This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I liked the film. It has some inconsistencies and the plot on which it is based on is not very consistent or realistic. Nevertheless the film has some very interesting, multi-dimensional and downright bad ass characters. The film is funny when it needs to be, scary and thrilling when it needs to be, unpredictable at times and emotional as well. I enjoyed it. Expand

This movie is basically a game of cat and mouse which, in my opinion, eventually leads to a satisfying ending right as the credits appears.
Cinematography is as decent as it can be I suppose.

Yeah, this movie ain't for everybody, but... Yeah, it's not for everybody. Still doesn't stop me from enjoying it.

She eventually targets the wrong person, and her pursuits lead to an interesting cat-and-mouse game versus the crime lord Roman Lunyov (Peter Dinklage). The film feels like it took a lot of inspiration from the TV show American Greed, which is CNBC's shocking true crime series that examines the dark side of the American Dream.

The film overall is quite engaging and the plot is sure to keep you thoroughly captivated with its interesting twists and turns. Rosamund Pike wonderfully plays another vicious, cunning character similar to her past work in Gone Girl (2014), and as a viewer, you may either really hate her or respect her hustle, but no matter what she does a great job at leading the show with her skills. Peter Dinklage, who although shows his continual tact and range as an actor in the film, I felt that his character was written in such a way that seems too unrealistic for a ruthless leader of a criminal organization. This goes for all characters in the film related to the criminal organization since they come off as rather weak.

The story is rooted in exploring the lives of people with no morals, so if you can't get past that behavior, then I'd say do not watch this movie, but if you don't mind seeing a ruthless scammer at work and a crime boss coming after her, then be prepared for an entertaining watch, where you always want to know what will happen next.

After seeing the wild variation in reviews here, I just had to add my two cents. Because these reviews are the reason why production companies are sometimes hesitant on taking risks on interesting ideas.

Let me start by clarifying a couple of things:

1. Absolutely nobody that made this movie is trying to get you to root for the villainous main character just because she's a lesbian female.

2. Yes the characters are completely unlikeable - and that's entirely the point. This is essentially a revenge flick that views American capitalism for what it is - a playground in which most of the spoils go to those who are willing to trample on as many lives as possible to get to the top.

I Care A Lot was fun to watch from start to finish - it's vicious, very well written, and campy enough that my eyes were glued to the screen the entire time despite the lack of any likeable characters. This movie works in spite of that because characters don't NEED to be likeable! They just need to be interesting. And this movie has interesting characters in spades.

If there's anything I could fault here, it's that the movie gets a little... ehh... distracted around the middle? Without spoiling anything, there's a half hour chunk of the movie where it pivots from something sort of Kill Bill-ish to something sort of Tom and Jerry-ish. It's wild and entertaining - I certainly wasn't bored - but it doesn't really add much to the movie other than an extra required suspension of disbelief, which the movie was already a bit aggressive with at times. But overall - this is an entertaining, wild, mean, witty, and suspenseful, albeit somewhat unfocused, ride that I would recommend to anybody that prefers their movies a little less formulaic/predictable.

Seeing the ugly truth exposed in all its vile splendor may be hurtful and shocking, but sometimes it's a necessary wake-up call for the betterment of our collective well-being, as this cynical, darkly satirical comedy and social commentarySeeing the ugly truth exposed in all its vile splendor may be hurtful and shocking, but sometimes it's a necessary wake-up call for the betterment of our collective well-being, as this cynical, darkly satirical comedy and social commentary illustrates on the nature of predatory capitalism. When the owner of a shifty legal guardianship agency adept at fleecing wealthy seniors afflicted with mental health issues meets her match in an equally crafty nemesis with nefarious connections, a war of wits breaks out for domination and control of the situation, regardless of who might get hurt in the process. While the film starts to go off the rails somewhat in the second half, its wicked humor makes clear the ruthlessness inherent in the practices of this economic system, both on a personal and a global geopolitical scale. What makes the film, though, are its superb performances, especially those of Rosamund Pike, Dianne Wiest and Peter Dinklage. Some may find the content and message of this offering troubling, but that's simply the movie doing its job. It stresses the need for us to shed our Pollyanna attitudes, no matter how disillusioning that might be. Indeed, it reminds us of the old adage that it's easier to fool people than to convince them that they've been fooled. Expand

