This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This is definitely a guy's movie. Blood, guts and a lot of spewing. I liked the parts where it showed the code of honor among bad people, like the membership in some kind of pleasure hotel, where when you break the rules you're dead. It appears there are bad people have honor, and of course, those that don't. The best part is Keneau Reeves. He gives the proper intensity and he's back to his Matrix moves. Damn he looks good for 50 years old! We need to send The Equalizer, John Wicks and Liam Neeson's characters to fight Issis and make this a better world. Expand

One of the most original action movies to come out in recent history, this flick makes good use of Keanu Reeves' bad-ass performance, amazing stunts, and a great mafia world, that is to be explored in the sequel.

Stylishly executed and at times comedic assassin's revenge film that, while maybe a little too lean, is a fun enough diversion.

I didn't expect much from this movie, and damn did it satisfy me. Believe me, my friend said it was a movie about a guy who's dog gets killed and as a consequence he kills an entire Russian gang. It sounded silly. But boy was I wrong, Keanu is amazing in this role.

The first thing he does, though, is not attempt to ease his wounds, but rather take out his phone and watch a video of a girl on the beach. We later learn that was his wife, which died from an incurable disease and the man in question is probably one of the most feared and respected hitmen.

The premise of this film is that his wife leaves him a dog as present for him which is killed by a naive mobster's son just for fun so he can steal Wick's car. After that, we have the classic hero looking for revenge. But unlike most films, 'John Wick' offers a fresh premise, with the dog representing the last thing left for him by his wife, almost like a child, if you wish. More so, it offers some brilliantly directed and choreographed action scenes which flow perfectly and a soundtrack which is booming and dangerous.

So, this is a pretty cool film. It has the makings of greatness, but unfortunately there are some issues in controlling these elements. First of all, there are occasional awkward pacing issues, and also sometimes the film ditches its somber soundtrack for generic 'cool' pop-rock singles which are inappropriate. The character of John Wick himself is rather dull and emotionless (apart for his feelings of sadness and vengeance) although I tend to believe this was done on purpose. What is better is the way in which the main villain, mob leader Viggo Tarasov (Michael Nyqvist) is presented. He develops a fascination for Wick and his skills and determination, even though sometimes he seems a bit cartoonish.

Another great thing is the way in which John Wick is referred to as an unstoppable and feared hitman, almost like a supernatural being. The action scenes though, are perfectly balanced, realistic and by the end of the film Wick is bruised and beaten... but he survives. It is this perseverance which makes him truly powerful, but more so, he seems to be the only man which has true friends in the cold Mafia underworld, like Marcus (Willem Dafoe) who had many chances of killing him but could not do it.

In the end, 'John Wick' is a slick, dark and stylish action flick which despite a few awkward and overly dramatized moments offers one of the best, brutal and elegant fighting dynamics.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I actually really like this film. The movie had a really good suspense, camera work, sound design and editing. The sound design captures every little sound that happens in the movie. The music goes right with the flow as John here absolutely rips through crowds of bad guys.Every single gunshot and or stab is really emphasized and very hard to miss. Now onto the backstory and story of John.He has his wife and dog killed and niw he aims to avenge them by killing the one who’s caysed this and pretty much EVERYBODY relAted to that ONE person. The one thing I really like is how absolutely merciless ge is for pretty much everybody that gets in the way of his wratch. The final scene though was pretty dissapointing overall. It was a pretty simple knife fight with a pretty obvious outcome. What is this outcome you may ask?Well of course its our boy john killing the last bad guy(kinda like a mini boss from a video game). The movie ends with John nearly dying and gets himself a new dog. Also, the gore in the movie was awesome and didnt really seem out of place.Just pure unesecary but awesome gore.
This film defies our expectations for an action film as it doesnt hVe the cliché plot of the very typical “huehe lets save the world guys!’ , but it has a very different story. The whole movie happens because this russian guy from John’s former crew kills his dog which was John’s wife’s last present to him.Not onlh that but the dude straight up steals his car. This kovie is driven by revenge.Literally the whole movie is just about John getting revenge on basically everyone that did wrong to him.

