Keep in mind that I'm a film student majoring in screenwriting so this'll stick to my review of the story and plot. The tone of the entire film is both unique and consistent, where you see the town's fictional world pitted against the big real world in some of the funniest ways possible. It's so generational though that if you're not familiar with the modern web or current TV, I doubt you (like many critics) would enjoy it. Playing on a million different social commentaries at once would seem overwhelming, but with such a diverse and talented cast playing across such a long range of characters, it all manages to wrap up together nicely. The film is funny mostly when you take a step back and try to imagine any of this happening to your typical small hometown. It's not laugh out loud funny, but the tone basically says "I'm making a point by telling this story, and since it's funny that's why it'll be funny." The characters are engaging and had me rooting for them the whole way (even though I really couldn't say why), despite some of their obvious but regrettably understandable flaws. It might require some patience to get through some scenes, but the ending does an amazing and hilarious job of wrapping up the whole film, contrary to some critics completely missing the film's shocking twist at the end and instead thinking it's intended to just be funny. The path the story takes is interesting to follow largely because Cross creates a situation which any young audience can believe as it plays out, with Dave as an easily realizable main character to guide us through it. Highly recommended for adults and teens who are at least up to speed on knowledge of American modern culture. Expand