The epitome of capitalism runs amok, bulldozing over the shattered remains of extended families. I had no idea the insidious legal mechanism of guardianship was able to so easily rob elders of their freedoms and imprison them, to be bled until death. It is quite rare that I have wished karma so strongly upon a villain, and the film almost robbed me of the satisfaction until the big payoff. At the very least, the dignity to grow old with freedom should be a human right. I wonder how deep this exploitation goes today, in the US and across the world. The film should be credited for shining light on a very dark corner of society and the legal system. Expand

You will hardly let out any giggles during the projection. In fact, most of the time, the film causes much more disgust. Not exactly a comedy. However, the agile direction, the pop language and the cartoon characters are traits of comedy as a genre and, therefore, distance the film from the drama. However, the chases, tortures and action sequences suggest the thriller's place. But how can I say that this production is just a thriller, if there are so many comic and dramatic elements? Expand

You weren't supposed to ever like the characters. The script was darker than most people expected but it did a wonderful job of showing the realistic view of elder abuse and how easily it can happen. Also with the critics stating that they didn't like how two dumb women got with a mob boss. One they were extremely innovative about their moves. They both came from a **** up past leading them to be more set to take on the world from a fu up view than your average individual. Bad people get in bed with bad people. Again it portrays realistic view of the world. Which many people don't wNt to think about. Especially when they went to the movie thinking it waS going to be a much different story. Was I fan of the end of the movie not really i thought it was a let down but due to the fact I can't think of how I wanted it to end. Props to the writers with whT they did. Expand

TBH from time to time while watching the film my mind wondered to what awful the main characters was, but I would lie if I say I didn't enjoy this film.
It was trilling, griping and with amazing actors.
I think the best thing to do with this film mainly because of the controversy in it is to see it and decide for yourself, and come on its on Netflix worst case stop it and watch Gone Girl ;)

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The best part of I Care A Lot is when Marla gets murdered. Finally, an event she can’t undo and retaliate ten times worse because she’s already dead. If your fond of movies where the heroine is a villain who’s just as narcissistic as she is selfish then this is the movie for you. Honestly, it’s a great plot because you feel so deeply for the character and I really hate Marla very deeply. It’s a great movie but ding dong the witch is dead still sings in my heart at the end. I'm surprised at all the negative reviews from users on here, the film was meant to be cause viewers to despise both main characters, and it succeeded. Rosamund Pike is excellent as Marla, in what feels like the unofficial sequel to "Gone Girl".

Wow!! this is spooky! There are over 300 User Reviews for a movie that very few people know exist. Almost no movie gets that many User Reviews - especially one that almost nobody has heard of.
I just read through the User Reviews for this movie.
The guardianship industry has hopped on to Metacritic with an unbelievable number of "sock puppets" to downgrade this movie.
It is very, very important that everyone understand that this movie has pulled the veil from a very, very corrupt guardianship industry. There are thousands of lawyers, judges, doctors, guardians, elder care professional, etc, etc that make billions and billions of dollars ripping off old people.
******************************************************************
Below is my original review before I realized that the corrupt guardianship industry has taken over the User Reviews for this movie.
******************************************************************
The guardianship industry has gotten completely out of control - so, a movie about it was inevitable. The plot is reasonably interesting. The acting is very good.

If you are unfamiliar with guardianship, you absolutely should watch this movie. It is an entertaining way to prepare yourself for the possibility that you may find yourself entangled in a guardianship nightmare. Do not imagine it can't happen to you.
By the way... apparently almost all of the people who wrote a User Review did not see the last 8 minutes of the movie - and, the last 8 minutes of the movie is important.

Once she has them under her financial control in a care facility, she cashes in on all their assets. The scheme is netting her plenty, until she targets the wrong woman (Dianne Wiest). Then the surprises begin! Once things get going, it’s not clear who’s bad and who’s good, but that’s part of the film’s charming wickedness. Pike is wonderfully slick and evil, Wiest is delicious and Peter Dinklage revels in his over-the-top character. Writer/director J Blakeson has crafted a script that keeps topping itself with skillful surprises. His direction makes every scene slick fun. A work of art.
Yeah there's going to be a lot of people infuriated with the "protagonist's" target, but what do you expect? A moral gangster and a regretful shark?
No, this is gritty and dark and decent story-telling. Not too heavy, either.

Rosamund Pike plays a scumbag character, and the film is basically about a criminal enterprise.

Since the majority of characters are antagonists, it's a hard movie to watch, but overall it shows the evils of the medical & care industry and how people pray on the elderly. At least it comes with poetic justice.

Corporatism/Neocapitalism is evil, and people will do everything in their power to destroy people to get ahead... so I get the moral of the story I suppose.
