I just don't understand why I don't like it that much, it's basically made for me, it has fast and sick action, good pacing, and Keanu Reeves as the lead, but I just can't bring myself to love it.

This is an amazing foundation for a 4 movie Epic and this is a really good beginning. It has some really good action.

The beginning the sitting up of the plot is really emotional and gets me and I end your head seeing the guy stand up to fight even if it was a suicide mission and maybe it was for them who attacked him and his door who were sit on the suicidal path by doing it.

Some of the best acting scenes I have seen in the movie and it is getting better and better by Every Minut Even if it sad that they are not using blood and just using cti blood.… Expand

Какой то чел все заруинил, тут и начинается собственно фильм, экшен перестрелки, дальше нас знакомят с некоторыми персонажами, друзья (даже у убийцы могут быть друзья), знакомые. Потом был момент, который когда один персонаж поступил очень глупо, и сам Джон это говорит, а потом в 3 по моему фильме, сам совершает эту глупость, забавно.
Фильм представляется собой экшен боевик, и это неплохо, сцены на высоте и все реально, на периодически напоминают, что Уик тоже человек, и получает травмы, и еще пару сцен где его чуть ли не убивают, если бы не обстоятельства.
Так же чуть тема семьи проскальзывает, ибо потерять все из-за ошибки родственника родного, прям сильно, но и ничего не делать, тоже не выход, совесть замучает, и тут можно понять и главного злодея.
Итог: Хороший боевик категории B, что я понял посмотрев фильм, что месть блюда которое подают холодным, животные невиноваты.… Expand

Who would've thought a movie about someone taking revenge for their dog, would lead to one of the best action franchises of all time?

Rewatching the first one after all this time, John Wick isn't as badass here as he is in later entries. HeWho would've thought a movie about someone taking revenge for their dog, would lead to one of the best action franchises of all time?

Rewatching the first one after all this time, John Wick isn't as badass here as he is in later entries. He survives a lot because the antagonist don't simply kill him or because his friend saves him. It also ends weirdly with a one on one fight with an old man.

Nevertheless, it is still a terrific action movie with memorable action sequences such as the house and the club shoot-out. Keanu was also a great casting choice!

This should be a template for how to make a great action movie!… Expand

Believe it or not, a lot of thought has gone into the construction of this tale of atonement; everything from setting up value, leaving key details ambiguous, and a very astute script; one which absolutely adds weight to the esteem of the titular character. “John Wick” is not your average shoot-em-up, and it’s no surprise that the series has continued success. Direction of “John Wick” has wisely been kept in the capable hands of Chad Stahelski, and its future may very well hinge on it. Producers sticking their crooked noses into development of Hollywood material is nothing new, but in the case of this series, Basil Iwanyk and his peers either know better or do so discretely. Derek Kolstad was already a successful screenwriter before this film, and his talent is notable. In the script: when a policeman comes knocking on Wick’s door and notices commotion, your typical, horrible, Hollywood screenwriter would have had the man get involved immediately. A decent writer, instead, would have had the officer simply offer help. Kolstad goes beyond any typical thinking and has the policeman recognize Wick and immediately bow out! The absolute brilliance of this take cannot be understated, as writing this simple moment cements in the viewer the depth of respect Wick has achieved in his profession. Similarly, when Aurelio, at the car shop, notices something is wrong, he doesn’t reveal the details of the issue to Iosef Tarasov; any average writer would be itching to splurge all the minutiae to the audience immediately. Kolstad, instead, withholds information, enriching his characters and deepening the value of the screenplay. A host of colorful characters, sudden twists and turns in the story and all the trappings of flawless Hollywood combine to make “John Wick” an American action classic.… Expand

