I consider to be a huge fan of his films, but this left me quite cold and really seem to me to be too artifitial sometimes. Probably, Emma Suarez is one of the few successes of the film. Maybe, we should start to think that the way of filming that Almodovar has, does not get older that well. Expand

This is a story of guilt, relationships and the many ways in which those who suffer loss react to it. Ably acted by Adriana Ugarte, Emma Suarez and Danie Grao, the audience is transported into the world its main character, Julieta, as she attempts to cope with the realities of life and death. I give the film 3 stars for although it may not equal the other great films of Mr. Almodovar, it reaches an extremely high level of accomplishment and gives the audience over 2 hours of extraordinary entertainment. I give the film an 8 and recommend that it be seen while it is still in general distribution. Expand

Despite fine performances, beautiful cinematography and gorgeous locations, these attributes aren't enough to overcome the inherent shortcomings that keep this offering from reaching a level it aspires to but can't possibly attain. In many ways, the film feels too much like a made-for-TV Lifetime movie only with better production values, a rather disappointing effort from a director capable of so much better. Expand

It has a pretty decent sense of mystery about it, although I admit I;m not sure I followed every plot detail. It features decent characterisation and will likely keep people guessing, in terms of what the eventual outcome will be. There is a certain sadness to it, in parts. This is a film you need to concentrate on to fully follow the ins and outs and its certainly an intriguing watch. Not a bad film, not quite what I'd consider excellent but certainly good enough to be worth a watch, I'd recommend this film. Expand

But this time lacking the humor and irony, unfortunately. It's not a typical late-era Almadovar movie, but it obviously has the syndrome of the kind of "return to self" that most older directors feel.

The movie is based on three separate stories by Alice Munro. And since the worst things happen to Julieta when she's quiet (her silence with the man on the train - suicide, slamming the door without saying anything to her husband's betrayal - storm and death, not being able to say goodbye to her daughter on vacation - losing her), the name of the movie is Munro again. It was going to be called "Silencio", which is the name of one of the stories, but the main character was then the main focus.

A remarkable point about the movie is that although the emotional intensity and drama dominate the movie, no time to cry here, which I found ingenious.

Although this movie does not appeal to those who love Almadovar with his irony humorous stories such as "Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown", it's quite successful with its scenerio and character analysis.
