With the right amount of suspense and scares, as well as an emotional story at its core, "It" brilliantly captures the horror in Stephen King's classic book.

One of the best adaptations made of a work by Stephen King. Andy Muschietti delivers a great job, with well-developed characters and Bill Skarsgard delivering a remarkable performance as Pennywise The Dancing Clown.

Andrés did a very good job on giving the story an entire new look and a refreshing remake. Although it started out fairly slow and similar to the original one. It took up it's pace fast and immediately gave a new twist to the story. The story was kept interesting thanks to the angle we got on it through a bunch of different characters. Although some scenes were to be predicted since they were to be foreseen, it still succeeded to surprise at some moments. The cast did a very great job on bringing the story alive and they really made it a succes. Not the type of horror movie that makes me crawl under a blanket and shiver for another hour but certainly one that can get your blood pumping. Expand

The story plods along in a predictable fashion, crafting a series of contrived coincidences for this band of misfits and outcasts to come together, then slagging a bunch of derivative horror and teen drama cliche on top. This includes the splitting up of groups in obviously dangerous situations, the breakup of friendships followed by their inevitable reconciliation in the last half-hour, competing love interests, oh and there's even a 'power of love' scene in here.

The film makes a point of depicting the monster of 'It' as the representation of each character's fears, visible only to themselves and those they confide in. The monster disappears after the protagonists face their fears and overcome past grievances, and I guess this is the film's way of showing the struggles and uncertainties during our coming of age. It's a period of growth and transition that can seem nightmarish at times, and hopefully we come out the other end stronger as the protagonists of 'It' did with newfound resolve. These characters however are otherwise fairly one-dimensional because once you get past the whole 'what is their fear' thing, there's not really much else about them besides typical teenage stuff and cheesy comebacks. When you get to the actual horror part of the film, what's there is mostly just Pennywise doing weird crap, gore and jump scares.

I am a bit surprised with how well this is scored from a user perspective. The cinematography is pretty solid, as is the acting, and the script is decent. That's all fine and dandy, it's a technically solid film in that way.

It's supposed to be a horror film though and not once did me or the other 4 people watching feel suspense, worry, or scared in any capacity. Pennywise would certainly be a scary thing to deal with in real life, but I don't think the movie did anything to give any credit to that. Furthermore the pacing is not very good, we paused it shortly after the bathroom clean-up and were all shocked that there was nearly 40 minutes left.

I never saw the original, but I don't really care to after seeing this.

By far the strongest aspect of It is its acting. Not only are the child protagonists capable of acting well beyond their years, but Bill Skarsgard portrays the best crazed lunatic since Heath Ledger's Joker!

It's hard to find visuals that thrill in this day and age with such state-of-the-art effects having become commonplace, but is manages to deliver with excellence in makeup and camera tricks that made me emit an audible "Woah!"

As a horror film itself, It unfortunately falls flat. The scares are very effective, to be sure, but are too few and far between to sustain lasting tentions. It tries to balance sweet, heartfelt chemistry between the heroes with brutal, graphic terror and it can't seem to get the ratio just right, as the transition is often apparent and forced. It, despite its imperfections, breathes much-needed life into the dying horror genre and is well worth the price of admission.

What did this remake do better? Lets see:
1. Better characters and acting.
2. Better deaths. Especially Georgie's and Patrick's.
3. Better version of the story (by the not king of horror).
4. PENNYWISE IS GREATER THAN TIM CURRY'S PERFORMANCE!