John Wick is something special. It takes as much time setting up elaborate action sequences as it does the world with which it all takes place in. And what a world it is. It reminds me of Millers Crossing and it is cooler than any otherJohn Wick is something special. It reminds me of Millers Crossing and it is cooler than any other recent attempt at noir. We are shown a criminal underworld where, if you are connected, many powerful people know who you are and show you respect. John Wick was connected but he got out. He is the rare killer who has found peace, and he is grateful for that peace. Some young kids steal that from him and he does what he does best, he wages a one man war against the Russian Mafia. It might sound like the film takes quite a leap but it all makes sense. The motives of John and the people who get in the way of his bullets are all very clear, even if it does come across as rather simple. That's the plot at it's most basic. Then there's the action. The film is directed by Reeve's stuntman from The Matrix, so this guy knows action. There are sequences that flow so smoothly it puts other action films and their quick cuts to shame. Keaunu moves so fluidly throughout the film and comes across as such a natural that the only disappointment is that we have not seen him like this before. Along the way are plenty of character actors, fans of The Matrix and The Wire will recognize a few people then there are more obvious ones like Ian McShane and Willem Dafoe. Everyone seems to be having a good time. That is another plus for this movie. It get's dark at times but overall it is quite fun, not very chipper, but fun. I cannot recommend this movie enough. I believe it is a must see for action fans and for anyone looking for something a bit different from the usual fare :)… Expand

I can accept the fact that John Wick has supernaturally fast reflexes and a crack aim, but the CQQ fighting didn't seem plausible. Lots of beating up henchmen twice his size; he got away with it in the Matrix as it wasn't reality. Here? I normally don't make reviews for movies but this movie was so good I had to make an exception. This movie is not just your typical generic action movie where your main character is an assassin given a task by someone, instead it's about aI normally don't make reviews for movies but this movie was so good I had to make an exception. This movie is not just your typical generic action movie where your main character is an assassin given a task by someone, instead it's about a retired assassin that must go back to his old life after travesty strikes him. The pacing is surprisingly brilliant as it starts you off with John Wick injured and you don't understand how he got there, but it's abundantly clear at that point he's not a super solider who can withstand everything, he's still a human at the end of the day and that's what makes you care about him throughout the entire movie since you worry and fear for his life when there are DOZENS of bad guys in this film. Speaking of the bad guys, these main villains are technically noobs but the reason you'll start to care about them is that they commit a horrible act to the main character of all people and that in return helps you start to root for John to take down the bad guys and when he does, I'm glad it's a "kill him, get out of there", there's really no reason to delay their deaths and I'm glad the directors understood that. Speaking of killing, the gun fighting and techniques Keanu Reeves uses to take down his opponents are surprisingly good and are more focused and smart and you can really feel it with how the camera moves. The characters are surprisingly memorable with each of their individual actions and motivations and helps out in more variety in the film. Now that being said, it's all not happy news with how this movie reuses plenty of enemies with no stronger ones later on and it does drag down the experience when you have to watch John kill basically the same leveled enemies over and over again. In the end though, this film is amazing and is certainly a film I'd love to re-watch in the distant future with how good it is and I can't wait to see what the sequels have in store.… Expand

REVENGE PORN is my summation of this film. I get the sensation of being emotionally manipulated to root for an ex mafia hit man when in reality, they are all despicable P.O.S.

Oh! They killed his puppy! Think for micro second.. John Wick probably did worse than that before he fell in love and left the crime world in order to live the good life from all of his ill begotten riches.
Coupled with absolutely no other true character development and for what of that there is, it takes a back seat to the non stop MATRIX LIKE hand to hand battle sequences that make up 95% of the film. Isn't that nice of Hollywood to develop a series of films where Keanu Reeves doesn't have to act and involves almost identical battle sequences using his skillset that he had previously learned for The Matrix trilogy.. hmmmm things that make you go hmmmm.... at least the matrix had an interesting and way more complex storyline to frame the action sequences in it. This film is extremely unsophisticated REVENGE PORN. How ever polished it may be.… Expand

Who cares about a plot.
This movie is solely about action and how much you can squeeze into a run time of 101 minutes.
To do that, the action has to be excellent and for the most part it is.

Very stylish film with good close combat action sequences (and some vehicle action). Villain is made to be fairly realistic and mortal, more so than John Wick, which is a nice change as these types of films often make the villains seem unrealistically bad. There's subtle dark humor mixed in throughout the film. Negatives, biggest is the large contrast of dialogue volume to music and sound effects, at least on a standard TV (may be better with an external sound system). You will need the remote, trust me. You also just have to accept it's unrealistic like many action films with the main character seeming to be invincible (though constantly getting beat up and seeming on the verge of death). The premise is borderline absurd though it's likely intentional, that he takes down a massive NYC crime mob all on his own because the son of the mob leader killed his dog and stole his car (why is explained as the film goes on, trying to avoid spoilers here). Could use more variety in the action, most of it is indoor gun shootouts, him versus 50 mob people several times (how big is this mob anyway? law enforcement has really failed if they've allowed something this big to develop). His dialogue is intentionally minimal but when he does speak, sometimes it comes off a bit corny and he has one mood / demeanor the entire film with a few exceptions (again, that likely isn't an oversight but what they wanted). Soundtrack is okay, may have been better without some of the alt-rock songs, not sure.… Expand

