Since the majority of characters are antagonists, it's a hard movie to watch, but overall it shows the evils of the medical & care industry and how people pray on the elderly. At least it comes with poetic justice.

Corporatism/Neocapitalism is evil, and people will do everything in their power to destroy people to get ahead... so I get the moral of the story I suppose.… Expand

I have never nor do i think i will ever again leave a review for a movie.But my oh my this film sucks, i could write a lot about how or why does this film sucks so much so so much but i wont, i will only say this.The film was trying to shove matriarchal superiority of women down your throat for 2 hours straight, the vilain didnt get punished for their crimes and we didnt enjoy it, you will maybe say but thats life?But no thats not life the plot armor around the villain was so strong that there was not an inch of realism produced, the vilain could do anything be anywhere and win in every battle because of the plot armor the women supermacists producers of this film wanted.Most disgusting movie i have ever seen in my life.The vilain should be punished with the most horrible way and we should enjoy it, to at least take something of these 2 hours wasted just for these CLOWNS to try to portray women as something the invincible.I have no opinion about the matter but i will say this to all the producers of films like these ones.LAW.LAW is what saves you and the more you try to shove down our throat your new world order the more the law declines, until the day you see what you are WITHOUT!! the law.Okay bye bye now keep making those disgusting films.… Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I find it difficult to understand what this movie wants. At the beginning we are introduced into a life-destroying kind of scam perpetrated by a small group of greedy people led by a coldhearted sociopathic guardian (impressively portrayed by Rosamund Pike). If you are not a sociopath yourself, this part will make you angry (and make you wonder after a while why this is labeled a comedy). But then we watch how the lead couple after picking the wrong target (great: Dianne Wiest) defends itself against a Russian mobster played by Peter Dinklage. This doesn't work on an emotional level because the main characters are so disgusting. The only warm emotions can be found between the mobster and his mother, and the guardian and her lover - and it both cases most viewers won't get involved. And it gets worse: From the very beginning the movie wants you to believe that is much more than it really is, namely a deep analysis of modern American society. Its catering to a very dumb version of a left world view - which obviously some critics find convincing :-) The end is especially telling: The movie is not brave enough to end with her climbing to the top of the society. To comfort those poor souls who have a sense of justice she gets - well, what could take her down? Drawing on real stories we would say: a police investigation, investigative journalism, a traitor from within, or a trial. But as the message of this simple minded movie is 'if you have money, they cannot harm you' these won't do. So it is the lonely disenfranchised killer who brings 'justice', basically confirming an analysis which is the basis for all the stupid conspiracy theories one can find. This movie is labeled by Netflix as a LGBTQ. Probably because the main couple are lesbians. But while this can be important to win our emotions when the world is trying to keep them apart because they are lesbians, here it is just a random fact. Or because most men with the exception of the mob boss are depicted as mean, greasy or stupid. Again, this movie is supporting the most simple and primitive prejudices.… Expand

What a waste of time !
Full of plot hole. Multiple time, the protagonist is utilizing of deus ex machina to escape and decieve. The law is absolutely stupid, the bad guys are even more stupider. The only satisfaction in this movie is the end.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The movie start was actually not bad. Everything gone wrong the moment the main characters got in touch with the mafiioso from Russia. They are the worst gang that ever existed. They people are brain-dead. The main character's got caught by Hitman and it should be the end of the film. Hitman can't even wait to see if the main girl is actually dead. They were not under time pressure they could easily wait. If you want to see the classics about villains stupidity then this film is for you. And the ending is actually the worst thing if they just escaped I would give it 4 at best but it continues. They went after the mafiioso when they could escape with diamons. They would live with cash and start again! But no they went after him and they actually won xD. Like how is this possible. They don't have any self preservation instinct's. I don't even remember the names of the characters because they are so forgettable. I lived through it because I wanted them dead. At least the main character died at the end becouse of the guy from the start of the film. THANK YOU FOR THE FIRST GOOD MOMENT THAT ACTUALLY REDEAMS THIS thanks to that moment I gave this film a 1 instead of 0… Expand