I thought it would be a horrible movie that I would call bad, and mock the whole time at the movies. The movie opens up and I'm cynically poking fun at it, but then the movie kind of starts to take its self less seriously and I really enjoyed that. I like the whole bad ass kid way this movie goes. It really does a good job of making it kind of feel realistic. Most kids that age think they're cool because they cuss and think they're the best thing ever, and that they're so strong. That's how order kids are. They tend to think they're bulletproof, at least I know my friends and I did. The movie is serious/scary when it needs to be, and it's funny and doesn't take itself too seriously when it doesn't have to. Really cool stuff, tbh. Really surprised me. Expand

The cast is absolutely outstanding, every single one of the children put in a great performance, and each of them are extremely likeable in their individual roles. However, they were nothing compared to Bill Skarsgard's oscar- worthy performance as Pennywise. He is creepy, scary to look at and just the perfect actor for this role. The story is also really excellent, it has you hooked from the start. However my one complaint about this film is the scary- aspect. Sure, it's creepy but not once was I really frightened. This is possibly to do with the jump scares, as most of them felt comedic rather than scary, which I think was due to the direction. However other than that I can't really find anything else about It that I didn't like, this is definitely one of my favourites this year. Expand

A lot of people say this one is better because it is better madeIT is an excellent movie for me. I have to say though, even though it is my "Movie of 2017", I don't actually think it is better or scarier than the original, the mini series. A lot of people say this one is better because it is better made and the other one is not scary at all. Well, from a technological perspective this one is better, of course. However, this movie does not actually convince me of being a "real" movie about IT. The original was composed in a way because of its lack of budget as well as its score that it felt a lot more like they filmed real people and then when Pennywise came the scare came through its subtlety as everything seemed normal and then suddenly that one thing at the right time with its music came and that was always really frightening for me. It is not that this movie is not creepy at all but that's about it. It is nothing I can be scared of while the original traumatized me for over 20 years. The actors of this one were very good and of course I can only praise Bill Skarsgard's role as IT/Pennywise. He once said he does not want to do a Tim performance but a Bill perfomance and that was fine. He was "different" and he was good at ... IT. One complaint I have though might seem weird: Sophia Lillis is a cute girl but just as Chloe Grace Moretz in the Carrie remake she has the same problem: If we really go for a faithful Stephen King book portrayal these actors are not convincing. Both Chloe and Sophia are pretty girls. However, both Carrie and Beverly are characters in their own respective books that have a lot of trouble and are not popular at all. We live in a world though where a lot of people in society are already interested in you if you are just good looking enough already. And for those two girls it does not really convince that they are this highly unpopular. It does not mean "pretty girls cannot have problems", that is nonsense and not what I want to say at all. It is just not overly convincing simply because society with a lot of superficially thinking people would always present a lot of people would still be okay with them for merely superficial reasons. Sophia did a great job still, she was doing absolutely fine for her interpretation of Beverly, I think she was one of the better actors but this was something I though of that should be pointed out because a lot of people praise the movie for being so faithful to the book - even though it also has moments were the mini series is closer and not just vice-versa - so I wanted to say something about something being convincing as well as close to the original (that being said of course the old Bev's actress was also cute but she seemed more convincing as troubled girl who is mocked, probably because she was not presented "as tough" as we get to see Sophia in her first few scenes). What else can I see about this movie though: Bill's whole process of trying to cope with Georgie's death was nicely done. That being said I did not like the overall gory way the movie was presented. There are no-gos for me also in fiction and this movie was already touching the limit. This is also one of the reasons why I do not really find the movie really scary: The movie is so over the top that it loses its effect to me. The first "jumpscare" scene of the projector looks ridiculously over the top in my eyes, I do not like it at all. Other scenes - what IT says in the well house to Bill, which is my favourite scene in the movie - were so awesome instead that they pretty much carry the entire movie for me. So it was actually some kind of mix of what worked for me very well while others were to over-exaggerated. The rest was kinda okay. It definitely was by far of a better movie than I expected it to be and I can definitely recommend it to everyone, I just think those who bash the original should do that by just thinking about the technological perspective of that Tim Curry's Pennywise was not faithful to the book and thus are less impressed by it (though most actually like him nonetheless). But who knows, maybe other people are just scared by different things, that's entirely possible after all.

Broken down:

Watch ... IT.

I've never enjoy a single Stephen King movie in my entire life, except maybe for "Stand by me", for the touching friendship moments. As a matter of fact that's the only points I'm willing to give to "It" ; the characters are good enough, the girl especially is very good, they are charming kids friends. But those "Stand by me" moments can't carry a movie this cliché for 130 minutes...And be aware that it isn't scary at all, litterally, there is ZERO scary moment in It. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I am a bit biased, I have always liked Stephen King's books, and his movies. Yes, even the horrible ones. I do love the original tv series with Tim Curry, but Bill Skarsgard is just as good, but in a more horrific way.

