I am genuinely shocked to see such low Metacritic scores for this movie. It's an utter classic. It's a gem among the hits that Robin put out in his prime.

This was totally a favorite as a kid. Does it have its problems sure, but it still is a fun watch. The CGI might not be the best, but it was the mid 90's what can you expect.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Jumanji (1995) is one of the adventure movies that people of all ages are interested in. It is about a board game and you have to play and take risks to win. This isn’t just any board game, it can appear animals stampeding and villains like Van Pelt come to kill you. Sounds exciting and hazardous, isn’t it?? The legendary Robin Williams was chosen to be Alan Parrish, the boy who sucked into the game in 1969 and returned to Earth in 1995, learning lots of jungle techniques, Bonnie Hunt was Sarah Whittle, Kirsten Dunst was Judy Shepherd and Bradley Pierce as Peter Shepherd. I don’t mind the acting much but I would give it 7/10 because there was nothing too good in there, just normal. The scenes were kinda unforgettable because of the awesome adventures and it made you experience the wonderful nature and dangerous risks of nature and I love it, but that doesn’t mean the plot is excellent, I think there must be something else so the plot deserved a 7.7/10 from me. The characters are…okay but the villain made it better but not much: he only wanted to kill one person but not all so I will give them 7.4/10. I really am impressed with the CGI effects. There were lots of animals but the really surprising thing was they didn’t use any animals, the animals in the movie were all CGI and they looked like reality (except for the monkeys, they were really terrible). The CGI would get a 8.7/10. It whuas really awesome and sometimes jaw-dropping! But I think the movie should have its background better like the sequel and sometimes adding black bars to the movie would be great as well. Many 90s movies had done that such as Braveheart, Titanic, Independence Day and more. They had some good humor and funny acts which I don’t laugh much because they used the humor too rarely. The thing I loved about the movie is the fun and exciting adventures from the board game but the thing I don’t like is the background. It’s too old-school like the 80s and 70s because this is adventure and the background should be as good as the adventures and CGI. Jumanji (1995) is not a bad movie at all. Why do critics find it unfavorable? And why did it get only 54% from Rotten Tomatoes and just 39 points from Metacritic. But I feel fair when it got a 7/10 from IMDb. I really like the movie. It’s unforgettable with the adventures and risks, also the animals made from CGI stampeding and ruining things. The board game is really unique and maybe the most iconic board game in movies. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I consider this movie as one of my all time favourite movies, and also Robin Williams as one of my favourite actors.

This is the story of Alan Parish who finds a board game, which unknown to him releases the inhabititants of the game, depending on the role of the dice.
While playing the game with a girl called Sarah from his street, they both decide to stop playing the game, but Alan un-wittingly throws the dice, and the game punishes him, by sucking him into the game with the message ' In the jungle you must wait, till the dice reads five or eight'.
Many years later Judy & Peter who have moved into Alans house, find the game, and begin playing it, and Peter eventually throws an eight, thus releasing alan from the game.
What follows in an action paced film, with great special effects.

If you want to watch a great film then get this one.

It revolves around two children named Judy and Peter Shepard as they discover an ancient board game known as Jumanji. Once they started playing it, mystical jungle animals started to appear and cause trouble to their home and the town of Brantsford. Then, they realize that they released a grown man named Alan Parrish, who has been stuck inside the game for 26 years and needs the children's help along with an old friend of his named Sarah Whittle to survive the dangers that lie within the game's magical power.

The reason that I'm reviewing this is because it has been my childhood favorite next to Disney's The Lion King ever since from the classic 1990s. If you understand this, then I'll make my opinion about it just to make it easier for you.

The only problem that I had with this movie was the slow pacing. It was very tiresome when it comes to other movies from the eighties and nineties until the climax of the movie, it started to become faster than before it gives the characters some development.

As for the rest of the movie, everything about this film blew me away with a lot of good things. The fantasy elements of the CGI animals from Industrial Light and Magic was very damn cool they just looked exactly like the book (except the snake for some reason). The actors like Robin Williams, Bonnie Hunt, Kirsten Dunst, Bradley Pierce, and the rest have done a great job at their performances and the comedy in this movie was very clever in my opinion though it didn't give me any laughs, but I think it might as well when I watch it again someday.