This movie felt like pure evil, and just left you frustrated and annoyed as the villians win scene after scene. Sure Pike gets what’s coming to her at the end, but the director takes 2 hours to get there, when you wanted it 15 minutes into the film. Her “ get rich at all cost” (even gross elder abuse) attitude is digusting, and shouldn’t be promoted as this film does in fact do. You are never rooting for Pike and don’t want to see her every again.… Expand

Jusque là, ma foi, c’est tout à fait distrayant et la blonde Rosamund sait ce qu’elle sait faire de mieux, à savoir incarner une détestable manipulatrice, criminelle abjecte, cynique et impitoyable… Elle l’avait déjà (dé)montré dans ‘Gone Girl’ mais là, elle se surpasse et très rapidement, on la hait cordialement, très cordialement mais on la hait de toutes nos forces, elle et sa plus jeune copine bien entendu.

Il faut dire que le film est un panégyrique entier à son effigie, tout au premier degré, une glorification d’une immoralité sans bornes avec de forts relents féministes et LGBGTBQBGLGTQ à la clé… mais je doute que ça serve leur ’cause’ ou leur ‘réputation’, bien au contraire même…

Mais ce n’est pas, cela dit, le plus gros problème du film ; son plus gros problème, c’est son invraisemblance de tous les instants avec par exemple ce mafieux (russe) affublé d’un certain handicap qui n’en fait certainement pas un mafieux crédible (encore le symptôme d’un autre agenda SJW, je suppose…). Sans compter notre machiavélique Rosamund qui déjoue tous les plans de la mafia russe, triomphe de tout et… survit à tout… telle une super héroïne (du mal).

Faudrait quand même arrêter de nous prendre pour des cons… un petit peu quand même ! ou alors ce mafieux est un nain dans son domaine, incapable de régler le problème de deux petites connes qui viennent de marcher (sévèrement) sur ses plate-bandes. Ridicule ! Enfin… la fin tente de se dédouaner in extremis, histoire de se donner bonne conscience mais le mal est fait, depuis longtemps déjà… sans compter le rebondissement super bidon juste avant l’épilogue : putain de n’importe quoi !… Expand

Film had a good start and I loved Peter Dinklage in it. The ending and many plot holes throughout it ultimately lead the movie to being cheesy and absurd through multiple moments. This movie advertised its self as a movie where the protagonist, someone who enslaves and milks the elderly for money, eventually gets what she deserves after messing with the mother of a russian gangster. However, this is not the case at all. Instead, this movie tries to paint the protagonist as a strong lesbian woman who stands up to abusive men and is able to be successful in an unjust system. Just when you think these characters are heading to their demise, the protagonist and her girlfriend miraculously survive getting killed off, and actually end up better off. All these people taking advantage of the elderly become better off. The movie ends with the protagonist becoming a very "successful business woman". She ends up getting shot in the last scene, and I guess that should feel a bit satisfying if it wasn't for the fact that we were told earlier in the movie that she was not afraid to die. She didn't get to suffer at all or have any significant consequence to her actions. If you are masochist and enjoy no payoffs, you might enjoy this movie what it is.… Expand