Combining the Hong Kong action style with American neo-noir, John Wick has strong visual similarities to The Matrix and Oldboy. Keanu Reeves demonstrates once again his deep affection for action choreography with an outstanding stunt crew. The action covers gunplay, martial arts, muscle cars, and good-old street brawling. The plot even makes sense - something you wouldn't expect from such an intense action-driven film.

There is so much to love about this film. Truly one of the greats and a testament to Keanu's dedication and hard work; he surrounds himself with talented directors, designers, camera crews and stunt crews, and these perfect films are the result.

Villain is made to be fairly realistic and mortal, more so than John Wick, which is a nice change as these types of films often make the villains seem unrealistically bad. There's subtle dark humor mixed in throughout the film. Negatives, biggest is the large contrast of dialogue volume to music and sound effects, at least on a standard TV (may be better with an external sound system). You will need the remote, trust me. You also just have to accept it's unrealistic like many action films with the main character seeming to be invincible (though constantly getting beat up and seeming on the verge of death). The premise is borderline absurd though it's likely intentional, that he takes down a massive NYC crime mob all on his own because the son of the mob leader killed his dog and stole his car (why is explained as the film goes on, trying to avoid spoilers here). Could use more variety in the action, most of it is indoor gun shootouts, him versus 50 mob people several times (how big is this mob anyway? law enforcement has really failed if they've allowed something this big to develop). His dialogue is intentionally minimal but when he does speak, sometimes it comes off a bit corny and he has one mood / demeanor the entire film with a few exceptions (again, that likely isn't an oversight but what they wanted). Soundtrack is okay, may have been better without some of the alt-rock songs, not sure. Expand

This film came along at a time when action films were suffering deeply and showed them all how it’s done. The home invasion sequence and the Red Circle shootout are some of the best action sequences of the last decade. But the action of this film isn’t all it has to offer; it goes above and beyond what an action movie is called for by setting up an entire underworld of assassins that... it’s just so cool. The premise is extremely simple yet ruthlessly effective because of its setup, and of course; Keanu. F#cking. Reeves. His dedication to his craft gives these movies a passion that otherwise wouldn’t exist, and he even manages to pull out a decent performances in the quieter moments. (As much as I love Keanu, his acting ability isn’t what makes him so awesome). Unfortunately, the movie definitely peaks in its first two acts; after John achieves his goal, there isn’t much that tops that intensity. I mean, Wick takes on entire squads of trained henchman with ruthless efficiency and the final battle of this film is an old, out of shape Russian gangster that manages to get the closest to killing John that anyone has? Yeah, I don’t buy it. But an underwhelming finale is the only real knock against this film, it’s still an excellent piece of action cinema. Expand

I mean, think about it, if you were to listen to a pitch for a movie that was based around a former assassin who goes on a killing spree because his dog got killed...you probably wouldn't have high hopes for the movie. But, John Wick is about as good as it could possibly be. The action sequences are simply some of the most entertaining I've seen in the many movies I've seen. The world itself is also very interesting, and I'm looking forward to seeing the spinoff TV show about the hotel if it ever comes to fruition. There are some cheesy moments, and the story is pretty typical for an action film in the end, but it blew away my expectations when I saw it back in 2014 and I still enjoy watching it to this day. John Wick PvC Review (5/25/19)

Pros
Coming from an honest, emotional approach; John Wick lays down the groundwork for an enthralling world of assassins in a way that is completely unique from other movies like it. Witnessing a grieving man try to move on in his life only to witness him being dragged back into his past that he fought to escape, to find out that he is in fact a trained killer and the best of them all. You explore his dark past with him, you see this world that seems to be grounded in reality but is so surreal in its own right and you naturally learn its rules as well as its figures. I think that’s what I love best about this film, it’s not all the high octane action but the cleverly written world it is presenting before me. But needless to say the action does shine a lot; it is quite beautifully done thanks to Keanu Reeves’ knowledge of the stunts performed, the shots done with the camera, and the way the music compliments it to its fullest extent without missing a beat. But it is also the action that can hold it back for me. + Enthralling world
+ Intriguing characters and narrative
+ Fantastic soundtrack
+ Good Action
+ Naturally paced story and progression
+ Beautifully shot

