I saw House of Gucci and I can say that the film is supported entirely by Gaga and Al Pacino, each in his character, Jared Leto plays a good role, but sometimes he manages to look exaggerated especially in his accent. Everyone had a debate about Gaga's accent, but Adam's is almost non-existent and bad in the whole movie, very questionable, in short, the others in the cast do it well. Ridley Scott is, perhaps, my second favorite direct, although the direction fulfills its objective, it is not the genre of film that is very good. Bentivegna has a very good script and not at all complicated. Dariusz Wolski your cinematography is so good, man, but Claire, your editing and editing kills how great House of Gucci could be, although I don't give you all the credit; the story is very long, it would have been a better option to make it a miniseries of 5 chapters, 1 hour each, but hey, there is no going back. The soundtrack is not surprising, it is just a handful of songs through the 3 decades that the film spans. I do not think it is the best movie in which Gaga appears, but it is in House of Gucci her true debut, where she breaks free from the character of a singer and immerses herself in one where they have no resemblance. I think that what I had the least faith in turned out to be the best.… Expand

This was the movie I most expected to see this year and although it didn't blow my mind, it met my expectations.

The script is messy and somewhat confusing. The edition is not well worked. And the tone is almost undefined, you don't know if it's a drama, a comedy or a soap opera.

But I have more positive points, than negative ones. Starting with the performances: Lady Gaga is EXQUISITE AND **** WONDERFUL, Al Pacino and Jeremy Irons shine and Adam Driver does so well. Jared Leto is a disastrous cartoon.
Photography is quality. Hairdresser and Makeup of 10 and hypnotic costumes.
It is a compelling story, it is long but it does not become dense, you hardly notice its duration. Entertaining from start to finish.

I needed a bit of a more Italian soundtrack and more present in the film and I would have liked to see more of Pina's character.

Even so, the movie seemed incredible to me. I think that with the passage of time it will be better valued. We'll see if I'm right ...… Expand

A very successful film, based on a true story, although in my opinion somewhat distorted. The cast is phenomenal and the setting of Italy is beautiful.
The English with Italian accent is handled with bravado.

This was an excellent movie. The acting, the sets, the direction, the pace, all of it! That you might not be interested in rich Italians so perhaps this movie wouldn’t be for you. Interesting story about a family that end up losing their jewel, the Gucci brand. At times i felt that it could have been better edited and paced. Ridley Scott directs this true crime story about Patrizia Reggiani (Lady Gaga) and her marriage into the esteemed Gucci family. Hot off his last film from last month 'The Last Duel', Scott returns with yet another historical epic of sorts, albeit one that's much less gritty and more lavish and lush with hints of 'The Godfather' sprinkled throughout. And while the period and production is beautiful to look at, and Scott clearly has a keen eye for detail like usual, storywise and tone-wise, the film falls somewhat short of the exciting and consistent grit that was maintained in 'The Last Duel'. The film is sometimes serious and means business but other times comes off as corny and melodramatic, no thanks in part to a somewhat weak script and hammy dialogue and noticably forced Italian accents from some of the actors, which brings me to the performances. Lady Gaga shines here quite well, even if she didn't quite nail the accent in my opinion, and Adam Driver is also excellent as usual here. And while Jared Leto is completely unrecognizable here and completely inhabits his character here, his accent and acting was really over-the-top for better or worse. Rounding out the rest of the supporting cast is veteran actors Salma Hayek, Jeromy Irons, and Al Pacino, who all turn in noteworthy performances of their own. Overall, the film is very well put together, and the cast assembled here is especially impressive, but the indecisive tone and at times questionable acting/accents from some of the actors hindered the film's potential, and the script really does leave a bit to be desired… Expand

Good Movie, great cast. Adam and Lady Gaga played their roles really well but Jared Leto stole every scene he was in. I never knew what had happened to the Gucci's so it was pretty eye opening especially the ending.