The first thing you have to know, this is only half the book. This is the kid portion of the story. They have already hired the writer and are starting the sequel which is supposed to be the adult story. They even ended the movie with a "chapter one" meaning they knew they were going to do it.

So let's focus on the kids. They are all great, including the mouthy Finn from Stranger Things. The acting was great, the stories for each kid were interesting, and horrifying in their own ways (especially Henry and Beverly's, yes even the bad kid Henry had an interesting and almost heart breaking childhood).

The effects were great, but they didn't lean on them too much, a lot of darkness, a lot of charging attacks, but nothing so horribly CGI that it would jar. Although the greatest effect was Bill Skarsgard himself. The voices he could make, the looks he gave, especially the intensity, were the most horrifying thing in the movie.

The directing was great too. They cut the story down, made it lean by doing something I wasn't sure about, only covering half the book. They also got rid of the group sex scene from the book, definitely made it less skeevy that way. All the decisions I saw made the movie better.

I rank it up there with Kubrick's the Shining as one of my favorite King movies.

The good: Everything. The acting, directing and of course the source material.

The bad: I did feel like I was missing something, but that is because I have read the book and watched the mini-series and it felt strange to not have the adult half of the story. It was a good choice, and that bad is on me, but it was the one thing that made me hesitate.

GO SEE IT!

There are certainly a few flaws such as Mike Hanlon disappointingly given the shaft when it came to character development and dialogue as well as a couple of scare scenes suffering from less-than-optimal CGI.

But everything else was absolutely top-notch from the acting, the directing, to the forbidding atmosphere. If I had to describe this movie, it would probably be a combination of the demonic spook-house thrills of The Conjuring series combined with the setting of Stranger Things and the antics found in 80’s nostalgic classics such as The Goonies.

Even though the trailers have sold It as a horror film and while it is indeed a solid horror film, this is not the movie’s strongest attribute. That is because at it’s heart the movie is a touching coming-of-age story with Pennywise serving more as a metaphor for the traumas and personal issues that each of the members of the Loser’s club must overcome. I think it’s due to this reason that the movie not only ends up being one of the best King adaptations ever, but possibly one of the best movies of the year period.

I was so disappointed. I feel they completely destroyed the tension going the kids only route.

I was hoping for the same chemistry between the kids in the Losers Club, that the miniseries had and maybe some interesting new twists in the adult parts...

Instead we get a bunch of dick/yo mama "humor", a decidedly UNscary clown, "Said No One Ever" dialog and generic main characters we don't know enough about to care, that get methodically "frightened" one after another until you just want to scream, " Enough already! We get it, scary, scary CLOWN!"

It was like the Goonies with a dash of E.T. and every movie cliche there is.

What they did with the character of Mike was terrible. And I hear they plan on making him a drug addict in part two. Uhhggg.

I decided to see this having recently viewed the 90's mini series with Tim Curry. I felt this film did an excellent job of telling it's story. Like any good horror, afterwards, it left me with the sense that something might be right behind me! Overall IT 2017 provides a highly watchable journey that sets up a sequel which I now cannot wait to see. If you're a fan of the genre this is a must-see.

