Ice age is probably one of the best animated films of all time. Hilarious, great story line, great side-stories, great characters (they have really thought this one out, eh). Aside from the voices of the main characters, I think that theIce age is probably one of the best animated films of all time. This was a decent animated film, they should've left the Ice Age series alone after the first movie, it's successors make it look better than it originally was when I watched it.

This movie is awesome, and I'll never forget it. I don't care what anyone else says, it's one of my favorite movies of all time. EVER. :D It has a lot of charm, emotion, humor, it's perfect!

Dissimilar to the title, "Ice Age" is a warm-spirited tale of a group of animals so opposite of each other it leads to a burst of slapstick hilarity. Animated beautifully, and voiced right, it's a compassionate film for both children and adults.

It's kind of like a biological cartoon piece, similar to Land Before Time, but with a more mature cast and script, and time era of course. I have watched this movie last year and boy was I wrong about animated movies. This is a great story that embodied terrific characters and hired great actors to do a great job. The only thing I think could have been better is the animation.

Or how about the wolly mamoth, Manner (or Manny, or Manfred, or whatever your supposed to call him)? Didn't his personality and attitude remind you of Shrek of "Shrek"? And to top it all off, the "tear-jerker" of the movie. The movie was TRYING to be as heartwarming, and tear-jerking as "Monsters, Inc." but you just couldn't get that feeling when M (I wasn't sure what to call the mamoth so I settled for "M") remembers how his parents died, or when it looks as though Diego has died, or when M and co. bring the baby back to his dad. This is not a film I consider remarkable, but it's funny enough to not consider for lost the time I spent watching it. Although not easy to understand for young children, the film is appealing enough. Playing with the animals existing at the time, the script creates a situation, implausible but funny, involving a human child and a group of animals, predators and preys, united in a joint effort.

The characters are not the most interesting but Diego, a tiger torn between loyalty to his brothers and friendship with fellow travelers, and Manfred, a mammoth mourning his dead family, deserve some positive highlight, giving the film a touch of maturity. The more negative note goes to Sid, an unpleasantly greenish sloth, which associates a grotesque aspect to an endless collection of stupid moments. Unfortunately, this creature is the largest attempt to make this movie something funny. The intelligent humor of other characters works better, making more digestible a film that, without it, it would be quite silly. The squirrel can also be very funny.

The work of animators is regular and fulfills its role. The voice actors did a good job, particularly Leguizamo, who gave voice to Sid. The soundtrack hardly exists or stands out in the film.… Expand

That being said there are a lot better animated films out there so I’m not going to out of my to recommend it. Check it out if you are interested you will like it ok. I enjoy it although that might be due to having grown up on the film. Even so this is a first film for Blue Sky Studios and as a first film its not bad.… Expand

Masterpiece! For me it's almost the best CGI movie ever! I've seen Ice Age more than 20 times and am still laughing. It is so much fun for every age. Really? This movie can't have humour at all. Basically what you are supposed to watch is 80 minutes of no entertainment and terrible jokes throughout. The only good things are the voicing which is only 4 points. It is for me about 53%

They decide to bring the baby back to the tribe as they're being led by Diego who might have something up his sleeve. The story here is pretty basic and predictable, and there's no surprises here. There's also a subplot with a saber-tooth squirrel named "Scrat", and in it we follow his misadventures as he tries to get an acorn. Besides that, the plot here is nowhere near the creativity of Pixar. 5/10

Animation:
Unfortunately, the animation didn't really age well. Over 12 years after its release, it's animation is severely outdated with the colors and textures looking below average by today's standards. Even the character models look outdated. Good thing Blue Sky updated them in the sequel. Overall, it's animation may have been good back in 2002, but unfortunately, it didn't age well. 4/10

