The scariest part of this POS film was the price of the popcorn. $9 for a large popcorn! I almost $hat my panteloons.

I thought this franchise had hit rock bottom with The Last Key, but they decided to prove me wrong.

It's conflicting to see that the film that masqueraded itself as the grand culmination of this saga ends up being the most incoherent, the most banal and, above all, the least scary of them all.

Insidious: The Red Door is at heart a drama patched together with moments of horror rather than a true horror film. And most surprising of all, that approach could have worked wonders for it with a better script and a better director.

To be able to explore the aftermath of trauma for the father and son in this story had elements that could have been explored in a way that would have given a great twist to what this franchise had done in four previous films, but Insidious is Insidious and remains true to its predictable nature, and we have to settle for an assemblage of jump scares, abysmally dark sets where you can barely see **** a woefully underwhelming "final" showdown against the popular lipstick-faced demon, and an emotional catharsis that provokes nothing.

Rose Byrne only appears in a few sequences in this film and the tedium on her face in all of them reflects my own feelings.
This franchise had at hand the potential for a change, for a smooth metamorphosis that would have allowed it to reinvent itself, yet it opted for the path of least resistance, thereby surrendering to irrelevance.

Jason Blum said that after this one he would put the franchise to rest for a long time, but it seems that he forgot about the spin-off that was already announced.

I really like the first two Insidious films, but its clear that what made them work was James Wan and his unhinged direction. This plays out much more like a family drama and teenage angst film until a sloppy climax. Call it The Red Bore.

Sometimes turning a movie into a franchise is not good. This movie was good in its first two parts. From then on, the plot has become slow and boring, causing it to affect the quality of a film that could have been excellent

Would give this movie negative points if possible. 15 minutes in and they are actually mildly close to having a character building moment... and they throw some LGBT/Trans crap at the viewer with a racist twist. They throw a super cliche aggressive overbearing and conversation controlling black chick at the viewer.

They didn't even used to make black characters this annoying. I can already tell from the 1 minute of my life she wasted being overconfident and aggressive that she's going to be a main character in the movie and she's just going to mocking the males any chance she can get, to please the unattractive female and liberal audience members.

The Hollywood formula is so simple nowadays. Insert unattractive and aggressive minority character, try to make them seem attractive (never works), attack males masculinity or undermine them whenever possible, and profit! Yay for passive aggressive bullying!

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. It’s not a bad movie at all, but it isn’t as good as the first or the second movies. Not enough scare jumps to make me feel paranoid at night like the first one did… the story also felt a little disappointing, a little boring, especially towards the end… that ‘happy ending’, we didn’t want that. We don’t want Insidious to end. But all in all, still a solid 8 for me!
I’d still recommend it for newcomers and Insidious fans. People told me so many bad things about The Last Key, i decided to not listen to them, and that movie ended up being a solid 9 for me! Comes to say that you should not always care about what others say.

One last thing: we all stayed past the credits… it seems there might be another movie in the making. If you decide to watch this movie, make sure to stay past the credits, may be a short little clip, but it does make you think they are busy with another movie, hopefully a little better than this one.

Patrick Wilson's direction is very well crafted and, as a big fan of his, The overall storyline, writing, and Wilson's direction are very high quality. You can tell Wilson put a lot of tedious dedication, passion, quality, and thought into many scenes, and the tense ways they play out.

The franchise's intriguing theme of Astral Projection is done excellently here and there's plenty of emotional moments as well. Long term fans of Insidious, The Conjuring Universe, and Patrick Wilson in general are going to have a wild, terrifying ride The Red Door!

Most of all, The Red Door puts spotlight on Patrick Wilson as both an actor and director. I highly recommend you go see it. Perhaps the scariest film of the summer!

