Yes, it does have a vanity project angle, but it’s Crystal, so how bad can it be? He plays a veteran comedy writer who befriends a sassy singer (Tiffany Haddish). Their friendship goes deep, especially when it’s revealed that he’s facing dementia (yes, another dementia movie). There are several sketches from the TV show he works on, but none of them are funny. Unfortunately, that’s the state of much of the script, even though there are a number of classic Crystal lines. He also relishes the opportunity to go deep into emotional territory, which he does reasonably well. Haddish is playing this much straighter than usual, but she still manages to let some of her personality shine. This is not a romantic comedy, but a friendship flick with a layer of love. Although the laughs are uneven, there’s a lively pace and two enjoyable performances to make it a respectable production. Expand

The sequel to "When Harry Met Sally..." aged until it becomes a dementia movie: Nora Ephron, Rob Reiner and Meg Ryan disappear, while Billy Crystal directs, produces, writes and acts. The sketches and jokes à la "Saturday Night Live" aren't funny and the tear-jerking moments are ineffective: a failed dramedy on both fronts.

It has some funny moments and sad moments too but it felt a bit too bland mid way through, so I can't say I was exactly gripped by it. It took a while before I really laughed, which isn't good for a film primarily categorised as a comedy and the whole inter generational (age gap) aspect felt a bit cliche. It's certainly cheesy at the end and I'd even say it has the feel of an afternoon TV film about it but it's not all bad. It covers some decent themes and it sort of means well. I liked one scene in particular, where Charlie interupts live TV and has a bit of a vent. I feel like this could have been a better film, it has some promise but it doesn't really work properly, not as far as I'm concerned anyway. The cast is decent and there's some witty dialogue but its far from memorable or stand out, so overall I wouldn't recommend this film, no. Expand

Very sincere treatment of life, with humor and love. Good job by Crystal and the rest of the cast. I especially liked the evening music by Itzhak Perlman.