And Why is nobody talking about Pacino I think he was great one of the best even more than Leto I really enjoyed Pacino's performance. But even with those individualities I think the movie felt too long and bored at some point but maybe that's just me is just my honest opinion. If I were to rank my fav performances it is as it follows: Gaga, Pacino, Salma( although it was short, she killed it, she should do more of this genre it suits her), Adam, Leto and Irons. I definitely still believe the movie is going to be nominated for awards: Gaga definitely. I don't know why people are praising Leto that much( not to take any merit off) the transformation was great but I think his performance felt a bit exaggerated. Pacino connected more with me and i believe it should be nominated for sure what a performance just wao.… Expand

A small flirtation turns into tragic love under the banner of the House of Gucci, steeped in power, intrigue and family troubles. If you don't know the story surrounding the drama, you shouldn't read anything about it beforehand, but watch the film without any knowledge, even if it takes liberties in the narrative.

The movie has some cool and funny moments as well as stylishly shot backgrounds and snazzy music. In addition, the film has some wacky acting interludes and the fake dialect actually sounds okay in the original soundtrack, but sometimes it comes across as too fake. All of this actually fits quite well with this ego-driven and completely crazy world of fashion in the Gucci family.

But from the middle of the film everything is told so quickly, there are always jumps, because the film also wants to pack a lot and it became more and more exhausting over time to still enjoy the bizarre moments. For me personally, that led to the film losing me a bit, becoming less important and the drama no longer really comes into its own. I still think the style of the film is worth seeing, but I have to say that from the middle it loses more and more of its tension and despite the fast-paced narrative, there is a tiring protraction and the drama no longer really unfolds at its climax.

It's really a shame, because the beginning, getting to know each other, etc., was staged very nicely and underlines the film's strengths.

Eso sí, si no te interesa el tema en cuestión, y tampoco te van en exceso las películas algo lentas, sin duda no es para ti.

· Cosas buenas: la maestría de la dirección artística, tanto escenarios, que van evolucionando con el paso de los años, como vestuario, peinados... La estética es maravillosa vaya, además, lo ya mencionado, las interpretaciones son realmente buenas.
· Cosas malas: el ritmo es bastante irregular, se para en muchas cosas que hace que empatices mucho con la situación, pero se puede hacer algo lenta, además, el desenlace está contado de una forma algo rápida de más.
· Conclusión: Si te pica un mínimo la curiosidad, ve a verla, te va a gustar, es muy difícil buscarle cosas malas sin contar el ritmo, funciona muy bien, pero claro, tienes que tener ese ápice de curiosidad.… Expand

I was curious enough to watch this after it became available on a streaming provider I have access to - I know it doesn't get great reviews. The cast is good, the scenery is lovely, the accents perhaps less so but most of all the story is a bit uninteresting, I thought. It has a typical Hollywood biopic feel to it but there isn't too much in the way of tension and action to keep the viewer gripped. Its a case of portraying the life of the well to do's - it'd be fair to say I didn't feel any real emotional concern for the characters, although I was mildly curious to see what happened to Patrizia, who marries in to the Gucci name but I think my interest was mainly in terms of seeing Lady Gaga portray her, as I don't think she's done many roles, other than being one of the lead characters in 'A Star Is Born' some years ago. My favourite character from the Gucci family is definitely Paolo, played by Jared Leto.

I thought the soundtrack was alright - some nice classical/instrumental pieces played at times. All in all, this isn't really a memorable film, it has a sterile Hollywood feel to it and the plot isn't entirely gripping by any means but its watchable and features a good cast, so its not entirely uninteresting. An ok watch, I wouldn't entirely recommend it as such.… Expand

Good looking movie. Great cast. HORRIBLE PEOPLE. As much as I enjoyed watching House of Gucci, and that it's based on a true crime story---I think a lot of it was really amped up for the audience. I just wanted someone to cheer for.