The action sequences were very good when it comes to other fantasy movies with fantastic action sequences. The scenes with the animals were given some screen time and they were very good, but when it comes to very frightening scenes in fantasy movies, the most scary scene of all was the lion because it was scary and too dark for the kids, but I've enjoyed it though. The script, in my opinion, was pretty decent. Not outstanding, but not that bad either. The music score from from the brilliant James Horner was thrilling, epic, and very emotional.

It told a very good story and the climax near the end of the movie was amazing. Even though it's not completely faithful to the book (unless you could check it out if you like), I've found this movie to be Joe Johnston's greatest work ever made and it's in no doubt one of the best movies, in my opinion, from the classic 1990s. A big thumbs up from me.

The film is absolutely fantastic in all departments. I will admit, there are some bits that are quite scary due to some scenes that are amazingly dark. The film does start off slowly, but when the film fast forwards to twenty six years later, the film turns into fast-paced family entertainment. Other than one or two scary scenes and the slow beginning, I could find very little wrong with Jumanji. The story is great, very intriguing and filled with humour, scares and poignancy. The cinematography and scenery are constantly breathtaking, and the special effects are extraordinary. The film is aided by a hilarious and poignant script, spirited direction, atmspheric music and the fact that it goes at a very fast pace. Even the acting was great, with Robin Williams in one of his best performances as Alan Parrish. While he is subtle in places, the director allows him to be funny, which is what he does best. Bonnie Hunt is good too and she and Williams have great chemistry, and Bradley Pierce and Kirsten Dunst are cute and lively. Plus the ending is nice and satisfying. All in all, I love this movie, even with its very minor problems, it is non-stop fast paced family entertainment. 9/10 Bethany Cox Expand

When Jumanji came out in 1995,it instantly became a piece of everyone's childhood, and most of it is due to the one and only Robin Williams (Rest In Peace).
As of today,it is that, but sometimes it's not really a board game, but a ''Bored'' game.
Joe Johnston had this concept about a magical board game with the ability to summon animals and more, and this could be a fun ride, especially if you have Robin Williams as one of the main leads,so... What almost went wrong here?
It's nothing huge by any means, but sometimes the story can drag with its execution. The 1st act is flat-out serious in certain moments, but progressing onto Act 2 and 3,it ''kind of'' gets lighthearted, especially with some funny jokes and an amazing performance by Williams. The score (by Jerry Goldsmith) tends to be a little adventurous at times, and that's a great thing, since I wanted this movie to be a fun ride.
However, there may be some cons sparkled here and there. The editing sometimes seems out of place, and this is the movie that i'll point out as an example of bad CGI,and I understand this is some 1995 stuff, but come on,there was also Apollo 13 back then.
Summing it up,Jumanji is fun for what it is. It's a ''bored'' game, sure, but you can't deny the effort Johnston put in to try and make this movie a wild ride, and that's why i'm saving this movie with a positive grade, even if,again,it could've been better.

I also wanted to catch the originalDespite the fact that I am a huge Robin Williams fan, I had never seen Jumanji, it just never appealed to me, but even since Williams' untimely passing, I've been trying to view his entire filmography. I also wanted to catch the original film, before its reputation was irreparably damaged by next years re-make, featuring the Rock, Jack Black, and Kevin Hart. The film focuses on young Alan Parrish (Robin Williams), the son of a rich industrialist, who is always in the way. One day, he finds a weird board game, buried in a construction site, and decides to play with a friend, but this is no ordinary game, and Alan becomes trapped inside for decades. It isn't until two kids, moving into a new house discover the game and start to play it, that Alan is freed. Not wanting these kids, to face the same fate he did, they track down his old friend, and decide to finish the game and put the madness to an end. I think when Robin Williams played a child or a crazy person he was at his best. Those were the time when he could really just let go, be free, and be truly hilarious. As in most films like this, Williams is the film, the rest of the cast revolves around him, and without him, this is just another kids movie. Kids love these quirky, weird films, and parents hate being dragged to them, but Williams had a way of making both sides happy and making them both want to see it, that's what Jumanji was. For all intense and purposes this is a kids movie, with Williams acting like a big kid, but making adult jokes, innuendoes, and just being that guy who made him a legend. Expand

I have never seen Jumanji before and I have been wanting to watch it for a long time. When Robin Williams died, besides tearing up a little as one of my childhood heroes growing up has died, I went to watch it and I can see why this movie is consider one of his classics despite mixed reviews from critics.