Yeah there's going to be a lot of people infuriated with the "protagonist's" target, but what do you expect? A moral gangster and a regretful shark?
No, this is gritty and dark and decent story-telling. Not too heavy, either.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. You really want me to be entertained by the exploits of a manipulative lady imprisoning elderly people against their will? I’m supposed to be invested in the goals of a lady that liquidates their assets to fuel more of her scams? Really? Don’t tell me the movie doesn’t use film language to make you root for Marla. she’s always framed as some sort of bad ass, boss babe. “I’m not intimidated by men! They don’t expect a woman to stand up to them!” Who cares- you threw away your chance at making a “feminist” statement when you made a business out of imprisoning people. I’m not impressed by her at all.
Other reviewers keep saying something about satire? B**ch where? There were no moments where I found myself being persuaded through exaggerated circumstances. I hated Marla for what she did, and that never changed. a movie going, “LOOK AT THIS BAD PERSON THAT DOES THIS BAD THING!” Isn’t satire, it’s just stating reality. There was no twist that gave me a different perspective.
I expected some sort of karmic justice, some sense of retribution. An assassination is the very least Marla had coming. She even expressly states in the film that she isn’t afraid of death. Taking away her freedom, like she did to others, in some karmic fashion (for example) would’ve been satisfying and left viewers pondering. Why am I supposed to be okay with a half baked, predictable ending? The ending isn’t good enough to defend.
I hate her girlfriend too. Their romance is set up as some sort of beautiful thing. You can’t deny the pathos this Film gives its monster main characters. The scene where Fran pleads for Marla to pack so they can escape the consequences of their actions; Their steamy romance scenes; Marla sobbing over Fran’s unconscious body while whispering “oh baby no!”; the bit where Marla’s like “we can run away… or get revenge!” **** you can’t get revenge if people are giving you what you deserve. Okay, you’re hot, you’re a lesbian, you’re so stylish (the movie really wants me to see how goddamn stylish you are)- you’re actively ruining people’s’ lives and profiting off of it. Go break a leg while crossing a river and drown to death. I never rooted for the “protagonists,” I kept waiting for their demise. The mafia was weak af, would’ve killed Fran straight up or held her hostage as leverage against Marla. Or Peter Dinklage would’ve killed Marla the moment he had his mom back and Marla’s trust. OR the mafia would’ve sent MORE GUYS TO GET THEIR BOSS’ MOM AND DONE MORE RECCON SO IT WOULDN'T GO SO PISS POORLY. Bloated script too. I wanted to scream every time we had to watch Marla WORK OUT UUUUGH. Screenwriter had to direct because they were too embarrassed to pitch their script. “Oh it was so fun- oh it was so stylish and sharp!” How is it fun…? Cause it’s colorful and has pretty actors and crazy action scenes? That’s all some people need to gloss over the sickening premise? Not thoughtful screenwriting, good payoffs, and a clear message? The dialogue and plot weren’t even that polished. There’s some goofy ass lines in this movie that you’re supposed to take seriously. “She was a cherry… but there were to many strings attached… she’s becoming a spider!” Lmao wtf
Long story short, main character is in a business absolutely no one can rationalize. The film tells you through its language that Marla is an “anti-hero,” standing up against tough guys in the business world. But she isn’t. She’s perpetuating the system that creates the oppression that she also loves to make herself the victim of. There is no thoughtful story telling or character framing that makes this film palatable. Critics can call it slick and smart all they want- it’s nothing new. It’s a standard “outlaw goes against the grain” story. But the main character is not likable, NOR compelling. They gotta be one or the other. I’m not watching a movie where I don’t like anyone and I’m not compelled by their goals. Screenwriter expects the crazy visuals and fast talking to mesmerize you into buying their cynicism as “capitalist satire.”
Movie gets a 1 for actors only, story makes you feel disgusting. The only thing it was good for was making people aware of scams like this.
Better movies about awful people using barely legal methods to gain money/success/control:
-Nightcrawler (protagonist is inherently mysterious. He is disturbingly comfortable with immorality. It’s suspenseful to see his plans come together. Satirical take on “the american dream” and our obsession with work ethic.)
-Gone Girl (Characters are compelling without being likable. Nick is a cheater, but doesn’t deserve the death penalty. Amy is cunning and you get why she’s angry, but you know she’s a monster.)… Expand

The guardianship industry has hopped on to Metacritic with an unbelievable number of "sock puppets" to downgrade this movie.
It is very, very important that everyone understand that this movie has pulled the veil from a very, very corrupt guardianship industry. There are thousands of lawyers, judges, doctors, guardians, elder care professional, etc, etc that make billions and billions of dollars ripping off old people.