IT 2017
Andy Muschietti's mama had a strange ghost. He introduced a new appearance of ghost. I appreciated his invention to scare us although it wasn't a big hit like "it". "It" is a movie based on Stephen King's Novel and also there has already been a movie in 1990. I like big movies, it is difficult to make especially when it comes to horror. Nothing is more shameful for a director to make a boring film especially if it is horror that's because your imagination sucks which means your screenplay is absurd, so the story as well as the music. I found "it" to lack a quality story. It is a movie about child's arm being eaten, a father seducing her daughter, a mother lies her son about a serious disease he doesn't have, a teenager's cowardice to kill a sheep. We see the same boring lights flickering, stupid disturbing soundtracks especially when something spooky is expected. Absurd nasty characters walk on streets and our teenage heroes find them real and very surprising than being scared of. Everyone reacts in a very curious manner than being scared of in the same way and the other day they hardly share their paranormal experiences among the group. I could not find although I tried my best to discover something new in the movie but every single scene is nothing more than what we have already seen even in cheap movies. I couldn not understand the philosophy of the two psychopaths in the film neither could enjoy. One is a senior kid with his bizarre mind to harm helpless weak students. And the other one is the pennywise. The floating phenomenon does not have a good explanation. I had failed every way to enjoy the film yet I failed because it felt like an adaptation of certain scenes in other horror movies. The photography and cinematography could not make me focus on the characters. There is a scene when Ben was scratched by Pennywise and we could see the bloody deep cut and he doesn't have enough reaction to it while in the next cut we see him keeping his hands on the wound. I tried my best to still keep watching such an imbalanced, distraction-full movie. I haven't read the book but if the movie is completely based on the book and of the ending is all same, then I would say it needs a better story. Better characters. I was thinking how could they hurt or kill a dead being and how or why God was silent for the evil to prevail! It would have much better to modify the story with God to contact our hero as he is going to die, as he mentions in the beginning, and to tell what's blocking him to save the floating beings, so to guide him a world between evil and good.

There are so many things wrong with this adaptation that I haven't the time to write it all, nor would you the time to read it. Finally, the demographic for this film seems to be early teen boys who just discovered curse words and their first pube, so if you're not in that revered group, then this film is a solid Skip on my Buy/Netflix/Skip scale. Look... I don't want to take anything away from Tim Curry's incredible portrayal of Pennywise... but that aspect aside, the new "It" is just a superior movie.

For me, the major improvement was the visuals. Whether you like CGI or not, there's just so much more that can be accomplished now in the area of visual horror, and I can't think of a pure horror movie that benefits more. There are a number of scares that would have been totally unfilmable in the original. In 1991, we got to see Pennywise's demonic teeth thanks to a mouthpiece you'll find today at a costume store... In 2017, we get visual effects that bring your toothiest nightmares to life. A lot more "reality warping" is possible nowadays, and this movie is a perfect example. Right from the opening where Georgie dies (that doesn't qualify as a spoiler,) you'll see the difference good visual effects can make. This story was *screaming* for a modern-day makeover with the range of effects on hand. The story itself is decently paced, the casting for the Losers Club was impeccable (not to mentioned Henry Bowers and Pennywise,) and the scares are well distributed to keep things interesting. On the minus side, they laid the soundtrack on a little thick... Sometimes, you get the feeling the producers think the audience needs help telling when the scary part kicks in..... This might be the case with many other movies, but not this one. You'll know when it's time to be scared, because it will simply be scary.

I'm actually convinced the adult chapter will be weaker, if only because the kids' chapter was so on point, and puts a lot more energy into shocking the viewer than resolving the story.

The entire cast of kids was phenomenal, especially considering this is a bunch of relatively fresh faces, similar to Stranger Things. Ironically, Finn Wolfhard (Mike Wheeler) stars as Richie in this film.

The depiction of Pennywise is genuinely unsettling and Skarsgard does a fantastic job. The visuals are very well done, but nothing too far above or beyond the average modern horror film these days. However, the soundtrack is a cut above the rest. Benjamin Wallfisch, who has had relatively limited experience scoring blockbusters, really shines in this film. Hopefully he does just as well with Blade Runner 2049. The production value can seem a little corny and some little details don't appear to be exclusively 80's-90's, but it's still worthy of praise.

The premise of the film follows rather closely the novel by Stephen King. To appreciate the plot is to appreciate the novel as well, but the way the film portrays broken homes, abusive parents, and a lonely group of kids just trying to get by through the fellowship of one another is subtle and real. The scenes in which you see the kids being bullied would hit home for anyone who's been bullied themselves. The scenes portraying neglectful and abusive families reminds all of us that some kids in this world go through this every day.