First of all, the leading performances from Adam Driver and Lady Gaga were both spectacular. Gaga was extremely entertaining as she took on the persona of the merciless Patricia while Driver gave a much more subtle but equally terrific performance. Unfortunately, I felt that these two were really propping up the movie and preventing it from being a disaster. Jared Leto gave one of the worst performances of the year as an over-the-top man-baby, and this character destroyed what was an otherwise intriguing atmosphere. I also really disliked the third act. It felt like Gaga's character had suddenly disappeared, and the climax was extremely underwhelming. The movie ended almost immediately following this climactic event and the lack of a falling action made the ending feel extremely unsatisfactory. I think that House of Gucci is worth a viewing because of the star turns from its leads, but the rest of the film left me disappointed.… Expand

The House of Gucci, despite being clear about its outcome from the beginning, all the way it goes to get there it feels quite unbalanced and lazy. The narrative of it tries to be very mundane, but it ends up being an- Review in English -

The House of Gucci, despite being clear about its outcome from the beginning, all the way it goes to get there it feels quite unbalanced and lazy. The narrative of it tries to be very mundane, but it ends up being an exaggerated drama in the style of a 90s soap opera, focusing more on gossip and fights between the family, rather than anything relevant to the Gucci brand. However, it has a couple of moments in the story that, if it manages to attract attention dealing with quite versatile and interesting topics such as the theme of piracy, without a doubt for me it was the best of the film, despite the fact that it is very short, considering the exaggeratedly long duration of the film.
The stellar performances are pretty good, I'm surprised not to see Lady Gaga nominated for an Academy Award for this role, Jared Leto is on the edge of excellence with mediocrity and the entire cast full of great artists do a great job , however, the secondary characters and extras seem to have no direction at all. And from there we come to the direction of Ridley Scott, the person who gave us one of the best films of the year (The Last Duel), which makes us not understand why he did a lousy job with this film, it seems that he made this film for commitment and with a lot of laziness, however, if I kept myself entertained throughout the film.

La Casa Gucci, a pesar de tener claro su desenlace desde el comienzo, todo el camino que recorre para llegar a el se siente bastante desequilibrado y desidioso. La narrativa de la misma intenta ser muy mundana, pero termina siendo en un drama exagerado al estilo de una telenovela de los años noventa, enfocándose más en los chismes y las peleas entre la familia, en lugar de algo relevante de la marca Gucci. Sin embargo, tiene un par de momentos en la historia que, si logra llamar la atención tratando temas bastantes versátiles e interesantes como el tema de la piratería, sin duda para mi fue lo mejor de la película, a pesar de que dura muy poco, considerando la exageradamente larga duración.
Las actuaciones estelares son bastante buenas, sí me extraña no ver a Lady Gaga nominada al Premio de la Academia por este papel, Jared Leto se encuentra en el borde de la excelencia con la mediocridad y todo el elenco lleno de grandes artistas hacen un gran trabajo, sin embargo, los personajes secundarios y los extras parecen que no tuvieran dirección alguna. The performances are impossible to look away from and the accents are impossible to unhear, but aside from a couple moments of corporate intrigue here and there, there's really not much to latch on to. The humor is almost always misplaced, leaving the audience in the dark with regards to how they're supposed to feel about what they're watching. I also have to say that this is yet another movie where Jared Leto appears to be acting into another dimension. Not sure if that's necessarily a good thing, but the wackiness of his presence was honestly the most engaging part of the film for me. Definitely not Ridley's finest work.… Expand

An interesting film. Lady Gaga was good as was Adam Driver – actually there were no weak performances in the cast, although I was not particularly impressed with any of them. This film did not have the originality or energy of Scott’s Alien.An interesting film. Alien’s claustrophobia and original set design and story made for a much better movie. The Gucci film was not boring, although it lacked tension and seemed long. While many people often boast that the lives of people like the Gucci family, the rich, the elite, are of no importance to them, in reality it's always striking to learn the juicy, dark details of people who really are the same kind of scumWhile many people often boast that the lives of people like the Gucci family, the rich, the elite, are of no importance to them, in reality it's always striking to learn the juicy, dark details of people who really are the same kind of scum you might imagine, only their quarrels are over amounts of money, power and control that mere mortals can only imagine. Ridley Scott's House of Gucci is more or less such a story.