The guardianship industry has gotten completely out of control - so, a movie about it was inevitable. The plot is reasonably interesting. The acting is very good.

If you are unfamiliar with guardianship, you absolutely should watch this movie. It is an entertaining way to prepare yourself for the possibility that you may find yourself entangled in a guardianship nightmare. Do not imagine it can't happen to you.
By the way... apparently almost all of the people who wrote a User Review did not see the last 8 minutes of the movie - and, the last 8 minutes of the movie is important.… Expand

After seeing the wild variation in reviews here, I just had to add my two cents. Because these reviews are the reason why production companies are sometimes hesitant on taking risks on interesting ideas.

Let me start by clarifying a coupleAfter seeing the wild variation in reviews here, I just had to add my two cents. Because these reviews are the reason why production companies are sometimes hesitant on taking risks on interesting ideas.

Let me start by clarifying a couple of things:

1. Absolutely nobody that made this movie is trying to get you to root for the villainous main character just because she's a lesbian female.

2. Yes the characters are completely unlikeable - and that's entirely the point. This is essentially a revenge flick that views American capitalism for what it is - a playground in which most of the spoils go to those who are willing to trample on as many lives as possible to get to the top.

I Care A Lot was fun to watch from start to finish - it's vicious, very well written, and campy enough that my eyes were glued to the screen the entire time despite the lack of any likeable characters. This movie works in spite of that because characters don't NEED to be likeable! They just need to be interesting. And this movie has interesting characters in spades.

If there's anything I could fault here, it's that the movie gets a little... ehh... distracted around the middle? Without spoiling anything, there's a half hour chunk of the movie where it pivots from something sort of Kill Bill-ish to something sort of Tom and Jerry-ish. It's wild and entertaining - I certainly wasn't bored - but it doesn't really add much to the movie other than an extra required suspension of disbelief, which the movie was already a bit aggressive with at times. But overall - this is an entertaining, wild, mean, witty, and suspenseful, albeit somewhat unfocused, ride that I would recommend to anybody that prefers their movies a little less formulaic/predictable.… Expand

There is so much hate for this movie... I must just be that much of a masochist then for enjoying it. I really like Rosamund Pike so this rating is probably biased from the get-go. She eventually targets the wrong person, and her pursuits lead to an interesting cat-and-mouse game versus the crime lord Roman Lunyov (Peter Dinklage). The film feels like it took a lot of inspiration from the TV show American Greed, which is CNBC's shocking true crime series that examines the dark side of the American Dream.

The film overall is quite engaging and the plot is sure to keep you thoroughly captivated with its interesting twists and turns. Rosamund Pike wonderfully plays another vicious, cunning character similar to her past work in Gone Girl (2014), and as a viewer, you may either really hate her or respect her hustle, but no matter what she does a great job at leading the show with her skills. Peter Dinklage, who although shows his continual tact and range as an actor in the film, I felt that his character was written in such a way that seems too unrealistic for a ruthless leader of a criminal organization. This goes for all characters in the film related to the criminal organization since they come off as rather weak.

The story is rooted in exploring the lives of people with no morals, so if you can't get past that behavior, then I'd say do not watch this movie, but if you don't mind seeing a ruthless scammer at work and a crime boss coming after her, then be prepared for an entertaining watch, where you always want to know what will happen next.… Expand

I’ve seen plenty of bad ones and good ones without feeling this way because it almost seems the criticism is unanimous. But this film, the amount of “certified reviews” that praise this film for being “brave” and “bold”.... just because the lead role is an intelligent, conniving, homosexual female empowering women with a take-home message; there still has to be a real story to tell. I have no problem with said character, in fact I applaud it. However, this film does the opposite. Yes, the premise portrayed does exist and begs questions for its ideas. I love that. But the realism of the film quickly goes out the door like that of an early 80’s action flick.… Expand

Really awful... I love Peter Dinklage, but he owes me a drink for sitting through that.

Being a lesbian doesn't somehow vindicate the moral bankruptcy of grifting the elderly.

