That's Russell's real achievement here. As for the cast, score, design, etc. it's terrific. Well done, Mr. Russell. This film has a heart and a voice that is infinite. An undeniable classic that captures the times. Expand

Madly and refreshingly paced so not a scene, line, or even word is wasted in this mind-bending farce that had me giggiling and astounded. What a wonderful surprise -- I was astonished that so many critics were down on a film with so many tremdous actors giving tremendous performances. Every character delighted and every scene tingled with energy. This movie was so brisk to not allow a minute of boredom-- at times laugh out loud funny. Must see! Expand

Very much in line with "Rushmore" or "the aquatic life..." Great cast, great acting jobs, very pleasant.

This is in no way a great comedy, but it deserves credit for sheer lunacy. Zany, eccentric, absurd, goofy - I could pile on the adjectives. Zany, eccentric, absurd, goofy - I could pile on the adjectives. It is completely sui generis, which is probably a good thing. It focuses on Jason Schwartzman, a young activist and department store marketer (or something like that), who approaches an existential detective agency for help in making sense of his life. He battles it out with his boss, sales executive Jude Law and, well, the madness just goes on and on. Expand

I feel like saying that you might not be smart if you don't get this movie, but then again, I don't really get it either. Great philosophical headspace interspersed with some top performances from Marky Mark and Rushmore guy.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Overall I'd say that this is a very quirky and peculiar movie that is somewhat complicated and confusing and makes you wonder, with some good performances, its ok for what it is but it was a bit too much for me personally and afterwards I was left wondering 'what was that all about?'. Judge for yourself whether this is your cup of tea... to be honest this is about all I could think to say about this particular movie. Expand

this film is the ultimate in-joke. i have never thought about explaining the truth of existence in such a hilarious way. it may just change your world forever.

i am interested in knowing how many people involved in this film actually understood its significance while they were making it. Do you think all the actors knew how important it was? Certainly, Dustin Hoffman had some idea...he acted his character far too well....he must know the truth about the cosmic game he described.

the fact that movie so all-encompassing can exist is as unlikely as our very own existence....and leaves me a fuller person than i was before :)