Characters and Comedy:
This is where things get better. When it comes to our 3 heroes, all 3 of them are likeable. And it's all thanks to that baby they have. That baby is the centerstone that this film needed as it's responsible for all the character development and heartwarming moments that this film has. Manny starts off as a grouchy mammoth, but as the film progresses, it becomes clear that he has a dark past that he tries to hide and that it's explained why he dislikes the baby at first. Diego was sent on an objective, but after spending time with the crew and the baby, he slowly opens up to them. Finally, Sid is the comic relief character who isn't too annoying and is generally funny. Manny and Diego eventually grow to like him as he tries to form a "herd" with them. There's also Scrat who is hilarious as his style of comedy resembles the Looney Tunes style of humor. He's silent, but with all the attempts he makes to get that acorn, he quickly becomes a big highlight of the film, and eventually Blue Sky"s mascot. So the characters are likeable and have a bit of depth, and the comedy is great here. 8/10

Sound:
The score is fine, but nothing memorable or amazing. 6/10

Acting and Casting:
All the voices here do a great job, even if John Leguizamo can become occasionally too much to bear. I also like Scrat's voice, so props to Chris Wedge for his voice. 9/10

Verdict:
Ice Age was a great start for Blue Sky Studios because of its great style of humor and great performances all around. Even though it's now a bit dated, this is an animated film that can still be enjoyed by everyone.

I also felt that some of the textures were very ugly and every times the movie tried to be taken serious it failed to be, I just scratched my head at all those scenes... but for the rest I found it to be a very fun and enjoyable movie overall.… Expand

To name a few: sentiment, pop-culture send-ups, characters who hide their affection for one another under layers of snark, and drawn-out setpieces virtually unimaginable in the field of conventional animation. Ice Age, a first stab at feature-length computer animation from Fox and director Chris Wedge, attempts to combine all of the above in a package not quite big enough for the cargo. Providing most of the sentiment, Ray Romano supplies the voice of a watery-eyed wooly mammoth named Manfred, a character largely inspired by John Wayne's lost-soul protagonist in The Searchers. Wandering disconsolately against the tide of migration, Romano picks up unwanted sidekicks in the form of an abandoned sloth (John Leguizamo) and, a bit later, a human toddler. After Leguizamo talks the reluctant Romano into returning the baby to its human tribe, they're joined by a sabertooth tiger (Denis Leary) with dubious motives and a soft spot the size of a glacier. The film looks great, but it only intermittently measures up to its Monsters, Inc.-with-metafauna potential. Better jokes might have redeemed its obvious plot, but instead of stuffing their film with clever moments, Wedge and his writers aimed the majority of the gags at the younger end of their potential audience. The result is a handful of poop jokes and lots of mugging from Leguizamo's sloth. Even the smarter gags, like the flock of survival-impaired dodos, depend on sight gags that are precision-timed but never particularly funny. Kids won't mind a bit, but adults accustomed to Shrek and Pixar will have no trouble spotting what's missing.… Expand

I think too many people compare this to Monsters' Inc and Shrek in terms of animation quality. The animation is spot on, and when I saw it at the cinema, the whole room were in hysterics in the first five minutes, because of Scrat, who was one of the funnier characters. The voice work is highly commendable, especially Ray Romano as Manny and Denis Leary as Diego. John Leguizamo has his moments as Sid. The script was well written, very funny, but sometimes especially towards the end, when the humour could have been more focused. I actually liked the sentimentality brought into the story. The baby, is one of those characters you love or hate, I warmed to him, but i never empathised with him. Although, I was really moved by the bit where Manny is seen staring at the drawing with the hunters killing mammoths. Anyway, the music score was perfect. All in all, a funny and sometimes touching picture, that had a tendency to get a bit slow, but overall this is misjudged by people. 8/10 Bethany Cox… Expand

This is pretty much the only movie in the franchise worth watching. It's witty and hilarious, the characters have depth, and there's a wholesome message about the importance of family that's capable of resonating with kids and adults alike.