Poor character development, awful story, and an abysmal ending = 1/10.

It is quite rare that I have wished karma so strongly upon a villain, and the film almost robbed me of the satisfaction until the big payoff. At the very least, the dignity to grow old with freedom should be a human right. I wonder how deep this exploitation goes today, in the US and across the world. The film should be credited for shining light on a very dark corner of society and the legal system.… Expand

When Pike dies at the the hands of a grieving son I understand the irony, but after spectacularly avoiding the russian mob for the entire movie it is just a stupid way for the movie to end. The best thing about the ending is it make it impossible to write a sequel. The holes in this movies plot are numerous. In the first hour, I really care a lot about elders and decided to get married then have a very big family in the future but thing get worse in an unrealistic way that I have never seen before. There's ton of better ways to end the movie but they choose the worst one.
The protagonist was acting actually good. Her girl friend Fran is cool but unnecessary, just exists to show that the protagonist is lesbian.
The most nonsense thing I'm still wondering is the tooth, the serious scene that she keeps it in the milk just to recover her teeth later. Does it have any goal beyond my knowledge or it just a dental tip I should remember in case a Mafia guy slap in my face???… Expand

I Care a Lot...for Dianne Wiest freedom. There's not a single likable character in this whole movie for me to latch onto. So, at the end I didn't care...hehe. I also found the message of the movie confusing, because it has that empowering feel to it, like a "girl boss moment!", even though they are either doing awful things and how none of it was earned, which rubbed me the wrong way. It sends out the wrong message that doing terrible things or destroying other people’s lives (not just the bad guys) is OK, I guess.

It also doesn't help this was written by a dude named J Blakeson, a dreadful screenwriter who's previous writing credit was the unnecessary sequel to 'The Descent'. So yeah, this wasn't in good hands at the start.

This is honestly the most annoying movie experience I've had in a while. So shallow and empty.

Just watch 'Promising Young Woman' instead.… Expand

The level of stupidity that was required to write this movie; to think a Russian mobster (who’s also sex trafficking- why ever they added that) would partner with a lady that is torturing his mom & tried to kill him (which by the way, you’re gonna tell me this girl managed to kidnap a Russian mobster, subdue all his guards, leave him on a trail, and somehow be appointed his guardian?) and not absolutely murder the sh*t out of her on sight? Not only was this movie written by a toothbrush, but the acting is absolutely awful. They literally said let’s get the wife from Gone Girl and make her a psycho scumbag nursing home scammer but make the actor absolutely suck during the whole thing and then add terion from game of thrones and we got a hit. No, the only hit you have is what I wanted to do to my TV with a baseball bat after watching this piece of trash. This movie is so bad I will never be able to watch game of thrones again, I may never even watch another movie again with the fear that something I watch could be 10% as bad as this movie. When I am on my death bed I will look back on the day I watched this movie and not only think how badly those two precious hours of my life were wasted on this movie, but I will likely wonder one last time how anyone could have created such a horrible, steaming piece of sh*t movie, and then I will die. As I started watching this movie, I looked at these reviews since I saw such a difference between the user and professional scores . The low rating user reviews talked about how thing that happened were stupid and unlikely but I decided eh I’ll watch it through see if they’re right. Up until the last 15 or so minutes I was fine with the movie. Sure the main character surviving the car drowning or even her girlfriend not dying from the gas didn’t make since but I could deal they were unlikely but I still assumed the ending would be ok. So I keep watching and get to them going to the drivers house and I get slightly annoyed at how something makes since with one him not hearing the phone hit the ground but that ok it’s a slight thing i could explain it away. Then they’re able to follow the driver of a mod boss with ties to the Russian mafia without the guy realizing he’s getting tailed, now that’s what really started tanking my thoughts of the movie. I had the movie at a 9 in my head at the start. It had great writing a cool use let’s see this **** up person get killed by another one cool. Then after that driver scene combined with the other **** it went down to a 6 for me not great but ok then the very last few scenes happened. So you mean to tell me that a mod boss has a driver and body guard incompetent enough to be tased as well as a zero no cameras or other body guards. Oh then next you’re telling me a two girls that do guardianship have easy access to drugs that will knock you out as well as ones strong enough to cause a near overdoses in a person. Then the fact that this mob boss decides to work with a woman who nearly kills him, stole his mother’s money and freedom, and stole his millions in diamonds. The only reason my rating is this high is because I really enjoyed the beginning half of the movie otherwise I’d be siting pretty at 0… Expand