Lastly, praise to Andy Muschietti for making one of the most accurate portrayals of a Stephen King novel to date. This goes up there with Kubrick's "The Shining". This is wholesome, shocking, brutally real, and will have you in tears at the end and reminiscing on that one love you too left to move away to some far off town leaving you alone with your nerdy, loser* friends ;) Can't wait for Chapter Two!

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I don't usually watch horror movies and if I do it's more comedy horror in the vein of Final Destination. However, I had heard that this movie was really good, so I thought "Why not? I'll give it a try" and I LOVED It ;). The actors were brilliant, the humour was great. The horror aspects didn't scare me as much as I thought they would; they could've made it a little more scary rather than just creepy. And I'm still pretty salty about it ending with the logo being overlaid with the words Chapter One, but apart from that, this is a really good movie. Thumbs up!

But if you want to go see a horror movie you will not find exactly that, but with a mixture of several genres that works excellently and makes the viewer have a good time. There is suspense, romance, comedy and the odd moment of fright. The characters are incredible as one becomes fond of them, feels identified and cares what happens to them; the performances are excellent the one of all the boys, but, who more stands out in the film is Bill Skarsgard (although I would have liked to see a little more of his Pennywise). The photography and music are very good. Expand

The kids were really good actors and they all had well written characters in the movie. The movie was very captivating overall. I didn't find it very scary myself. Although I do believe I don't get scared easy. The movie plays on a lot of great fears that kids have. The choice of music was interesting. Despite it being a horror movie it wasn't always scary. The music always fits the scene and helped add to the dramatic effect. The ending was great and extremely satisfying. Overall the movie was a great movie and worth the watch. I recommend this movie! Truly great movie, it was well written, well acted and edited. It truly shows at it's core what Stephen King's story is meant to be and that is a story about friendship with a greater menace lurking.

Bill Skarsgard (my Favourite blood eater from the Netflix show Hemlock Grove) does right out with that in the famous opening scene with the paper boat and Georgie's Arm, in this remake there isn't a doubt in the viewers mind that this isn't a clown, but a being that just has the face of one, and Georgie finds that out first hand or should i say arm. so we find the losers slowly coming to grips with talking to a girl, dealing with the loss of a brother, finding body parts, and being followed by a creepy clown that nom nom noms on people ... you know normal kid stuff. so slowly through out the movie each child is presented with their biggest fear, we have Stan, Ben, Bev, Richie, Eddie, Mike, and bill.

The Acting in this movie was some of the best child actors i have ever seen, and its hard to remember they are child actors. although we are blessed to see Finn Wolfhard from "Stranger Things" as Richie, his experience shows in this film almost like he is directing the others off screen.

9/10 for this nostalgic remake. an amazing movie for those who like a good scare, are a fan of Stephen King. or just want something odd and out of the box, IT delivers and all of that and more, again i cant get over thanking the Writers for this one, it could be just as cheesy and not scary as the original but boy, was i wrong

With high hopes for this remake, I was stunned by the lack of quality, character development, the overuse of digital effects, the overuse of retro gadgets, the bad tempo, the horrible jokes, just everything about this movies was poor and unintriguing. For every time the suspense was building up, it got released by a cheap jump scare, for every time the actors had a moment that could leave some impact it got quickly destroyed, even when the clown was in frame it was just, meh. And yes Bill Skarsgård was behind the layers of 3D, but it did not make a difference. The only positive thing was Pennywise's ”Home", it was impressive and a better reveal than in the original 1990 version.

Conclusion: As the movie doesn't care about it'self you shouldn't care about IT. Watch IT from 1990, not fantastic but quite good in its own way.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view.

For those of you who are bad at math, that’s almost one per week. Why we as a society keep revisiting stories that have been told time and time again is beyond me. It, based on the Stephen King novel of the same name, is the most recent to follow this trend.

The film tells the story of an outbreak of cases of missing children in the same town of Derry, Maine during the summer of 1989. It opens much like the original, with the young Georgie losing his paper boat down a storm drain. If you’ve seen the original or read the book, you know where this is going. I will say that this was the most tense and unsettling scene in the entire film. This is primarily due to the amazing performance of Bill Skarsgard (Hemlock Grove, Atomic Blonde) as Pennywise, the dancing clown.