Cons
In this story you follow John Wick as he seeks revenge against the people who took away the rest of his normal life, hence making it an intriguing vengeance story, but the payoff of actually him getting his man for both occasions just doesn’t feel gratifying or it feels too quick to make it satisfying. Also in terms of the action scenes, while really fast paced and entertaining to watch, I found myself growing less interested in the typical cover shooting gun fights along with the settings they took place in. It felt too typical of a movie of its genre at times when it could’ve done so much more in the world that they had beautifully created. Maybe it was the praise the movie had received that made me feel a bit let down with some of the action segments or the fact that the fights got a bit samey towards the end. Regardless of this, it doesn’t hold the movie back from being great. It was just a bit disappointing in some of its aspects.

- Payoff isn’t all there
- Action can be a bit disappointing at times

Overall
John Wick is a fantastic action flick with a genuinely intriguing world and with genuinely wonderful characters that feel natural to it. While some things are a bit disappointing it doesn’t take away the fact that this is a wonderfully entertaining film.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. An true masterpiece of a modern action film. Some of the depth is hidden on the first view but this is a story of a man who gave up his former life for a woman who then dies . He is alone given up his former life and having his current one torn apart . In this depressed and lonley state he receives the gift of a puppy from his deceased wife he sees this puppy as the only joy in his life a chance to prove to himself that there is still good inside him . someone then kills this puppy and steals his pride and joy a vintage Mustang (in the second film it is revealed this contains the last photos he taken of his wife .he then in beautifully choreographed scenes proceeds to rain lviolence down upon those that killed his dog and stole his pride and joy.
The true masterpiece here is the cinematography and choreography of the fight scenes this is what makes it a true masterpiece of the modern action genre .with long takes and few cuts the action scenes stand out from anything that has come before it .with an emphasis on realism that is often missing from action films every with bullet is counted and every target is eliminated with a brutal elegance.

It's not a bad movie by any means, but it's simply bland. Reeves is great as John Wicke, sort of like a dark James Bond, but the plot is uninspired.

Keanu Reeves is back and well to strong roles. The story of a hit man screaming for vengeance is a shot of action and pure adrenaline. Deserves a good bag of popcorn.

"Don't set him off." After you see John Wick, you'll be saying to yourself, "Yeah, NO SH*T!" to this movie's tagline. Why? After you see John Wick, you'll be saying to yourself, "Yeah, NO SH*T!" to this movie's tagline. Why? The short answer is this: Keanu Reeves, and the movie as a whole, kick some serious ass in this exciting, visceral, entertaining revenge flick. I feel I need to talk about this portion of the movie first; the elephant in the room: the way the action is shot and framed is graceful in the best violent way possible. The action moves along at a quick pace, which compliments it even more, and mixes in just the right amount of bloody brutality. Plus, for Keanu Reeves to be doing it, it's even MORE FUN to watch. But he doesn't just shoot his way through just to get his paycheck. He is great as John Wick, and his very best parts here are when he gives speeches about what drove him to do all this. In terms of plot, there isn't exactly a big amount of imagination, but other good elements make up for that. The main plot is this: John Wick's wife dies and for him to keep living his life with someone, his wife's dying gift to him is a cute lil' pup. However, Russian criminals come and kill his dog, then steal his Mustang. And that is a helluva misstep made by the Russians. John Wick then goes on for revenge. See? Not a whole lotta imagination or complexity, but what made up for it is the world-building that the film does. John Wick is a character that can definitely be expanded on and probably will. The "Continental" in the film is a criminal's hotel where they do their work and enjoyment. This can and probably will be expanded on, too. Let's talk about characters. The main villain here is Viggo Tarasov played by Michael Nyqvist, and I thought he played his role just as good as Keanu Reeves. I personally like villains that are likeable just as much as ones that aren't at all, and his character melds that together seemingly perfectly. Willam Dafoe and Adrianne Palicki were pretty good. All the others were just good. John Wick is a damn good example of why I love action movies, and is a fun-and-good-ass time. Expand

Suffice to say it's far from the only action movie to have a retired hitman make a comeback and hunt down mob members for revenge. The mob bosses son (Game of Thrones' Alfie Allen) is quite the cliche. Outside of a particularly interesting assassin hotel with a unique "management" system predictable elements are abound. However the film knows this and uses it to it's advantage.