The movie forgets that she is the bad guy until the last possible minute just for the random guy at the beginning to shoot her dead in the street. She dies happy, rich, and in the arms of her lover, so the pay off is not at all worth it.

Also for someone who's job it is to take care of the elderly, she's really good at taking out Russian mobsters. Yes someone in the writers room actually wrote that as a plot point for her. Dont waste your time.… Expand

The super-assassin (female of course) knocks the protagonist's car off the road, and then apparently assumes, "Well, the car left the asphalt, clearly shes dead".

Every scene is like this.

I promise I'm not review-bombing this. I watched it because my spouse wanted to watch it. It's just dumb. I don't mind entertainment with dislikeable characters, like Breaking Bad, when motivations, actions, and sequences are believable. This is not. Pike and Dinklage can both act, but I don't know how they delivered half of their lines without laughing. Suspension of all belief is a must in almost every scene.

I can watch many things that suspend reality, but if the core premise of your movie falls apart at scrutiny, most sequences become impotent. It's like a horror movie where they can easily escape the monster, but choose not to leave. Okay, I can get on board with that if there is at least a semi-good reason (Jaws) but this film is only filmed with reasons to not watch it.

Oh, and while they may have been trying to empower women, it just kind of makes women (and lesbians) look like terrible people. Kind of like Hollywood's history of typecasting villains with gay undertones (look it up). Personally I think we're in a "streaming gold rush" right now and they're all competing for content. We now have exhaustive lists, but the quality has been sharply dropping. This garbage is a perfect example.… Expand

Difficult to like this story about systemic elderly abuse and its manipulators. In that context, the story is fast paced with superb actors giving believable performances. It ticks all the boxes with emotion, action, love & hate.

BUT the second half is just silly and boring, who am I even rooting for? The abuser or the mafia? Not the mention that it does astonishingly poor job (and I mean really weak) at convincing me about the mafia being powerful or scary, quite the contrary, just a bunch of clumsy clowns, no strength at all. Also our protagonist gets out from every single situation, but how?

I feel like the goal with this was to appeal to the poor people who are angry at the rich but completely ducks up with this heartless elder abuse. The whole thing just falls apart, I would give 7-8 to the first half but 3 to second one.

(Overly)Cheap thugs, storyline doesn't make sense, seems disorganized, music is unpleasant and obviously"indie" but not the cool indie, it was just a pain to watch,, I really appreciate metacritic having a 0, this is the first movie I've ever reviewed here, but I can't say it enough, just don't watch it, nothing good happens, nothing worth watching, it is like going and sitting down at walmart for 2 hours and just watching the people walking in and out at the Mcd's in the front of it, but without any food or drink, completely unpleasant, unrefined, not flowing well, and just a big waste of time.the only people who will like it are fat people who are aggressively lesbian and are tired of losing at everything, it is just a weird weird movie, and that seems to have been the goal.… Expand

Unfortunately since the very moment both girls were caught and miraculously survived their executions, writing was extremely disappointing. Last 30-40 minutes of the movie is a joke, writers are mocking the audience and even the street execution of the protagonist at the very end changes nothing. Huge disappointement.… Expand

I had to create an account to rate this movie because it’s THAT bad it cannot go unnoticed. And yes, there are bad things happening to elders but it wasn’t helpful in ANY way. it was awful too long and no one in the movie had any redeeming not a single. And I am fine discussing stories of bad people but how is it possible that she didn't have one good quality. The more you see her succeed the more you will feel bad. This movie neither had the depth or script to explain what was going on. Basically, the storyline was so bad that the good performances by the characters were undermined. Plus one character that was totally unnecessary was fran she had no character no personality… Expand

It reminds me of the short angsty stories 15 year olds would write in their bedrooms at 3am pretending to be mature by setting such a pessimistic tone and having the characters be cruel for the sake of being cruel.

