An excellent movie, with excellent performances, both by Morgan Freeman and Matt Damon. I liked this movie, and I don't even like rugby. A good sports movie.

Bit superficial, but it wasn't a problem, it rose above it!

Felt rushed and some things were left unspoken, such as the airplane thing or the kid with the bag, like he was carrying a bomb, but it was a beautiful inspirational movie, even broke a tear here and there. Loved the idea! Great quote material, great original songs. As for the nominations: Morgan's definitely worthy, I haven't seen the rest of the nominees performances, I can't say yet if he deserved the Oscar yet, but I will say when I'll watch the winner; Damon's wasn't deserved, too brief and "natural" performance to be up there, but the movie deserved a best director and best picture nomination at least, in my opinion! We need more movies like this! Peace!

However, Eastwood does direct beautifully in the lead up to the Final. Here, I will say only one thing : It doesn't matter if the NZ team had food poisoning, what mattered, was they didn't win on the day. They acknowledged that. It would be unfair to say that it wasn't a real victory. They lost, and you can't change the past. Fat is fact, and with the wonderful performance by Freeman, I believe Eastwood captures the moment as it was, and forever will be. Expand

Works better as an interesting history lesson, and a glimpse of the greatness that is Nelson Mandela, than it does as a sports movie, or than it does as an inspiring/poignant/feel good story. Morgan Freeman is excellent. Matt Damon is merely ok.

I saw it on a boring Monday afternoon with a friend who was playing doodle jump on his Ipod Touch (fun game I recommend it) most of the time but he still liked the parts of the movie that he actually watched. I wasn't expecting the rating I gave it especially because from the critics only one gave it 100. When the movie was over I wasn't sure whether to give this movie a 9 or 10. It would either be close to a 10 but not quite there or a 10 that just made it. So I chose 10 just because of thinking about the errors of the movie. Not many but the reason why it was so close was because most aspects of the film were good not great. For example the big stars in this movie were Morgan Freeman and Matt Damon. The both acted good not great because it wasn't that hard of a role to act in. Sure Morgan Freeman had to change his voice and I give him credit for that but what was so hard about Matt's character. All he had to do was gain muscles that he already has. After thinking about this film I don't think their were any errors really just most of the aspects of the movie were just good. The are many things I admire about this movie but one of them truly stands out. That is that there is not a lot to hate about this movie. I mean I am still trying to think of something stupid about this film. There is nothing and I am not sure why people did not like this movie. Overall great film take my word for it see this movie it is freakin awesome. Expand

This would be a great movie except for 1 major flaw; it's hard to believe that the escapee character played byTim Robbins in the prequel "The Shawshank Redemption" could become an international rugby player without attracting the attention of the criminal authorities. And in the original movie, they fled to Mexico; not South Africa.
Or maybe they sailed there in that little boat at the end of the movie?

However - the message of David vs Goliath is aptly portrayed in a good enough fashion.

Blu ray is far better witht the picture in picture director, actor and player commentary as it fills in a lot of the gaps which the film leaves.

Yet, I came away quite pleased. The film is as powerful and stirring as it should be given the subject matter and I thought that material was handled gracefully by the sure handed Clint Eastwood. Morgan Freeman and Matt Damon were both impeccable as Mandela and Pienaar, respectively. A film that shows that genius behind Mandela's pushing of success in the 1995 Rugby World Cup for South Africa and how he used it to unite a long divided nation, this one serves as a very good history lesson for those who are unfamiliar with the story and serves as great entertainment as well. Overall, Invictus is a very good historical sports film with fantastic performances that really make the film. You can really feel the tension throughout and it all culminates beautifully at the end. The only thing that makes this one better is that it's true. All-around good film. Expand

remember this day boys..

Invictus

If nothing works for you in this more than 2 hours of glorious experience, it surely will be inhuman for you to not be moved by the last act which shows the excellence in execution and more importantly majestic performances. Clint Eastwood once again proves his amazing and outstanding directorial skills which is highlighted more glorifying by if not gripping yet beautiful and smart adaptation by Anthony Peckham. Morgan Freeman; as Sir Nelson Mandela quotes, only he can portray it and is supported thoroughly by Matt Damon who too is in his A game. Invictus works more on inspirational nature and beauty of its script (the first encounter between Morgan and Matt is not easy to forget) rather than offering more gripping and exhilarating experience although if taken the last act into account, it surely is a game changer.

A little bit hit-and-miss, though 'Invictus' still manages to produce the requirements for a solid sports drama.

Morgan Freeman and Matt Damon are two actors I enjoy a lot, but by the end of this 2009 film I was a tad underwhelmed by them. Freeman as Nelson Mandela sounds great on paper, but in reality you kinda lose what makes Freeman so great - his voice, given he has to act with a South African accent. He still does a good job nevertheless, I just don't think I'll remember this particular portrayal of Mandela - unlike Idris Elba's attempt in 2013's 'Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom'.

The merging of the two plot points - politics and rugby union - is done well, though the former is easily more interesting than the latter... and I say that as someone who loves sport and dislikes politics!

It's one that is worth a watch, it just didn't give me anything to remember.