I love the John Wick series. Whether it's because Keanu Reeves plays here, which is my favorite actor, or because it's just that the action scenes from this series have no competition for me. John frequently causes massacres depopulating entire city-blocks and it's mostly nodded off with a witty one-liner, that's fine one or two times, but it's seen multiple times throughout the entire movie.
Still better than any Fast, Furious, or otherwise stathamy movie these days and Keanu Reeves definitely carries the entire thing.… Expand

Devo também mencionar a direção de arte. A caracterização da "organização de assassinos" tá fantástica, desde o lugar frequentado por eles ao modus operandi. As cores dão uma atmosfera unica, e junto ao figurino demonstram um resultado singular. Keanu Reeves é um mestre em filmes do tipo, e sua experiencia com artes marciais e armamento falam por si só. Willem Dafoe aparece pouco, mas sua presença sempre chama atenção. Michael Nyqvist também faz um bom trabalho.

The home invasion sequence and the Red Circle shootout are some of the best action sequences of the last decade. But the action of this film isn’t all it has to offer; it goes above and beyond what an action movie is called for by setting up an entire underworld of assassins that... it’s just so cool. The premise is extremely simple yet ruthlessly effective because of its setup, and of course; Keanu. F#cking. Reeves. His dedication to his craft gives these movies a passion that otherwise wouldn’t exist, and he even manages to pull out a decent performances in the quieter moments. (As much as I love Keanu, his acting ability isn’t what makes him so awesome). Unfortunately, the movie definitely peaks in its first two acts; after John achieves his goal, there isn’t much that tops that intensity. I mean, Wick takes on entire squads of trained henchman with ruthless efficiency and the final battle of this film is an old, out of shape Russian gangster that manages to get the closest to killing John that anyone has? Yeah, I don’t buy it. But an underwhelming finale is the only real knock against this film, it’s still an excellent piece of action cinema.… Expand

What a pleasure to find what is for me "my favorite actor" in a role that sticks to the skin. This film is a CV to the future Matrix trilogy. It is also a thank you letter to wachowski. And while being what is quoted previously takes us in a tempting coherent story to caress the dynamic of matrix and keep a clean image for a series that I hope will not stop at the 2nd episode

Vous reconnaissiez surement un acteur capable d'endosser ce rôle. Quel plaisir de retrouver ce qui est pour moi "mon acteur préféré" dans un rôle qui lui colle à la peau. Ce film est un CV à la future trilogie Matrix. Il est aussi une lettre de remerciement aux wachowski. Namely to cheer over some good, old, raw violence. The plot is simplest it could be. Uberassassin Neo loses his wife to cancer and Theon Greyjoy kills his car and steals the little puppy she left for Neo to take care of (or the other way around, it does not really matter). There is only one thinkable reaction to this - murder Theon, his Russian mafia boss father, and everyone that gets in the way. Luckily, there is this hotel owned by Odin and managed by leutenant Daniels from Wire that houses all the assassins in the world and sees that they don't assassinate themselves in the hotel. Except they do. Then there is this chick. Well, better not to think about it much, it's as braindead as all the corpses the thin plot manages to manufacture on the way. At least the action is slick and well choreographed, no cheap shakycam like Bourne, and there is satisfying number of nice black cars, leather and quality booze - yes, sir, Blanton's is a fine bourbon, so points for that!… Expand

Sitting through so many cringe-worthy moments and cliches, I just can't for the life of me understand how human memory can be so dull, people can see these exact same scenes we've all seen for the past 20 years and think - 'this is groundbreaking'. Wick really reminded me of Ben Stiller's Scorcher in 'Tropic Thunder' ("The man who made a difference 5 times before is about to make a difference again, but this time it's different" ). So I guess we haven't seen the last of these... 2 stars for introducing me to that awesome Kaleida song played in the shoot shoot bang gang scene in the club.… Expand

