tickell described its message by stressing the strong connection between human’s health and our planets. With the help of Woody Harrelson’s optimistic tone, these crucial solutions are not as far-fetched as we may think. It all boils down to understanding and supporting the holistic framework of Regenerative agriculture. It causes the least disruption to the soil by maximizing photosynthesis, feeding microbes, protecting topsoil, replenishing the nutrient cycle for livestock and increasing the functionality of the ecosystem as a whole. They are not only including how Regenerative ranchers rehabilitate their soil for massive amounts of land, but they also show how an average person can utilize their own garbage to help save our planet from desertification. This genius documentary turned a serious crisis into an encouraging invitation to become a part of how we will end this crisis because all humans are capable of it. The societal impact of this thought-provoking film makes it a must-see! Expand

They highlighted the direct relation between our soil, what we eat, and how it affects our lives and the environment, and the different techniques that can help improve it. Unlike any other environmental documentary streaming right now, Kiss the Ground demonstrates the importance of dietary choices, farming methods, soil usages, livestock production, and composting techniques all with the guiding voices of activists, actors, athletes, and environmental groups in the US and abroad. With a positive and upbeat energy, Kiss the Ground allows for audience autonomy after hearing what the film has to say, but does not attempt to pressure the viewers into agreeing-- it merely states facts and presents examples in order to show new sides to an ongoing issue. This is a film that promotes the idea of hope, change, growth, and regeneration. A truly remarkable documentary that should be watched around the world. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Kiss the Ground shifts the paradigm of how climate change should be viewed, offering a fresh perspective with a rational sense of hope. The directors of the documentary, Joshua and Rebecca Tickell, establish transparency with the audience as they walk you through step by step how we have gotten to the present crisis and then break down how we can easily get out of it by taking care of our soil. They go on to prove that carbon is not the bad guy and is in reality essential to rebalancing our climate, explaining how healthy soil absorbs carbon from the atmosphere and in turn grows more nutritious food. One of the most convincing examples the film provides is in China where they managed to regenerate 14,000 square miles of vegetation in the “most eroded place on Earth”. Kiss the Ground is a heartfelt wake-up call that makes us realize it’s not too late to live a happy life on a healthy planet and motivates us to take the steps in the right direction. Expand

After watching this film, I felt a rejuvenated sense of power over our earth’s dire climate crisis for the first time in years. The repeated message from Woody Harrelson, “the solution is right under our feet,” is not only catchy, but wholesome and optimistic. One scene that really had me getting emotional was seeing the change that actress Patricia Arquette helped create. After all the natural disasters that hit Haiti, the water under the soil was becoming contaminated. This is not a problem that is exclusive to Haiti, but according to the documentary, 2.5 billion people around the world don’t have sanitation. She taught communities in Haiti and Uganda how to create compostable toilets. This humanitarian act dually helps the planet and reduces disease in these communities. The healing nature of this documentary, towards our planet and our people, was what made this film worth the watch for me. I highly recommend watching this film and experiencing that feeling for yourself. Expand

What bigger problem is there for us to solve at this very moment than the increasing temperatures of our climate? The directors Josh and Rebecca Tickell showcase multiple people who, on a smaller scale, are helping to reclaim carbon for the atmosphere as well as, hopefully, resultant of this film’s highlighting of them, set an example. One such example that will appeal to problem solvers is a family operated farm in California where they use cows natural grazing rather than over-tilling with machines (shown to actively kill soil) and it exhibits in great detail how they set up a grid system divided by fencing in order to make sure no plot is overgrazed, and by keeping the grass the cows are fed perfectly groomed and luscious, the cows, by eating this grass, end up themselves becoming much more nutritiously valuable meat. This is just one of perhaps a dozen figures and efforts the Tickells highlight exhibiting how the ability to make a change is not above any one person’s capability. Expand

Directors Josh and Rebecca Tickell deliberately included a wide range of information and perspectives in less than 90 minutes. Impressively, this documentary is told by the directors with a storytelling tone. They want to educate but not the audience with a documentary full of just scientific facts. Of course, the story must include the trials and tribulations of the past to explain how desertification, industrialism, and war have all played a role in climate change. After the harsh truths are over, the film moves effortlessly into the innovative and successful methods being implemented to combat the issue. As an audience, we get to witness a real-life happy ending for everyday people trying to make a difference.