A morbid story because it involves a murder, but it fails to build an intrigue that lives up to what it sets out to do. This 157-minute tale is barely capable of creating conflict. Its first hour is more of a romantic story in which we see the idyll between Patrizia Reggiani and Maurizio Gucci, before moving on to the family struggle and conflict following the death of Maurizio's father.
Another passage that adds footage, but nothing relevant. Eventually we get to the divorce and then we get to the point where Patrizia orders the murder of her ex-husband. The problem here is that at that point we've already consumed two hours that said absolutely nothing.

Yes, the film has style, Ridley Scott is obviously a great director. But this is a film that makes him look bad. Why? Because just like you might say about a fashion house. There's a lot of style there, yet not a shred of substance.

The performances were also a sad disappointment. And that's pretty surprising considering the kind of cast it has.
From Adam Driver's restrained performance, to the buffoon that Jared Leto becomes.
Lady Gaga does absolutely nothing special. Her performance is cold and robotic.
Only Al Pacino and Jeremy Irons effortlessly deliver straightforward performances. Worst of all, are the accents. I'm not picky about this sort of thing, but it seems really stupid to me that, if you already have a cast of American and British actors playing Italian people who aren't speaking Italian, why the hell do you have them speaking in English with Italian accents that actually sound like Russian? That's a huge distraction. At some points it was heard that this film could be considered a strong contender in the upcoming awards season, but I don't think it will get any nominations other than just for the costumes.

House of Gucci is really a film that desperately tries to make you care about a story that doesn't really have much to stand on.
It's a romantic story that ended in tragedy, but it's not a great crime tale
It's simply the chronicle of a murder, and the only difference is that it was of a public famous and rich figure, but the undertone isn't even a little bit sordid.

It's a film that struggles to find better motivations and its length works against it for that very reason.
I wasn't expecting a masterpiece by any means, but I was expecting a more sober, darker and of course, more substantial film.
This was just a sour disappointment.… Expand

Just finished watching it tonight and all I have ti say that it is AMAZING! The acting from Gaga, Adam, and Jared were top notch & the fact that Gaga was able to pull off Patrizia’s accent is mind blowing. As a director, Ridley Scott is by no means bullet-proof. He’s given us some of the best films of the twentieth century – the original “Blade Runner” and “Thelma and Louise.” He’s delivered a few clunkers – “Legend” (1985) and “1492:As a director, Ridley Scott is by no means bullet-proof. He’s given us some of the best films of the twentieth century – the original “Blade Runner” and “Thelma and Louise.” He’s delivered a few clunkers – “Legend” (1985) and “1492: Conquest of Paradise” come to mind. He has also offered workmanlike films like “A Good Year” and “Body of Lies.” Despite a stellar cast and worlds of possibilities, “House of Gucci” falls in that middling ground. Although the opening credits acknowledge that the story is “based on true events,” this film is much less interesting than the original material.

Act One centers on the burgeoning love affair between Patrizia Reggiani (Lady Gaga) and Maurizio (Adam Driver), law student and reluctant scion of the Gucci empire. With this performance following on the heels of “A Star is Born” (2018), we can officially certify that Lady Gaga has turned falling in love on screen into an art form. Maurizio’s patrician father Rodolfo Gucci disapproves because Patrizia’s family runs a trucking company. They marry anyway and head off to New York, where they are welcomed by Aldo Gucci (Al Pacino), who runs the fashion empire.

At this point, the film could have gone in many interesting directions. It could have become a campy spectacle or spoof of high fashion. (Ridley Scott did some iconic commercials for Apple Mac and Chanel No. 5.) It could have become an exploration of family dynamics. While Rodolfo’s relationship with Maurizio is strained by the marriage, Aldo’s relationship with his son Paolo (Jared Leto) is similarly strained, in this case by Paolo’s terminal stupidity although, as Pacino intones, “he’s my idiot.” Instead, the film focuses on business finances and family factionalism with a series of predictable scenes that are about as interesting as reading corporate minutes for two hours. Patrizia has more business sense and ambition than the rest of the clan put together. However, for no apparent reason, it’s Maurizio who completes a series of ruthless schemes to take over the business. Patrizia is cast aside by Mauricio and responds by seeking the counsel of a TV psychic (Salma Hayek). It all culminates in a series of sensational events that riveted the world when they happened, but here are curiously anticlimactic.