There are quite a few funny moments surrounding how scared everyone is of John Wick. Don't mistake for thinking the film isn't taking itself seriously though. While it's not afraid to poke fun at it's cliche, B-revenge movie elements, the tone stays legit and hard for the sake of the action. Which outside of an excellent performance by Reeves is the best thing about this movie.

It doesn't rely on the same shootouts and fist-fights just about every action movie has been re-using for years. It's brutal, fast, excellently shot, and a heck of a lot of fun to watch. With smart tricks and instinct most haven't been seen before, both Reeves and director Chad Stahelski make John Wick look like the almost unstoppable threat everyone says he is.

It's a fun and furious ride that's sure to scratch the itch of even the most demanding action junkies. It's also an excellent film for Reeves. He plays the character so cool he's able to suck you in before the bullets start flying. So if you're looking for an excellent action film "John Wick" is the one I highly recommend. Re-used plot elements aside, it's a fresh and smart action movie.

My total score for the film is a 9.9/10.

We've had the equalizer, walk among the tombstones among others. What separates John Wick is the stylish action sequences and the overall lighthearted nature of the film. You never feel that the bad guys are ever so intense and threatening that you are really put off by them. You don't ever feel the need for that cathartic boss kill when it's all over. The director does a nice job of establishing the legend of John Wick and just how important he is. And the world of the hitman including all of the ancillary services such as the cleaning services the the hitman hotel and the gold coin currency all lend the film a degree of authenticity that seems to be lacking in other big budget films this year. The technical highlights for me would be the long-take fight scenes and gunplay. Keanu brings his Matrix-esque physicality back, he is very believable as an all-business professional in a questionable field that loves his craft, reluctantly as he is to pick it up again :)

John Wick is very stylishly cinematographed, very capably choreographed, and very well casted, from the lead (Keanu Reeves) to the villains (particularly Michael Nyqvist, Alfie Allen, and the dedicated Dean Winters, definitely involved in mayhem.). Overall, I'd rate this one of the tip-top notch action films for 2014 so far and one of the best of the last few years. Comparing it to the star's prior work, John Wick is far superior to 47 Ronin (they are in a similar genre, if different settings). I hope Keanau continues to explore the physical side of his range, as he is has a real talent at working in this space. He had a professional, balletic side to his gunplay in this film (enhanced by the cinematography) that I would love to see more of.

Also - I don't know for sure, but was there a "Commando" reference in there somewhere, with all of the "John" dialogue? :). This is a solid "A" effort for action fans, in my opinion.

Keanu Reeves is a solid actor, and it was therefore disheartening to watch his career slip away into flop after flop following his starring turn as Neo in the Matrix movies (the latter two of which weren’t so good, by the way). That’s why itKeanu Reeves is a solid actor, and it was therefore disheartening to watch his career slip away into flop after flop following his starring turn as Neo in the Matrix movies (the latter two of which weren’t so good, by the way). That’s why it was such a delightful surprise to me that "John Wick" returned him to bold, stylistically bloody form in the title role.

As Wick, Reeves plays a hitman struggling to overcome the recent, unexpected death of his wife (Bridget Moynahan) when he receives a puppy as a last gift from her to give him something to love and someone to grieve with. Unfortunately, while out with the dog he runs afoul of a Russian gangster, Iosef (Alfie Allen), to whom he refuses to sell his vintage Mustang, and that night the criminal and a few of his cronies break into his house, beat Wick savagely, steal his car, and kill the dog. This was a bad move, as we later learn from Viggo, the head of the New York branch of the Russian mafia (Michael Nyqvist) who is also John’s former employer and Iosef’s father: years ago Wick was a hitman of legendary status in the criminal underworld who, in an attempt to get out of the life and be able to marry his wife, eliminated all of Viggo’s “business” rivals in a single night. The rest of the movie plays out in relatively straightforward fashion, as a cat-and-mouse neo-noir action thriller with Wick trying to get revenge on Iosef while Viggo tries to protect his son and eliminate his former friend at the same time, but it’s the style with which the proceedings are conducted that set it apart from other movies of its kind.