This movie had a very interesting clever concept. The plot was very really good and well-organized that this is the reason why this is now one of my favorite movies of all-time.

The cast did a good job portraying her role especially Robin Williams (of course) and Kristen Dunst! For a comedian, Robin Williams portrayed all emotions of that character very well and for a child star, Kristen Dunst is the best acted child actor in the entire movie. I am not kidding, I totally forgot that Kristen Dunst is playing a character in the movie while watching it.

One drawback about this movie is that it had terrible special effects. For a 1995 movie that has a budget of $65 million, it needed to be higher for better special effects that time. But the character development and the plot is just enough for this drawback to be ignored.

I would love to see this movie again and again. It’s just that good. And thank God no sequel!

This is theThey always said it is bad to see a remake of a movie simply because we can't stop ourselves from comparing it to the original. Every now and then however, the remake is so far off the original that this issue does not manifest. This is the case with Jumanji. The 1995 version for example, was barely two years from the release of Jurassic Park with the incredible animatronics so it's a novelty to have a rhino and other animals running through the kitchen and scenes. The original Jumanji however, is a serious movie.

If you are expecting a logical "Oh I get it" movie, this is not for you. However, if you care to keep an open mind and just go out there to have fun, this movie will serve you well.

I find myself enjoying this movie tremendously.

Meet the cast of four high school teens. The super-size "Fridge" (Ser'Darius Blain), the nerdy geek Spencer (Alex Wolff), the shy Martha (Morgan Turner) and the selfie-obsessed narcissists Bethany (Madison Iseman). They met in detention for various reasons and found an archaic Atari type video game with a cartridge Jumanji. After turning it on, they found themselves transported into the game. And this is where the fun begins.

They found themselves in the bodies of the avatars they have selected in the beginning of the game. So the nerd Spencer is Dr. Smolder Bravestone (Dwayne Johnson), the super-size Fridge in the body of Moose Finbar (Kevin Hart), the scholar is now bad ass Ruby Roundhouse (Karen Gillan), and the narcissist selfie-obsessed, ironically placed in a male body of Professor Shelly Oberon (Jack Black).

The story in a nut shell is that the group must return a stolen jewel from the eye of a large Jaguar statue while outrunning the villain army under the leadership of Hambone (Bobby Cannavale). Like I said before, expect no logic here. The group is put together with hilarity in mind as you can guess. They each packed with special skills and vulnerability and three lives which get used up every time they die. These "deaths" do generate some sweet moments and helped in the strategy of who does what

There is plenty of action and humor in the adventure of finding and returning the jewel. Somewhere enters Alex (Nick Jonas) a "guide"/pilot who was sucked into the game twenty years ago and have been trying to get home since. The humor stems from the nerd getting used to having a muscular body, the Fridge diminutive statue and Bethany's fascination with her new penis.

While there were many "why?" scenes and illogical material, if we can accept that a man can fly and zombies can walk, we should be able to accept this movie for what it is. A fun and exciting adventure with a feel good climax. I would give it a three star out of five.

Directed by Jake Kasdan (Walk Hard), Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle is a modern spin on the classic Chris Van Allsburg book.

While exploring an old mansion, the youngsters find a curious, jungle-themed game called Jumanji in the attic. When they start playing, they free Alan Parrish (Robin Williams), who's been stuck in the game's inner world for decades. If they win Jumanji, the kids can free Alan for good -- but that means braving giant bugs, ill-mannered monkeys and even stampeding rhinos! Joe Johnston's direction really helps this movie and is truly one of my favorites. Final Grade is an A+. Expand

Aunque esta película pueda parecer que ha envejecido muy mal en los efectos visuales, la calidad de imagen es muy buena incluso para ahora, y si bien la historia es algo predecible, los personajes hacen que todo vaya por el buen camino.

Having said that I thought that this was entertaining after the pointlessly slow start. It could have done with a few trims in the middle and a bit less off the end too. Enjoyable through nostalgia and fun adventure that would be improved through a child's eyes. After a wooden start this improves to be an entertaining fantasy that is a bit too long. Expand
