With all due respect to Schelb and the others who have reviewed this film, we must assume that they have missed the point entirely. OnceWith all due respect to Schelb and the others who have reviewed this film, we must assume that they have missed the point entirely. When Immigration Tango begins, it does appear as a standard, though artfully written romantic-comedy. Once the first layer of this delicious onion is peeled away however, one begins to see the emergence of an exploration of man's fight against god in a battle for self-determination. What is particularly striking is the film wide metaphor of the moped as a vehicle for the soul, at one point literally carrying Avery Sommers, (who deserves an academy nod for her nuanced portrayal of Ms. Ravencourt) as the human conscience manifest. Another layer is peeled and we see Elena as not an object of physical desire, but a totem representing choice itself if only it can be grasped by Mike and therefore by us all. Kudos to the team that brought us IT! I sincerely hope that they bring us IT2 soon to see if we can hold on to our free will, or if it will be stripped away as a cruel illusion. Expand