Thank You God Frequency for allowing Me to Tune into the directors Vision and the dedication and gratitude of the actors who approached these roles full heartedly. This Film is a carefully collaged embodiment of Art that charted new grounds of Horror and Did So Very Well, In The Further Very Classical with an approach that embodies the deepest meanings of family and our core values of love trust honor and forgiveness. Love Your Fathers With All Your Might!!!! ….and stay the freak out of the further, it’s no joke writing ourselves out of our own story. Honor. It’s everything. So I don’t know how much I’m aloud to cuss in these forums, so lightly “Now Get Your Ape Rumps To The Movie Theater, and Be Prepared For an 1:40 minutes to feel like three hours. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Disgustingly poor compared to all previous entries in the franchise. And yes, like everything else on earth right now, it's woke. Get ready for strong, independent black women...weak, emasculated white men, men being depicted as sexual deviants or being unable to 'seek help,' assaults on men by women which are supposed to be funny, and a man being nervous that he's accidentally sharing a room with a woman whilst she, in turn, has no fear and literally calls it 'liberal.' Oh, and the man studies art whilst the black woman studies maths...Sure. If you say so.

Wokety woke woke. Woke woke.

The fifth and final chapter of the "Insidious" series, which has now lasted for almost five decades, completes the origins of the series and is its right epilogue.
The operation is too derivative and partially successful. Although it does not amaze and does not present particular elements of novelty, it still works and does not disappoint.
The plot makes good use of situations and themes already used in the previous episodes (especially those proposed by the first two chapters), but does not find new narrative turns (the Elsewhere of the initial diptych, the demons who attack as a contact with the ancestors, the unconscious as area to meet them and settle accounts).
Patrick Wilson, here a rookie actor and director, effectively adheres to the stylistic features of the horror typology chosen by James Wan (here among the producers), demonstrates a good sensitivity for the subject and manages to create a discreet macabre atmosphere that enhances the figurative and metaphorical aspect of the film. Despite this, he is unable to make up for the limitations of a screenplay that is correct on the whole, but devoid of incisive ideas.
The work skilfully exploits the locations, the tensive aspect and exceeds in jump scares. The rhythm, even if at times devoid of fluidity and mysterious power, is excited; the quality phono-visual system; the well-developed psychological dynamics (the excavation into the past and into the unconscious of the two protagonists is very appreciable).
“Insidious: The Red Door” is very consistent with the first two films in the series. It re-proposes atmospheres, sensations, suggestions, fears and hopes; and combines horror with more intimate nuances (in the affective analysis that mixes incommunicability, errors and remorse).
In essence, the time elapsed between the second film and this one is taken into account, with all the emotional changes that this may have brought to the protagonists, especially Josh and Dalton. It is the relationship between them and the need not to forget but to face the traumas that characterize this chapter, with the horrors we witness taking the form of metaphorical obstacles on their way to reunion.
The path of father and son towards salvation is nothing more than a furious irruption into the unconscious, into the dark areas of the repressed or within family traumas, but also of what is morally inadmissible (possessed Josh who attacks his ex-wife and children), of what is repeated from generation to generation; and all for the sole purpose of seeking a definitive liberation. The focal point of the film is the perception of the past, of memory and what generates the darkest sequences.
As an actor, Wilson offers a very convincing performance that makes his character multifaceted. The psychic Elise Rainier is practically missing here (having died in the first chapter), but the good Lin Shaye is limited to a significant (double) cameo, like her historical assistants.
In conclusion, this filmic work is, especially for fans of the series, an enjoyable, interesting and engaging entertainment; while for all the other spectators it can well be considered an acceptable horror of the supernatural genre, very suitable for some thrills on summer nights. Score: 5.75

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Great plot. I liked the message about greed, but I think it could have been executed better. For example, I didn't really understand the scene were the President of Belarus tried to assault the girl (which says something because I'm above average intelligence so if I don't understand something, it's objectively a big deal). Lazy acting, but *wonderful* direction. Overall, I think it could have been more political than it was. 6/10. Expand