Some of the depth is hidden on the first view but this is a story of a man who gave up his former life for a woman who then dies . He is alone given up his former life and having his current one torn apart . In this depressed and lonley state he receives the gift of a puppy from his deceased wife he sees this puppy as the only joy in his life a chance to prove to himself that there is still good inside him . someone then kills this puppy and steals his pride and joy a vintage Mustang (in the second film it is revealed this contains the last photos he taken of his wife .he then in beautifully choreographed scenes proceeds to rain lviolence down upon those that killed his dog and stole his pride and joy.
The true masterpiece here is the cinematography and choreography of the fight scenes this is what makes it a true masterpiece of the modern action genre .with long takes and few cuts the action scenes stand out from anything that has come before it .with an emphasis on realism that is often missing from action films every with bullet is counted and every target is eliminated with a brutal elegance.… Expand

Coming from an honest, emotional approach; John Wick lays down the groundwork for an enthralling world of assassins in a way that is completely unique from other movies like it. Witnessing a grieving man try to move on in his life only to witness him being dragged back into his past that he fought to escape, to find out that he is in fact a trained killer and the best of them all. You explore his dark past with him, you see this world that seems to be grounded in reality but is so surreal in its own right and you naturally learn its rules as well as its figures. I think that’s what I love best about this film, it’s not all the high octane action but the cleverly written world it is presenting before me. But needless to say the action does shine a lot; it is quite beautifully done thanks to Keanu Reeves’ knowledge of the stunts performed, the shots done with the camera, and the way the music compliments it to its fullest extent without missing a beat. But it is also the action that can hold it back for me. + Enthralling world

Cons
In this story you follow John Wick as he seeks revenge against the people who took away the rest of his normal life, hence making it an intriguing vengeance story, but the payoff of actually him getting his man for both occasions just doesn’t feel gratifying or it feels too quick to make it satisfying. Also in terms of the action scenes, while really fast paced and entertaining to watch, I found myself growing less interested in the typical cover shooting gun fights along with the settings they took place in. It felt too typical of a movie of its genre at times when it could’ve done so much more in the world that they had beautifully created. Maybe it was the praise the movie had received that made me feel a bit let down with some of the action segments or the fact that the fights got a bit samey towards the end. Regardless of this, it doesn’t hold the movie back from being great. It was just a bit disappointing in some of its aspects.

While the action scenes are impressive, if you watched only the first 15 minutes you've seen everything you need to see. There are only so many ways to watch John Wick kill someone.

John Wick Stahelski's action trilogy is every fan boy's wet dream. He clearly ought to be one of them to justify and glorify the characters like such on screen. His old productive textbook methods are testament to whyA Clear Polished Job.

Stahelski's action trilogy is every fan boy's wet dream. He clearly ought to be one of them to justify and glorify the characters like such on screen. His old productive textbook methods are testament to why it works and we nod so effervescently in his every possible scenario even though it raises questions every now and then. This people pleasing entertainment has one and only one reason to communicate it so thoroughly and its tendency to lean towards the mythological aspect of the characters. Despite of being dipped into a pragmatic mafia world, it makes sure that there is one key to every lock, one moon and one sun that shines over these surprisingly loyal and professional businessmen. On that note, the amiability of it to grasp that theme and beam us back to our childhood days, Stahelski is successful in his work.

In fact, personally, I feel the lead to be eerily similar to the comic character He-Man. He too has a pet animal and is incredibly feared by his enemies, something that Stahelski has got it right on the mark. The build up of his presence on a room or even a mention of his that makes others writhe on the spot, is so precious for this storytelling to move forward, that Stahelski has made its priority and with Reaves- a smart casting choice since he already has such a reputation- on the realm, he can sleep peacefully.

And yes, it is for every man himself, Reeves never turns off the switch, he oozes power, chic panache and flamboyancy in his body language to own the surrounding, the car, the gun and the hype. The entire movie hangs on a single moment, that it is built towards, a moment where finally Reeves accepts his fate and claims the title that everyone has been giving him- something that you would encounter in a mythology- and that of course because of brilliant execution is one of the best shot scene.