John Wick was directed by Chad Stahelski and David Leitch, former stuntmen (Stahelski was a stand-in for Brandon Lee in "The Crow" following his accidental death, as well as Reeves in "The Matrix", and Leitch has doubled for both Brad Pitt and Matt Damon) who have an eye for action sequences. Whereas in many action films these days shaky and choppy camera work is relied on to give a frenetic feeling to the battle (and unintentionally giving people vertigo in the process), the exact same effect is achieved here with clean cinematography that tracks Wick in continuous shots (or they at least feel continuous) as he guns down enemy after enemy with effortless grace. There is a clear sense of who everyone is, where they are and why they are there in each shot, which is a big help to the audience by way of not inducing a headache in forcing them to figure it out for themselves. In addition to this, cameraman Jonathan Sela does interesting things with lighting, weather, and mood: in typical noir fashion many of the scenes are drab and gloomy, almost black-and-white from their dull color palettes, but it is interesting in which scenes this is prominently feature. Wick’s life outside of his criminal past is where things are more cut-and-dry in terms of color, but when he returns to the life of an assassin suddenly there are bright neon lights, blood-red dress shirts, and intricate tattoos aplenty (there’s also the unforgettable thump and whine of Marilyn Manson’s zombified blues-rocker “Killing Strangers” hanging over a number of scenes). This could be interpreted in any number of ways—it could be that John is more alive when he is embroiled in the criminal world and that he was denying who he was, or it could have been just to create a contrast between the two. I will say this, however: the life of a hitman seems far more lively than the life of a civilian in the film.

I keep referring to Keanu Reeves as John Wick because, in a sense, he is John Wick. The role is an amalgamation of many of his past roles: the one-liners of Ted Logan ("Bill and Ted’s Excellent Adventure"), the determination of Johnny Utah ("Point Break"), and the reluctance of Neo to be a part of a world he was unsure about ("The Matrix") stand out as the most obvious influences. Wick, like Reeves and his other characters, rarely grows visibly angry, frustrated or upset, and his supreme calm at all times makes him even more threatening when he’s wiping out half of New York single-handedly, as well as even funnier during the deadpan delivery of lines maybe not even intended to be humorous.

Lots in this movie is left unexplained when first introduced, including the supporting characters (which include Willem Dafoe as John’s mentor, Ian McShane as the mysterious operator of a downtown hotel catering exclusively to assassins, Adrienne Palicki as a fellow assassin who could’ve been a Xenia Onatopp-style Bond girl in another life, John Leguizamo as a chop shop owner and Lance Reddick as the concierge of the aforementioned hotel who seems to possess an uncanny sense of what the customer wants/needs), and what isn’t elucidated by the end is deliberately left open to interpretation or further elaboration in the next film. I’m looking forward to seeing the explanation behind the gold coins they use to pay for favors and services. 9/10

It's a crucial requirement for hitmen to have a mediocre first name and quirky last name, as seen with Bond or Bourne, by this standard, John Wick has secured himself in pantheon of action heroes. His tale follows the known formula of one assassin returning to his old life, but what makes John Wick stands out is how vibrant and exciting the movie portrays him. From the nuance, visual and audio, everything looks like enhanced virtual reality or a very polished video game. Keanu Reeves struts with every bone breaking moves he makes, and without a doubt delivering his best performance in years.

Keanu Reeves, despite having impressive resume, might not be the most dynamic actor. He doesn't transform himself in every role, like say, Tom Cruise. However, with good direction and material, both are present in this movie, he will perform amazingly. This is one of Reeves' best roles aside from his in Matrix and Speed, he brings the air of confidence along with hidden yet excessive violence. Reeves display a good emotion as the character, and he also moves with certainty like a hitman would. There is expert use of close quarter combat technique with multitude of fire arms and knowledge of martial arts for the foundation of the character. Although it is heavily brimmed with action elements, John Wick is also equipped with a bit of emotional baggage. From ancient time, the loss of loved one is an acceptable motive for incoming rampage.

