This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Loved the film's portrayal of the Yule Ball, and the teenage anxiety surrounding it. I was genuinely emotionally moved by Amos Diggory's anguish over the death of his son, and seeing Harry crying along with him augmented the scene's poignancy. No fantasy story is truly complete without some dragons, and the film doles out that particular justice with a truly awesome dragon and a truly awesome battle scene, if not without taking some liberties from the book. All in all, one of the best of the HP films. Expand

Spectacular film. The kids are just as good of actors as the adults now. Oh, I love that trio so, so much! Goblet of Fire takes a more dangerous approach and has a very spectacular and interesting premise. Pure magic for the young & old.

Tackling a fire-breathing dragon or asking someone out on a date? Yet another improvement on its predecessors, Goblet of Fire is the funniest, most exciting, most emotional and most frightening Potter instalment yet. Radcliffe, Watson and Grint deliver their best performances thus far, showing a firm grip of the much darker and more emotionally challenging material here. Newell and Kloves ensure that the powerful material contained within its complex storyline is never lost; but they also manage to perfectly capture the angst and insecurity suffered by our adolescent heroes with a wicked sense of humour.

The ever-expanding ensemble are at the top of their game here, with top-notch performances from Tennant, Pack, Gleeson and Pattinson (I know, right?). But stealing the show has to be the Dark Lord himself, as Fiennes - with a little help from the CGI team - delivers a turn as Voldemort that marks a definitive transformation to the series. It's gonna be a rough ride from here on out.

Compressing a 600-page book into a film less than three hours long is never going to be easy, so the most faithful readers may not be totally satisfied with the absence of some material. For the rest, Goblet of Fire is simply awesome.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. "The Goblet of Fire" is another strong "Harry Potter" movie after 'Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban' (2004), a movie that is the first to not be given the family-friendly 'PG' rating because this one is darker and more violent, if not, more consequential than the previous three installments.

Harry (Daniel Radcliffe), Ron (Rupert Grint) and Hermione (Emma Watson) are back and they attend the Quidditch World Cup, after the big event, there is danger lurking ahead as it seems that a murderer is on the hunt for Harry. As they head back to Hogwarts, there is another huge event that takes place called the "Tri-Wizard Cup", where they are informed by a newcomer called Alistair "Mad Eye" Moody (Brendan Gleeson) that no student under the age of 17 should participate as the contest and all the games involved are extremely dangerous and not for the faint of heart.

All the other schools also part-take, but it seems that there is a strange mix-up as when all the students over the age of 17 place their names in the Goblet of Fire to allow them to take part in the challenges, Harry, who is supposed to be 14, has his name on there, somehow. A confused Dumbledore (Michael Gambon) then proceeds to let Harry part-take in this tournament, which is risky, but they have no choice, nor do they have any knowledge of who placed Harry's name in that Goblet.

A reluctant Harry then decides to take these tournaments, but one day, during a deadly challenge, he comes across his parents' murderer, Lord Voldermort (a very scary Ralph Fiennes) who tries to kill Harry in the process, but luckily Harry manages to escape, unfortunately, a fellow student, Cedric Diggory (Robert Pattinson) didn't make it out alive, making this the most intense of the series, the fact that a student died under the Hogwarts premises, does raise the stakes for all the students, especially Harry, at Hogwarts.

This is a darker, more red-blooded, and violent chapter in the "Harry Potter" franchise, equally as enjoyable as its predecessor. The young cast start to grow even more in this world and in the Hogwarts world, the action and the "Tri-Wizard" tournaments have this style that keeps you watching. They have this sense of perfectly timed choreography and sure-handed direction (by Mike Newell).