Lo que mas me gusto fueron la química entre los 3 protagonistas, en especial Mani. Mani no llega a ser el típico "líder" y Diego me gusto como fueron manejando su personalidad en el transcurso de la película. Sin embargo, Sid llega a ser algo irritante, incluso en ocasiones parece Goofy y no llega a ayudar o resaltar en nada. También otra de las cosas que me gustaron fueron las escenas de Scrat la ardilla. Estas pequeñas escenas son muy entretenidas y se convirtieron en algo que caracteriza a esta saga. Lo único que puedo decir es que estas escenas son oro puro y todas valen la pena verlas.
Si bien faltan muchas cosas que se podrían mejorar o explotar como que cuenten un poco mas sobre la civilización o el pasado de Mani ya que la película lo toca pero de manera muy discreta, esta bastante buena, incluso a día de hoy. No la considero una obra maestra, pero entiendo a la gente que si, ya que tiene sus cosas únicas sobre las demás de su tiempo, e incluso ahora.… Expand

Instead, they center on the devilishly clever, exceedingly enjoyable interludes featuring a rodent in situations and circumstances that recall the great animated work of the recently departed Chuck Jones. In fact, it got to the point where I was becoming irritated by the movie's main plot - I wanted to see the squirrel again. All told, he makes about five appearances (totaling maybe 10 minutes of screen time). The rest of the movie is concerned with the escapades of a woolly mammoth, a sloth, a sabertooth tiger, and a human baby who tries unsuccessfully to be as cute as Monsters Inc.'s Boo. The journey, as is the case with many films, is more interesting than the end result and the film never gets boring. Ice Age is a welcome diversion for anyone seeking to watch old animated films.(Interesting animation film from 2002).… Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The ice age is one of my favorite films, both for its humor, and for its plot that presents itself to the public effective and full of gags.
In the film Manfred, a mammouth, Sid, a sloth and Diego, a tiger, must carry a human child to his father. The plot seems trivial, but the film is not at all trivial because it shows us many messages: friendship, loyalty, paternity, danger and the pain that life can cause us. The animation has some qualities, but it is inferior compared to the magnificent Pixar animations. Besides the animation, which is not bad either, the film is perfect because it is fun, moving and adventurous. In a nutshell The Ice Age is a perfect mix of comedy and drama!… Expand

Ice Age is one of my childhood animators. Even then, I was just fascinated by the squirrel, which will arrange a luxury intro for us here. The overall animation is cool for a while, but surprisingly also a very good story. Where the filmIce Age is one of my childhood animators. Where the film scored in my opinion are the main characters. Mammoth, sloth and saber-toothed. It may sound crazy, but it works, and while watching, I was able to build a relationship with this gang. Especially Diego plays a pretty interesting role here, but I don't want to spoiler the plot if you haven't seen this movie yet. But I can tell you that it's great and overall the end of this movie is great. A great movie for me that I can recommend.… Expand

Okay, let’s get it out of the way, it’s unfair to say that the animation is ugly, even for 2002 standards. The beginning sequence with Scrat has no sense of sunlight or nature to it, even though the weather was clean. The beginning sequence with Scrat has no sense of sunlight or nature to it, even though the weather was clean. After all, it was their first movie ever and even Pixar had the same issue with Toy Story (except the outdoors modelling was better EVEN IN 1995). The wordless story telling is extremely impactful and this one scene where they explain with no words how Manny lost his family to hunters and Manny seeing the baby as someone to protect to make up for his loss was extremely emotional and well written.


The character arcs are also very well developed with Manny’s already being explained, but I’ll add one more thing. He never mentions his family by word but his pain and remorse in the hunter backstory scene is made explicitly clear, again, without words. Diego goes from a villain, trying to lead the herd to a death trap or an ambush, learns to go past his villainy and even saves Manny in the climax.


We get to the plot less than 20 minutes in, which may be slow, but nowhere nearly as bad as the Dawn of the Dinosaurs, which took half an hour to get to the plot point mentioned in the title of the film. Ice Age is one of the greatest classic movies to be made and will remain a strong memory in my heart.… Expand