Not since Heath Ledger’s turn as the Joker has someone taken a role previously played by another actor and truly made it their own; breaking the mold and exceeding all expectations. Even without saying a word, Pennywise is creepy as hell and sure to give anyone with a fear of clowns plenty of nightmares for the rest of their lives. While the character is featured prominently throughout the film and steals the show any time he is featured, he is simply not in the film enough.

With a running time over two hours, you’ll see Pennywise for approximately 30 minutes of it; mostly during the climax. The remainder of the film follows “The Loser Club,” a group of young friends that are social outcasts and spend their free time exploring sewers and evading the local bullies. While the young group of actors displays a wealth of talent, especially Finn Wolfhard (Stranger Things), the writing and pacing is extremely lacking.

Most of the film is spent dealing with horrors our heroes face that are not so supernatural, such as abusive parents or the previously mentioned bullies. I found it strange that out of a group of more than five kids, you only see a small number of their parents throughout the film. I’m unsure if the parents are taking a page from the Liam Neeson book of parenting or really were that uninvolved in their kid’s lives, but it distracts from the story. Additionally, 2 of 2 dad’s you meet in the film are portrayed as pedophiles, which does little to confirm whether the kids were really seeing Pennywise or they were using him as a scapegoat for their fears.

Unlike some of my GBG comrades, I am not a fan of the 80’s, but I was able to recognize a number of callbacks and small details that did make the film feel authentic. From the music, cars, costume design and set pieces, the 80’s setting is believable. Even down to the Molly Ringwald-ish looking Sophia Lillis, this feels like a movie released circa 1989.

You’ve likely already decided if you are going to go see It or not, but as someone who holds high respect for the original, I found the remake to be lackluster on most fronts. I would strongly recommend that if you are interested in seeing the film, wait until it’s released at your local Red Box.

You would think that something seen in all the marketing and ads makes the movie something different, that it does something revolutionary, that it improves upon previous horror movies while paving the way for more terrifying adventures led by loveable kid characters. Well you would be right, to some degree.
The story features a collection of teenagers living in the small American town of Derry. At the beginning of the movie we are shown the younger brother of their leader, Bill being brutally murdered by Pennywise the clown who dwells in the sewers. This sets off a chain of frightening and creative scenes where each member of the losers club is faced with Pennywise taking the form of their greatest fear. They then make the collective decision to pursue the clown and kill it once and for all.
The story says relatively uncomplicated which means there aren't too many times where you find yourself confused. There are also plenty of scenes where the characters are able to bond with one another and grown their relationship. Each actor gives an outstanding performance and work the personality of their respected character flawlessly. There is no sugar coating with the characters who all have social, domestic and school related problems. This makes them easier to connect with given that they all have problems they cant outrun much like ourselves. Bill Skarsgard also gives Pennywise a quirky yet demonic personality which differs only slightly from the performance given by Tim Curry. They both relish in terrorising these children but Skarsgard proves noticeably more sinister and serious. I am not saying having a more serious Pennywise is a bad thing but it only makes him more similar to hundreds of other serious faced, emotionless bad guys from other horror movies. But Pennywise wouldn't be anything without his fearsome talent.
It has scares by the dozen and each one is as creative and spine-chilling as the last, each one manages to connect with something deeply feared by their corresponding character wether it be Bill seeing Georgie decay before him or the Leper chasing Ed, a child with OCD. Rarely is any blood shown which only highlights the situation and effects when it does make an appearance. But for every scare the kids are faced with there is a real life problem to go along with it, this makes the idea of conquering pennywise represent tackling our own fears and problems in real life, and the best way to do it is as a team. It is not a flawless movie. The story has many moments and details that feel quite useless and add nothing to the story, this wouldn't be so bad if they added to the humour or added more depth to the characters but they don't which only drags the movie on for longer. As I have said before I am quite fond of the scares in the movie but they are also guilty of jump-scares, a notoriously cheap way to scare the audience. About seventy percent of times you will hear a scream from the audience because of a jump, a mistake the movie also makes is how surprisingly well the kids seem to deal with life with Pennywise. Every time a terrifying scene concludes we see the characters doing something completely normal where they appear unaffected. This manages to lessen the impact of any scares and makes Pennywise seem like a nuisance than a threat.
So in conclusion, It is a fresh and uniquely scary take on the Stephen king novel and one that is well worth your money and your appreciation.