The critical problem here is a startling lack of character development. In a film like “Phantom Thread,” creating fashion is a satisfying compulsion for the protagonist. Here, is the Gucci family interested in anything beyond selling the pretense of elegance? How does Maurizio evolve from a cardboard cutout character to a shrewdly manipulative corporate shark? How does Lady Gaga dominate scenes with Adam Driver when she’s fifteen inches shorter? How are they able to kiss while standing upright? Inquiring minds want to know.

The central problem is that this film never decides what it wants to be when it grows up. At the end, it collapses under the weight of a noncommittal script that wavers as often and as obviously as the Italian accents of several of the characters.… Expand

Ciao, Streamers! It's been a very busy time of the year with the holidays and a new cinema coming from all over the place. One of the most anticipated of the season is Ridley Scott's House of Gucci starring Lady Gaga, which opened on Thanksgiving. Let's get transported to Milan and see how this stylish true crime drama turned out.

Based on true events, House of Gucci tells the story of how the Gucci family lost its grip on its fashion empire by succumbing to greed, betrayal and infighting instigated by the introduction of Patrizia Reggiani (Lady Gaga) into the family. Patrizia meets Maurizio Gucci (Adam Driver), who is the son of and an heir to the Gucci business, and she falls in love with him after hearing the name "Gucci". Maurizio's father, Rodolfo Gucci (Jeremy Irons) does not trust Patrizia and has a falling out with Maurizio because he thinks that Patrizia essentially is a gold digger. Patrizia eventually ingratiates herself with the Gucci family by charming Maurizio's uncle, Aldo Gucci (Al Pacino) and cousin, Paolo Gucci (Jared Leto), but her ambition and entitlement leads to some epic downfalls and even criminal consequences to the family and herself. Melodrama ensues.

The promotion for House of Gucci sells a different movie than you get. It seemed like the movie was a true crime romp like something salacious and intriguing; but, although it has its moments of fun, it is too rote and boring to add up to the romp that it was promoted to be. There are a lot of business machinations that are the focus whereas the true crime aspect is the more interesting part of the story. While the betrayal in the business leads to the murder, the motivation to get to the murder is what seems to be where the drama and attention should be placed. Additionally, the movie is too long for the plot to be as imbalanced as it is.

Now, Lady Gaga does a great job and she dominates the movie, especially the first half. She has a decent Italian accent, and she gives her character a lot of flare. Although Patrizia is essentially the villain in the story, you have to root for her because Gaga makes her almost sympathetic. There are great costumes and nods to the 80's fashion era. House of Gucci is about Gucci, and so style should be front in center. The movie is pretty successful in that way. I have to mention Jared Leto's portrayal of Paolo Gucci. Paolo is a sympathetic character, too. Leto is under pounds of makeup that make him completely unrecognizable, and he has a ridiculous Italian accent that borders on caricature; but it works nonetheless. Leto is so fun in this role that you miss him when he's not on screen.

For me, the rest of the story is just blah and boring or over the top and ridiculous. Ridley Scott did not get a consistent tone, consistent accent or really find an interesting focus for this story. At 2 and a half hours long, it feels like the movie drags out what could have been both shorter and more impactful flick. Pretty disappointing.

Ultimately, House of Gucci fails to justify its long runtime. While Lady Gaga and Jared Leto have good performances and the costumes are eye-catching, the rest of the story is not told in an interesting way, is inconsistent and unfocused. Just get a handful of popcorn for this one.… Expand

She does not sound right for a born Italian national. The movie reminds me of old 80's TV shows that were all about wealth and luxury with no substance or consistent story. It looks expensive, but what a waist of money. They needed a better director, I think, to make the characters likeable. Also, I think it tried to be to many things maybe. I don't know. It just doesn't work. Obviously they tried to make it work. Maybe that's why is soooo long.… Expand

Awful. Jared was alright as well as Al Pacino. However, that mediocre "actress" named Lady Gaga shouldn't have played Patrizia. She lacks acting talent for a role like that. The LOSER for both Oscar and Golden Globe best leading actress once again proves that those two awards still have credibility. Quote a word from Grace Jones, "I just did not feel a soul".