The movie is exhibited with flair, its use of color is simply impressive. Every set piece is done with meticulous vivid visual. The camera angle makes it as though the world of John Wick is seen in different light, almost in the setting of enhanced modern noir. Each action is choreographed meticulously and it's a paramount aspect to make him believable as a lethal force. One of the best things about the action is how the fast pace can be captured with precision. Oftentimes movie employs shaky camera or highly uncoordinated editing. This movie manages to display action with clear focus and crisp movements, even at more crowded setting it never relents or overload the viewer with too much visual information.

Soundtracks help a lot with solemn tone and faster techno rhythm. It's probably one of the best soundtracks of this year, rivaling Hans Zimmerman's from The Amazing Spider-Man 2. There are not many action movies with this high of production value, it certainly packs enough fiery punch to leave a scorch mark for sequel, I won't be surprised if there's even a video game of it. With no Bond, Hunt or Bourne in sight, this may be the time for John Wick.

First of all I must say that the story here, while having a standard revenge story structure,is handled with such equisitely good writing and acting that, you just can’t help but really enjoy it once again, since it uses all of the previously known stereotypes of characters, but constantly finds new ways to surpise you and engross you further into it’s world.Keanu Reeves,is an actor that I always liked,he is very good in interviews,he loves what he does and respects the work the directors put in(since he too was a director of “man of tai chi”)and still knows how to be in great physical shape for the stunts and fights, but I have to say that he was able to deliver an emmense amount of emotion in this film. There are scenes here that demand a lot of heart and soul from an actor and it is very pleasing to know that Keanu has handled it so well,it is truly his best performance since the matrix (or “the devil’s advocate”).All of the supporting cast is fantastic as well,Michael Nyqvist plays a highly charismatic and at times hilarious villain,Alfie Allen plays his **** son,who you want to see get beat up and killed. While other big name actors like Willem Defoe and Adrianne Palicki have smaller yet equally great roles,as Marcus(a skilled sniper and an old friend of John),and Perkins(who is hot as hell, fights like most men can’t and has great hair, loved her.).The premise itself is both ludicrous and clever, ludicrous for it’s overall resolution, you would think that a guy killing 84 people for a dog and a car would be dumb and downright idiotic, but because of the way Keanu commits to his job and delivered his performance you just can’t help but root for the poor guy.Meanwhile Derek Kolstad’s script ,establishes the world of John Wick very well, with hotels ,made for hitmen exclusively, that have certain rules, and you get killed for breaking them, the asthetic is mysterious yet very clear and logical and the overall atmosphere and the mood of the story is tonely consistent and very neat. Not only is John wick extremely well written and delivered,it is also masterfully directed ,by first time director Chad Stahelski and David Leitch(who have enormous amounts of stunt choreography and doubling expereince ,working for some of the best action films in recent memory).Since I too want to become a director ,I feel hugely inspired,to see such terrific directorial debuts. The action scenes are long ,inventive, slick ,fluid and well-choreographed.It is all directed steadily and confidently, with blood splatter and shell cases firing all directions and Keanu Reeves using the guns as his extensions rather than normal weapons,I was staring in pure awe and wincing at every bloody headshot, John Wick pulled. And like I said before the music accompanies the action and the fights like some intense orchestra that knows just when to hit to deliver that adrenaline rush of guys beating and shooting the crap out of each other,it may sound primitive, but just wait till you see the “Red Circle”club shootout it is most definitely the best club set-piece I’ve ever seen even better than Tom cruise’s Collateral club scene. It’s the kind of place were electronic dubstep and rocknroll was used to it’s best and most natural, with gunshots mimicking the rises and falls of the music’s rhythm ,it is a deadly dance, with great dancers ,explicit planning and brilliant orchestra, and while the latter action sequences, kind of fall apart just by a tiny, tiny, tiny bit(yes it was that awesome)it still remains a solidly directed action movie.I also loved the color palette of this movie,it was very bright neon, mixed with royal white and deep blue, that made the city of NY all the more vivid and exciting to travel though. All in all it was visually stunning. In conclusion John wick is certainly one of my favorite movies,of the year that uses those precious 96 minutes of runtime to entertain the audience the best it can. It’s brilliance lies in It’s simplicity,it’s complexity lies in it’s choreography and action, and it’s acting performance lies within the grasp of intelligent writing and terrific performance from the main stars, as well as the supporting cast. Also felt the same level of Badassary as in Jack Reacher, but this movie has clearly the upper hand in action. although it lacks in plot...

the Continental really was great and all the assassins sub culture with their rules and gold coins.