Stahelski coming from a stunt department, the action leaves you in an awe of it, from imputing humor and bedazzling moments in this gore visual galore of his, the camera work is purely stupendous. And this is probably the only reason why it aches you to encounter a disappointing final act, since the choreography is neither clean nor is it shot perfectly enough to give even a vague idea to map around one's mind. The supporting characters are balanced and well bred, with antics that are derived from their equations, Dafoe, Palicki and Nyqvist stands out alone for their lethal-ness.

Stahelski's theme resonates more like Goddard- the creator of Marvel's Daredevil- than it does with Wachowski Brothers which is surprising since he came from that background. Another appealing aspect of it is the cleanliness, its huge neat production set and props that makes you want to pick up the gun and shoot out wild. John Wick is not pushing any boundary in cinematic world, it respects and accepts its place and delivers the best knockout there is.… Expand

Alors le clébard, puis la bagnole, cela ne semble pas porter à conséquence mais il faut voir le contexte évoqué dans le film, éventuellement sujet à dérapage(s), puis une chose en entraînant une autre, une escalade imprévue des évènements... L'occasion en tout cas pour Keanu Reeves de rebondir avec à-propos dans ce rôle peu amène et certainement soupe au lait, ce qui dans le cas d'un tueur professionnel mène à un défilé de macabés... jubilatoire.

Le film démarre un peu trop lentement mais dérape ensuite lourdement dans la violence énervée, alignant les scènes avec un entrain et un rythme très appréciables. Fort bien filmé (ce qui devient incroyablement rare de nos jours) ce John Wick est un divertissement de grande qualité, même si on peut regretter ce sang en images de synthèse (le choix de la facilité !).… Expand

John Wick might feel like a typical action film to some. But the main characters and the whole criminal world they live in makes it much more interesting that what we're used to seeing in the genre.

The plot of this movie is laughable and if you like good stories, run away now!

Action in the other hand is only bad. Punches have barely any weight, enemies are terrible with their guns and don't try to kill Wick but just shoot at hisThe plot of this movie is laughable and if you like good stories, run away now!

Action in the other hand is only bad. Punches have barely any weight, enemies are terrible with their guns and don't try to kill Wick but just shoot at his general direction. These goons are the worst and even a stormtroopers from Star Wars would be ashamed.

I actually really like this film.The movie had a really good suspense, camera work, sound design and editing.The sound design captures every little sound that happens in the movie.The music goes right with the flow as John here absolutely rips through crowds of bad guys.Every single gunshot and or stab is really emphasized and very hard to miss.Now onto the backstory and story of John.He has his wife and dog killed and niw he aims to avenge them by killing the one who’s caysed this and pretty much EVERYBODY relAted to that ONE person.The one thing I really like is how absolutely merciless ge is for pretty much everybody that gets in the way of his wratch.The final scene though was pretty dissapointing overall.It was a pretty simple knife fight with a pretty obvious outcome.What is this outcome you may ask?Well of course its our boy john killing the last bad guy(kinda like a mini boss from a video game). The movie ends with John nearly dying and gets himself a new dog.Also, the gore in the movie was awesome and didnt really seem out of place.Just pure unesecary but awesome gore.
This film defies our expectations for an action film as it doesnt hVe the cliché plot of the very typical “huehe lets save the world guys!’ , but it has a very different story.The whole movie happens because this russian guy from John’s former crew kills his dog which was John’s wife’s last present to him.Not onlh that but the dude straight up steals his car.This kovie is driven by revenge.Literally the whole movie is just about John getting revenge on basically everyone that did wrong to him.… Expand

An unoriginal and rudimentary story, filled with all the tropes you would expect with a high body count.

Since "The Matrix", when was the last time you saw Keanu Reeves kicking so much ass? "John Wick" is an exciting and stylistic action-packed movie, one that turned out to be a lot better than everyone thought it would be.

John Wick, the movie, is fun and cool. The action doesn't have the camera shake everywhere. However, that's all this movie has got going for it. The really awesome action. Awesome!! Of course it's an action film but hell it's so damn good. The action scenes are amazing, the image is brilliant and the sound is just staggering. Its just not my kind of movie. Its too stupid. Too worthless. When people talked about the dog, the dog, the dog, I realized it was going to be something stupid. It wasn't. That's the good part. After that excuse for the movie to exists, itsIts just not my kind of movie. Its too stupid. Too worthless. After that excuse for the movie to exists, its brain-less action, but without the hand on hand combat of the Jason Statham movies.