The introduction and the first half of the movie started off good, there seems to be a lot hinting towards a plot twist, however all your expectations are subverted in the last 20 minutes of the movie in a rushed, messy clean up that is ultimately incredibly unsatisfying. There is no one for you to root for, and the movie seems to be pushing you strongly to root for Marla despite her own deplorable actions. It seems to me that it wants to send a message of the extent of exploitation of elderly, vulnerable people by the terrible healthcare system we currently have, and it has succeeded. However, I felt that this has wasted so much potential of the characters. There is so many scenes pointing towards Jennifer being such a 'well read' and 'literate' woman, so there was an expectation that perhaps she could somehow work the system from within, but that expectation is swiftly crushed when it was revealed that she is no more than a sitting duck. If this was not frustrating enough, she has further worsened her own situation in such an illogical move, which makes it all the more frustrating to watch.
The main character, Marla, honestly feels like a Mary Sue as well, especially with how the plot seems to bend over backwards to make her succeed despite all odds. >Roman was shown as a powerful man with connections (the lawyer) and men that would work for her (the henchmen, who are obviously experienced and trained) but through sheer luck was Marla able to escape almost unscathed to make a grand return and stalking Roman's driver and infiltrating the building Roman resides in, in a move that you would expect to see from a spy movie rather than an amoral businesswoman. But she succeeds, again, obviously.

This movie called itself a black comedy, a satire, but it couldn't even get it's own genre right, nor is it funny in the slightest. I watched this in a room full of people and not a single person laughed.

Not to mention how aggressively the director pandered to the entire 'female empowerment' in the movie, it is not subtle, it is directly in our faces. Normally, writers would try to 'show, not tell' but no, this movie just had to spell it out in our faces, as if it cannot be more obvious.
The acting of the supposed 'misogynist men' in the movie seems intentionally terrible as well. When Mr Feldstrom appeared in the final scenes of the movie to shoot Marla, it feels to me like there is barely any emotional weight and his script felt lame and half-hearted. This makes me think that the director is intentionally trying to dismiss the cruel things Marla has done in order to sway the audience towards her, again.

Also, having such deplorable characters be written as lesbian seems to me like a half-hearted attempt at getting us to root for them, which honestly, is a terrible move in my opinion.

All in all, a terrible movie. It might have prompted dialogue on the abuse of elderly, but it is done in such an inorganic way it certainly fit the bill of satire. Now, if only it was funny.… Expand

If an allegedly ruthless Russian mobster has you at his mercy after you mess with his family there is not much chance you are walking away. The mobsters in this film are a joke. Honestly it could have been good but they made Marla too invincible to the point of ridiculousness. Do better.… Expand

I Care a Lot was one dark and twisted movie fueled by superb acting and writing. Rosamund Pike's performance was phenomenal, she does a great job at creating a complex and deeply powerful and twisted character. The movie features some flaws in the execution, but with Rosamund Pike's funny and grim performance, I Care a Lot earns extra points. (And she just recently won the Golden Globe for best actress in a comedy or musical).

I can completely understand the hate this film is getting from viewers, honestly while watching it I expected it…
Getting attached to main characters that are just the worst kinds of human being is so f**king hard.

TBH from time to time while watching the film my mind wondered to what awful the main characters was, but I would lie if I say I didn't enjoy this film.
It was trilling, griping and with amazing actors.
I think the best thing to do with this film mainly because of the controversy in it is to see it and decide for yourself, and come on its on Netflix worst case stop it and watch Gone Girl ;)… Expand