The best is yet to come, this is where the series has peaked.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This is my 2nd favorite Harry Potter movie and one of my favorite movies of all time. I love how well-developed the characters have become and how mature the characters are now. The writing, story, plot, and screenplay were fantastic. The acting performances from the cast were stupendous especially Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, Rupert Grint, Brendan Gleeson, Michael Gambon, Maggie Smith, Miranda Richardson, Robert Pattinson, and Ralph Fiennes. The visual effects were spectacularly done especially the dragons, during the underwater scenes, during the maze scenes, and the fight between Harry and Voldemort. The scenery and sets were fantastic in this movie. The costumes were amazing in this movie especially during the Yule Ball. Also the music and film score in this movie was great. An A+ movie. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Lord Voldemort is one charismatic maggot. The fourth HP movie captures the spirit of the first half of the original eight movies, while taking more risks that pave the way for its ambitious future. Hagrid and Maxime are so freaking cute together and I loved seeing the dragon less cool only than Smaug and Saphira take flight but not as much as Barty displaying the Unforgivable Curses or Harry and Voldemort locking magic beams like they're playing tug-of-war or mimicking Obi-Wan and Count Dooku's lightsaber lock in "Attack of the Clones". Mike Newell clearly understood the characters even if he didn't get the plot and it really shows for better and worse and let's face it the novel is like 700 pages long. It's a pity they couldn't do this with "Half-Blood Prince". Plus this is the movie that made me think the series was finally starting to make sense and you can enjoy it without being a total nerd. As our young wizards enter adolescence, the film navigates the tumultuous waters of coming-of-age with an authenticity that resonates deeply, while also heralding the maturation and darker tones that mark a significant turning point in the saga.

The cast's evolution is nothing short of remarkable, as they seamlessly transition from child actors to teen stars, infusing their characters with newfound complexities and relatable struggles. But when I watched it again and again the more I started to love it. Even though this movie also like the third one differs from the book but I liked whatever they did. The only thing I didn't like was the third task which is totally different from the books. Has no creatures or any excitement, but then the graveyard scene after that totally makes it up for the third task and all the credit goes to Ralph Fieness as our dear Voldemort. Story... What can I say!!?? It's Harry Potter, of course it's gonna rock. Acting... The trio remains marvelous, no doubt about that, but the rising stars are Ralph as Voldemort, Brendon as Moody and Miranda as Rita. They take the movie to a whole new level. Other adult actors are already perfect so i'm not praising them here. Michael Gambon sucked again!! In face he sucked more than he did in the previous one. That scene in which he runs towards Harry asking if he had put his name in the goblet is evidence enough for his suckage. Richard Harris we miss you!!! May he rest in peace. Direction... I found Mike Newell better than Alfonso Cuaron. Handling such a big novel is not easy but he has done an excellent job. But of course the main credit will go the Steve Kloves who is the screen writer. Even though i'd still say Warner bros should have never changed Chris in the first place. Since Chris is gone Harry Potter has lost smoothness. See lord of the rings, all the three movies feel ONE! This is not the case with HP. Visuals... The dragon was superb. The second task was superb. Voldemort's makeup was superb. In short the visuals were superb!!! Expand

I am personaly pleased with the fourth instalment. Director Chris Collumbus managed to stuff all the action in it while trying to make sense for all of it. However, he left out some unnessesary plots which caused unsatisfaction to certain people. As mentioned earlier, i loved HPGOF. It was fascinating and the computer graphichs were simply brilliant. I was simply awed by how the tiles flew from the castle roof when the dragon kind of clinged on it. There are also a lot of breath-taking action and wonderfull scenery. An adventure leads to another, it's as simple as that. I really enjoyed the movie very much, maybe it's due to months of anticipated wait. The celebrities however, play an important role in the popularity of the movie. There are, naturally, humurous parts of the film as a tradition, some from Rowling, but some implemented from Chris himself. It was really funny. My only complaint is, the lenght of the movie was too short. For a book that's that thick, it seems rather impossible for the director to minimized it to it's current state but he managed. Unfortunately, this resulted in difficulty in understanding the Movie. i doubt anyone would truly realize what is happening if he or she has yet to read the book. In my opinoin, the show should at least be 3 hours long, but 5 as a better option. He could have divided the movie into two episodes. By then people would not complain : Why no SPEW? Why no Winky, And Why No Sphinx? As a conclution, Chris has managed to pack J.K.Rowlings Fascinating world into an action packed film. This is the defining film for the whole series, a must watch for fans. It is definitely worth your bucks. Expand

Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire was a VERY good movie and VERY well done. The movie centers on Harry as he takes his fourth year into Hogwarts. This year, Voldemort's (sorry, "He Who Must Not Be Named") power is steadily growing, thanks to his servants, the Death Eaters. Early in the film, Harry and his pals are gathering at the Quittich World Cup. Quickly into the film, the characters are attacked-not by dementors this time- but by Death Eaters, Lord Voledemort's servants. (This part was very exciting.) The film moves fairly quickly, with more mystery than even the Prisoner of Azkaban had. Harry Potter is entered into the Tri-Wizard Tournament. How? We have yet to find out. Unfortunately for Harry, he has no choice except to accept what is in front of him. What also sucks for Harry is that people have died in the Tri-Wizard Tournament. Yes, it's that dangerous. One thing new with Harry is that he is at the stage in life where he is changing. Hormones. More romance takes place, than it did in the others. For example, Harry seems to have a bit of feeling for Cho Chung. Ron gets jealous of his friends, because he can't get a date for himself. Hermione seems to have taken a liking to one of the other competitors. I remember Ron commenting "Bloody hell" when checking out the bodies of the French team. The movie generally is exciting and face-paced, but even if it has a length of 157 minutes, it still moves too fast for its own good. For example, they never tell us what a port-key is. (The audience has to figure it out for themselves.) The character, Cedric Diggory is hardly introduced to us. There seems to be no beginning the scene where the Death Eaters attack. It just happens out of nowhere. The movie never tells us why Ron gets mad at Harry. (It is because he is jealous, as previously stated.) Even if they took out parts of the book to make the movie shorter, they seem to have taken out necessary parts along with them. I did like the movie, but Expand

Yeah, some of it's a bit different. Which is a shame. But I really don't envy Steve Kloves his job in adapting these, and I'm not surprised he's given the next one to someone else while he buggers off to direct something. Take a look at the book one day. It's huge. It's a housebrick. And the next one's even bigger. I seriously had no idea how they'd shrink this fourth one into one film. More than three hours is for no - exactly three hours is pushing it. Fortunately, they managed it, and if some of the characterisation and plotting is simpler, it's because it's a different medium. You still should read the books before you see the films, because the books are the real story and the films are just moving picture versions of them, but they're damn good moving picture versions. Excellent story and acting. It is very impressive that after four installments the sequals have not started to weaken. This is a major credit to the "quality" that is so consistent in the movies. Two thumbs up and a job very well done!!!

However, it captured the Best Harry Potter movie, yet. Though the movie was long for this genre, it wasn't possible to capture all of the nuances of the book (I would have preferred a longer film with more of the book's storyline). However, it captured the mood of the book stunningly. The special effects were good, but not overwhelming. A few of the scenes given minor play in the book were overly long in the movie (e.g. Moaning Myrtle and the bath). Although dark and more adult than the other films, this film kept its sense of humour throughout. I suspect that those who have read the book, as I have, will find the movie much less confusing than those who have not; for example, it is not possible to fully understand the climax of the movie without having read the book, though one doesn't need to comprehend it in its entirety to enjoy the film (without giving too much away for those who haven't seen the film, think "ghosts" of Harry's mum and dad). I saw the film with my husband, my three children and two of my chidren's friends. Husband thought the film was OK (not having read the book) and the children and I quite loved it. The children were disappointed that so much of the book was left out, and felt that the movie was "way too short"! Considering the length of this film, I consider that, in and of itself, to be a positive review on their parts. They were riveted. I agree with some other reviewers about two things, however - neither Dumbledore nor Voldemort were quite accurately represented. However, that did not decrease our enjoyment of the film. Expand

In this movie, I found the introduction to be very choppy and disoriented. Being a rather large fan of Rowling's books, I noted several things that should have been added in to make sceen to sceen changes move smoother through out the movie. Yes, I am quite aware of what it takes to create a film and many beloved things in the books have to be taken out, but some of the things they did keep seemed unessessary and could have been replaced with another sceen somewhere else in the script. I do, however, think there is an admirable balance between graphics and acting. The wonderful fantastical events, like dragons and Port Key travel, were awesome in graphics. At this point, it is less believable that charactors such as Draco Malfoy (Tom Felton 18) and Ron Weasley(Rupert Grint 17) were really 14. By the time the charactors have reached seventh year, the actors will be in their early twenties. I know that changing actors is very risky business, but I am sure that Draco legally able to by Alcohol in the USA is quite a ridiculous thing. I do admire the actors increasing skill and maturity throughout the film series. Thank you for your time. Expand

The best part of this movie: When Harry Potter becomes one of two Champions of Hogwarts. Imagine his shock when his name flew out of the Goblet of Fire! Haltingly adapted from Rowling's slightly-less-than-most-popular of the series, Goblet of Fire delivers a valiant effort at ramping up all the crucial variables in the Potter anthology: Maturity, Romance, Humor, Adolescence, Magical Eyecandy and the impending sense of a looming conflict.
