I like "Holes". Its elegantly crafted with pure zeal and joy, as well as honest performances of the actors. Man, if only Disney could continue on making live-action movies like this...

I have watched this movie well over 30 times and it still maintains it's value. Memorable scenes, Funny through out. It's a rather enjoyable film the whole family can watch.

Okay, okay... the book was a lot better. The movie is pretty weird in general, but the kids were pretty good in the film. It was like when I read the book, my imagination of it into a movie. Not the best movie out there, but meh...

On its own, its a great movie. As a real-person disney movie, its perfect fun for the whole family. It clocks 2 hours with the snap of a finger, it has an important message to give to the people and it's probably the Shia LaBoeuf movie that made him who he is today, with Transformers, Eagle Eye, etc. All the actor roles are excellent, especially Sigourney Weaver playing as The Warren and it's a tale of the past depicted really well and in an interesting way. Both adults AND children will love this movie, but some material may be unsuitable for very young children. Watch this movie!! Expand

Holes is a really fun film. It has a great story that feels like a mystery even when it is not. Even if the setting feels dull at times it is a lot of fun.

Not only is it a great old story, brought to life on the big screen, but it's got one hell of a cast. The young stars in this movie turned out to be much better off working on a film like this, rather than some ridiculous singing and dancing nightmare, that would have tight cast them. Shia LaBeouf is great as a troubled kid sent away to a work camp, where they uncover a hidden secret. Surprisingly thou, it's newcomer Khleo Thomas who steals the show. His story and background are so sad and he plays it so well, that you just want to hug him every time he opens his mouth. Veterans John Voigt and Sigourney Weaver bring experience to the film and really give the kids a strong example to follow now and in the future. Overall, this is one of the best Disney movies I've ever seen, doing justice in bringing life to a great novel. I wish more of their films were like this! Expand

Unlike most family films, which follow a strict formula, there is some serious depth in the plot here, and that's what's fascinating about it.

I'm pretty leniant with movies when I rate. I give this an 8 because it wasn't a very traditional film of Disney. It was, however, a classical movie. I liked It very much. That warden is one badass girl.

The film looks very beautiful, the photography is excellentI really liked the book, it was a well written one and easy to read and understand. This film adaptation does have some flaws but it was much better than I expected it to be. The film looks very beautiful, the photography is excellent throughout, even in the flashbacks, and the music was great. The screenplay is fairly faithful to the book, and is consistently engaging. The performances from everybody involved are very good, Shia LeBoeuf I actually found quite likable in this movie, and Tim Blake Nelson is fun to watch too. Patricia Arquette is given little to do, and while her character was necessary, I just felt that they could have cast somebody else that fitted the character a tad better, though I liked her chemistry with Sam the onion man, wonderfully played by Psych star Dule Hill. Sigourney Weaver looks beautiful, and seems to be relishing her role as the warden, but my favourite is Jon Voigt. He was absolutely hilarious as Mr Sir. My only other complaint of the movie, other than Patricia Arquette was some slow moments in the middle half, where little of interest happens. On the whole, it is an enjoyable and engaging film. 8/10 Bethany Cox Expand

This is imaginative, intelligent family entertainment showing a powerful portrayal of discrimination, love, friendship and a truly happy ending. The films plot, cast, themes and symbolism stick very well to the book. The director also chose a great cast and he even filmed it in the deserts of Texas. Louis Sachar himself also supported the film by writing the screenplay. There is truly a very moving, adventurous and interesting plot in the movie as there is in the book. I read the book and I liked it as well as the movie. Expand

I’ve read Holes so many times as a kid and I feel in love with each of the characters the more I read it, this movie brought the characters that I loved to life Stanley, Zero, everyone is not only acted great but these actors are who I see when I am reading the book. I also really love how Kissing Kate Barlow was put into the movie, her backstory reminds me of Candyman an interracial relationship caught and gone wrong but the woman goes nuts. I just can’t praise this movie enough they basically just took everything from the book and translated it beautifully to the big screen. Overall this is a fantastic movie but you need to read the book first, this holds a special place in my heart reading this book made me love books as a whole, from the fantastic acting, amazing score, gorgeous cinematography this is a must watch.