Summary: It was a pleasant surprise, probably one of the most memorable horror films I’ve seen in the past 5 years. 86/100 [B+]

First of all, it’s great to be back with you guys after almost 3 years of zero reviews. So moving on, I was not expecting this movie to be good at all, the trailers did not convince me and it did not look scary at all to me. But holly hell! I did not do any research about this movie so when it started to get many attention and praise from critics I was interested. So I found out later that the guy who directed Mama made this. I liked that film in general, so I was even more excited. Anyway let’s get to the film. This review will contain minor spoilers if you haven’t see the film. I will not reveal anything too important.

I was really surprised with the opening scene, the movie introduces us to Georgie and his brother and then we move on to… that scene. Pennywise looks scary as hell and his dialogue is funny at the same time also the saliva coming out from his mouth adds a little creepy touch to that specific scene. Then we move on to the rest of the first act which introduces us to these kids and their bullies, this movie does a great job developing its main characters which are performed by many talented kids who did an excellent, magnificent work on their roles.

It was pretty cool to see the individual scary scenes with the red balloons for each kid, all of this moments packed many jumps and jolts which I found extremely well directed. I noticed that this movie still keeps the “Mama” flavor from director Andy Muschietti. Both films have similar creepy imagery and effects. Both movies look very similar in style, color and art direction, I absolutely loved that the movie kept that aspect. I cannot wait to watch more films coming from him.

The second act is slick, dreadful, a brutal explosion of blood (literally). I loved every second of it, my movie theatre was screaming and laughing all at once during this act. This is definitely one of the best movie theatre experiences I’ve ever had. The projector scene was so freaking good, (I will not spoil anything) let’s just say that it is one of the best moments in a horror movie in years. Also, my favorite scene was the first bathroom scene with the incredibly talented Sophia Lillis (Beverly), her screams and overall performance during that scene was mind-blowing.

Another moment from the movie which involves a scary looking house was very intense too. It was one of the sequences who got the most gripping reaction from my audience. Muschietti directs with energy, it is a sea of memorable scares and surprises. Oh, man this movie has so many great moments! Also, the film does a great job mixing the comedy and horror aspects together. When the film is doing horror it’s scary, and when it is doing comedy it’s hilarious. Mainly because of the genius and sleek dialogue between the characters.

I want to stand out Nicholas Hamilton’s performance as the bully guy (Henry). He did a fantastic job and he was very scary in every moment he was on screen. I actually felt very frustrated as the characters themselves. I also felt a great connection between the characters, there was good chemistry among them. That beautifully scary house sequence left me breathless, because it’s the moment where **** going down. The moment where everything goes to hell, amazingly orchestrated by Muschietti.

Third act is shaky but still fun. I wish it did not have all of that shaky cam during the final fight, it was very difficult to see what was going on. It was similar to what happened with the horror/action scenes in the movie Krampus, way too dark and shaky. But whatever it was still entertaining. The resolution of the film was very accurate, I was very happy with the ending and I cannot wait to see the sequel which I hope is as good as this film.

As with flaws I would say that it takes some time for the film to start the horror aspect. It takes a lot of time to develop these characters. But I don’t complain after all, movies need great character development. Another minor flaw I have is some of the VFX used in the film, in a couple of moments they look kind of weird. But hey! It’s from the same guy who directed “Mama” so I get why he decided to use that type of strange CGI in this film. Anyway, this is one of my favorite horror movies in the past 5 years. It is so extremely well directed, acted and shot. It has so many memorable horror moments and it definitely deserves to be the highest grossing horror film to date! [B+]
