Good movie! Loved every minute of it. Funny, warm, and well-written, "Juliet, Naked" is a perfect vehicle for the many talents of Ethan Hawke, Rose Byrne (didn't know she was British; is she?), and Chris O'Dowd. Good soundtrack, too. StayedGood movie! Loved every minute of it. Stayed to watch the credits so I could come home and find a few of the songs, such as "Mixed Up, Shook Up Girl," which I hadn't heard in years. Ethan Hawke sings a few of the songs, too. I knew nothing about this film before I went to see it except that it starred Ethan Hawke and Rose Byrne, two wonderful light comedy actors. And I was not disappointed. Juliet, Naked turned out to be a thoroughly entertaining, funny,I knew nothing about this film before I went to see it except that it starred Ethan Hawke and Rose Byrne, two wonderful light comedy actors. And I was not disappointed. Juliet, Naked turned out to be a thoroughly entertaining, funny, character-driven film. It is a very, very funny and very, very human romantic comedy, which I guess you would expect from a film based on a novel by Nick Hornby (author of About a Boy). But everyone deserves credit here, since a film like this is very difficult to pull off without it becoming maudlin or annoying. Lots of fun – and very truthful too.… Expand

I really enjoyed this movie! It is rather unsung, but so charming and delightful. It is about three middle aged people who can’t seem to get their act together. Rose Byrne is Annie. She has been with her boring boyfriend for 15 years, butI really enjoyed this movie! It is rather unsung, but so charming and delightful. It is about three middle aged people who can’t seem to get their act together. Rose Byrne is Annie. She has been with her boring boyfriend for 15 years, but it seems there has never been a big reason to move on. Chris O’Dowd is Duncan, the boyfriend, who is obsessed with a former rock star who disappeared years ago into obscurity. He hosts an internet band of groupies who talk and speculate endlessly upon various aspects of Trevor Crowe’s works and his personal life. Ethan Hawke is Crowe, a man who had a lot going for himself in his younger days, but gave it all up. Duncan’s latest blather about Crowe’s masterpiece of work, an album titled “Juliet, Naked,” draws much chatter from his obsessed fan friends. However, one lone voice of dissent draws an unexpected response and sets the movie’s storyline on its eventual trajectory. This movie is sweet and often laugh out loud funny. It is character driven and all three characters are beautifully played by these three wonderful actors. We all loved it and recommend it!… Expand

I think that people expecting to see big-budget Hollywood romantic comedy are going to be disappointed. This is a lighthearted and well-executed film about how three adults who are stuck in a rut learn to get on with life. “Juliet, Naked” stars Ethan Hawke, Rose Byrne and Chris Dowd in a film directed by Jesse Perez and written by his sister, Evgenia, Tamara Jenkins and Jim Taylor. With 3 co-writers you would expect that the end product would be more than a“Juliet, Naked” stars Ethan Hawke, Rose Byrne and Chris Dowd in a film directed by Jesse Perez and written by his sister, Evgenia, Tamara Jenkins and Jim Taylor. With 3 co-writers you would expect that the end product would be more than a simple film with a simple plot but, unfortunately, it is not. I was never too great a fan of Ms. Byrne, but she shows a side of her ability in the role she plays that makes her endearing and enjoyable to watch. Mr. Dowd and Mr. Hawke also add to the film but all of them cannot overcome the basic shallowness of the script and lack of the depth of the characters they portray. I give the film only a 6 notwithstanding the fine efforts of the actors in it.… Expand

Sorry but this movie is extremely annoying. First, what happened with the production values? Very poor lighting. Incredibly basic camerawork, set design, cinematography?

Throughout the movie you will see a very annoying performance by Chris O’Dowd, which is the way it is written and he acts it without a fault. Rose Byrne, playing his girlfriend of 15 years, is such a delight you wonder whatever made her stay with him.

Does anyone think of Ethane Hawke as less than a very accomplished actor? You may not remember what roles he has played and/or what movies he has been in but, no matter, you probably always enjoyed him. Here is a father of multiple children by a variety of wives who walked out on fame and now 25 years later has decided to grow up, taking responsibility for his mistakes. He is living in the garage of one of his exes determined to be a father to his 6-year-old son.

From the moment Rose meets Ethane in person after spending time exchanging emails the movie has a different, more humorous, more feeling to it. It could have been a more up to date version of Nora Ephron’s “You Got Mail” with Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan 20 years later but it is an English film which right away gives it a different beat.