The collective size of their huge nose equals the huge length of the film. Way too long and kinda uneventful. Gaga was pretty good tho, a bit messy at times and definitely overrated but still good.

Awful, awful movie. Ridley Scott needs to retire because his films over the past 20 years just keep getting worse and more ridiculous. All the actors in this movie should be embarrassed to have been part of it. And lady gaga is the worst onAwful, awful movie. And lady gaga is the worst on display here. She comes across as lady gaga in a brunette wig trying to act like what she thinks a "tough woman" acts like. Very superficial and pedestrian characterization, but I guess that shouldn't be surprising coming from a superficial, generic pop star. And her accent was just terrible. All I kept thinking of was that I was watching a live action Boris and Natasha cartoon. But don't take it from me, even the Italian dialect coach from the movie has gone on record to say that she sounded Russian, not Italian. Avoid at all costs.… Expand

I had to sit on the couch after watching this film and physically decompress the anxiety I accrued by sitting through this. If I wasn't watching this with someone, I would have turned it off. I'm an active voting award voter, so I see a lot of films. I can appreciate a wide variety of films and find positive in them that generally make the film worthwhile. Not so here.

It is like watching a train wreck in slow motion that has been predicted well in advance like a meteorologist predicting 72 degrees and sunny in Santa Monica. Yes, based on a true story so there is a degree of knowledge. Patrizia, played by Lady Gaga, is a textbook gold digger from the very first scene. We all know where it's going. Strap in for a slow motion second-by-second ride with a 6-year old child behind the wheel of a car. You know they can't touch the brakes. You know they are going to hit what is in front of them at a paltry 5 MPH. Her accent, which I even read news articles about....

"Lady Gaga spoke with a Northern Italian accent for nine months to authentically portray Patrizia Reggiani in the upcoming movie House of Gucci. Even when the cameras weren't rolling, she has said, she never broke character." - Vanity Fair

... Perhaps someone played a cruel joke on her and convinced her a trashy Jersey Shore accept was in fact 'Northern Italian'? I'm not crazy either. The Cut states, "Her accent may not be technically correct". They have to be polite for the public eye, so I'll take it a step further, it wasn't even in the ballpark of anything approaching technically correct, unless her next role is for a reality TV show on MTV.

Adam Driver, playing Maurizio, is under utilized. He was the correct casting, and his acting was 'good'. But, I spent a lot of time staring at his trademark unreadably straight face. Maybe it was the fact that Lady Gaga was so underwhelming that I felt the need to look to Adam to pick it up and, like me playing beach volleyball, I watch the ball next within my reach but let it go because it wasn't technically mine to get.

Jared Leto was amazing. This film was a serious waste of a good bit of acting on his behalf. He played the role of Paolo brilliantly, making you feel an understanding and emotional attachment for the character despite his many flaws.

Speaking of flaws, Patrizia was entirely flawed with no human element anyone lacking sociopathic tendencies could feel an attachment to. Maurizio is a normal human for 2 hours, then at the snap of the finger is a Bond Villain.

Normally I'd say save your money. But for this particular film I say, "save the hours of your life".… Expand

What a snooze fest, I could barely make it through this slog of a movie. My recommendation is to wait for it to be on Netflix if you have to watch it cause it ain’t worth going to the theatres for

Too messy, it's very confusing. Acting is not bad, but with that script and directing, even that could not help the movie be watchable. What a waste of time. Watch with caution. This was not worth the try. Gaga's acting was terrible. I don't know if she's as good as the media portray her to be. Overrated.

ABYSMAL. I thought "House of Gucci" was going to be an amazing movie, but I can't believe I wasted almost three hours on this rubbish.
