I'm Not Ashamed is another faith-based movie about the first victim of the Columbine High School shooting...mostly taking place BEFORE the shooting.
That sums up most of how this movie is sloppy on many levels. I can't think of any good character moments that occurred during this film because almost everything here acts more like time filler or is resolved in the next five minutes. Instead, the movie clings onto its encyclopedia of faith-based movie clichés, whether they are for character conflicts or resorting to hasty generalizations about things like Darwin's theory of evolution and survival of the fittest...which I have no choice but to make very clear.
The phrase, "survival of the fittest," was said by Darwin, granted, but in its context, it was talking about animals' success with reproduction. In its context, it can NEVER justify mass genocide or murder as the movie tries the lead viewers to believe. Another concept this movie never gets right is about atheism. Sure, the shooters made clear that they were atheists, but they also made clear that they were seriously hypocritical and they don't mind. My personal problem is that a belief regarding religion is mostly distinctive from political beliefs(except for a theocracy). Nazi Germany was mostly Christian (99%), but they were okay with mass genocide and adopting some far-right political policies. One can clearly tell through their journals that not only were the shooters of Columbine adoptive of neo-Nazi beliefs and policies, but they were found to be psychopaths (especially Eric Harris).
I may have spent the majority of this review debunking some of the ideas the movie tries to jab at the viewer, but that was part of the shortlist of things wrong with this movie. Unfortunately for this movie, Rachel Joy Scott was not a good focus for it. My suggestion as someone into psychology, the two shooters would have may much better focuses (my approach would be similar to that of Nightcrawler (2014) where the main character is nasty and hateful, but he does share something or another that people can sympathize with). This and other missed opportunities combined with a lack of meaningful substance make this movie an expendable candidate.

A solid young and talented cast is wasted on a bad movie. I'm familiar with Rachel Scott's story and the tragedy that happened when those 2 nutcases shot up Columbine and I feel like it's safe to say that she deserved better than this. WhatA solid young and talented cast is wasted on a bad movie. I'm familiar with Rachel Scott's story and the tragedy that happened when those 2 nutcases shot up Columbine and I feel like it's safe to say that she deserved better than this. What makes me mad about this movie is that it takes a tragedy that shook american culture and took the lives of 12 people, including Rachel Scott and uses it to push radical, christian propaganda. It takes liberties with the truth, it's been proven they never asked Rachel about god before they shot her to push a political agenda. It's sick and wrong and whoever rung up the idea to make this movie should be ashamed of themselves. Expand

I LOVE this movie so much, I will see it again tomorrow! It's inspiring, well made, not cheesy like a lot of faith films. It makes me want to make a difference. I can't think of a single person who wouldn't benefit from seeing this movie!

Taylor "Gabby" Kalupa said that she found my station from a pop up while surfer Facebook, that suggested she contact Racman Christian Radio. When I learned of this I thought, "I DIDN'T pay for advertising, but thank you God for open doors." This led to having Taylor on my show, led to having an interview with Cameron "Alex" McKindrey, which has led to my next interviews with Masey "Rachel" McClain and director, Brian Baugh! Now, I have just finished watching the inside pre-screening and I am beyond words for the message of the film. This is not a Christian film. This is a movie about a real girl; with real world struggles; whose life was snuffed out because she claimed her faith to the face of cowards who shot her. You must see this film: in theaters; on DVD; however, you can. Thank you to Beth Nimmo for being brave to share your daughter's true life for us to see! Expand

Being a teenager is so tough, and being a Christian teen is even tougher. Standing up for what you believe in is hard when you're surrounded by people that believe differently than you and ridicule you. Rachel Joy Scott stood up for her beliefs and did it with grace. But she was not a Pollyanna. She had some real struggles. Her life was not all roses. She dealt with heartbreak and struggles. This movie is a real look at her life and all the things teens are battling. The overall message of this movie is that there is hope - even in the face of tragedy. My teen daughters and I left the theater in tears and wanting to be better people. It was tough to see but super uplifting at the same time. Take a teen to go see this movie - in fact, take several and pay for their tickets. Seriously, they need a break. They need to know they are supported and loved. Expand

Life. For some people it is worth living for something!

Based on the journal of a person who had got killed in the 1999 shooting at a high school in the US. Really inspiring character and the story, till that final horror event. But the real shame was, the filmmakers used it to promote religious. Or maybe they have highlighted too much from the religious aspect. Because, her life and that horrific event connected with her unexpected prediction which are only a coincident, rather any miracle from heaven. I'm not against believers, but I anticipated honest, a reality, not fantasy.

So coming to the film, apart from misusing a real person's life, it was a nice film. Nice casting and performances. Masey McLain was so pretty and awesome in her role. Don't expect it to be the film about that 1999 shooting. It was not about that, except it had a connection as everything was built behind it. They have shown very little from that angle towards the end. Some of the real footage attached in those parts. Yeah, the end was emotional as expected. Everyone might not find it a good film for what I had told earlier, nevertheless the true story deserves some respect.

This kind of movie should come with a rating, DH50, meaning the heresies are so dangerous, no one under 50 should watch.

Absolutely vile, disgusting piece of Christian propaganda aimed to exploit a tragedy and a young lady who lost her life in that tragedy. Whoever made this movie should absolutely be **** ashamed of themselves. Let this poor girl rest