Written by Evegenia Peretz, Jim Taylor and Tamara Jenkins, while directed by Jesse Peretz, don’t expect to see a naked Juliet in “Juliet, Naked” but you will see the London Eye Ferris Wheel on the Thames instead of the Empire State building on 34th street and a rom-com smartly written, produced and directed with a lot of heart towards the end. Ethan Hawke is versatile, you have to give him credit for it. And the guy is really good to make you believe most of his characters, even when he goes from heavy dramas like in the recent ''First Reformed'' to films as simple as ''TheEthan Hawke is versatile, you have to give him credit for it. And the guy is really good to make you believe most of his characters, even when he goes from heavy dramas like in the recent ''First Reformed'' to films as simple as ''The Magnificent Seven'' and ''24 Hours to Live'' to mention some of his recent ones.

Juliet, Naked enters in that category of simple films. Is the adaptation of the novel of the same name of the writer Nick Hornby that if you do not know it's also author of the novels: High Fidelity and About a Boy.
This film is a plague of conventions of the genre so I must emphasize that there are no surprises or a great story in between but its cast has enough quality to keep the film at a better level. I'm sorry but here the credit is from the actors not from the director or the writers.

It will hardly leave a memorable impression but I think it's worthy of your time. I can even recommend it as a double feature with a film I saw yesterday: '' Hearts Beat Loud ''… Expand

Juliet, Naked Peretz is clearly a fanboy for romantic films; or so it seems, gullible for cheesy emotional patches sticking it forcibly on uncalled situations. You can practically see him all giddy up forNothing Is New. Nothing Is Old.

Peretz is clearly a fanboy for romantic films; or so it seems, gullible for cheesy emotional patches sticking it forcibly on uncalled situations. You can practically see him all giddy up for these tear jerking manipulative sequences, unfortunately the audience is much smarter than to swallow up any given pill. The film is low on such crafted works, along with the adaptation and the execution. Still the film manages to keep us thoroughly entertained and the credit goes to nothing but Nick Hornby's novel. He has chosen storytelling over the characters.

And no matter how questionable or even dodgy it gets, the eerie baggage that each character comes with, is just delightful to encounter. Take the first meeting of Annie (Rose Byrne) and Tucker (Ethan Hawke) for instance. The way Hawke juggles multiple characters barging in on the screen, one after another, he handles them with equal sincerity and foliating a definite background of their storyline by ignorance and light humorous tone or even "dad" jokes. A testament of his learned skills on playing theatres for ages, Hawke casts his character as an all bets lost rockstar, that is fixing his wounds with household tapes.

Byrne as our host isn't ready to take this huge responsibility on the screen, despite of having a wider range and good amount of alone powerful screen time allotted, she never gets to you. Chris O'Dowd as the comic relief in the film works just as fine as it was expected from him. Personally, the best bit and also the surprising aspect of the film is the sweet equation between Hawke and his son, Hawke teaching him and guiding him on every step is a gift you cannot wait to have more. Juliet, Naked doesn't dare to peel off nature to that extent and neither it can, what it can and does is offer you some good time.… Expand

Sure are a lot of mixed reactions to this movie, it’s an odd mixture of romantic comedy and failed relationships set in the 60s. It’s as sad as it’s funny and hardly as family-friendly as some would have us think. It’s as sad as it’s funny and hardly as family-friendly as some would have us think. The script is peppered with a non-stop barrage of needless four letter words - while this doesn’t seem to bother some modern audiences, it still limits the movie’s audience in some situations. Maybe certain writers have forgotten the adage; “Discretion of speech is more than eloquence” (words still matter) - why limit your audience capacity for the simple sake of being trendy? Not everyone talks like hip-hop-rap artists or Hollywood production types and besides, it was less prevalent in the 60s. The script is also very much in the PC gender style of ‘let’s include everyone’ - designed to represent just about all ‘types’ – it’s long been established that attempting to please everyone is perhaps a sure formula for failure - but that’s now the new ‘normal’ for better or worse in ‘entertainment’ terms.

Largely, the whole show is carried by the natural, easy to like personality of Rose Byrne (sporting a cute ‘English’ accent) though she does get able support from her international co-stars. The youths are equally impressive especially young Azhy Robertson giving a warm, natural performance as Jackson. The soundtrack features many pop songs from the 60s, and up, to accompany certain linking scenes and while this device has also become a cliché, the selections are used to the best advantage in this case. Nice English locations keep it easy on the eye.

Certainly won’t suit everyone but has a few relatable human failings and a sprinkle of warmth (and delightful Rose Byrne!) to keep it afloat and above average of its type. Pity about all the F...s .along the way.… Expand

It's not such a deep concept as to legitimize a literary career, and the flop of "A Long Way Down" is there to prove it. Even worse if the solution to the mid-age crisis of Generation X coincides with the embourgeoisement (getting married, building a family, having children in the slavish respect for traditional values and roles) and if in the soundtrack the most famous song of the Pretenders stands out clumsily ("Brass in Pocket"). Apatow will have his faults, but already the English author follows an involution of his own.… Expand

Love the cast and the performances were great. Well, all except Ethan Hawkes singing. All kidding aside, I'm a fan of Hawke and Byrne and I'm a fan of this movie.