Would maybe give a nice spin-off, or even a tv series..

as far as the overall movie rating, i think this one sums it up well:

"John Wick is undiluted

Not to long after that, the dog is killed in-front of John Wick, whose sweet ride is then stolen by the son of a mob boss. So the next hour and change is basically Keanu just brutally killing every person that gets in the way of the man hunt for the his dogs killer. This was one of those movie that needs to be seen on the big screen, it has a some of the wildest fights scenes out of any movie I've seen in a long time, a variety of fitting music for the array of scenes and shots. This is by far Keanu Reeves best performances since the Matrix, its been a while since I've seen him put that much emotion into acting in some of the scenes in flick. Altogether this is a sweet film of nonstop action from beginning to end and is definitely worth seeing in theaters, at least for the first time. Expand

I can only recommend it to action film fans , however, because I don’t think it is going to largely appeal to people outside that demographic. Is there anything that is new or innovative here or has large deeper meaning? Not really, but it doesn’t need to do any of that, it’s just fine as it is. The pacing is pretty good, the action is excellent and it never over stays its welcome coming in a 101 minutes. The actors deliver pretty decent performances. It’s the exact film I needed to see after the last two reviews I had done!! However, I am in no mad rush to return to this film and I think I possibly might have enjoyed it more if the hype hadn’t built it up and if I had seen this before Kingsman. A sequel has already been announced, but I came out of the Cinema thinking that I think this film would work better as a solo film and I am slightly concerned that it will become like the ‘Taken’ movies where they would have been better staying as ‘one film’!! StopFunny how there are some really serious reviews complaining about "been there, done that," "story is horrendous," or "It's all glorified violence." To that I say, did you see what the trailer was even establishing with this film? Stop complaining about the violence! You know what you are getting into!

This is a straight up action, and in all it's glory, I loved it!!

Just look at the trailer again, and realize what you are walking into. A simple story, with some of the most beautifully choreographed action scenes that flow (and ontop of that, the dialogue is awesome to boot! and acting, and everything!).

I haven't seen this great of action since "The Raid 2."

To be fair however, I am a huge action movie fan, so I was automatically giving it browny points there.

What "Equalizer" failed to do (it's a good action film itself, but too slow for my taste) this film makes up for it.

Looking for a great drama? Look elsewhere.
Uneasy about the body-count? Then look elsewhere.

It was a ton of fun. Not every movie caters to every person, the trailer specifically makes that clear what it's going for.

Same with any movie nowadays ("TMNT" exclusively for kids, albeit it has a lot of questionable humor [it's Michael Bay of course]).

Loved every moment of it, knew what the film was going for and didn't walk away, but instead re-watched it on Blu Ray, cause it was that spectacular!

Three things you shouldn't do to a bad-ass:

1. Ruining his life
2. Kill he's family
3. Push him till he snaps

The story is about ex-hitman comes out of retirement to track down the gangsters that took everything from him.

When I first heard the news that this movie was getting made and the face that two directors that never directed anything before I thought it was going to be a load of crap, but it turns out I was wrong and this movie is awesome.

Keanu Reeves is simple at his best here, even if he's not the greatest actor on the planet, he does try every role and in this movie he does. The directors of the film David Leitch and Chad Stahelski both do a excellent and fantastic job of directing this movie and I found out that these two are actually stunt men. The villain was good, the action scenes were shot perfectly.

Towards the end of the movie felt a bit cliche for me. You know in every action movie that the main hero is facing off the main bad guy and they shouting out one liners at each other, you know what I mean and that to me felt like the writer's got lazy half way through.

John Wick has to be the biggest surprise for me with it's intelligent writing and nail biting action scenes.
